From the Principal’s Desk
“All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.”
Robin Sharma
The academic year 2020- 21 is going to be an
unforgettable one for sure. The pandemic has its
own effect on the education system and has
brought in multiple changes in the teaching-
learning environment. The way Shri students,
Shri educators and Shri parents displayed their
flexibility, adaptability, emotional balance and
resilience being true warriors during these
challenging situations is highly commendable.
As the leader of the institution, I take pride and
without hesitation would like to say that we
made a difference. Despite facing painful
situations and different challenges during this
pandemic, being a person with a positive
outlook, I want to make sure that I remember this
year for the right reasons.
I want to share four things as my key lessons from 2020-21.
Firstly, I will always remember the resilience that mankind has shown in times that
challenged every belief that there was. It is now even more evident that nothing is impossible
if we are determined to achieve it.
Secondly, I will remember this invaluable lesson that kindness and compassion have no
substitutes. When all else fails, these virtues triumph. ‘Vasudaiyva Kutumbakam’ is
becoming a reality.
Thirdly, I will remember the year gone by for the clean and green times that we could
experience. It is evident now that the environment thrives better when human greed is kept
under control.
Last but not the least, the year has left me feeling immensely proud and humbled with how
'The Shri Family' has shown solidarity in making sure that nothing deters the Shri Spirit.
The testimony of this spirit is our Student Magazine. Kudos to every Shriite who has
contributed to this edition of the Student Magazine.
We continue with the same spirit making compassion and commitment as our two-point
agenda going forward in the pursuit of excellence in everything we do.
Stay blessed and stay safe.

From the Senior Academic Head’s Desk
Dear Shriites
Namaste!
It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of
the Shri family and I would like to thank each
one of you for making me feel at home so
quickly.
I would like to congratulate you for your grit and
determination in sailing through the pandemic
year and emerging victorious. I know that it has
been difficult to be confined to your homes,
away from your friends, not being able to chit
chat (though I am confident that you did find a
way around this!) and away from your teachers,
who have missed you immensely.
Your teachers did teach you many things but
they also learnt equally from you; in the year
2020-21, many of us have managed to be a
success, thanks to your support!
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to be observant, for you my dear Shriites,
can change the world for the better.
Notice that gentleman guarding your colony or condominium; notice that lady who tirelessly
ensures a clean environment in your house; notice that shopkeeper who exposes himself to
the dangers of the virus so that you and I get our daily essentials. What about that delivery
boy from our favourite food joint or the pharmacy? What about the technician who did a
blood test for your grandparent?
There are many invisible angels around us. I want you to observe and acknowledge their
contribution with a Namaste or a Thank you. You will notice that you have spread sunshine
with just this simple act of yours and compelled others to do the same.
Observe the problems that are being faced by your parent, your grandparents, your teachers
and all the people around you. You might be able to come up with a simple solution to
something which might be the bane for someone else. Sherlock Holmes rightly said, “Don’t
just see; observe. There is a wealth of distinction between the two!”
Finally, I would like to share that this year’s ‘Shri Darpan’ has been lovingly put together by
your teachers and I would like to make a special mention of Ronak Ma’am, Simmi Ma’am,
Rachita Ma’am and Antara Ma’am who have worked tirelessly to ensure that you get to see
this year’s edition.
Looking forward to a 2021-22 that is filled with fun and learning!
Love,
Usha Ma’am.

