BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME
I Corinthians 13:4-8
Because God loves me, He is slow to lose patience with me.
Because God loves me, He takes the circumstances of my
life and uses them in a constructive way for my growth.
Because God loves me, He does not treat me as an object to
be possessed and manipulated.
Because God loves me, He has no need to impress me with
how great and powerful He is because He is God nor
does He believe me as His child in order t show me
how important He is.
Because God loves me, He is for me. He wants to see me
mature and develop in His love.
Because God loves me, He does not send down His wrath on
every little mistake I make of which there are many.
Because God loves me, He does not keep sbore of all my sins
and then beat me over the head with them whenever He
gets the chance.
Because God loves me, He is deeply grieved when I do not walk
in the ways that please Him because He sees this as
evidence that I don*t trust Him and love Him as I should.
Because God loves me, He rejoices when I experience His power
and strength and stand up under the pressure of life for
His name's sake.
Because God loves me, He keeps on working patiently with me
even when I feel like giving up and can! see why He
doesn*t give up with me, too.
Because God loves me, He keeps on trusting me when at times I
donl even trust myself.
Because God loves me, He never says there is no hope for me,
rather, He patiently works with me, loves me and
disciplines me in such a way that it si hard for me to
understand the depth of His concern for me.
Because God loves me, He never forsakes me even though many
of my friends might.
Because God loves me, He stands with me when I have reached
the rock bottom of despair, when I see the real me and
compare that with His righteousness, holiness, beauty
and love. It is at a moment like this that I can really
believe that God loves me.

Objective :
1) Students will desire to know God.
2)Students will find practical ways to know God.
Teachers /: This passage requires students to set practical methods of knowing God. Everyone would agree that they
would like to know more about God or know God but unless they are challenged in their daily life to study, meditate,
practice, this lesson will end as another 'paf Christian answers or cliche. Please, make sure you ask students to set
up few practical ways to know God. (devotional life - do they have any devotional materials ? discipleship, daily read
ing of Bible, prayer-network, Christian club....)
Phil. 3:1 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is
a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we
who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence
in the flesh- 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confi
dence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a
Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic right
eousness, faultless. 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I con
sider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have
lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my
own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ -the righteousness that comes 什om God and is
by faith. 10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings,
becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have
already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus
took hold of me.

In Philippians 3, Paul is attacking those who are trying to steel the joy of the Christians in Philippi.
V. 2-3 "Watch out for those who do evil, those dogs, men who insist on cutting the body. We worship God by
His Spirit, and rejoice in our life in Christ Jesus. We do not put any trust in external circumstances.”
When we think of dogs, we think of warm, cuddly pets. In the New Testament times dogs were not pets. They
were wild scavengers that would attack human beings. It was the worst thing you could think of to call some
body a dog.
How does Paul share his life ? He relates two very important attributes in Christian life. Grace & Joy.
Grace is the key to joy. The two words go together. They have the same root word in Greek. To realize that
everything God does in you and through you is by grace, rather than working for it and earning it. Grace is the
secret of joy.
WHO PkUL ?
* Paul was the super-star legalist before he became a believer.
* He had tried the rules and regulations way and it didn’t work.
Read. v. 4 though I myself have reason for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reason to
put confidence in the flesh, I have more. Circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the
tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews. In regard to the law, a Pharisee. As for zeal, persecuting
the church. As for legalistic righteousness, flawless/1
Paul says if you want to compare list, he has them beat by a long shot. He was super legalist.
He challenges us to check five different areas of our lives where it's easy to fall into the trap of legalism.
a. rituals. “1 was circumcised on the eight day, of the people of Israel."
b.race. Ml was of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin." Benjamin was the
purest tribe. Paul was named after the first king, Saul, who was a Benjaminite.
c. religion.
d. rules. “1 was a Hebrew of Hebrews0.
e. reputation.
Mln regard to the law, 1 was a Pharisee, and Paul kept all the rules'*
MAs for zeal and legalistic righteousness, 1 was faultless/*
The point is there is nothing wrong with any of these things. The problem is thinking that they give me points with
God. And they don’t. He loves you unconditionally.

