SUPPLEMENTARY READING PROGRAMME Grades III
LEVELLED READING PROGRAM Grades I - III ‘A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.’ Engaging in reading books has the potential to expand the learners' perspectives by introducing them to novel ideas and diverse cultures, enabling them to develop a more global outlook on the world. Moreover, it nurtures critical thinking abilities, as readers must interpret and analyze the content they encounter. The advantages of reading extend beyond these aspects, as it can also reduce stress, enhance focus, and stimulate creativity. Additionally, reading fosters empathy as individuals immerse themselves in the emotions and motivations of different characters, gaining a deeper understanding of their experiences. We strongly emphasize instilling the habit of reading in our enthusiastic learners. To achieve this objective, we have successfully been running the Levelled Reading Programme, which opens the doors to a vast array of books for learners. The primary goal of this programme is to encourage critical thinking by providing learners with opportunities to explore books of different genres. The learners are encouraged to independently choose a book of their liking from the diverse selection of books available in their classroom. To further enrich their reading experience, book reviews, mentor talks, and class discussions are organized on a regular basis. The programme has been successful in fostering a love for reading and enhancing confidence in learners.
“Safety, in its widest sense, concerns the happiness, contentment and freedom of mankind.” It is a well-known truth that every child is born with the inherent potential to grow, develop, love, and express their needs and emotions for self-protection. As an educational institution, our responsibility extends beyond just imparting knowledge and academic skills. Our mission is to create an environment that nurtures the holistic development of learners, empowering them to become confident, self-aware, and fearless individuals. Therefore, we strive to empower our learners with the essential knowledge and skills to navigate their surroundings confidently. To achieve this goal, we conduct comprehensive sessions for Primary Grades, engaging learners in fun and educational activities to enhance their vigilance and awareness. In Grade Prep, interactive discussions on age-appropriate topics helped them understand their emotions, communicate their preferences, and prioritize personal safety. Through illustrations and activities promoting emotional well-being and assertiveness, the learners took a pledge for safety and hygiene. In Grade I, we focused on teaching learners about hygiene and the importance of keeping themselves and their surroundings clean. They were encouraged to express their emotions through short sentences in their reflection booklet, sharing with people in their safety circle. In Grade II, a stimulating activity called 'With Love from Lunch' involved making and sharing the recipe of a healthy and simple meal, helping learners grasp the significance of healthy eating and nutritional facts. Appreciating our unique culture, Grade II learners artistically created a Bio Poetry based on their families and dreams. In Grade III, learners were introduced to diverse topics relevant to themselves and the environment, such as the importance of homework, seasonal changes in nature, and the significance of making good life choices. These discussions were made engaging through enactments, games like 'Spot the Difference,' and creating 'My Nature's Journal.’ The outcomes of these sessions were fruitful, as they not only fostered a safe and open environment for selfexpression but also guided the learners in channeling their energy and emotions appropriately. “ A nation’s culture resides in the heart and soul of its people.” M K Gandhi Celebrating heritage is one of the ways to define human identity and trace our roots. The Lotus Valley International School takes pride in the rich heritage of this great nation that binds us together timelessly. We build multiple opportunities to familiarise our learners with the many facets of our rich and vibrant heritage through a multitude of activities. The school has been organising a multitude of events to open the portals of enigmatical and spiritual art forms to our learners which leads to understanding of the highest being through Gyaan (Knowledge), Gaan ( Music and dance) and Dhyaana(Focus) and Adhyana(Practice). Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram, in collaboration with Spic Macay hosted the ‘Celebration of Heritage’ with an exclusive Hindustani Classical Vocal presentation by The Maestros Duo Shri Ritesh Mishra and Shri Rajnish Mishra, the sixth generation of the family of great musicians who have performed at most prestigious concerts all over the world, such as, BBC Royal Albert Hall, London, Lincoln Centre, New York, closing ceremony of Commonwealth Games, 2002 in Manchester, UK. They have sung the 3rd track ‘Mahadeva’ in the album called ‘Rise’ that has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Grammy Awards.’ Top Grade vocalists of All India Radio and Television, they have been awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy's Ustad Bismillah Khan Award. An interesting interactive session with the artists helped learners to understand the Indian Classical Music more closely. The interaction between the artist and the young learners was instructive, informative and delightful. The importance of “Riyaz”, discipline and focus was stressed upon to achieve musical intelligence. The interaction also highlighted how the modern forms of music are merely extracts of classical music- "The Jannani" (Mother) of all melodies. The event culminated with our in-house talents; Srishti Gaur of Grade VIII Nile and Megha Anand of Grade XI Edison, who presented exquisite symphonies with remarkable vocal control and harmonium skills, touching the chords of everyone in the audience followed by the students proposing the vote of thanks on behalf of the Lotus Valley Family.
