Function
The Children's Unit provides educational, recreational, and cultural
resources for children aged 6 to 11. It has a large collection of picture books,

Function
Marvel Cinematic Universe Library affirms its commitment to provide all
members of the library’s community with access to library information
resources and services. Wherever possible, MCU Libraries’ staff will
remove barriers that prevent equitable access for persons with disabilities.
MCU Library will help disabilities user to locate resources, retrieving
materials, digital delivery and assistive technology.

Function
The Gallery is meant to be a gathering place for the enrichment of the
intellectual, educational and cultural life of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Library and the larger community. Programs in the Library Gallery present
the opportunity to generate discussion and a spirit of cooperative
exploration. The Library Gallery aspires to be a lively place reflecting the
dynamic nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Library research and
teaching activities.

5.0 COLLECTION IN MCU LIBRARY
5.1 COLLECTION CATEGORIES
5.1.1 OPEN SHELF – ALL MATERIALS THAT CAN BE BORROWED
ARE PLACED IN THIS COLLECTION
This collection consists of books on all subjects and genre. It is located at
level 2 of the main building. All books in this location can be borrowed. This is the
biggest and widest collection of all since it covers all the subjects from A to Z. This
collection size of audience covers from children to adult. This book the shelves are
arranged according to assigned Call Numbers. As for today, the collection consists
of 22, 500 copies and can be loan out by eligible patrons. The Open Shelf Collection
consists of books in English, Malay, Tamil and Mandarin.
English and indigenous language books have no prefix. These are inter-
shelved while Malay books are prefixed “M” and are shelved together with the
English books. Chinese books are prefixed “C” and shelved in the Chinese section
and Tamil books are prefixed “T” and shelved in the Tamil section. Though there
are Tamil and Chinese language books but the collection for this source are quite
limited measured to Malay and English language books.

MATERIALS FOR REFERENCE ONLY
Includes reference sources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, guidebooks,
bibliographies, abstracts, directories, indexes, reports, and more. These reference
materials are marked 'ref.' Materials in this collection may be referred to in the
library only. The location of the collection is located at level 3 and labelled with a
green adhesive.
Encyclopedias
As encyclopedias is referred as reference tool with information on wide
range of topics, it is indeed a must for every library to have it for their patrons’ uses
and needs. Usually encyclopedias were found many in public schools and local
libraries. Most sets of encyclopedias are comprised of multiple volumes and list
topics alphabetically. In our reference collection of encyclopedias, we have
“Encyclopedias Britannica”, “New World Encyclopedia” and also “World Book
Encyclopedia”. It provided a legitimate information from the expert and scholarly
sources that can be verified.

For the dictionaries, MCU Library has many kinds of dictionaries provided
specially for MCU Library patrons and users. It is for the best use for any generation
from toddlers until the adults. Dictionaries that available in MCU Library is Oxford,
Longman, Urban Dictionary, and many more. These brand of dictionaries covers
many types such as general dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, defining
dictionaries and etc.

Guidebooks or also known as travel guide is a book of information
regarding about a place designed for the use of tourists or visitors of one’s place. It

the top favorite pick by the patrons.

What is accessible in MCU library is the technical reports collections. Technical

conclusions of a particular research. To be exact, technical report is a document
written by a researcher detailing the results of a project and submitted to the sponsor

MCU Art and Heritage
MCU Art and Heritage urges collaborations between contemporary artists

and heritage organizations to create new perspectives for diverse audiences. Its
projects bring to life the atmosphere and architecture of places and histories. For

the MCU Art and Heritage is a place or spot where the users or the patrons can
come and visit the heroes’ description, background history and achievements.

The MCU Art and Heritage is situated at 3rd floor of the library where it
used half of the floor just for this special collection of the library. The theme of the
heritage site is black and dark as it bolds the heroes image and figure. It gives the
premium vibe of feels.

This part of special collection is suitable for all. They can come in a group
or alone to look this art and heritage of Marvel Cinematic Universe collection.
Usually this place is similar to an exhibition where it displays the items and
products ones have. Most of the library visitors and users like to visit to the MCU
Art and Heritage. The statistic of the library visitors in this area collected the most
in number.

MCU Library Publication
Our library has made a publication under the MCU Library itself. There are

some of the publication made such as comic books and magazines related to the
marvel cinematic universe. Since the library itself is a big organization, we are able
to make our own products of sources which can benefits the community. The MCU
Library Publication is a dedication by the chief librarian. It is a motivation for the
library organization to make a stand parallel to the other big libraries around the
world.

Newspapers that available in this library is Utusan Malaysia, The Star,

Harian Metro, Sinar Harian, Berita Harian, New Straits Times,Malaysian Reserve,
Nanyang Siang Pau, China Press and Malaysia Nanban. The newspapers available
in MCU Library covers from Malay, English, Mandarin and Tamil language. This
newspaper is highly request from the community in this library. For sure, by giving
all the information available is the main priority towards the patrons and users.

5.1.4 MEDIA COLLECTION
Media collection is a collection consists of non-print materials in a variety

formats such as DVD, VHS, video game, documentaries, images, audio cassette,
videos, CD. Other than books form or book materials is situated in this type of
collection. Usually media collection spot also reserve space for playing movies like
a mini cinema, a microfilm scanners, VHS Player and Laser Disc Player. Items in
the media collection can be both retrieved and returned at the Service Desk, located
on the first floor in the library.

DVD collection
For the mini cinema room, there are 4 in total. The mini cinema room is

special made for users who want to play a movie based on the DVD and

documentaries the MCU Library has provided. There are many types of DVD
collection which covers many languages available such as English, Malay, Korean,
Mandarin and Tamil movies. These DVDs are all up-to-date movies and the best of
best movies in history. The users will be thrilled by the DVD collection provided
by the library. In order to provide the best DVD collection, the staffs in the library
had make a survey on all-time favorite movies of people in a period. The DVDs
collection has reach more than 300 in the library.
Documentaries

Documentaries also provided in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Library
which is suitable for users that wants to watch on something about history,
criticisms and reviews about something. As documentary is a nonfictional motion
picture which is intended to document reality, primarily for the purpose of
instruction, education or maintaining a historical record.

Mini Cinema Room in MCU Library
CD collection

CDs collection covers the learning for children such as learning the
alphabet, children learning songs and a bedtime story in CD format. There is also
CD that were attached to the books format in other collection where users have to
search for the CD format in Media collection. CDs in MCU Library cannot be
borrowed outside since there is no copies for every title.

Video Games

There is also video games available in the media collection. There are PS3,
PS4, Nintendo Switch games, and many more. This video games focus on teenagers
which love to play games. Instead of just come to the library for study and learning
purpose, the library has prepared a place where anyone can come and play games
provided in the library. The teenagers especially male would love to spending times
in the library as it has a spot where they can meet up mingle with friends aside from
making a study group and group discussion.
