Ths Tsachsr's Spiritual and Msntal Preparation
Motive Teach for the Lord. Don’t expect thanks.
FOCUS Commit each session to the Lord.
PREPARE TO Uarn Thoroughly prepare to teach a first-rate lesson each week.
But don't forget to enter the class session with the anticipation of what you might
learn. To teach is to learn twice.
TEAM Teach It may seem like you're teching alone, but
rest assured, the Holy Spirit is team teaching God's Word
with you.
So Whatdayado? When you are a social gathering and someone asks, "And
what do you do?," do you answer by telling them about your school life or your 9-
to-5 job? If teaching is a top priority for you - and we know it is - then say so. Try
this next time:
"Well, the most important thing I do is teach junior high Sunday School. The
reaaions are fun to watch.
HEAR! Check Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. What is your
motivation for teaching? Guilt, duty; image, or z/if I don't
do it, who will?" Lvve is the only pure motivation.
Th? SNEMY Will Attack The devil hates spiritual growth in God's children. He
will attempt to sabotage anything that could advance God's Kingdom of light.
Don't forget 션
A Precious Soul Each of your students is a soul for
whom Christ died. Teach them with that in mind.
Get an Ahitude-An Eternity Annuos What you do is "wrapped in
eternityGod expects something to happen when His Word is taught, it could
change the course of history for your students.
GET RE-CHARGED Attend a teacher training day.
TAKE A Hiks Through a Christian Bookstores (Light House, Word of Life or
Nathan’s office), That is. Carry a notepad and pen and jot down ideas, curriculum
resources, song titles, and ideas that you might be able to plug into lessons.
Your Calling You are called to obedience, not success.
Can't Give Away What You Don't Have Keep in mind that your students
will remember you long after the lesson topic fades. Get your heart right before
teaching theirs.
Give Up That's right. You can’t do it. But God working
through you, can (Philippians 4:13, Eph 3:20).

Tips for Teaching
BES머 ! 데HJLAL PREPARED
Jesus has called yjou to proclaim and explain His Good news. In order to accomplish this, spend time
with Him in prater and ask His Spirit to make his word dear and powerful in your life. As you meet
with students continue to depend on his grace and truth to meet everg need, both your's and the stu
dents.
신? 『ALLY PREPARED
Do your homework (H Timothy 2:15). Become familiar with the lesson so that you feel comfortable talk
ing about ever방 aspect of it Become so familiar with the Scripture texts that you can move in and out
of content with ease. Know yotir objectives so thoroughly that you can keep them in the Forefront as
you work 산)rough the lesson. Work through the lessons so that you will not be caught unaware by an
unclear issue. Do your homework
BE PHYSICALLY PREPARED
Be sure to have all of your materials ready before you meet with your group. Have everything ready,
available and orderly before you meet Making a checklist is always helpfuL
SET STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR
Your group should expect a consistent level of order. Set up degrees of consequences for
verging degrees of poor behavior. Communicate these clearlg and earlg to your group and follow
through on what you say.
KEEP THEIR ATTENTION
Don't presume the right to be heard* earn it by modeling Christ and challenging your students to
follow Him. Be expressive and use plenty of variation in your tone of voice. Reflect the enthiwiasm of
the lesson so 公iat your students will also be excited. Keep good eye contact with the youth and insist
that they keep their eyes on you. Use praise whenever possible and keep negative comments to a mini*
muia but use them if necessary. Remember: your goal is to teach and you can't teach people who are
not pacing attention.
ASK tOTS OF OUESTIONS
This is a good way to maintain student involvement and to evaluate the students comprehension
of ihe lesson. Ask all kinds or questions. Open ended questions are fun because they do not call
for only one right answer. You can affirm everyone's answer with an open ended question. Be
creative, and use this opportunity to make the students feel important. Even a wrong answer can
be affirmed by saving, "Sood, you’re thinking* The more positive you are, the more your
students will want to participate.
GET PERSONAL
Don't be a分aid to use personal illustrations from your life. This will help yoior students know you
better and feel doser to you. If you open up to them they are more likeiy to open up to you.
월£ ALERT
Realize that your students have special needs. Each one comes from a unique bactoronnd with a
unique set of experiences Be sensitive and alert to family and spiritual coiidition. Some students may
be comfortable with their spiritual condition while not even knowing Christ
BELOVW
Comfort your students through tfie same comfort God has given you Read I Corinthians 13
and practice^ it.

can be benefited from one anotheras we share our experiences and ideas.
I. PHILOSOPHY OF ADMINISTRATION IN MINISTRY
1. Why Need Administration in Ministry? Organization
Effectiveness
Problem Proof / Guarding
• Bigger the event is, more preparation and better administration are needed.
2. Two types of ministers / workers - Motivational type (Charisma) - people ministry
Organizing type (Administration) - paper ministry
Best type = M + O
3. Aspects of Ministry Event-Goal. Content, People, Jesus Christ
i. Goal Oriented Event - What to be achieved? # of people drawn
Introduction to Missions
A fun summer fellowship
Study of a certain topic
Content must be matching with the goal - Theme, Curriculum,
Program, Activities.
Materials. Settings, etc.
ii. People (Relationship) Oriented Event-What kind of atmosphere?
Know the participants - faith, age, knowledge, situations, needs
Select Emphasis based on the participants:
Fellowship, Training, Learning, Experiencing, etc.