Paul’s Ambition
His joy comes from knowing Christ better and better.
V. 10 "I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His suffering,
becoming like Him in His death."
Paul says his number one goal in life is to know Christ better and better.
How well do you know Jesus Christ?
The word “know" in the Greek is the word “yada”. It means to know intimately, experientially. It is the same
word used when Greeks translated the Old Testament where it says “Adam knew Eve'* and she had a child. It’s
the same word in the New Testament in the verse that said Joseph did not know his wife until Jesus was born.
Amplified version states : MFor my determined purpose is that I may know Christ —— that I may progressively
become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him
more strongly and more clearly." This kind of knowledge is personal and progressive —— it*s continual and ongo
ing.
How do you get to know God in a personal way?
1) Time.
2) Talking and Listening.
3) Trust.
A life without purpose is a killjoy. Maybe you*ve tried everything else and not found happiness. People are looking for
joy in all the wrong places. Joy comes from knowing Jesus. It begins with a decision to say, “God, I want to know You
personally.” Set as a goal in your life to get to know Jesus Christ.

WHERE ARE YOUR ROOTS?
Contemporary Christian singer Amy Grant has been recently preforming pop love songs but she hasn't for
gotten her roots in Gospel-music. 'I'll always sing Gospel songs in my concerts," Grant told the New York
Daily News in a recent interview. 'They are too important to leave out."
The roots from our past in some ways affect us every day. In the rush and tumble of life, it's easy to forget
where we've come from. When the patriarch Moses gave the law to the Israelites in the dessert, he remind
ed them to think about their roots. In Deuteronomy 4:9 and 10, Moses wrote, "Only be careful, and watch
yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart
as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.' Then Moses in the next
few verses reminded the people of a specific occasion, "Remember the day you stood before the Lord at
Horeb.. Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there

value in pausing for a few minutes and considering where God has brought you.

D0N7 YOU ENJOY READING ABOUT JUSTICE IN AN UNJUST WORLD?
Several years ago Joseph Sutera won $9.9 million in the Massachusetts lottery but at the same time through
a real estate scam he was swindling hundreds of people out of their retirement savings. Sutera who is cur
rently serving a five year prison term lost all of his winnings in a recent ruling from a federal bankruptcy
judge. The judge ruled that the 20-year annuity from the lottery would be sold. The money would go to the
victims. Justice was served.
It doesn't always happen that way. Sometimes we look around us at people who are prospering from the
pleasure of others and wonder why lightening doesn’t strike them. The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 37 verse 1
and 2, 'Do not fret because of evil men, or be envious of those who do wrong for like the grass, they will
soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.'
God takes the long range view of life. Instead of striking a crook dead with a lightening bolt, the Lord sees a
year as but a moment in the time of eternity. Maybe you are facing a situation which is unjust. Maybe you
see cheating and lying around you and want it resolved. Possibly you've been falsely accused in your work
place.
I want to challenge you today, take the long range view of life and rest in the fact that revenge and ultimate
justice belongs to God.

HAS YOUR LIFE RECENTLY TAKEN SOME UNEXPECTED TWISTS?
When Shirley Warner was staying with a friend in Big Flats, Wisconsin, a tornado hurdled through the area
•1 tried to pull the mattress over my head, but I couldn't get off the bed,' Shirley said 'And then all of the
sudden, ’Woooof ‘ It was over." The walls of the mobile home and most of the furniture were blown away in
the rushing winds.
After the damage was examined. 24 homes were destroyed and 175 homes were damaged It only took a
few minutes of time.
The natural disasters of life are oulside of our control But there are some choices that we can control. The
One who controls the natural disasters also wants to have a personal relationship with you through his Son
Jesus Christ. But God doesn't force his desires on us but allows us to make a free choice. As Jesus said in
Revelation 3:20, 'Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I
will come in and eat with him, and he with me."
If you haven't found a pers에al relationship with Jesus Christ, then today turn your life over to Christ. If y에
already know Jesus Christ, lhen when unexpected twists take place in your life, you have a place to turn for
comfort and help.
I want to challenge you today, turn to God when the unexpected happens in your life.

