DESCRIPTION
The passengers can connect a laptop/notebook computer, iPhone, Blackberry or similar mobile device to
access the internet from the cabin through RJ-45 Ethernet connectors or wireless antennas via the
Satcom system. All you need is a:
- Laptop/notebook computer with an Ethernet socket or wireless adapter,
- RJ-45 Ethernet cable,
- Operating system:
- Windows 98 or higher,
- MacIntosh OS 9 or higher.
- Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).
The system uses Simphone software to connect to the internet. The laptop/notebook computer, mobile
device is connected over the Local Area Network (LAN) to the Cabin Telephony Data Unit (CTDU) which
then transfers data via the High Speed Transceivers (HST) to the Satcom link. The Ground Earth Station
(GES) is part of the INMARSAT network and connects the user to the internet.
Two RJ-11 connectors are installed in the cabin to allow the use of fax machines during flight. The RJ-11
connectors are installed in the mission command center and the central VIP lavatory area high stowage.
The fax machines are considered as “loose items” of equipment. For more information refer to the fax
machine user guides.

crew must be informed before you attempt to reset the system. No further attempts shall be made during
the flight. If the TRIP legends come on for the two converters, the 220VAC system shall be switched off
and reported to maintenance.

VIDEO TOUCH SCREEN– POWER OUTLETS MAINTENANCE CONTROLS
From the VTS power screen touch and hold the masked maintenance button at the front of the aircraft
layout to move to the maintenance control screens then touch the POWER button. From here the two
different GFCI’s for the cabin 220VAC power outlet system can be monitored and controlled.
There is one set of switches for each static converter protection circuit. A Ground Fault Circuit
interrupter (GFCI) protects each static converter. If a fault occurs, the GFCI switches the applicable
static converter to OFF and the associated TRIP legend comes on red. The ON legend comes on green
when the system is ON. When the TEST switch is touched it brings on the TRIP legend (red) and the
ON (green) stays on. In the cockpit on 9000VU the FAULT light comes ON. A second touch of the
RESET switch resets the system to normal operation.
WARNING: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO RESET THE 220VAC 50HZ SYSTEM MORE THAN ONE (1)
TIME DURING A FLIGHT.

CONTROL SWITCHES
A 110 VAC ON/OFF switch is located on the FWD partition of the mission command center. This switch
must be in the ON position before the system can operate. When the back lighting is green the switch is

MASTER CONTROL UNIT (MCU)
The MCU provides power management for interfacing the components of the system. Power is
distributed through three of the five available columns. Each column supports three power lines of
115 VAC per power line. The current in each respective column is continuously measured. Power faults
are indicated in the cabin via the outlet units. The MCU monitors total power consumption and limits
consumption when the defined limit is reached. An indication of insufficient power is available at the
outlet units. Power supply to the MCU is through a circuit breaker on the G1VU CB panel (Ref. 02.080).
The MCU is located in the FWD avionics bay.

IN-SEAT POWER CONVERTER (ISPC)
The ISPC provides the interface between the MCU and the outlet unit. It transforms the 115 VAC 400Hz
input to 110 VAC 60Hz for the outlet units. The ISPC monitors the output power and connects or
disconnects the outlet units according to the power status.
The main functions of the ISPC are:
- input power conversion,
- over current and short circuit protection,
- Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) detection,
- outlet current measurement,
- over temperature detection.
Each ISPC is able to support two outlets and provide 225VA. The maximum peak power per outlet is
150 VA.

OUTLET UNIT (OU)
The OU has an electrical socket and an LED. It is safety protected against passenger misuse. A safety
interlock mechanism ensures that there is no power at the pins until the plug is correctly inserted and a
sensor monitors the mating plug to make sure that it is fully engaged. The LED provides indications as
follows:
- steady green - power available,
- steady amber - power temporarily not available (too many users),
- steady red - power not available,
- LED off - BITE fault or no power available to system.
The OU is universal and you can use power connectors as follows:
- European (Euro), European (SCHUKO adapter), Swiss 3-prong, Italian 3-prong, UK 3-prong,
- American standard 2-prong, 3-prong, American Polarized, Australian 2-prong and 60° 2 and 3 prong.
PED POWER IN USE INDICATOR (PPUI)
The PPUI is installed in a prominent position so that the cabin crew can see if the associated outlet is in
use. The PPUI comes on blue when a PED is using the system power.

OPERATION
NOTE: The 110VAC/60HZ electrical power must not be used during critical phases taxi, take-off and
landing.
In the flight compartment, on the overhead panel, the COMMERCIAL ON/OFF switch on panel 35VU must
be set to ON and the OFF legend must be off. This is the normal condition for this switch.
On the panel 35VU, the GALLEY AUTO FAULT OFF switch must be set to ON and the FAULT/OFF
legends must be off. This is the normal condition for this switch.
Make sure that the 110VAC switch located on the FWD partition on the mission control center is
illuminated amber (power off). To switch OFF the system, push the switch and the amber membrane light
comes on.
Push the 110VAC switch located on the FWD partition on the mission control center, and the green
integral membrane light comes on.
The LED located on each OU shows the power availability. When the LED is green, the power is
available. For any other status, the power is not available.
WARNING: EACH OUTLET CAN SUPPLY UP TO 150VA, SO ITEMS CONNECTED TO THE OUTLET
SHOULD BE LIMITED TO PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES (PED). THE MAXIMUM
POWER CONSUMPTION PER ISPC IS 225VA.
The PPUI associated with each outlet is in clear view of the cabin and comes on blue whenever a device
is connected to an outlet and switched on.

GENERAL
The oxygen system consists of:
- A fixed oxygen system for the cockpit (Ref. Airbus CCOM),
- A fixed oxygen system for the cabin,
- A portable oxygen system.
The oxygen system supplies adequate breathing oxygen to the crew and passengers in case of
depressurization or presence of smoke or toxic gas and for first aid purposes.
A typical emergency descent profile takes approximately 13 minutes to descend from a normal cruise
altitude of 39000ft to a new altitude 10000 ft.
