‘Udana’ was conducted as a joint project
with the Rotaract Club of Moratuwa.
Through this project, we donated items
such as undergarments, sanitary items and
other clothing to the teenage mothers of
‘Ma Sevana Home for Teenage Mothers’ in
Moratuwa. Ma Sevana is home to teenage
mothers, who are victims of sexual abuse
and have become pregnant as a result of
rape or incest. The project took place on
7th of March, 2022.
Through ‘Udana’, we are able to assist in the
mental and physical development of the
teenage mothers and to help the home in
providing the requirements of the teenage
mothers, especially in this time of rising
inflation and financial difficulty.

Project Sayuru Pawura came into action with
the collaboration of Rotaract Clubs of
University of Colombo and was conducted in
two main phases. The first phase was Project
'Dive against debris', which was initiated to
guide young ocean enthusiasts about the
importance of ocean conservation by
promoting active participation in marine
conservation efforts. The phase consisted of
a beach clean up and a snokeling session.
The second phase: Riviera was a riverbank
cleanup project conducted at Bopath Ella
Falls, which is a popular destination among
local and foreign tourists and is well known
for having visitors on a daily basis. But it was
identified that the surroundings of the falls
are heavily polluted due to improper disposal
of debris by visitors. Both projects focused on
creating a cleaner environment, spreading
awareness and preserving the beauty of
nature.

THE BLOG
Blog Overview
Coming off a strong performance from the previous Rotaract Year, the
Editorial knew moving into the new year called for some top-level functional
changes. This was due to the novel vision and goals that this year’s Co-
Editors sought for the Editorial. As such, the Editorial envisioned pushing
the boundaries and elevating itself to heights that it hasn’t reached before.
However, to achieve said goals, it was of utmost importance to create a
system and environment that supported such endeavors hence the
changes.
Focus
Thus, moving into the new year, we set out to make some adjustments to the
focus of the Editorial. In this regard, we coined 4 main pillars that we would
build and develop the Editorial around:
Empowering our writers by giving them both the opportunity and the
freedom to write about what they are passionate about to best express
themselves and their interests,
Incorporating diversity and variety into our publications whilst
simultaneously increasing the number of publications,
Creating internal roadmaps to ensure that all our publications are
published in a sequential, orderly, and timely manner,
Investing time and resources into our website to make it the primary face
of our club’s social presence.
Approach to our writers & member count
When considering the member count, the Editorial saw massive growth in
terms of membership this year. From a relatively small committee during the
last Rotaract year, we recruited over 15 new passionate writers who showed
interest in contributing to the Editorial which ultimately pushed our writer
count to 25. In addition to our writing team, we continued to keep the
Editorial open to all those within the club that wanted to access and engage
with the platform.
Our website, its development & transformation
Our website, which is the platform that houses all the works of the Editorial,
saw tremendous change during the course of the Rotaract year. We realized
that our website was in many ways our main PR and social presence. Thus, it
became imperative to focus on improving the website’s look to make it more
inviting but also its functionality in order to generate more website traffic.
We soon adopted a modern design for our website, one that was not only
elegant to the eye but was also simple to navigate.
We spent a lot of time optimizing the website as we strived to create one
that was both accessible and responsive, such as adding a smooth mobile
experience and adding quick navigation methods to access desired content
faster. We treated the website with a lot of care and thought, as it was the
main face of our club to the world that existed outside the walls of our
University. Therefore, the development & transformation of our website was
in many ways a step toward creating a platform to provide both updates
about our club and house all the works of our talented writers.
Content variation
Considering the content the club publishes, this year’s Editorial was
determined to take it a step further when compared to the works published
by the talented writers in years prior by exploring new and different
categories. As mentioned earlier, incorporating variety into our publications
was a major focus for the Editorial this time around. We were highly
successful in this endeavor as we branched out to genres concerning
creative works such as poems and short stories while also publishing new
forms of technical articles such as interviews, month-in-reviews, and reports.
All these varied types of publications helped keep things fresh as each
publication brought with it a different flavor and purpose to our ever-
expanding library of articles.
Projects
Keeping the hugely successful projects that the Editorial spearheaded
during the last Rotaract year in mind, its massive contribution to our club’s
projects was a trend that we wanted to continue this time around as well.
The Editorial thus engaged in three major projects during the course of this
Rotaract year: namely ‘Enigma’, ‘Forspoken’ and ‘The SDG Roundtable’.
Enigma, registered under Club Service, focused on improving the research
and writing skills of the participants. Registered yet under Club Service was
Forspoken; a project that sought to shed light on famous historical
landmarks and the histories tethered to them. Finally, ‘The SDG Roundtable’
was an attempt to educate the public about the ongoing Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) and was registered under Community Service.
Current status
Over the course of this Rotaract year, the Editorial has produced 113
publications as of the 16th of June, 2022 (with a projected year-end statistic
of 130 publications by the 30th of June); marking this Rotaract year as the
most successful the Editorial has ever been in our 12 years of history.
The following is a break down of the Editorial's projected year-end
performance (estimated for June 30th).