HAVE YOU EVER NEEDED A SUBSTITUTE?
Recently scientists in Alaska have been using a substitute human to get a never-before-seen glimpse inside
a volcano. In a $ 1 8 million dollar project with NASA's Telerobotics Research Program, they have aeated
the Dante 2 which is a walking robot. The eight-legged robot descended more than 600 feet into the active
volcano. As the robot sampled gases and checked temperatures, the machine ventured into areas impossi
ble for humans.
A substitute is not a new concept. One of the greatest substitutions was when Jesus Christ came to earth
Though his death on the cross, Jesus sacrificed his life. He gave us a means to live eternally in heaven with
God. As the writer of Hebrews says in chapter 9 verses 27 and 28, 'Just as man is destined to die once, and
after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins o( many people, and he will
appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.* If you have
put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, then you can rejoice in having such a substitute and
such an advocate for you with God. If you don't have a personal relationship with God, maybe today is the
day to find it through a personal relationship with Christ.
I want to challenge you today, think about who is your substitute.

LEARNING STYLES INVENTORY
The Learning Style Inventory (Boston: McBer and Co” 1985) has had great
impact on many teacher's teaching strategy. The inventory suggests that most
students learn best in one or two of the following styles:
Experiential Learners CYeeling*)
Intuitive and people-oriented. They learn best through relationship, creative
expression, and personal experience.
Analytic Leanei정 (Watching and Listening*)
Reflective observers. They learn best by listening and watching.
Common Sense Learners (^Thinking*)
Logical thinkers* They are paractical and learn best through strategies that pro
vide time to process information: discussion, debates, questioning, meditation,
and study.
Dynamic Learners CDoing*)
Active experimenters. They prefer learning experiences that allow for action:
participation, leadership, experience, games, and serving.
In understanding these four styles, it is helpful to keep two principles in mind.
First, most people learn in more than one style, but enjoy learning more in one
primary (their) style. Secondly, when we teach predominantly in one style (like
lecture), we are in danger of stunting the growth of the students in our class who
learn in other styles. A great way to teach is to take your content and ask the
question, “How am I going to teach this in each of the four styles?"
The next time gou prepare for gour Sunday school das% try at least one
strategy from each of the four areas.
EFFECTIVE LESSON PLANNING
Lesson planning is the key to your successful teaching. A successful Christian
education ministry relies on a sucessful teaching ministry in each classroom situation.
We have the truth, the Word of God, and we have excellent curriculums available
today. However, they will not mean much to our students unless we as teachers
effectively transfer the meaning of that truth to them. It has to happen every week
in each classroom. Then what are some of effective ways to share the meswge of
the Gospel?
SEVEN STEPS METHOD
A. Read the Text
1 • Read the Bible and the lesson first
2 • Read as many as possible.
Read as many different translations as possible,
3•
ex) NIV, NASV, King James, etc.
B. What does rt say?
1. Write down your understanding of the passage.
2. Think what the original author wanted to say.
3,. What is God 的ying to me and my saidents.
4. Read and see what other theologians say.
ex) John Calvin, William Hendricksen..
C. How does it apply to me (as a teacher)?
1. How can I apply the passage in my personal life?
Do not teach something that you do not want to
apply in your own life!
2. Repent for your past If you did not live accor
ding to the passage. Clear your conscious before God.
D. How does it appty to my class?
1. Think about your students and their current situa
tions and circumstances. A teacher's most important
task is to design a relevant application to his/her students.
