La marina deportiva (inaugurada en 1966) se encuentra en Sant Andreu de Llavaneres el Maresme, uno de los municipios con mayor renta per cápita de Cataluña y un territorio que no le es ajeno al actor. Uno de los tres años que pasó escolarizado en Barcelona lo vivió en Mataró, a pocos kilómetros al sur de donde está amarrado el barco con el que saldremos al mar para dar forma a la portada y al reportaje de este número de Nautik: un Pardo 43.Morte nació junto al mar. Fue en Algeciras, hace 51 años. Si uno pregunta a Wikipedia (o a Google, o a cualquier IA) por los hijos ilustres de esta ciudad gaditana, el primer nombre que aparece es el de Paco de Lucía. Hoy, el de Álvaro Morte también forma parte de esa lista. Aunque poco después de nacer se trasladó a un pequeño pueblo de Córdoba, regresó a Algeciras en la adolescencia para estudiar y mantiene allí amigos y familia.“Familia que, en algunos casos, está muy ligada al puerto”, señala. No es extraño: buena parte de la sociedad algecireña vive directa o indirectamente del que es el primer puerto de España en tráfico total de mercancías y uno de los grandes nodos del Mediterráneo.Suena a tópico, o a pregunta tipo “¿teatro o cine?”, pero es inevitable en Nautik: ¿vela o motor?Navegar siempre es un placer. Reconozco que hacerlo a vela tiene ese punto mágico de escuchar solo el mar, pero también es estupendo ir a motor. Te da libertad absoluta para ir a donde quieras y disfrutar igual.¿Y navegando? ¿Algún recuerdo imborrable?Una semana navegando en un junco, el velero clásico de Vietnam, en la bahía de Ha Long con un amigo. Es un recuerdo inolvidable. Y, más cerca, Lanzarote me tiene completamente robado el corazón.¿Navegaciones pendientes?Muchas. Sueño con hacerlo alrededor de Japón.También habrá proyectos pendientes en tierra. ¿Dirigir cine o series?El proyecto más inmediato llega ya: es de la BBC y se llama This City Is Ours (Los amos de la ciudad), sobre la mafia de Liverpool. En cuanto a dirigir, ya lo he hecho en teatro. Una serie, por ejemplo, tendría que ser algo muy apasionante, porque si no, dirigir puede convertirse en una relación casi tóxica.Usted fundó junto a su mujerla compañía 300 Pistolas. ¿De dónde surge el nombre?Nos gustan mucho los clásicos. Viene de Los tres mosqueteros, de Dumas. Hemos producido obras como Tres sombreros de copa o El perro del hortelano, y ahora estamos valorando dar el salto definitivo al audiovisual.un audiovisual, sin duda, le cambió la vida: pasó de series diarias de televisión a protagonizar un fenómeno global como La casa de papel. ¿Cómo se gestiona una fama tan repentina y transversal?Con distancia y con madurez. Sin dejarse llevar por los neones. Recordando siempre de dónde vengo, con los pies en la tierra y rodeado de un círculo fuerte y real.Además del Profesor, ha impactado también interpretando al primer presidente español en el regreso de la democracia.Me costó creer que pensaran en mí para interpretar a Adolfo Suárez en Anatomía de un instante, el libro glorioso de Javier Cercas que Alberto Rodríguez adaptó de forma magistral. El respeto fue máximo, sin caer en la imitación. El trabajo de todo el reparto fue extraordinario.Creo que le ofrecieron el papel durante su estancia en el West End de Londres. ¿Qué hacía allí?Teatro en inglés. Salir completamente de mi zona de confort fue un reto enorme. Hicimos ‘Barcelona’ junto a Lily Collins y llenamos el Duke of York’s Theatre cada día, batiendo récords históricos.Otra pregunta inevitable: ¿qué tiene el teatro que no tienen las series o el cine?En el teatro estás transmitiendo en directo. Se crea un círculo en el que participan todos: desde quien está en escena hasta el último espectador. En audiovisual no existe ese intercambio. Los profesionales trabajan, cumplen su función, pero no hay público. La experiencia emocional es distinta.Volviendo al mar: en la serie Sin límites interpreta a Juan Sebastián Elcano.Sí. Y aunque la aventura es épica, no quise interpretarlo como un héroe desde el inicio, sino como un tipo corriente de Getaria que, casi sin quererlo, acaba convirtiéndose en uno.Siempre recuerda de dónde viene. ¿Y hacia dónde va?A los 25 años me enfrenté a uno de los papeles más difíciles de mi carrera: interpretar a Bernarda Alba, una mujer mayor y viuda. Y ocurrió la magia. El espectador entra en el juego de la interpretación si tú crees en él. The sports marina (opened in 1966) is located in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, in El Maresme, one of the municipalities with the highest per capita income in Catalonia — and an area not unfamiliar to the actor. One of the three years he spent in school in Barcelona was in Mataró, just a few kilometers south of where the boat we’ll take out to sea for this issue’s Nautik cover and feature is moored: a Pardo 43.Morte was born by the sea. It was in Algeciras, 51 years ago. If you ask Wikipedia (or Google, or any AI) about notable figures from this Cádiz city, the first name that appears is Paco de Lucía. Today, Álvaro Morte’s name also belongs on that list. Although shortly after being born he moved to a small town in Córdoba, he returned to Algeciras as a teenager to study and still has friends and family there.