Awareness
Day

Drug Abuse Awareness Day was observed on 26.06.19, at VOC Diamond Jubilee

Hall at llAM. Various competitions related to drug abuse awareness were conducted

for the Thoothukudi District Schools at V.O.Chidambaram College. 194

NSS Volunteers of V.O.Chidambaram College visited the Old Age Home in
Masilamanipuram, Anna Nagar and Boldenpuram On 17.08. 2020. The college donated lunch to

100 immates of the home.

The NSS volu nteers have extended their helping ba nd to the Gover nment
during the Pandemic situation by doing service in public Distributution Shop for
three days from 07.01.2()21 to 08.01.2021 to help distributing the Pongal Gifts of
the Government to the public. They did various services like streamlining the
crowd, instructing them to keep the social distance, wearing the mask and offering
the sanitizers at the Public Distributing shops in Katbirvel Nagar, Meelavittan, P&T
Colony, Subbiah Mutbaliar Puram, Boldenpuram and Cbidambaranagar in
Tbootbukudi.

Young Indians [YI Thoothukudi Chapter] with Meenakshi Mission Hospital at
V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi for PG students at the Auditorium on 19.06.2019 at
10.30 a.m.

Dr.Srinivasan Ramachandran, DNB [Gen Surgeon], MRCS, Consultant,
Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai delivered an input session on ''Organ donation''. The PG
students were briefed on organ donation depending on the kind of death, and on the
procedures involved in organ donation and transplantation.

A Career Development
Programme was organised by the Department of
Business Administration, on 11.07.2019 Dr. C.
Veerabahu, Principal, V.O. Chidambaram College
presided over the programme. Thiru. C.
Madukumar and Mrs.Petchiammal, District
Employment Officers were the special invites.
They gave a special lecture on various job
opportunities in the Government and Private
Sectors. They clarified the doubts raised by the
UG students of the Business Administration
department.

International Justice Day

International Justice Day was celebrated by the Department of Business
Administration at V.O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi on 19.07. 2019.
Shri D. Thompson, Advocate and Notary Public, an Alumnus of our
college was the special invitee of the day. Dr. C. Veerabahu, Principal,
V.O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi delivered his Presidential address.
Shri.D. Thompson in his special lecture shared his valuable thoughts
and legal experiences on gender discrimination and on quasi parental
authority.

Road Safety Awareness Week

Road Safety Awareness week was celebrated in V.O. Chidambaram College,
Thoothukudi from July 22nd to July 28th 2019.The Principal, Dr. C. Veerabahu

initiated a plethora of activities to be conducted to create an awareness on
road safety among the students.

The college youth welfare department took initiative in this regard and
organised a series of programmes throughout the Road Safety Awareness week

in different points of the campus to highlight the issues of road safety.

A pledge was undertaken on 22/7/20 19 to adhere to the
safety rules and be an ideal rider in commuting. On 23/7/2019 a participatory
exercise was conducted. A Slogan writing contest was held in the campus on
24/7/20 19. It was an open -to - all contest. Enthusiastic students and faculty
members tried their hands in penning catchy slogans to drive home the message
of road safety. On 25/7/20 19, a street play on Road Safety performed and a
Safety Signature campaign was organised.

Mr.Prakash, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi
District was the Guest of Honour. He appreciated the efforts taken by the administration
of V.O. Chidambaram College in organising a programme of such magnitude
involving students for a whole week. He also advised the students to co - operate with
the law enforcing agencies in enabling an accident free Thoothukudi District.

The Principal, Dr. C.Veerabahu in his valedictory address
reinforced the institution 's commitment in supporting the Road Safety
Awareness campaigns in the future. The week long programme was meticulously
executed by Dr. V. Chanthiramathi, Dr. M. Sankar, Dr.S.Jackson and Prof. R.
Karthik, Coordinators of the Youth Welfare Department of V.O. Chidambaram
College, Thoothukudi.

Memorial Day Programme

The Department of Physics, V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi organized
a one day programme on the title ''Kalam and After'' on the 29th of July 2019 at
the Golden Jubilee Hall to commemorate the memorial day of Dr. A.P.J.Abdul
Kalam. Dr.C.Veerabahu, Principal, V.O.Chidambaram College presided over the
programme. The key note address was delivered by Dr. K. Amudhavalli,
Associate Professor of Physics, V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi.

