AUXILIARY SMOKE DETECTION SYSTEM

There is a standalone smoke detection system installed in the cabin that works independently from the
main cabin smoke system. One smoke detector is installed in the central VIP lavatory area high stowage
and one smoke detector is installed in the passenger zone OHSC VCC (Overhead Stowage
Compartment Video Control Center) to detect smoke. If smoke is detected a warning horn and
indicators on the cockpit overhead panel 9010VU sound.

Note: Smoke detection from the high stowage and OHSC VCC are not displayed on the ACP, FAP or

SUPPLEMENT

GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS) is used for functional control, testing and monitoring
of the cabin communication systems. The CIDS integrates most of the cabin systems for communications
and indications:

- Passenger Address (PA),
- Cabin and cockpit interphone,
- Evacuation signaling,
- Smoke detection and indication,
- Passenger information signs,
- Call indicators (AIP and ACP only),
- Service interphone,
- Emergency lighting test,
- Main cabin lighting ON/OFF control,
- AFT Entry lighting control,
- Doors/Slides,
- Water/Waste related indication.

SYSTEM PHILOSOPHY

The system philosophy is based on:

- Two functional units for the data bus control, the DIRECTOR 1 and 2. One director is active, the
second one in standby. Immediate switchover is provided to the second director in case of failure of
the first one.

- Addressable Decoder/Encoder Units (DEU) for the interface between the data bus cabin systems
and director.

- Data bus lines (four top lines for PAX related systems and cabin lighting and two mid lines for crew
related systems).

- Configuration of cabin zones in address tables, which are stored in the Cabin Assignment Module
(CAM) which is plugged into the FWD Attendant Panel (FAP).

SYSTEM FUNCTION

The configuration data is stored in the CAM installed in the FAP.

It contains many system properties and cabin layout information. For example, it defines if a PA
announcement is accompanied by a chime or if a sound is broadcast through the PA System or C/A
loudspeakers only.

The DEUs, FAP and Attendant Indication Panels (AIP’s) contain comprehensive built in test equipment
circuitry. This allows the CIDS to detect faults in the connected systems and CIDS units. If there is a
failure, a CIDS CAUTION signal is immediately sent to the respective location.

- CIDS CAUT light on FAP for cabin crew related functions,
- Messages on the FAP for cabin crew and maintenance related indications,
- Messages on ECAM display for cockpit crew and maintenance related indications.

PA PRIORITIES

The passenger address system provides adequate sound levels at each passenger seat through
loudspeakers. In addition, one loudspeaker is installed in each lavatory and each galley area.

Passenger address volume increases automatically as soon as an engine is running and in case of
depressurization.

The PA is operated from the ATTND handset.

Announcements from the cockpit or the cabin are broadcast to loudspeakers located in the cabin,
lavatories and ATTND stations.

The PA priority levels are as defined below:
- 1st priority : cockpit station,
- 2nd priority : purser station,
- 3rd priority : other cabin attendant stations.
An established PA announcement may be overridden from another station, with higher priority. This
leads to the message (as an example) "WAIT CAPTAIN" on the AIP of the interrupted station. At the end
of the override, the interrupted station is active again.

PA ZONES

The PA is split in three zones.

GENERAL

The passenger call system provides the facilities for passengers to call the cabin crew for assistance.
The general lighting controls the call system in association with components of the In Flight
Entertainment (IFE) System.

In the mission command center, the crew rest area, the VVIP zone and the VIP zone, the call switches
are located in the Passenger Control Units (PCU’s) at each passenger seat location.

In the director/staff zone and the passenger zone the call buttons are located in the Passenger Service
Information Units (PSIU) above each seat position.

In the lavatory A, D and E, the FWD VIP lavatory and the central VIP lavatory the call switches are
located in the “call” PCU’s. Each switch has a pictogram to identify it.

A call light is installed outside the VIP lavatories to identify the location of the passenger call.

To alert the cabin crew to calls from the cabin speakers in the FWD entrance area and the AFT galley
areas a chime sounds when a call has been placed. The chime can be silenced by pressing the NIGHT
FLIGHT button on the VTS. This will mean that if a call is placed it will only appear on the VTS and the
chime will not sound.

Calls can be reset from the VTS by pressing the CALL RESET button, press the button once to reset the
most recent call. Press and hold the CALL RESET button to reset all of the cabin calls.

Attendant Information Panels (AIP) are installed at the FWD and AFT entry areas, these show the
locations of any call placed from the lavatories or from the director/staff zone or the passenger zone. Any
call placed from the other VIP zones of the aircraft will not be indicated on the AIP’s.

Calls placed from different cabin zones will be indicated on the three different ACP’s (Area Call Panels)
depending on the zone that the call was placed from.

The table below shows which ACP will indicate a cabin call depending on which zone the call was placed
from:

night. The FWD and AFT ACPs are also inhibited in the NIGHT FLIGHT mode.

NOTE: When a call is placed from a seat in the mission command center, the crew rest area, the VVIP

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

GENERAL

The Passenger Entertainment System (PES) is an integrated system that distributes audio and video
signals to the different cabin zones/areas. Passengers can select from these sources:
- Common Blu-ray players,
- Passenger Visual Information System (PVIS) (Airshow 4200D System),
- Auxiliary inputs for portable devices (iPod, games consoles, DVD players, laptop computers),

The common video source equipment is located in the Video Control Center (VCC) and is available to all
cabin areas.

Common entertainment sources available to all cabin zones/areas are:
- Four Blu-Ray players,
- HDMI input source (common),
- RCA input source (common),
- Passenger Visual Information System (PVIS).

Local entertainment sources available to the local zones/areas only are:
- VVIP Zone - Two HDMI sockets and two RCA sockets,
- VIP Zone – Two HDMI sockets and two RCA sockets.

The passengers can listen to the audio input sources through individual headsets, which can be
connected to the jack plugs at each seat position. The VIP zones/areas have Hi-Fi speakers to increase
the audio quality in these areas. The speakers are installed above the ceiling. In the VIP zones/ areas,
the speakers can also be used for the boarding music.

The passengers can view the video input sources on LCD monitors. There is one 21.5” LCD monitor
installed in the crew rest area, one 21.5” LCD monitor in the mission command center, three 21.5” LCD
monitors in the VVIP zone, four 21.5” LCD monitors in the VIP zone, two 21.5” LCD monitors in the
director/staff zone and two 21.5” LCD monitors installed in the passenger zone. The passenger zone is
also equipped with eight OHSC mounted 12” retractable LCD monitors.

Passengers use Keyboard Touch Screens (KTS) to select the audio and video programs. The KTS in
each area control the monitors and HI-FI speakers. All seat positions are provided with individual control
of the headset audio which can be selected to a different audio channel if required.

Two 10.4” Video Touch Screens (VTS), one at the mission command center and one in the AFT galley
area are used for system control. These are the main cabin crew control points for the PES and other
cabin systems.