“Family who, in some cases, are closely tied to the port,” he notes. I admit there’s something magical about moving under sail and hearing nothing but the sea, but it’s also wonderful to go by motor. It gives you absolute freedom to go wherever you want and enjoy it just the same.And while sailing — any unforgettable memories?A week sailing on a junk, the classic Vietnamese sailing boat, in Ha Long Bay with a friend. An unforgettable memory. And closer to home, Lanzarote has completely stolen my heart.Any dream voyages still pending?Many. I dream of sailing around Japan.There must also be projects pending on land. Directing films or series?My most immediate project is coming out now: it’s from the BBC and it’s called This City Is Ours (The Kings of the City), about the Liverpool mafia. As for directing, I’ve already done that in theater. A series, for instance, would have to be something truly compelling, because otherwise directing can become an almost toxic relationship.You founded the company 300 Pistolas with your wife. La mar me ha enseñado el valor del conocimiento, del trabajo en equipo y de la seguridad. Durante años mi vida fue la mar. La conocí desde la vela ligera hasta la disciplina y responsabilidad de la Marina Mercante, donde cada guardia te educa en método, seguridad y toma de decisiones. Hasta que perdí la vista y, con ella, la forma habitual de orientarme. La pasión no desapareció, cambiaron las preguntas. Y, con una sonrisa, pensé en Montesquieu: cambia el punto de vista y cambia el mundo. Yo elegí insistir, persistir y resistir.Me caí más de una vez, pero aprendí algo que hoy me acompaña en cada navegación: pedir ayuda no significa ceder el timón, es crear las condiciones para volver a decidir.El 25/07/2025, en mi Patín a Vela, Lady, circunnavegué la Isla de Wight en 13 horas y 8 minutos. Fue una navegación exigente, con escenarios muy distintos. En Bembridge Ledge, se formó una mar crecida, parecía estar en una lavadora, y rachas de viento que alcanzaron los 30 nudos, comprendí que la autonomía no es un esloganEn World Sailing Inclusive Championship 2025 (Omán) dimos otro salto: primer equipo español de discapacidad visual finalizando subcampeones del mundo.De esa convicción nace Yes We Sail: una náutica inclusiva para todas las personas. 12 sensores de vibración traducen información en patrones hápticos; uno marca el rumbo y, bajo demanda, otro la marcación del viento.Nada de esto se construye en solitario. I learned everything from dinghy sailing to the discipline and responsibility of the Merchant Navy, where every watch teaches you method, safety, and decision-making. Until I lost my sight and, with it, my usual way of finding my bearings. The passion didn’t disappear, but the questions changed. And, with a smile, I thought of Montesquieu: change your point of view and you change the world. I chose to insist, persist, and resist. I fell more than once, but I learned something that accompanies me today in every voyage: asking for help does not mean giving up the helm, it means creating the conditions to decide again. On July 25, 2025, in my sailing dinghy, Lady, I circumnavigated the Isle of Wight in 13 hours and 8 minutes. It was a demanding voyage, with very different scenarios. At Bembridge Ledge, a swell formed, it felt like being in a washing machine, and with wind gusts reaching 30 knots, I understood that autonomy is not just a slogan. At the World Sailing Inclusive Championship 2025 (Oman), we took another leap forward: we were the first Spanish team of visually impaired sailors and we finished as world runners-up. From that conviction, Yes We Sail was born: inclusive sailing for everyoe.n Technology and protocol come together: 12 vibration sensors translate information into haptic patterns; one sets the course and, on demand, another sets the wind direction.None of this is built alone.
