NARRATIVE REPORT

“Action indeed is the sole medium of expression for ethics”

- Jane Addams

If one is aiming to live a just, and thus ethical, life, then their acts in
both their professional and personal lives should be virtuous. This is where
professional ethics begins. Professional ethics were founded as a guiding set of
ideas that help determine what constitutes good behavior of those in positions
of authority, and they are continually being improved. In a nutshell,
professional ethics are the criteria by which we assess the legitimacy of
authority.

Pursuant to the provisions of Paragraph (e), Article II, of R.A No. 7836,
otherwise known as the “Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994”
and Paragraph (a), Section 6, P.D No. 223, as amended, the Board for
Professional Teachers hereby adopts and promulgates the following “Code of
Ethics for Professional Teachers”.

The School-Based Orientation on Revisiting Code of Ethics for
Professional Teachers was held in person for the kindergarten teachers of Rizal
Elementary School on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. at the PASBE
room. The program was started by an audio visual presentation of National
Anthem and followed by a prayer. The "Panunumpa ng Lingkod ng Bayan"
was directed by Ms. Rose Ann Merencillo and the teachers. Mrs. Cindy Lopez
checked everyone's attendance by having them sing. Everyone was there and
having a good time. "A Short Story for your Happiness" shared by Mrs.Karla
Jane Gonzales on her Thought for the Day. The moral of the story, as added by
Mrs. Gonzales, was to see the beauty all around you and to reflect on life and
the positive. Everyone may teach, but only teachers can do it better and with
compassion, said Mrs. Celina Ostan in her cordial welcome words. The
speakers that will provide more insight about code of ethics were introduced
by Ms. Vanessa Gler Marzo. Mr. Noel T.Binag a kindergarten consultant
discussed the Article I-VI of Code of Ethics. To gauge teachers' prior
knowledge of the code of ethics, specifically articles I–VI, Mr. Binag

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

administered a scenario pre-test. He stressed the significance of the code of
ethics' PREAMBLE. Teachers are duly licensed professionals who possesses
dignity and reputation with high moral values as well as technical and
professional competence in the practice of their noble profession, they strictly
adhere to, observe, and practice this set of ethical and moral principles,
standards, and values. Then, he pointed out that teachers have great influence
in the lives of their learners. They are expected to be professionally competent
in the practice of their profession. Moreover, they need also to possess good
reputation not only in the school but in the entire community. Having this big
responsibility in the learning environment, teachers must be guided by this
document which comprehensively discuss the different expectations from a
teacher.

The second speaker, Dr. Gemma Samonte, a kindergarten consultant,
explains the details of Articles VII through XIII. The articles say we have a duty
to interact favorably with parents, members of the community, and other school
stakeholders, as required by the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers.
Regular, professional, and conflict-free communication with parents is required.
We must bring up any concerns we have in meetings and conference with
parents, community members, or stakeholders. As a teacher, we must
understand that providing education is a public duty and work to inform the
public about the initiatives, projects, and activities.

The discussion went well, and the speakers left with a fresh perspective on
what we should be doing as educators. Although certain questions were raised,
they were appropriately answered. Thus, the appreciation award was given to
the speakers by Mrs.Celina Ostan, assistant grade leader of kindergarten. The
presentation was then concluded by Mr. Hermie Ildefonso Jr. with the quote,
"Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have the right to do and
what is right to do." In addition, Mrs. Celina Ostan led the closing prayer to end
the day. Indeed, Ms. Xyandralia N. Tabilin, the master of ceremonies, has
successfully managed the program.

NARRATIVE REPORT

Ethics or simple honesty is the building blocks upon which our whole society is
based, and business is a part of our society, and it's integral to the practice of being
able to conduct business, that you have a set of honest standards.

- Kerry Stokes

Grade One teachers at Rizal Elementary School held a meeting at the AVR
and reiterated the principles which are already known and adhered to within the
Group, the Code of Ethics expands and strengthens them. Whether online or in
the classroom, teachers help students learn the course material. But besides
going over subjects like Math or Science or Reading, educators also help
students by teaching them valuable life lessons by setting a positive example.
As role models for students, teachers must follow a professional Code of ethics.

This code ensures that students receive a fair, honest, and uncompromising
education. Teachers must model strong character traits, including perseverance,
honesty, respect, lawfulness, fairness, patience, and unity. As an educator,
teachers must treat every student with kindness and respect without showing
any favoritism, prejudice, or partiality. Teachers must maintain confidentiality
unless a scenario warrants involvement from parents, school administration, or
law enforcement, and never use relationships with students for personal gain.
Educators must commit wholly to the teaching profession itself. A classroom
should promote safety, security, and acceptance, and should always avoid
bullying, hostility, neglect, dishonesty, or offensive conduct. Teachers must
accurately describe their qualifications, licenses, and credentials to education
boards or administration offices that look to hire them.