World Tiger Day

World Nature Conservation Day along with the World Tiger Day
was celebrated at V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi on the 30th of July 2019 at the
college auditorium. On account of the celebration, an awareness program was organised in
the college by the PG and Research Department of Zoology and Botany. The program
was presided over by the principal, Dr.C.Veerabahu. The Chief guest of the occasion,
Mr.V.Thirunavukkarasu, Chief Conservator of Forests, Dindigul addressed the gathering
and stressed on the fact that the success of any developmental program implemented by
the government can be ensured only by the proper support and contribution of the public, in
particular the students.

World Ozone Day

V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi celebrated World Ozone Day on the
16th of August at 11:30 am at the Diamond Jubilee Hall. The programme was
presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr.C.Veerabahu. The Chief Guest
of the day, Dr.Gurusamy Annadurai, Professor and Co-Ordinator, Nano
Science Division, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University delivered a guest
lecture on the topic, ''Ozone Depletion: Causes and Challenges''. The event
was organized by the Department of Chemistry and the staff and the students of the
college attended the programme.

World Tie and Bow day

World Tie and Bow day was celebrated in V.O.Chidambaram College on the 28th
of August at the Diamond Jubilee Hall around 12:30 PM. In order to stress the
importance of the attire of an individual. The day was organized by the
Department of Commerce (Unaided). The Principal Dr.C.Veerabahu delivered the

Teachers Day 2019

National Teachers Day along with VOC Day was celebrated on the 5th of
September by the Department of English The Principal of the college,
Dr.C.Veerabahu presided over the function and delivered the Presidential
address. The Chief Guest, Dr.S.Alagesan, Former Syndicate Member and
Head, Department of Tamil, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University stressed on
the role of teach ers in moulding the students. The function ended with the
recital of the National anthem.

Electoral Verification Programme

The District Administratio n, Thoothuku di District in collabora tion with
V.O.Chidamba ra m College, Thoothukudi ar ra nged an Electoral Verification
programme on 16.09.2019. The programme was organised for carrying out
corrections in the Voter ID, exclusively for the staff members of the college.
Observance of Vigilance Awareness V.O. Chidambaram College collaborated with
NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited to observe Vigilance Awareness Week in its
campus from 28/10/2019 to 2/11/2019. The college has taken this noble
initiative to spread awareness on the corrupt practices in our system and
ensure that the future leaders stemming out from the campus stay corrupt
free. V.O. Chidambaram College is known for its stead fast commitment in
galvanising the political change at all levels of the society by transforming the
youth in to potent force of change. To begin with two hundred and six
Teaching and Non - teaching members and 3091 students undertook an oath
to lead their life sans corruption. The college Youth Welfare Department
organised various programmes among the students to promote competitive spirit
among them to carve out their creative voice against corruption through their
creative display.

Street play

V.O. Chidambaram College in its illustrious history has always
reached out to the society at large and ensured that its caressing wings of care stretched
out to the unreached. In tune with this doctrine, the college Skit Troupe staged a thought
provoking skit at the busy junctions of Old Bus Stand, New Bus Stand and the Muthu
Nagar Beach. A short film contest on 'Corruption-free India' was organised and the
judges of the scrutinising committee had a tough time in narrowing down the best short
films. The week long celebrations led its way to the valedictory function in the college
Auditorium.

Dr. C.Veerabahu, Principal, V.O.Chidambaram College, thanked
the management of the NTPL for their tie up with the college and assured that the
college would be at the forefront in its fight against corruption. Mr.K.S.
Gopalakrishnan, CEO, NTPL, Thoothukudi in his valedictory address briefed on the ill
effects of corruption in our nation. The Secretary, Shri. A.P.C.V. Chockalingam,
V.O.Chidambaram College, reminisced over the institution's vision in making an
egalitarian society. Prizes were distributed to the winners by the dignitaries of the
function. The week long programme made an indelible impression on the young minds of
the students.

Corona Relief Fund

V.O.Chidambaram College is ever known for extending a helping hand to the rebuilding
and rehabilitation endeavours of the Nation during any National Calamity. Following the
tradition, the Principal, Dr.C.Veerabahu has donated a cheque for Rupees Two Lakhs for
Covid Relief Fund (on April 20th) to the District Collector, Thoothukudi, Thiru. Sandeep

Live Musical Concert

Our college with a view to energize the
Thoothukudi folks out of the pandemic
boredom, took up a lively initiative in
organising a Live musical concert on
24.05.2020 at 6.30 p.m. The Live concert
was streamed Live through You Tube and
Facebook. A talented troupe comprising of
our famous alumni and Vijay TV Super
Singer Mr.Irwin Victoria along with other
musicians enthralled the viewers with
their scintillating performance.

