Course Synopsis
The subject is meant to expose the students with the general overview on areas of
law which affect business environment in Malaysia. It will cover the law of contract as
the governing principles in all business transactions. The topics include the
introduction of the Malaysian legal system covering the sources of laws, separation
of powers, administration of justice, the nature and legal consequences of contract,
formation of contract, legal capacity, performance of contract, breach of contract and
remedies. This course also covers issues pertaining to work and industrial law such
as employment contract, employer-employee relationship as well as trade union.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the essential knowledge, skills,
theories and principles relevant in the area of physical security in the organizations.
Students shall be taught the essentials of surveying an installation, conduct a risk
analysis and producing a report. They will also learn to conduct an investigation and
prepare contingency plans for and installation. Other aspect such as information
security and cargo transportation security operations will also be covered. The usage
of technology to enhance security operations shall be emphasised. Current trends in
global security operations will also be covered.

Course Synopsis
Defence management is the bridge between the economy of the nation and tactical
operations of military and security forces. This course endeavours to introduce the
various issues and challenges of management in contemporary defence
organisations. Defence Managers need to recognise that defence resources are
often limited and its allocation is an economic problem of choice. These requires a
thorough understanding of the economic environment of defence, budgetary issues,
acquisition of capital assets, capability development and its management. Other
aspects such as the application of operations research techniques, employment of
private military contractors, and, ethics and governance in defence will also be
discussed.

The course aims to provide students with a sound foundation in the management of
defence resources. The emphasis is not on training in job-specific skills, but rather
education on the concepts, techniques and issues that are commonly found in the
management of scarce defence resources. Case studies will be used extensively to
develop an understanding of principles and methods drawn from examination of the
current state of management thought and organized action (management theory),
topics dealing with the basic view of resource scarcity relative to competing needs
and wants (economic analysis) and the basic language and analytic tools, which are
the foundation of modern decision theory (quantitative reasoning).

This course exposes students the conceptual foundation of defence economics in
Malaysia, it surrounding nations (regional) and the world (with special attention to the
major superpowers). The course will discuss various fundamental issues such as the
defence economics policy and strategy, defence spending and it relation to economic
growth, the economic outcome of world at war and crisis, and world arm race and
defence transactions and it implication on developed countries, defence procurement
processes and the economics of military manpower. This study also explains the
defence industry as an important component of global economy and how it affects
the economy of countries that are known to be major producers of weapons and
defence equipment. The course will also discuss the economic impact of the
presence of foreign military bases in certain selected countries and how their
existences affect the socio-economic development of the local communities.

Students will initially be exposed to the UN, its history, purpose and principles. They
will also have an understanding of both traditional and multidimensional
peacekeeping operations. Malaysia’s experience derived from numerous
