SPIC MACAY Hindustani Classical Vocal May 2023 “A nation’s culture resides in the heart and soul of its people.” M.K. Gandhi Celebrating heritage is one of the ways to define human identity and trace our roots. Lotus Valley International School takes pride in the rich heritage of this great nation that binds us together timelessly. We build multiple opportunities to familiarize our learners with the many facets of our rich and vibrant heritage through a plethora of activities. The school has been organizing a multitude of events to open the portals of enigmatic and spiritual art forms to our learners which leads to the understanding of the highest being through Gyaan (Knowledge), Gaan (Music and dance), Dhyaana (Focus), and Adhyana (Practice). Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram, in collaboration with Spic Macay, hosted the ‘Celebration of Heritage’ with an exclusive Hindustani Classical Vocal presentation by The Maestros Duo Shri Ritesh Mishra and Shri Rajnish Mishra, the sixth generation of the family of great musicians who have performed at the most prestigious concerts all over the world, such as BBC Royal Albert Hall, London, Lincoln Centre, New York, closing ceremony of Commonwealth Games, 2002 in Manchester, UK. They have sung the 3rd track ‘Mahadeva’ in the album called ‘Rise’ that has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Grammy Awards’. Top Grade vocalists of All India Radio and Television, they have been awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Award. They were accompanied by Shri Durjay Bhaumik on Tabla and India’s famed harmonium player Smt. Paromita Mukherjee. The event began with the euphonious performance of Raaga “मिय ाँ िल्ह र” named after Miya Tansen and their Grammy-nominated composition- “Mahadeva”, which transferred the audience to a musical melomania. An interesting interactive session with the artists helped learners understand Indian Classical Music more closely. The interaction between the artist and the young learners was instructive, informative, and delightful. The importance of “Riyaz,” discipline, and focus was stressed upon to achieve musical intelligence. The interaction also highlighted on how the modern forms of music are merely extracts of classical music - "The "Jannani" (Mother) of all melodies. The event culminated with our in-house talents: Srishti Gaur, VIII Nile and Megha Anand, XI Edison, presenting an exquisite symphony with remarkable vocal control and harmonium skills, touching the chords of everyone in the audience, followed by the students proposing the vote of thanks on behalf of the Lotus Valley Family.
