Issue:
LVG-16/2nd Quarter/2021-22

“Success comes to those who work hard and stays with those
who don’t rest on the laurels of the past.”

We live in a world which is so different from the world we grew up in, the one we were

educated in. The world today is changing at such an accelerated rate that we educators

need to pause and reflect on this entire system of education. It was Margaret Mead who
said, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” We at Lotus Valley

International School, Gurugram work at implementing a well-balanced and holistic

curriculum to ensure that the learners who walk into the portals of the school, not only
love their school years but also get trained and proficient to face life’s challenges.

Michael Jordan said ‘Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win

championships.’ This edition of the quarterly e-magazine, ‘ ’, is an honest

effort to showcase the talents of our budding authors, poets and artists, providing them

with a platform to launch themselves and reach the sky. The outstanding articles, poems

and artwork of our gifted and innovative minds are sure to captivate the imagination of

the readers. With complete faith in their passion and confidence in their work, we are

sure that their ideas and presentations will excite and elate your thoughts.

If innovation and noble ideas are keys to bright future, then we can surely remain
assured of our place under the pedagogic sun. We put forward a distinctive blend of
offerings in the areas of knowledge and enterprise in the form of encouraging students in
debates, elocution, cultural events etc. The school holds co-scholastic programmes where
multifarious disciplines like, vocational skills, self defence, art, music, dance, etc are
taught under the guidance of renowned coaches and trainers.

This edition of the quarterly e-magazine is yet another milestone that marks our growth,
unfolds our imagination and gives life to our thoughts and aspirations. It unleashes a
wide spectrum of creative skills ranging from writing, editing to designing the magazine.
The hard-work and the dedication of the entire editorial team is highly commendable
which has resulted in the publication of this issue of the quarterly magazine.

Sincere gratitude to our Director-Principal, Ms Anita Malhotra for entrusting us with the
responsibility and for being a constant support throughout the process, from the
conceptualization of the idea to the last stage of publication.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents for their continued support to

the institution and its endeavours. We hope you would enjoy your journey as you sail

through this enchanted ocean of brilliance. We wish you all happy and fun-filled days
with your loved ones…

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the DR. SHAYAMA
quiet voice at the end of the day saying 'I will try again CHONA
tomorrow’.
Padma Shri, Padma
Tough times do not last, tough people do. This truly holds Bhushan Awardee
true for each one of us. The past few months have made us
stronger to challenge our own boundaries and limitations.
While it is easier to wallow in self-pity, people across the
world have stepped up to fight against bereavement and
misery.

I am proud of the manner in which the school, led by the
Director-Principal, Ms Anita Malhotra and her team of
teachers have never lost sight of the need of the hour –
ensuring that education never ceases and learning never
stops. Life isn’t always predictable or smooth, it throws us
many curveballs and we need to learn to take these in our
stride and remain unfazed.

Providing ample educational opportunities is one of the prime fundamental obligations
each generation owes to the next. The term education encompasses more than just
knowledge. It is a harmonious blend of a well chalked out academic and co-curricular
programme to enable students attain their full potential and develop sound work habits.
We persevere to equip our students with all round abilities and a zeal to become ideal,
capable and confident human beings, in order to contribute to society in the future as
global citizens.

Activity based and experiential learnings have been the core tools in our teaching learning
process, thus giving our learners various platforms and opportunities to bloom and shine.
We have successfully conducted various virtual events like Commfluence, Lotus
Discourse, trainings and workshops for learners and teachers, Parent Participation
Programmes, etc. thus giving our learners and facilitators, the huge platform and the
never-ending opportunities to groom themselves and bring out their best potential.

The vast spread of Covid also led to the changes in the CBSE Board examinations. The
teachers and the learners took the challenge in the right stride and came up with better
preparation and confidence. We wish these children success and very best of
opportunities. May they achieve all that they have always aspired for. I am sure that they
will all make the school, their teachers and us proud, as always. “Hope is like the sun,
which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.”- Samuel
Smiles. Leaving behind the shadows of yesterday, let us all fill our lives with immense
hope for a healthy and a bright future next year!

“It’s a mark of an educated mind to be able to
entertain a thought without accepting it”.

The school endeavours to ignite young minds and

build an educational community that serves the

purpose of this tenet.

Learning is a dynamic, ever-evolving process but

what differentiates education from literacy is the

ability to appreciate an opposing point of view in the

face of contradictory evidence. It is a journey

towards self-actualization in a world that is

constantly changing and where the validity of ideas

is constantly challenged. Due to the rapid pace of

change, our children will need the ability and the Ms ANITA MALHOTRA

courage to think for themselves and make their State & CBSE Awardee

choices with responsibility.

At Lotus Valley, we aim to help our children become global citizens and adhere to

the paradigm of inclusivity to be able to contribute significantly towards the

society. Aligning with above perspective, our learners are encouraged to participate

in various Inter-House, Intra-School and Inter-School competitions to work on

their innate potential and exhibit their talents.

I believe, if one has to succeed in achieving ones set goals, it can only be possible

through partnering with parents, the first educators of the child especially during

these difficult times. A warm and trustworthy relationship between children and

parents can reap benefits for the children, helping them climb the ladder of success.
Your child’s learning involves and revolves around an effective partnership

between home & school.
‘Let us keep alive the child’s in born sense of wonder, let us arouse their curiosity to
discover the mystery of the world we live in!’ As they do, the experiences

simultaneously fuel emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and ethical

development! At LVIS Gurugram, we enjoy this journey with our children, reliving
and rediscovering the magic of learning! ‘Each morning, we are born again …what
matters the most is whether we have given our best today.’