Create Atmosphere that is most suitable for the participants:
Serious, Casual, Fun, Strict, etc.
fii. Jesus Christ Focus. Oriented. Purpose.
II. ORDER OF PREPARATION
Its important to prioritize what to prepare first in terms of time and budget
Here's a general guideline for you to consider. (Shown • 9 months Prep. Schedule)
Item to DlarVprepare When Remark多
Set up a general event plan with by October of previous Many churches have their
approximate budget year budget session in November
Dates need to be decided
Reserve a VBS/Retreat At least 9 months before Many churches go for same
site if having it outside church the event date dates (last wk of June or 4th
fdeposit required) wk of August)
Decide on a goal, theme, verse At least 8 months before You need this information for
and other basic structure At least 7 m이iths before planning and recruiting staff,
including the speaker
Look for and reserve main
speakers) There are not too many good
speakers for VBS or Retreats
Start Recruiting for volunteer staff At least 6 months before Many eligible volunteers work
or take summer school during
Start working on the detailed At least 5 ninths before VBS time. They need to know
budget, program, and schedule. early to make arrangement for
themselves
Confirm on the site reservation
Eartier the program and budget
Prepare Training program, At least 4 months before are set, more time to prepare
schedule, and materials. At least 3 months before
Provide all the documents they
Do a fund raiser a couple of times require: contract, assurance,
initial planning sheet, etc.
Turn in Budget Request to church II
Quality of staff training will be
Arrange Transportation directly reflected in VBS
success
Make posters and flyers
It's good to do fund raiser early
for publicizing purpose as well
as IVs going to be too busy later
It's a large amount, give the
financial dept enough time to
prepare
In case of renting buses, it's
better to do early for chance
and discount
Early publicizing enables early
registration
ftem to Dlan/DreDare When Remarks
Start staff training At least 2 months before
The training should not be too
Take 1st Registration ■■ long or short A couple of hours
a week at the most convenient
Reconfirm the site and speaker At least 1 month before time for the staff.
Take 2nd Registration At least 1 week before
Take 3rd and Final Registration Give a generous discount for
this 1st deadline: you'll get
Make and printout the VBS/Retreat some money to utilize and the
booklet participants will enjoy the
saving
Do the Final checkup of
the site, speaker, program, Make sure all the arrangement
transportation, etc. are ready.
Give some discount for this
2nd deadline. It will motivate
people to register and pay earty
You need to give final count to
the site by now. Make sure to
distinguish full time from part
time.
This usually has to wait until the
last week because of the last
minutes changes. However,
you donl want to waft until the
day before for you dont know
what could happen to your copy
machine.
You'll be super busy, but try to
take K easy as much as
possible, remember, you still
need to do the VBS
III. TO MAKE YOUR VBS A LITTLE BIT EXTRA SPECIAL THIS YEAR...
1. Make your own materials as much as possible....the personal touch
2. Plan for a couple of "Surprise Program.*...that are not in the program
3. Think of an unique idea to decorate the VBS place.
4. Make each day a little bit different..setting, color, leader, etc.
5. Do something silly like not allowing teachers to wear any make-ups.
6. If you have enough money, hire a cartoonist to draw each kid's portrait
7. Any other ideas?
IV. DOCUMENTS YOU NEED TO PREPARE...
1. General Plan - an overall purpose and plan of the event to present to church
session or the education committee, (yellow copy)
2. Overall Budget - an overall calculation of expense and income. Need to do some
research and calculating, (blue copy)
3. Activity Permit - Parent's permission slip that could be used in emergency or
legal situations. Many insurance companies and all medical
institutions require this statement (green copy)
4. Insurance Policy - Many VBS/Retreat sites require this document before the contract
becomes valid. Even if you're having VBS at your own church,
this is a good document to have it ready in case of accident
V. AFTER THE VBS..^dministrative Follow-ups.
1. Clean the place/site very nicely. If it was your own church, you own to yourself. If
it was a retreat site, you owe it to other groups, (not to mention Korean church
credit)
2. Make out a post-event financial report as soon as possible. Turn it in to the church
treasurer with all the receipts and change. If there are any reimbursements to
give out. do not delay.
3. Sent out cards or gifts to the site, speaker, and all the volunteer staff.
4. Have at least one evaluation meeting with the staff (perhaps treating them to a
dinner) and keep a record of the meeting to be used in planning for the next
year's.
5. Plan a couple of events where you could ask about how the participants are doing
with the application from the VBS.
VI. CONCLUSION...The Attitude of Preparer
1. Prayerful: This is the LorcTs ministry. More than anything else, we need the
guidance of the Holy Spirit
2. Thankful: This is a spedal privilege to partake in the Lonfs ministry.
3.. Cheerful: As the leader of this event, everyone is watching you. You set the
atmosphere and you control the mood. Be cheerful, and then this will
be a pleasant experience for you and the others.
4. Patient There is no such thing as "problem-free-event* As you go through this long
process of preparation, there will be something go wrong. Be patient
Take the problems as positive challenges and build your character
through them. You'll be glad and others will appreciate you.
5. Wise: Administration in any business or ministry is about being wise - making right
decisions, distributing different talents in proper positions, and dealing
with urgent situations in prompt actions. We need to be mature in our
wisdom to be preparer/director of this event God calls for faithful and
Xwise servants. 錄,勞뇨
