DESCRIPTION

The Airshow 4200D provides in-flight information using dynamic media displays to show the passengers
the flight information. Real-time flight information and 3D moving maps are available according to the
customer options chosen. In addition, the cabin crew can control the system using an Airshow Control
Unit (at the VCC) and a mouse controller (at the mission command center FWD partition).

The Airshow 4200D features all the same functions as the Airshow 4200D plus the addition of 16:9
widescreen, digital video output.

The system has these components:

- Digital Media Unit (DMU) located in the avionics bay,

- Airshow Mouse,

- Airshow Control Unit (ACU),

- PVIS switch (Panel 9000VU) cockpit ON/OFF control.

Airshow 4200D offers airlines the ability to dynamically and automatically control the presentation of a
wide variety of information, entertainment and promotional features.

- Automate content delivery based on flight parameters and time triggers,

- Create a dynamic script for presenting features based upon the current flight (destination and
departure cities), aircraft type and flight status,

ACU

The ACU is the main input device for the PVIS. Its front plate has four push switches in line under the
LCD for control. The LCD has a matrix of 20 characters on each of the 4 lines for indication. The color of
the characters is dark blue against a yellow-green background. The background is backlit. The four
pushbuttons are membrane type switches. You can use them for the selection of the menus in the
system. The indicated menu on the LCD helps you to find the correct sub-menu.

The Airshow 4200D gets its software from a customized CD that includes the operational software and a
configuration database. The customer options are selected at the time of purchase.

These subsequent main menus are available in most customer options:

- SET TIME TO DEST,
- SET DISPLAY MODE,
- SET LANGUAGES,
- SET PRAYER,
- SET RELATIVE LOCATION INDICATOR,
- SET GMT,
- DAY/NIGHT VIEWING,
- SCREEN BLANKING.

In SET DISPLAY MODE these subsequent sub-menus are available:

- PROFILE MODE,
- MAP MODE,
- INFO MODE,
- TOTAL ROUTE.

In the SET TIME TO DEST menu, the time to the destination is set for a countdown. The remaining time
of flight is shown until the destination is reached. The destination is set automatically from the cockpit
and it will only be necessary to use the SET TIME TO DEST if the link with the cockpit is not available for
some operational reason.

In SET LANGUAGES, the language used on the display can be changed. In SET GMT the correct
Greenwich Mean Time must be set. The DMU needs this information to compute the correct local times
for the INFO MODE indications. In DAY/NIGHT VIEWING the brightness of the display can be set. In
SCREEN BLANKING the subsequent sub-menus are available:

- DISABLE BLANKING,
- ENABLE BLANKING.

The main modes of operation can be selected from the SET DISPLAY menu. These are:

(1) PROFILE MODE

The PROFILE MODE supplies an automatic cycling of all available screens. It cycles through a
preset sequence of LOGO, MAP, INFO. The default LOGO is the Airshow Logo. Airlines can
however, select another Logo if required.

(2) MAP MODE
The MAP MODE supplies only maps.

(3) INFO MODE
The INFO MODE supplies the flight information pages.

(4) TOTAL ROUTE
The TOTAL ROUTE supplies graphics and route information.

MOUSE CONTROLLER

The cabin interface for the Airshow 4200D system is via a computer mouse. The mouse is installed on
the FWD partition of the mission command center. The video output of the Airshow 4200D is routed to
the IFE for selection on the cabin displays. Once the Airshow feed is selected, interaction via the mouse
is intuitive and is viewed on the FWD 10.4” VTS (located on the FWD partition of the mission command
center). You can use the mouse and click on the on-screen icons to select the available menus. You can
then use the mouse to navigate and select the required items for display on-screen. Items such as the
news ‘tickers’ can be selected in this way.

DIGITAL MEDIA UNIT

New hardware incorporated into the Airshow 4200D includes a 80GB ruggedized hard drive, a 1.4 GHz
Pentium processor and dual ATI Radeon graphics processors - which provides the rich, multimedia
graphics. In addition, a host of new input ports are available on the Airshow 4200D to make it easy to run
diagnostics and system checks, as well as to load new software.

OPERATION
The Airshow can be controlled automatically using predefined parameters, or manually by the crew.

AUTOMATIC CONTROL – PROFILE MODE

In PROFILE mode, the Airshow display is based on predefined flight parameters, requiring no additional
input from the crew. For example, the display may show an information page and a map of the entire
route showing the destination.

The PROFILE mode display is configured at the factory and is based on the aircraft's speed and altitude.
The unit enters PROFILE mode when power is applied, and it remains in effect until a different mode is
selected. To return the unit to PROFILE mode after another mode has been displayed, cabin attendants
must select PROFILE from the MODE menu

MANUAL CONTROL
The Airshow can be controlled manually by the cabin crew through the ACU. The cabin crew uses the
ACU to:
• Select a display mode,
• Manually set the time to destination,
• Select the display language(s),
• Set or reset Greenwich Mean Time (GMT),
• Dim the display for nighttime viewing.

DISPLAY MODES

The Airshow has multiple display modes that can be selected from the ACU:
• PROFILE,
• MAP,
• INFO,
• TOTAL ROUTE.

SET DISPLAY MODE

(1) From the MAIN menu, push the down or up button (if necessary) to move the SET DISPLAY
MODES to the >.

(2) Push the SET button to select the DISPLAY MODES. The ACU then shows the MODE menu.

(3) Push the down or up buttons to select the required mode:

SET TIME TO DESTINATION

Time to destination is internally counted down while the aircraft is in flight. The current time to destination
is shown on the SET TIME TO DEST menu and may be shown on the information pages.

(1) From the MAIN menu, push the down or up button (if necessary) to move SET TIME TO DEST to
the >.

(2) Push the SET button to select SET TIME TO DEST. The system then shows the TTD screen with
current time to destination. If the time shown is correct press MENU to return to the ACU main
menu.

(3) Push - - - > to show the cursor (an underline) under the leftmost digit (time to destination can only
be changed once the cursor has been shown on the display).

(4) Enter the time to destination in hours and minutes. For example, if the time to destination is 10
hours and 25 minutes, the TTD entry should read 10.25.

Note: If the time to destination is less than 10 hours, you must enter a leading zero as the
first digit. For example if the time to destination is 6 hours and 42 minutes, the TTD
entry should read 06.42.

(a) Move the cursor to the digit to be changed by pushing - - >.

(b) Push ‘incr’ until the digit shown is correct.

(c) Push ‘set’ to accept the current display as the correct time to destination. The cursor is
removed from the display.

(5) Push ‘menu’ to return to the ACU Main menu.

Notes: Time to destination is automatically calculated from data entered in the cockpit. If the
crew want to override this default calculation, it is possible to manually enter the data
with the procedure described before. In this case, it is the manual data entered that is
broadcast in the full cabin and appears on the information pages.

In manual mode, to come back to automatic calculation from data entered in cockpit,
select ---- value.

At the next initialization, the system reverts back to the default to automatic calculation
from data entered in the cockpit.
