Karunagapally

Karunagappally used to be an agrarian economy until the late 19th century
with coconut ,banana, tapioca ,and paddy as the main crops grown. With
Rapid urbanization and the consequent pressure on land, the Reliance on
agriculture has dwindled.
There was a Buddha bhikshu named karinagan who lived in Karunagappally
.He later became known as pallikkal puthran( on the banks of pallikkal river)
hence the name Karunagappally lots of traces of ancient Buddhist culture
where excavated from various places in and around Karunagappally.
The history of the district's administration can be traced back To 1835,
when the Travancore state consisted of two revenue divisions with
headquarters at Kollam and Kottayam. When Travancore and Cochin were
combined into Travancore to cochin, Kollam was one of the three revenue
divisions

Thiruvananthapuram – My Birthplace

My Birth place is Thiruvananthapuram and I am so proud of my Birth place
because of so many historical and academic importance in my birth place. Now , I
depicts the importance of my birth place ie, Thiruvananthapuram .

The Padmanabhaswamy temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram is the
most important Tourist centre The name of the city of Thiruvananthapuram in Malayalam
translates to "The City of Lord Ananta", referring to the deity of the Padmanabhaswamy
temple. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the Chera style and the Dravidian style of
architecture, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century gopura.[While the Ananthapura
temple in Kumbla is considered the original seat of the deity ("Moolasthanam"), architecturally
to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple in Thiruvattar.

Several extant Hindu Texts like the Brahma Purana, Matsya Purana, Varaha Purana, Skanda
Purana, Padma Purana, Vayu Purana, Bhagavata Purana and the Mahabharata mention this
shrine. The Temple has been referred to in the (only recorded) Sangam period
of literature between 500 BCE and 300 CE several times. Many conventional historians and
scholars are of the opinion that one of the names that the Temple had, "The Golden Temple",
literally was in cognizance of the fact that the Temple was already unimaginably wealthy by
that point.

Thiruvananthapuram formerly known as Trivandrum is the capital the state of Kerala It
is the largest city in Kerala with a population of 957,730 and an area of 214 sq.km .
]The encompassing population is around 1.68 million.[4] Located on the west coast of
India near the extreme south of the mainland, Thiruvananthapuram is a
major information hub in Kerala and contributes 55% of the state's software exports
as of 2016.

The present regions that constitute Thiruvananthapuram were ruled by the Chera
dynasty.in the 12th Century, It was taken over by the Kingdom of Venad. In the 17th
century the king Marthanda Varma expanded the territory and founded the princely
state of Travancore and made Thiruvananthapuram its capital.[Following India's
independence in 1947, Thiruvananthapuram became the capital of Travancore-
Cochin state and remained so till the new Indian state of Kerala was formed in 1956.

Thiruvananthapuram is a notable academic and research hub and home to the
University of Kerala, Kerala Technological University, the regional headquarters
of Indira Gandhi National Open University, and many other schools and colleges.
Thiruvananthapuram is also home to research centers such as the National Institute
for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Indian Space Research
Organisation's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, the Indian Institute of Space Science
and Technology, National Centre for Earth Science Studies and a campus of
the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research.[15] The city is home to media
institutions like Toonz India Ltd and Tata Elxsi Ltd, and is also home to Chitranjali Film
Studio, one of the first film studios in Malayalam Cinema, and Kinfra Film and Video
Park at Kazhakoottom, which is India's first Infotainment industrial park.

Being India's largest city in the deep south, it is strategically prominent and hosts
the Southern Air Command headquarters of the Indian Air Force, the Thumba

Equatorial Rocket Launching Station and the upcoming Vizhinjam International
Seaport. Thiruvananthapuram is a major tourist centre, known for
Padmanabhaswamy Temple , the beaches of Kovalam and Varkala, the backwaters
of Poovar and Anchuthengu and its Western Ghats tracts of Ponmudi and the
Agasthyamala .

The principal deity Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu) is enshrined in the "Anantha Shayana"
posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent Adi Shesha.[5] Padmanabhaswamy is the
deity of the royal family of Travancore.

In the above context, I am fully proud about my birthplace.

Local history of Karamana

Karamana is a suburb of Trivandrum city of Kerala,India. It is one of the
most densely populated , but green part of Thiruvananthapuram. The land of the
most densely populated Karamana is made fertile by the river,Karamana river
which starts from the Southern tip of Western Ghat at “Agasthyakoodam".The

The Juma Masjid in Karamana is a famous landmark . Karamana is also
known for its “Daily Market”,and is a major transit point for both trade people
travelling to or coming in from the Kanyakumari district.

Potomology

According to myths, ‘Karamana’ the place name came from a famous
Namboothiri family, who lived on the bank of the river . The life of the people at
that time was sticking around the Brahmin family. So, simply referring as the
‘mana’ meaning house on ‘Kara’ meaning bank, became Karamana in the flow of
time. The family has gone before for years, but the name exists now.

Civil Society and Administration

Karamana is situated inside the city limits of Thiruvananthapuram
Corporation(TC).It is the 20 th ward of TC and is represented by a councillor in
the Thiruvananthapuram corporation council. Like most parts of Trivandrum,
Karamana too has a substantial non-malayalam speaking population, which
contributes immensely to the rich and vibrant cultural scene in Trivandrum .It has
one of the oldest Tamil Brahmin settlements of Thiruvananthapuram And the old
‘Theruvu’ style of wall sharing townhouses ,gives one a peek into the Brahmin
life-style of yore, It maintains a large community of various religions and

caste.Karamana is a model for secularism and religious /cultural tolerance.
National Highway 47 ,the main travel and trade corridor of Kerala , passes
through Karamana onward to the central business districts of Trivavdrum.

Thrikkannapuram ,MangattuKadavu,Kundaman kadavu,Aryanad bridge,