On top of fostering healthy relationships with students, educators must build
strong relationships with school`s staff, parents, guidance counselors,
coworkers, and administrators. Teachers must keep from discussing private
information about colleagues and students unless disclosure is required under
the law. Teachers should always avoid gossip of any kind, including false
comments about coworkers or students. Part of the code of ethics requires

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

teachers to cooperate with fellow teachers, parents, and administrators to create
an atmosphere that fosters learning and growth. Educators might be called upon
to train student teachers who wish to serve as educators, so having the right
mindset and attitude can make a positive difference.

An educator’s code of conduct demands attentiveness to continuing
education requirements and career development. Teachers must spend time
researching new teaching methods, attend classes to maintain their
certifications, consult colleagues for professional advice, stay informed on
technical advancements for the classroom, and participate in curriculum
improvements. A teacher must ensure that their teaching methods are relevant
and comprehensive for all students. Teachers must engage in educational
research to continuously improve their strategies in the classroom.

Ultimately, the way you respond to what you believe is right and wrong
provides insight into your code of ethics. And that’s why a personal code of
ethics is not a stringent, formulated code. You can approximate and set
guidelines for yourself based on what you think is right and depend on these
guidelines to solve dilemmas and complex educational situations. Individual
codes of ethics are not formal codes laid out by organizations and institutions to
be obligatorily adhered to by their members. They are intangible moral
guidelines that individuals appropriate on their own.

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

The Grade One teachers were gathered during the LAC Session as
shown below to listen and to refresh everything about the Code of Ethics for
Professional Teachers specifically to new teachers to be always reminded of the
proper behavior to people in the learning community as an obligatory act of duty

A simple backdrop presents what the LAC Session is all about for the Grade One
teachers.

A thought for the day refreshes your mind with uplifting thoughts. We
need a daily input of new ideas, wisdom, and experience to help each day turn
out well. Thinking good thoughts puts the groundwork in to take positive steps
forward in our lives.

“Being willing to compromise or acquiesce in matters of taste or opinion.
Choosing to go along to get along in areas that aren’t really that important.”,
a wonderful thought share by Mrs. Liza M. Fundales that really inspires
everyone.

Mrs. Marryvil G. Ancheta as she gave her opening remarks. She pointed
out the importance of revisiting the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers.
She emphasized that as part of teacher’s vocation, we should exhibit proper
behavior to the learning community at all times. These are guiding principles to
help us act with integrity and honesty, she added.

Everybody listens as Mrs. Ancheta tells the significance of Code
of ethics in the teaching profession.

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

Our motherly and visionary RES Principal, Mrs. Corazon N. Caculitan
delivered her message clearly as she gave examples to untoward situations that
may happen to a teacher. To prevent these things to happen, “Love has to be
put into action”, according to her.

Ma`am Cora never gets tired of constantly reminding us to be always
mindful of the things we say and do as teachers specifically while we are
on duty or within the school premises. As she quotes the four (4)
words/pillars in life - Education – Values – Effort – Discipline as factors
into having a successful career.

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

One of the Grade One consultants in grade one, Mrs. Marryvil G.
Ancheta discussed the first part of the Code of Ethics which includes the
Rationale, Preamble and Articles I – V. Before she went through her topic, she
motivated the participants by presenting 4 pics 1 word relative to the Code of
Ethics for Professional Teachers.

Mrs. Ancheta as she presents first the game 4 pics 1 word to catch the
attention of the participants. They guess the correct word based on the pictures
presented.

Marryvil G. Ancheta tackled the first part of the session about the
Preamble of the Code of Ethics and the Articles I – V. Teachers are licensed
professional who are required to possess dignity and reputation with high moral
values abided by these Code of Ethics. Hence, these sets of ethical and moral
values are to be observed and put to practice.

Mrs. Marryvil G. Ancheta explains each article. She also reiterates that
teaching is the noblest profession. Without teachers, there would be no other
professions. She emphasizes that teachers should be role models in all aspects.
Before she ends her topic, she mentions the five (5) significant words to summarize
the Code of Ethics which are Integrity, Teamwork, Objectivity, Confidentiality,
and Growth.
RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

A professional Code of Ethics outlines teacher’s primary responsibilities to
their students and defines their role in a student’s life. Educators must
demonstrate impartiality, integrity, and ethical behavior in the classroom,
whether virtual or in person and in their conduct with parents and co-workers.
The Grade One teachers together with our futuristic Principal Ma’am Corazon
N. Caculitan and our two kindhearted Master Consultants Ma’am Marryvil G.
Ancheta and Ma’am Marilyn R. Castro facilitated to us about the importance of
“Code of Ethics For Professional Teachers”.

One of the Grade One Master Consultants, Dr. Marilyn R. Castro
elucidates and refreshes our minds about the Code of Ethics for Professional
Teachers from Article VI to Article XII.

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

Dr. Marilyn R. Castro gave examples of some situations from Article
VI to Article XII. The situations she presented were also the stories of teachers.
In this article, she pointed out that every teacher shall make his/her duties to
support the legitimate policies of the school and the administration regardless
of personal feeling or private opinion and shall faithfully carry them out.

Ma’am Marilyn R. Castro gives her best humor and speaks out catchy
words to have our attention and focus on her topic. Hence, her discussion is
lively and interactive.

