Course Synopsis

This course serves as an introduction to the study of International Relations. It will
explain the major theories and concepts in international relations and the
development of the international systems. The course will also discuss major events
in international politics to illustrate the concerns of contemporary world. It emphasis
the role of states as major actors in international affairs topics in this subject include
theories of International Relations and etc.

At the end of this course students are able to:

Course Synopsis

The course aims at enabling the students to discuss and understand regional
integration process and regional cooperation among states in different parts of the
world. Students will be exposed to the theories and approaches of regionalism. The
course will engage students in the analysis of the factors that facilitate and
necessitate regional integration and regional cooperation through the study of regional
organisations such as ASEAN, EU, African Union and MERCOSUR. The course will
also discuss major issues and challenges to consolidating regional integration and
regional cooperation in a globalised world and unstable political and security
environment.

Course Learning Outcome

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant concepts, theories and the
factors facilitating regional integration process in different parts of the world.

2. Compare the different degree of regional integration in differnt parts of the

Course Synopsis

This course is designed to provide a conceptual and empirical background necessary
to understand globalization and the changes taking place in the international
economy. While concepts from International Political Economy will be studied in this
course, the focus of this course is not on economic theory per-se but rather on
analyzing critical empirical issues in the current international economic system.
Students will particularly analyze issues related to the politics of international
economic relations and economic globalization. At a broader level, students study
topics such as international trade policy and protectionism, foreign investment, the
politics of international finance and financial crises, and the future of the global
economic system.

Course Learning Outcome

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the factors and events shaping Malaysian
politics, its political process and political system.

2. Explain the concepts, orientations, sources and development of Malaysia’s
foreign policy.

This course will focus some overarching theoretical and methodological issues so that
we have a core set of analytical tools that can apply to study of specific International
Organizations (IOs). From a methodological point of view, this course will be
concerned with questions of endogeneity and non-random selection. That is,
separating the circumstances under which IOs take action from the inherent effects of
their actions.

The course provides students with the knowledge on the origins, development and
evolution of diplomacy in the different international systems. It will discuss the role and
importance of diplomacy to preserve world peace and international security and its
use to promote and protect states’ interests in international relations. The course will
discuss the role and functions of actors and institutions involved in the conduct of
diplomacy. Relevant examples of states’ foreign policies are examined to illustrate the
use of diplomacy as a viable means of consolidating international understanding and
cooperation.

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant concepts, theories,
development, functions and procedures of diplomacy.

2. Explain the role and importance of diplomatic agents and institutions

Course Synopsis

The primary focus of this course is upon the interaction and interrelation between
international law and diplomacy. This course inter alia exposes students to the
concepts and provisions of legal instruments related to diplomacy, the application of
legal provisions within the realm of diplomacy and international security studies,
immunities to heads of state as well as senior state officials. Apart from international
treaties such as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, the course also
analyses the place of customary international law in the regulation of diplomatic
relations.

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Explain basic theories and legal principles governing diplomatic relations.

2. Apply international legal norms and principles to matters pertaining to
diplomatic relations.

Course Synopsis

Ethics in Diplomacy introduces students to the fundamentals of moral principles that
govern a person's behavior (presenting State) or the conducting of an activity in the
International Level. The practices of ethics in diplomacy from the ancient to the current
practice and how ethics drive the process will be studies. The role of Ambassador and
Consular are the main practices to be shown to the student and how they managing
negotiation and conflicts. At the end, student will be able to understand how a
representative of one country behave in different situations.

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Identify the concepts and patterns in the study of ethics in diplomacy.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the causes, consequences, moderation

and outcome of ethics in diplomacy.

subfields of International Politics, International Security, International Political Economy
and Global Governance.

Course Synopsis

This course is designed to provide a conceptual and empirical background necessary to
understand globalization and the changes taking place in the international economy.
While concepts from International Political Economy will be studied in this course, the
focus of this course is not on economic theory per-se but rather on analyzing critical
empirical issues in the current international economic system. Students will particularly
analyze issues related to the politics of international economic relations and economic
globalization. At a broader level, students study topics such as international trade policy
and protectionism, foreign investment, the politics of international finance and financial
crises, and the future of the global economic system.

Academic Paper is the culminating point of the course where students are required to
produce a 10,000-word mini dissertation on any topic related to international relations.
Students will be required to identify a suitable topic for the paper before a supervisor is
assigned to guide the student throughout the preparation of the dissertation. The
dissertation must be completed within the period of the semester and a viva-voce
session will be held before marks are awarded for the paper.

integration with particular reference to South Asian Association for Regional

The course teaches student the key perspectives of the maritime domain. It covers

Course Synopsis

This course introduces the students the fundamentals, principles and concepts of
financial management and accounting in business entity and in public sector.
Students are also exposed to the sources and usage of information in making
decision. Some of the aspects covered in this course are financial statement
analysis, time value of money, capital budgeting, cost of capital, cash and working
capital management. Students will also be exposed to public sector accounting as
well as the introduction of Islamic finance.

Pre-requisite

Course Synopsis

This course is the culminating point of the undergraduate programme where
students are required to produce an academic paper or thesis on any topic related
to the subjects of defence human resource management. This course is the
continuity of academic paper proposal during Seminar in Defence Resources
Management last semester. The student already identified research topic for the
paper and will be assigned by supervisor. A viva-voce session will be held upon
research report before a complete undergraduate academic paper or thesis by the
end of the course semester.
Course Outcomes

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Identify and conduct suitable research articles in preparation for writing an
academic paper report.

2. Produce an academic paper using the correct format.
3. Identify the right methodological approaches to organize and collect

information of data.

Pre-requisite

Course Synopsis

This course is aimed at providing the necessary exposure and working experience
to students in line with the national Industrial Training Policy of the Ministry of
Higher Education. Students will be placed at defence-related institutions or
industries such as the Ministry of Defence, STRIDE, IDFR and AIROD. This
exercise is as much an effort to provide opportunities for students to apply the
knowledge acquired throughout their studies as to prepare them for the real life
working environment. Students will be required to produce a report based on their
industrial training experience as part of this training exercise.

Pre-requisite

Course Synopsis

The course aims at enabling the students to understand compensation and benefits
in human resource management. Student will be taught the features, key elements
and methods involved in compensation and benefits. Apart from the business
environment, students will also be taught the application of compensation and
benefits in managing human resources.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course students are able to:

1. Identify the main features of compensation and benefits in human
resource management.

2. Explain the key elements of compensation and benefits from literatures in
order to improve organisation performance.

3. Organise in groups to study and present the application of compensation
and benefits in defence and business environment based on a given
topics.