The quarterly e-magazine is eloquently chronicled that presents the school

activities as well work of our learners with its creative expressions and thoughts. To
quote once again, Browning aptly said- “Welcome the thunder and the sunshine”

and look forward to a fulfilling and enriching years with the Lotus Valley family.

“Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from
and where they are going.”

Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram
conducted the Annual Virtual Language
Orientation Session on Saturday, 9th October
2021 for parents and learners of Grade VIII
going to Grade IX (2022-23). The event gave
an overview of an augmentation in the
popularity of each language, training, and
learning.
The session commenced with Ganesh
Vandana in French followed by the respective
language facilitators who presented their
proposal and guidance to help learners make
their 2nd Language choice amongst the
available options – French, German, Spanish,
Sanskrit & Hindi for the session 2022-23.

“All of Science is nothing more than the refinement of everyday
thinking.”

Science and technology are the backbone of
development and what can be more engaging for
learners than celebrating a week towards
celebrating the importance of Science in our
lives. Keeping in sync with the theme of NEP-
2020, Science Fest, Science-A-Thon was
celebrated with great fervour by the learners and
teachers of grades IV-XII from 9th Aug-13th
Aug’21.

The objective of celebrating this Fest was to
stimulate imagination, whip up creativity, build
love for the subject, update the learners with
respect to latest buzz in science & technology
and application of theoretical knowledge in a
joyous manner.

A plethora of activities were conducted across
grades IV-XII. Starting from understanding the
Archimedes’ Principle through boat making
activity to turning forensic experts and
analysing finger prints of family members. It
was heartening to see their enthusiastic
participation and innovative ideas.

Science-a-thon activities enthused the
students with confidence, deeper
understanding of the concepts and
proved as a great platform for learners
for the presentation of their talent which
outshined their personalities.

SY-FY- (Scientific You Vs
Fantasized you): Grade XII

Assessments are to monitor students’ learning
and provide ongoing feedback that can further
be used by instructors to improve their
teaching pedagogies. More specifically,
assessments help students identify their
strengths and weaknesses and target areas that
need work and help teachers recognize where
students are struggling and address problems
immediately.

The third cycle of Periodic Tests for Grades
IV & V while the second cycle of tests for
Grades VI to VIII started from 15th
November’21. The third Periodic Test was
based on an innovative approach where in
learners were assessed on the basis of on-the-
spot assessment and research work on various
topics.

The subjects were clubbed together to make it
interesting and fun for learners to attempt the
research work. This new way of assessment
came out to be challenging yet fruitful
learning experience for Lotus Valley learners.

Periodic Test III for Grades IX-XII
commenced w.e.f. August 27, 2021 and
concluded on September 13, 2021.

The tests included multiple choice questions
as directed by CBSE which were assertion-
reason and case based. The tests were taken
on MS forms and the duration was of 60
minutes. However, the test for English
language and literature included both the
subjective and objective questions. The result
was discussed with Director-Principal Ma’am
on September 16, 2021. Retest was also
conducted for the absentees.

“Challenges are what makes life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes them
meaningful”

Lotus Valley International School takes
pride in successfully helping the learners of
Grades IV-VIII get accustomed to Hybrid
mode learning and adopt a programmatic
approach. In every crisis, the institution has
chosen the higher path- the path of
compassion, courage, understanding and
love. There seemed to be a look of
recognition beaming from the eyes of the
learners while entering the temple of
learning.

After receiving a positive response from
the remedial sessions conducted for senior
grades, the school decided to move one
step ahead and commence On Campus
classes.

As per the guidelines by Haryana
Government, On-Campus classes were
initiated in Hybrid mode on Wednesdays
and Fridays for the learners of Grades X
and XII. They were also called to school on
Saturday for remedial classes to have a
better understanding of the subject.

In addition, to ensure comprehensive and
rigorous practice on the OMR sheet and to
help the learners gain confidence, Mock
Examination for Grades IX-XII also took
place in an offline mode. An encouraging
attendance of 100% was observed during
the examinations while keeping in mind the
safety protocols.

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training
of the mind to think.”

Competitive Examinations conducted in the
form of Olympiads at Lotus Valley
International School enable the learners to
not only enhance their intellectual
and logical skills but also their reasoning
capabilities. Furthermore, these exams help
in healthy academic competitions and assist
in the development of competitive spirit
amongst the students.

Keeping in mind the endless benefits of
Olympiad exams, the learners continued their
journey on the path of learning in the months
of October and November.

IEO exam was conducted successfully on
24th October’21 while the IGKO exam took
place on 14th November’21. These exams
were scheduled on Saturday and Sunday to
enable the learners attempt them with full
zeal and preparation.

Interaction with the Monitors of Grades IV-VIII on a regular basis has always been a
pleasure and helps in understanding the learners insight on various issues, their feedback
and learning experiences. The hourly meet is packed with good chit chat with the young
leaders and each meet unveils the aptitude, maturity and the confidence of the learners.

According to Vygotsky (1978), the zone of
proximal development refers to the
difference between what a learner can do
without help and what he or she can
achieve with guidance and encouragement
from a skilled partner.

To scaffold and bridge the gap, Lotus
Valley International School organized an
Open House session for learners and their
parents.
Learners’ feedback was shared so that the
teachers and parents together could design
an action plan to devise ways to enrich
their learning experience.

The main objective of the open
house meetings was to create a
common platform, where teachers
and parents come together to
discuss student’s performance.

Parents were encouraged to
appreciate students’ participation in
all academic activities. The Open
house was concluded by
appreciating the joint efforts of
parents and teachers.
