ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
RY 2021-22
PRESIDENT, ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
SHEKHAR MEHTA Shekhar Mehta, of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, is
President, Rotary International the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for
2021-22. He will be declared the president-nominee on 1st October 2020 if no
RY2021-22 challenging candidates have been suggested.
Mehta acknowledges that current membership trends are a challenge and says that
membership development should be Rotary’s highest priority. He believes that
focusing on regional plans, successfully transitioning Rotaractors into Rotarians,
and increasing diversity and female members could yield a 5 percent net growth in
membership each year.
“A major brainstorming is needed to find effective solutions suited to different areas
of the world,” says Mehta. He adds that regional ethos and culture have to be taken
into account to find localized solutions, as “one size does not fit all.” He believes
Rotary can extend to new geographical areas and countries.
As a strong proponent of Rotary’s strategic plan, Mehta says he will encourage
clubs to use action plans and reinforce the core values of Rotary.
Mehta says Rotary needs to become more contemporary and adaptable by focusing
on partnerships with governments and corporations, expanding partnerships with
organizations that specialize in Rotary’s areas of focus, and investing in technology.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL THEME
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL THEME
(RY2021-2022)
Incoming Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta urged members to
become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving
others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but
also our own.
32
PRESIDENT SHEKHAR MEHTA’S PRESIDENTIAL INITIATIVES
Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta has three special initiatives for the 2021-22 Rotary year aimed
at increasing our impact through service and expanding our reach by introducing new members to Rotary.
Mehta is asking every Rotarian to make membership a responsibility through the Each One, Bring One
campaign.
His initiatives are:
Empowering girls. To address the inequities that girls face worldwide, members will be encouraged to launch a
club-based initiative or be part of a district or global grant that improves the health, well-being, education, and
economic security of girls in their communities and ensures their access to resources.
Rotary Day of Service. Clubs will be asked to collaborate to conduct hands-on service activities with members
of their
communities and share those activities on Rotary Showcase.
Presidential conferences. A series of presidential conferences will highlight club humanitarian efforts in their
communities and around the world. Members should invite a friend to one event so they can learn about
Rotary’s work and be inspired to join us in our commitment to service.
33
ROTARY DAYS OF SERVICE
DEAR FRIENDS:
With Service Above Self at the heart of all we do, we are in a unique position to
provide meaningful, participatory volunteer experiences for Rotary and Rotaract
members while introducing prospective members to our clubs.
I challenge every club to plan and host at least one practical and action-oriented
Rotary Day of Service during the 2021-22 Rotary year. The event should
address a challenge facing your community that fits in one or more of Rotary’s
areas of focus and brings together volunteers from within and outside of Rotary.
This is a chance to create meaningful volunteer opportunities for families and
partnering organizations in your area, regardless of their profession or affiliation
with Rotary. Remember to broadly promote your good work throughout your
community.
With your help, I look forward to doing more good in the world.
SHEKHAR MEHTA
President, Rotary International
RY2021-22
34
ROTARY DAYS OF SERVICE
BE INSPIRED
Motivate Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs to plan innovative
and practical service projects.
Showcase the work of Rotary members as people of action.
Introduce prospective members to your club through a
participatory Rotary Day of Service.
GATHER IDEAS
Look at Rotary Showcase to see the types of projects that your
fellow clubs have undertaken.
You may wish to review the United Nations ’ recognized
international days and Rotary’s themed months and think about
scheduling your Rotary Day of Service accordingly.
Conduct an assessment, which includes working with leaders
from your community or a nearby one to determine the
opportunities for service. What is the biggest challenge? How
can your club help address it?
35
ROTARY DAYS OF SERVICE
PLAN YOUR EVENT
To qualify as a 2021-22 Rotary Day of Service, your event needs to:
Be planned by two or more Rotary, Rotaract or Interact clubs in your country or internationally.
Align with one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus.
Be promoted using at least one media platform (such as Facebook, Twitter, or a local newspaper) to raise interest.
Attract a group of participants in which 25% are not current Rotary members.
An event also needs to meet at least three of these additional guidelines:
Align by topic and take place on a UN-recognized international day or during a Rotary themed month.
Prioritize empowering girls through planned service activities.
Include a Rotary Community Corps during the planning and implementation.
Involve a collaboration with at least one local business, community organization, or government or municipality.
Include a community discussion about how the organizing clubs can continue helping empower the community.
Provide service opportunities that welcome families and participants of all ages and abilities.
Promote event photos and accomplishments on social media using the People of Action resources and the
#RotaryDays and #PeopleofAction hashtags.
Follow up with participants who aren't club members after the event and invite them to get involved with a future
project or attend a club meeting to learn more about your club’s work in the community.
CELEBRATE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In addition to promoting your event on social media, add your completed Rotary Day of Service to Rotary Showcase,
along with photos and videos from the day.
Commemorate your event and service accomplishments with a certificate you’ll receive after your completed project
is on Rotary Showcase.
36
ROTARY CITATION
RY 2021-22
ROTARY CITATION
PLAN YOUR EVENT
To be eligible for the Rotary Citation, clubs need to begin the year as active clubs in good standing – or having paid each invoice
balance in full upon receipt. To verify that your club is in good standing, check your daily club balance report under Club
Administration > Club Finances. You should have an outstanding balance of $0.00. Invoices are due when they are posted, in
mid-January and mid-July.
Rotary club leaders can go into Rotary Club Central and select at least 13 out of 25 goals they wish to apply toward citation
achievement. This flexibility allows clubs to choose the goals that are most relevant and achievable. In addition, many goals will
be self-reported by marking “achieved” in Rotary Club Central.
To achieve the citation:
Go to Rotary Club Central
Review the 25 available goals
Select at least 13 goals (or more than 50% of the available goals)
Achieve those goals
Report achievement in Rotary Club Central
Once you are in Rotary Club Central, navigate to the Goal Center, select the year, and click on the All tab to see the goals.
