VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE
RY 2021-22

RI D3300 DISTRICT OFFICERS VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE

VOCATIONAL SERVICE
Through vocational service, Rotarians are expected to adhere to and promote high ethical standards in all their business dealings, recognize
the worthiness of all useful occupations, and contribute their professional expertise and skills to addressing societal problems and needs.

THE CONCEPT OF VOCATIONAL SERVICE
The Object of Rotary is a philosophical statement of Rotary’s purpose and the responsibilities of Rotarians. The concept of vocational service
is rooted in the second object, which calls on Rotarians to encourage and foster:

High ethical standards in business and professions
The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society

As a Rotarian, how can you put these ideals into action? Consider these suggestions:

Talk about your profession in your club, and take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.
Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.
Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.
Help young people achieve their career goals.
Guide and encourage others in their professional development.

By undertaking these activities, you bring vocational service to life. Vocational service is the essence of Rotary and serves as the foundation
from which we serve our communities around the world.

RY2021-22 District HandBook

RI D3300 DISTRICT OFFICERS VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE

What is a Vocational Service?
 Vocational Service focuses on: Adherence to and promotion of the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including fair
treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors, and the public. The contribution of your vocational talents to solving the
problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.

What does Vocational Service mean?
 Of, relating to, or connected with a vocation or occupation: a vocational aptitude. of, relating to, or noting instruction or guidance in an
occupation or profession chosen as a career or in the choice of a career: a vocational counselor.

4 way test
 Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will It Build Goodwill And Better Friendships?
4. Will It Be Beneficial To All Concerned?

The History Of The Four-Way Test
 The Four-Way Test was conceived in 1932 by businessman Herbert J. Taylor, a member of the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA,
who served as Rotary International president in 1954-55. Having taken on the task of saving a company from bankruptcy, Taylor
developed the test as an ethical guide to follow in all business matters. The company’s survival was credited to this simple
philosophy. Adopted by Rotary International in 1934, The Four-Way Test remains an essential standard against which Rotarians
measure ethical behavior. It has been translated into dozens of languages and promoted by Rotarians worldwide.

YOUTH SERVICE - RYLA
RY 2021-22

RI D3300 DISTRICT OFFICERS YOUTH SERVICE - RYLA

OVERVIEW

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program that brings together youth and young adults, ages 19-30, to
further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary. RYLAs often takes the form of a seminar, camp, or workshop,
generally 4-5 days in length, organized by Rotarians at the club, district, or multidistrict level.

RYLA gives Rotarians the opportunity to mentor promising young leaders serving their own communities and beyond. Rotarians serve as
resources for participants on the path to becoming professional and community leaders. In turn, RYLA can bring new energy to a Rotary
district, inspire ideas for service, increase support of community service projects, and develop future Rotarians.

DISTRICT ACTION GROUP (DAG)
GUIDELINES

DISTRICT ACTION GROUP ON GUIDELINES

PROPOSED GUIDELINES FOR THE FORMATION AND MANAGEMENT OF DISTRICT ACTION GROUP (DAG) DISTRICT 3300

PREAMBLE

When the idea of the District Action Group was mooted in 2016, the objective was to be able to continue efforts of a group of Rotarians advocating a cause, based on the
needs of the community. This was in line with Rotary International’s call for long-term and sustainable projects. It was also a publicity drive for Rotary in District 3300 to
be recognised with a cause the community could relate to. Hence the formation of the first Action Group – District Action Group on Autism (DAGA). The objective of

DAGA is to be the catalyst engaging with government, other like-minded NGOs, and the community in advocating its cause and, to provide opportunities for Rotary Clubs

to carry out projects relating to Autism.

The formation of the District Action Group is in line with the Rotarian Action Group (RI), now changed to Rotary Action Group where Rotarians from all over the world who
subscribe to a specific cause come together to further efforts advocating the area of humanitarian service.

Since then it was suggested to our subsequent District Governors to explore the formation of Action Groups instead of the 1-year term District Committees, should they
or Rotarians who have keen interest to continue advocating a cause that they are passionate about.

FOLLOWING IS THE LIST OF THE CURRENT DISTRICT ACTION GROUPS:

1. District Action Group on Blindness Prevention (formerly known as District Committee on Blindness Prevention) RY2021-22 District HandBook
2. District Action Group on Rotary Education Fund (formerly a club project called Rotary Education Fund – RC Bukit Kiara Sunrise)
3. Rotary Kasih – District 3300 Action Group (2014)
4. District Action Group on Autism (2015)
5. District Action Group on Environmental Sustainability (2018)
6. District Action Group on District Action Group on Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (2018)
7. District Action Group on Cancer Awareness and Prevention (2018)
8. District Action Group On Mental Health Initiative (2020)
