PrologueFrom the bottom of our heart

Alhamdulillah, thanks to the Almighty, this book is finally completed and
published. This book is a compilation of projects undertaken by Cawangan
Kerja Kesihatan (CKK), JKR Malaysia from 2016-2019. The projects have
been successfully completed and delivered to our client, the Ministry of
Health (MoH), Malaysia.
Despite challenges and obstacles, CKK managed to publish this book with the
help of all. With good and effective management, as part of JKR Malaysia
Strategic Plan, we were able to deliver and fulfil the need of the nation
throughout the country whilst meeting the requisites of MoH.
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the whole team of CKK for this well
crafted and timely documentation. My heartiest appreciation to all who
successfully delivered the projects.

Project 01 Perak

hospital design 121 Women, Children & Cardiology Centre,
Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital

Women, Children and Cardiology Centre is a specialist
wing that is situated adjacent to the main complex of the
Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh, Perak. It is
specialised in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Paediatrics
Care as well as Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Care, for
Ipoh and the Perak State, as well as the northern region
in general.

The building features a compact and modern design. Its
curvy facade resembles a mother's womb; which
creates a gracious and slick design.

The design took into consideration the east-west
orientation and angles of the sun to minimise glare and
heat impact. The podium was designed to act as a buffer
zone and noise barrier. The design was also meant to
create scenic views from the best angle. The central
courtyard becomes a green pocket to achieve maximum
daylight, to create transparency to the interior, and for
natural cross ventilation. A good functional relationship
and circulation were also designed by making vertical
and horizontal elements as an inter-related zoning in the
10 storey high building thus making it more comfortable
and user friendly.

Project03 Selangor

hospital designObstetrics Complex, Tengku Ampuan
Rahimah Hospital, Klang

Obstetrics Complex Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital is
an additional facility for women and children. It is built
adjacent to the main complex of Tengku Ampuan
Rahimah Hospital, Klang, Selangor.

It was a challenge to design a 318 bedded obstetrics
medical complex within a small site at HTAR car park
fronting the main entrance of the hospital complex.
Hence, the solution was to design the complex vertically.
A 9 storey rectangular block with central open
courtyard was designed to maximise natural lighting
and cross ventilation to internal spaces, particularly for
the wards without air conditioning.

The building facade reflects a modern contemporary
architecture. It was designed to blend and harmonise
with the adjacent main HTAR Complex. The use of fins
and sun shadings interplay is suited to the tropical
climate whilst enhanced the comfort of occupants. The
interior design theme was carefully chosen to suit the
current trending.

Kelantan

Project 05 Kuala Krai Hospital, Kota Bharu

hospital design 4121 Hospital Kuala Krai is a new specialist hospital that was
constructed on 40 hectares of land in Pahi, Kuala Krai,
Kelantan, replacing the existing old hospital (built in
1917). It is located about 8 kilometres from the previous
hospital, and 70 kilometres from the state capital, Kota
Bharu. The facility was designated for 268 beds to be
fitted for a high density area in Kuala Krai district.

“Hospital in the garden” was a design concept that
blends well with nature as it nestles in the lush
surrounding greenery. The courtyards are landscaped
as a green healing area which also aims to aid public
orientation and act as points of reference to guide the
public.

The complex was oriented on the North-South axis to
minimise the solar heat gain. Moreover, good functional
relationship and circulation were also included in the
design by making vertical & horizontal elements as an
inter-related zoning for the six storey hospital complex.
The colours and textures of materials also play a major
role to create a comfortable and pleasant ambience
particularly for the Paediatric Ward. In general, the
ward layout was designed to enable each patient bed to
be seen from the Nurse’s Station in the centre.