Realizing that music is relatable and effective when conveyed through our native
tongue, the enterprising alumni of our college Mr. Irwin Victoria [singer], Prof.
Jackson [Lyricist], Mr. David William [Musician] and Prof. Karthick [Editor]

took up this splendid initiative of composing this inspiring COVID 19 -

released on the You Tube channel by our revered Principal, Dr.C.Veerabahu on

VIGILANCE AWARNESS PROGRAM

As per the circular from the University Grants Commission (UGC),
Our College Youth Welfare Department in association with Vigilance
Department,Thoothukudi organized a Vigilance Awareness Program as a part of
Vigilance Awareness Week with the theme “Independent India @75: Self Reliance
with Integrity”.

Dr.S.Jackson, Assistant Coordinator of Youth Welfare Department and
Assistant Professor of Mathematics gave the welcome address. Dr.C.Veerabahu
Principal presided over the function. Mr. Hector Dharmaraj, Deputy Supredient of
Police , Vigilance Department , Thoothukudi felicitated the gathering. He insisted
general public not to give bribes in the form of money or gift and also accept any
form of bribe. He explained to the audience, whom to approach in case they come
across or witness any corruption. The anti corruption pledge was facilitated by
Ms.Jayashri the Vigilance Inspector ,Thoothukudi. Our College Cultural Team
have come up with a street play with the theme “Independent India @75: Self
Reliance with Integrity”. Ms. Arthi Shree , I PG Botany explained about the types
of corruption and gave an overview of the effects of corruption. The overall
programme was coordinated by our Youth Welfare Department.

Science Exhibition

Members of Kulapathy Shri.A.P.C.Veerabahu Endowment for Science and Technology
organized a Science Exhibition on the 27th of February 2019 on the World Science Day.
Students demonstrated their talents in the exhibition and were awarded prizes.

Space Expo

V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi in collaboration with ISRO Propulsion Complex,
Mahendragiri hosted a three day Space Expo from 9th October 2019 to 11th October 2019.
The vision of our founder Kulapathy A.P.C. Veerabahu about the college to reach greater
heights and be a nodal centre for research and development blossomed into reality in the
form of the Space Expo. The ISRO fact finding team did meticulous research in all the colleges
in the vicinity of Thoothukudi.

Eventually they zeroed in on V.O. Chidambaram College,
for its Geographic location and its well furnished Infrastructure. It was indeed a
timely gesture from the ISRO to organize this event that coincided with World 's Space
Week celebrations. It was not an easy task to display the huge exhibits and live rocket
models in a single campus. The organizing committee headed by Dr.C.Veerabahu,
Principal, V.O. Chidambaram College and the coordinators of the technical committee
of ISRO did a brain storming session to sketch every minute details in its place.

The ISRO technical coordinators had a session with the
student volunteers who were briefed about the models. Around fifty exhibits were
displayed. Each Display was assigned by two volunteers who were trained to explain
about the models. The Inaugural session was flagged off in the historic Auditorium of the
college.

Celebrations

V.O.Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi in collaboration with the
Ministry of Broadcasting organized a “Three day photo Exhibit'‘ to
commemorate the Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary from 2nd
October 2019 to 4th October 2019.

Principle as its founder Kulapathy A.P.C. Veerabahu was keen on
propagating Gandhian ideology of self reliance and taking education
to the unreached. It was indeed befitting that the historic college
auditorium which has witnessed many great events commemorated the
150th anniversary of Babu with reverence. Mr.Kadambur Raja, Honorable
Minister of Information and Broadcasting unveiled the photo exhibit and
appreciated the efforts of the management of V.O.Chidambaram college for
its steadfast devotion to non - commercialiastion of higher education. Dr.
C. Veerabahu, Principal, V.O.Chidambaram College in his welcome
address reaffirmed the institution 's commitment in making India a
self-reliant nation. Thiru. A.P.C.V.Chockalingam, Secretary,
V.O.Chidambaram College elucidated the need of the educational
institutions being the harbinger of social justice by organizing events
to promote social harmony. Shri.Sandeep Nanduri, IAS, District
Collector, Thoothukudi in his felicitation address lauded the efforts of
the management of V.O.Chidambaram College in organizing a historic
programme in its campus and urged the students to emulate the life of
Mahatma Gandhi.

has the pride of being associated with the great leaders of the
Nation. It has the privilege of having the imprints of luminaries of
the Nation like Pandit Jawaharla Nehru, Thirumathi. Indra Gandhi
and Thiru Karunanidhi etc.
The year 2021 has a memorable visit which adds yet another feather
to the cap of ·the college. On 26.02.2021, Shri. Rahul Gandhi visited
our college entourage to his electoral campaign and paid his tributes
to the great patriot.