A professional meeting/seminar wouldn’t be successful without an open
forum.
In this activity teachers may ask questions, discuss issues and exchange ideas to
clarify everything about the topic. Ma’am Jhoan F. Libut with her best charm

NARRATIVE

Code of Ethics for teachers is very necessary because this code
of ethics for teachers is designed to protect the rights of the students, all
the students. It is important that teachers understand that when they get
a teaching position, they are agreeing to follow the code of ethics.
Teachers must model strong character traits, including perseverance,
honesty, respect lawfulness, fairness, patience, and unity. Educators
must demonstrate impartiality, integrity, and ethical behaviours in the
classroom whether virtual or in-person and in their conduct with parents
and co-workers.

July 14,2022 at exactly 1:15 PM at Rizal Elementary School AVR,
we had our comprehensive review of Code of Ethics for Professional
Teachers. Our emcee was Mrs. Evangeline T. Siriegan. The program
was started with a Nationalistic song conducted by Mrs. Romina P.
Gayak followed by a prayer led by Mrs. Josephine G. Untalan. After that
we had the checking of attendance by Mrs. Emely F. Lumelay. Out of
24, three teachers were not present in our LAC session. To energise us,
Ms. Roanna Fatima Malapo led us with the dance craze Zoom in, Zoom
out. We enjoyed that energizer so much. For the thought for the Day,
one of grade two teachers, Mrs. Mae Borromeo delivered the message
about “Looking in the Mirror”. This reminded us of how we must think
and act as a professional educator that will leave a positive example to
our children. As this quote says, “If what you do TODAY will define your
TOMORROW. She also emphasises that life is too short. We should live
our lives to the fullest, enjoy ourselves while we are still young. We
should do our best being a teacher, do our responsibility as a teacher
and as a person. She also said that we are the one who creates our
happiness and success. Even though life is full of challenges, we should
be strong and hopeful. Ms. Jean Marie Virgilia Arce gave her warmest
welcome remarks through a song “The Greatest Love of All”. Her
message was about the love for our children which motivates us to teach
them with all the best that we could give them. She also gave a simple
introduction about the reorientation of the Code of Ethics.

Our emcee introduced our first speaker, none-other than, the
Master Consultant of Grade Two, Mrs. Maribel M. Escalo. She tackled
article 1 to article VI of the Code of Ethics. She explained first the
meaning of the Preamble stated that: Teachers are duly licensed
professional who possess dignity and reputation with high moral values
as well as technical and professional competence of the practice of the
noble profession, and they strictly adhere to observe and practice this

RIZAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Campaign on Project W.A.T.C.H.

set of ethical and moral principles, standards, and values. From article I
to article VI, she explained it by section.

To summarize, code of ethics is a set of principles and rules used
by individuals and organization that teachers must possess and as well
it distinguishes right from wrong.

Our second speaker is a kind and humble Grade Two Consultant,
Mrs. Mary Jane H. Anonical. She continued the discussion of the topic.
She explained the content of articles VII to XIII. The schools’ officials,
teachers, and other personnel: in this article school officials must show
respect to one another. Must show professional courtesy with each other
in order to avoid conflict with every co-worker. She showed us some viral
news about what was happening in some schools in the provinces like
the case in Negros Occidental concerning the principal and their teacher
for not allowing them to report because of refusing to undergo vaccine.
Another case was the principal who shot the husband and the wife
before he killed himself. She clearly expounded the different articles and
sections of Code of Ethics. That School officials, teachers and other
personnel shall consider their cooperative responsibility to formulate
policies or introduce important changes in the system at all levels. It
means that whatever changes in our school, the teachers must be ready
for it. Embrace and accept it because it is part of our work. She also
explained SBM, the School based management which is a strategy to
improve education by transferring significant decision-making authority
from state and district offices to individual schools. SBM provides
principals, teachers, students, and parents greater control over the
education process by giving them responsibility for decisions about the
budget. She also encouraged us to attend seminars for professional
growth of all teachers which helps for promotion, recognition for
meritorious performance. The speaker also emphasises the different
grounds for disciplinary action to the teachers or personnel if someone
filed like; dishonesty, oppression, neglect of duty, Misconduct,
Disgraceful and immoral conduct and being notoriously undesirable.
There are so many grounds stated in different articles and in every
section like habitual drunkenness, gambling prohibited by law, refusal to
perform duty or render overtime. The speaker ends her topic by showing
a video about “how teachers change lives of every individual.

Of course, the LAC meeting was incomplete without the message
of our superior, Mrs Corazon N. Caculitan. She clarified the video about
the value of teachers in our society. She also mentioned the pillars which
give unbelievable life. They are education, belief or values, effort or

action and discipline and know your boundaries and limitations as a
person. In addition to her message, she mentioned some other cases
filed to school personnel that’s why she reminded us to keep our integrity
and behave socially acceptable and respectful to one another. She also
pointed out the role of a teacher about the “no gift policy” which is also
mentioned in the code of ethics.
