5. Cabin Configuration for Taxi, Takeoff and Landing (OSD)

5.1 General
The aircraft has 76 passenger seats. All pictured seats are certified for TToL or marked as not to be
occupied (see Figure 1-3). Prior to taxi, takeoff and landing cabin components have to be set to their
TTOL position. Lavatory doors are among these components.

During Taxi, Takeoff and Landing (TTOL)

• All stowage doors must be closed.
• All lavatories must not be occupied.
• All curtains must be stowed.

The confirmation must be performed by visual inspection.

The Figure 1-3 shows the required status of passenger/crew seats, tables, doors and curtains in the pas-
senger compartment during taxi, takeoff and landing.

EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT

B. Cabin Escape Facilities and Supplies (Portable)

NOTE: Refer to Figure 2-1 above for location and number of portable emergency equipment.
Pla-cards show where the equipment is stowed.

(1) Crash Axe

The crash axe is used to cut through light structure interior doors, panels, and windows to get
access for firefighting or to exit during an emergency. The axe has an insulated handle which
is resistant to high voltages.

(2) Emergency Location Transmitter (ELT)

The emergency radio beacon is a compact, lightweight hand portable unit. The transmitter and
the battery are housed in a yellow thermoplastic case.
If activated it transmits homing signals on both 121.5 MHz (civil) and 243.0 MHz (military) dis-
tress frequencies together with 406.025 MHz in accordance with COSPAS/SARSAT. An audi-
ble continuous swept tone indicates live beacon transmissions.
In addition to the beacon a speech mode is provided. If search and rescue teams are near
then voice radio contact may be possible.
For method of use, refer to the component operation instructions and placards.

(3) Survival Kits

The kits are designed to support passengers and crew when using the life rafts with food,
water, medical and a variety of signal equipment. The survival kits are strictly for emergency
use only, they are sealed and should not be used for any routine problems. An inventory of the
survival kit contents is attached.

(4) Life Vests

Life vests are provided for use in the event of an over-water emergency landing. Instructions
for use of the life vests are found on each vest.
In general passenger life vests are installed throughout the cabin at each seat that is certified
for taxi, takeoff and landing. Crew life vests are located in the cabin attendant seats and in the
cockpit.

C. Miscellaneous Items

NOTE: Refer to Figure 2-1 above for location and number of portable emergency equipment.
Pla-cards show where the equipment is stowed.

(1) Flashlights

Flashlights are installed in the cockpit, in or at cabin attendant seats.
They are provided for use by crew members in the event of darkness in or outside of the air-
craft e.g. after an evacuation of the aircraft.

(2) Demo Kits Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany

The demo kits are provided to assist cabin attendants in demonstrating emergency proce-
dures. Each kit contains the following equipment, for demonstration use only:
• Demo seat belt
• Demo oxygen mask
• Demo life vest

(3) Seat Belt Extension cLufthansa Technik
Use in conjunction with the seat belt in the event the seat belt is too short for correct wear.

(4) Megaphone
To assist in dissemination of commands during an emergency e.g. an evacuation, a high-
power, electronic megaphone.

(5) Manual Release Tool (MRT)
The MRT is for manual unlocking a passenger emergency oxygen container.
Insert the pin end of the tool into the operating rod of the electrical latch, and push. The unit
door opens.

D. Firefighting Equipment

NOTE: Refer to Figure 2-1 above for location and number of portable emergency equipment.
Placards show where the equipment is stowed.

(1) Fire Extinguishers

(a) Halon fire extinguishers are provided to fight fires involving combustible liquids or elec-
trical equipment (class A, B and C). Avoid skin contact with this extinguishing agent, as
it may cause freezing.

Operation of a halon portable fire extinguisher
1 Remove the portable fire extinguisher from the bracket.

NOTE: Read the instruction bonded on the fire extinguishers bottle.

2 Carry the portable fire extinguisher by its carrying handle.
3 When near the fire push the safeguard backward in direction of the arrow.

NOTE: This will release the lever. Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany

4 Point the extinguisher to the base of the fire.

NOTE: The optimum distance for effective firefighting is between 1.2 m (4 ft.)
and 1.8 m (6 ft.) with the fire extinguisher held within 30 degrees from
vertical.

5 To start the flow of extinguishant, depress the lever. cLufthansa Technik

a Only the fully developed cloud of extinguishant is effective, not the stream from
the nozzle outlet. If the cloud does not develop around the fire, move back.

b NEVER point the full stream into liquid fires. Start at the base and always fight
the front of the fire and follow the flames.

c When fighting fires on burning solids, apply the extinguishant in sharp bursts.
6 Move the nozzle from side to side across, if necessary.
7 To stop the flow of extinguishant, release the lever.

(2) Fire Proof Gloves Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany

The fire proof gloves are for use by crew member to grasp hot metal or burning parts.
Fire Proof gloves have an exterior that resists flame and heat, with an interior lining for comfort
and further insulation.

(3) Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE)

Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) supplies breathable gas to crew members for protec-
tion from smoke or noxious fumes caused by fire. Each PBE provides approximately 20 min-
utes of oxygen. PBE’s are vacuum sealed in foil bags inside storage containers.
