EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In George Town, the environment is integral to its identity, intricately entwined with its rich history and culture. Acknowledging the need for responsible environmental management, our study delves into various aspects of environmental concerns in heritage streets. The research covers socio-economic development, tourism development, solid waste management, transport system studies, and noise and vibration studies. Recognising the necessity for responsible environmental stewardship, a comprehensive questionnaire survey was undertaken to explore diverse aspects of environmental concerns in the heritage streets of George Town. This survey covered socio-economic development, tourism impacts, solid waste management practices, public health issues, and noise pollution. Tailored questionnaires were administered to both local residents and tourists, seeking valuable insights into factors like transportation mobility, ecourban considerations, over-tourism repercussions, and the promotion of responsible tourism. The primary aim is to discern the intricate linkages between over-tourism and environmental issues within the heritage streets of George Town. A transport system study specifically focuses on evaluating healthy streets based on various metrics, including motorised vehicle volume, cyclists' lane availability, pedestrian safety, and technological interventions for optimised traffic flow. Another study examines noise and vibration levels at Gurney Drive, while Visual Impact Assessment (VIA) analyses potential visual impacts on the environment and landscape views. Field assessments adhere to rubric standards, evaluating natural settings, biodiversity, restoration efforts, human interference, development density, architectural identity, cleanliness, and more. The observation locations encompass 7 Clan Jetties, Padang Kota Lama, and Bukit Bendera. Our overarching goals include identifying the extent of tourism development on George Town's cultural heritage and urban environment, assessing the current state, and recommending interventions to preserve the city's heritage and environment. prefaceWelcome to the Fieldwork Report and Organization Management 2023/2024, a meticulously curated guide for the Bachelor of Environmental Management students undertaking the EMG4804 course. This batch embarked on environmental fieldwork in George Town, Penang, from November 2 to November 5, 2023 and conducted the 'ServiceLearning Malaysia University for Society' program at Taman Pantai Sepang Putra on December 2, 2023. This report serves as a comprehensive testament to the organizational principles, practices, and process management cultivated within the dynamic context of the EMG4804. Beyond providing guidance for planning and executing environmental fieldwork, this report lays a robust foundation for the forecasting, planning, and decision-making of prospective students undertaking EMG4804. At the core of this initiative is BEMX, an organization structured by Bachelor of Environmental Management candidates dedicated to setting new standards in environmental management fieldwork planning and execution. This fieldwork symbolises our commitment to developing practical skills through real-world problem-solving, community collaboration, and hands-on experiences. EMG4804, designed for environmental management undergraduates, bridges theory and practice by involving students in real projects and meaningful community engagements, translating theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. preface This report serves a dual role—offering crucial guidance for environmental fieldwork and presenting valuable insights into the organizational dynamics essential for its success. Apart from the Top Organization, Heads of Bureaus, and Project Managers, each member of BEMX contributes significantly to guaranteeing the efficiency and effectiveness of the fieldwork process. The supervision for this fieldwork has been graciously provided by Dr. Aisyah Abu Bakar and Dr. Nik Ab Rahim, supplemented by additional support and guidance from the esteemed faculty members and staff of the Department of Environment, Faculty of Forestry and Environment at Universiti Putra Malaysia. To all lecturers and contributors, we sincerely thank you for your unwavering support, valuable advice, and encouraging words throughout the fieldwork activities. BEMX envisions more than just an organization; it aspires to catalyse change in environmental management practices. Our collective hope is that the collaborative efforts invested in this fieldwork will yield valuable insights for all stakeholders involved and contribute significantly to advancing the principles and practices of environmental management. 1 PREFACE UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA BEMX TNI EMG4804 EGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN ING F EI LDWORK E M G 4 8 0 4 BEMX

The project network in project management is an important organizational tool that plays a decisive role in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of complex initiatives. It provides a visual representation of project tasks, their dependencies, and the sequence of activities, enabling efficient time planning and resource allocation. By showing the sequence and relationships between tasks, the project network improves coordination, minimises delays, and optimises the workflow. In the context of our fieldwork organization, the project network serves as the backbone of our strategic approach and ensures a synchronised and collaborative approach between different teams and tasks. It is a dynamic framework that not only sets the direction of our project but also fosters effective communication that allows us to navigate the intricacies of our fieldwork initiatives with precision and success. 8 CHIEF LEADER NETWORK INFORMATION UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA BEMX TNI EMG4804 EGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN ING F EI LDWORK E M G 4 8 0 4 BEMX FIELDWORK ORGANIZATION ID CODE ACTIVITY NAME DURATION (week) PREDECESSOR 1 TP1 Development of Fieldwork Instrument and Materials 1 A TP1A BEMX Discussion 0 - B TP1B Monitor the progress of developing fieldwork instrument & materials 1 A 2 TP2 Validation of Fieldwork Instrument and Materials 1 C TP2C Monitor the Progress of Correction & Finalization the Instrument & Materials 1 B 3 TP3 Feasibility Study and Monitoring Development of Funtional & Project Tracker 1 D TP3D Monitor the Feasibility Study and Identify Challenges 1 C 4 TP4 Fieldwork Implementation and Execution 1 E TP4E Fieldwork Implementation & Data Collection & Online Data Entry 1 D 5 TP5 Data Cleaning, Sorting, Analyzing and Reporting 2 F TP5F Monitoring the Data Cleaning, Sorting & Analysis and Data Interpretation 1 E G TP5G Preparing Presentation of Fieldwork Preparation, Execution & Findings 1 F 6 TP6 Report Writing and Exhibition Preparation 4 H TP6H Report Writing, Exhibition Plan and Consultation 2 G I TP6I Finalize and Format of Report and Exhibition Work 1 H J TP6J Handover of Final Draft to Publicity Team 1 I 7 TP7 Report Submission, Exhibition and Retrospectives 4 K TP7K Improve Report and Commence Exhibition Work, Submission of Report 2 J L TP7L Execute Exhibition 1 K M TP7M Team Evaluation and Retrospectives 1 L