Tête-à-Tête with Ms. Anupama Jain
A glimpse into an interactive session with the famous author and social media influencer, Ms.
Anupama Jain, who is author of novels like 'When Padma Bani Paula' and 'Masala Mix: Potpourri of
Shorts’ a short story collection etc.
Shriya S: Did you always know that you
would become a writer? What were some
other professions you considered taking?
Anupama Ma’am: There was a long period
where I was just vegetating because I was
busy with my children. I’m a computer science
graduate so for a long time I ran a software
company along with my husband. We
animated a lot of tales like the Panchatantra,
and I was overseeing the team of animators.
This is what I did before getting into
writing.
Vedhika C: Why
is humour your favourite genre? Why not
something else?
Anupama Ma’am: When I was young, I think I used to be a “complain box” for
a long time. I used to find fault with everything. But when tragedy hit, it was like
hitting the absolute rock bottom. I was crying bitterly and my father told me to
grow up and start walking. I haven’t cried ever since. I feel that if you cry, you
generally cry a lot. But if you laugh, you attract thousands of people. There are
so many people who write emotional drama and very few people that can laugh
at something. And if you laugh at something, the problem becomes very trivial.
Shriya S: Are some of the characters in your stories inspired by people you meet
in life?
Anupama Ma’am: Yes! You have no idea how many stories I’ve written about
my family. My parents, my husband, my children; they’re my greatest source of
entertainment and story material.
Vedhika C: How long does it take you to write a book? Could you explain how
to publish books?
Anupama Ma’am: Ah, the first draft takes me about two months, or
three months’ maximum. Then the cycle starts, back and forth. Next, you send
the script across and the editor takes about a month and gives you suggestions
to improve. You rework, and this is where the editing comes because he is cutting
the fat out of the whole thing. You are so invested in your work that you don’t
10 |Shri Darpan
want to part with any words! You need to have faith in your editor because he’s
looking at it with a fresh eye. This exercise happens around… if you’re lucky, 3
times… but I had a friend who’s had to send it 13 times before the final book came
out. The whole process takes about a year. E-books are much faster as you have
a lot of online editing software.
Shriya S: Writing is not an easy profession. How do you drive yourself forward
when you feel like giving up?
Anupama Ma’am: This is such a relevant question! Writing is a very lonely
profession; it’s not a paid profession at all. You have to have a day job where you
earn. Writing is something you do for your pleasure. But since there are so many
authors, it’s often a scary proposition because you’re literally running to stand on
the safe spot. If you slip, you’re out. You need to bring out innovative ways to
bring out your story. I try to attempt various formats of storytelling so that I
don’t get popped down, I don’t get bored. Sometimes I write flash fiction,
sometimes extempore, sometimes a blog. I’ve also started making video stories
by animating my characters and spinning the plot by talking. If you explore
different ways of telling the same story, it keeps the momentum going.
Shriya S: What message would you like to give aspiring writers?
Anupama Ma’am: Read, read, read! Improve your vocabulary. Learn to express
yourself in better words. And edit, edit, edit. Not many people will emphasize on
this; they’ll just tell you to read and write more. But the most important thing is
editing. And remember punctuation! Most people don’t know the difference
between basic grammar!
Vedhika C: What do you like to do when you're not writing? Does your day-to-
day life have any influence on your writing?
Anupama Ma’am: As the favourite saying goes in North India, I cook myself! I
cook all the meals of the day as I find it very calming. I see a lot of cooking videos
every day. I also teach young kids, which takes up some times. I also do Netflix
binging, although I’m very bad at that!

Head Boy
I am very grateful to the school staff for believing in my potential and giving me
the opportunity to serve my school as the head boy. The academic year 2020-
2021 had been challenging for all the students but with our teachers always
standing by us made online learning really fun and interesting. Being the head
boy, I would like to take up the opportunity on behalf of all shriites to thank all
the teachers and the entire school department to help us get through these
difficult times and guide us to the right path. I have always tried my best to
perform my duties with integrity during this year and support my fellow mates
in every way possible. Upholding the responsibility of head boy has helped me
grow in many aspects as a person and discover my true potential.

Head Girl
“Logic will take you from A to B, imagination will take you everywhere!”
Namaste everyone! I am Nishka Ravi head girl of academic year 2020-2021. This
year we were faced with a whole new challenge due to the pandemic, the whole
world shifted to a virtual platform overnight, which is now known as the new
normal. Our resilience and agility were tested in these trying times. Even though
it took a little time to adapt to the new ways, at the end we proved ourselves
successful in many areas as we moved to adopting new ways of learning on a
mammoth scale. It helped us in getting more accustomed to gadgets and
technology and through the virtual platform we could reach places all over the
world. Even though the pandemic has deeply impacted us, it has helped us see the
world in a new perspective and taught us that, all of us can do our own bit. This
has been certified by the kindness journal that all us shriites kept throughout the
year.
This year even during the pandemic our school held an Eco-Diwali drive which
helped shape the mind of many young shriites towards an environment friendly
perspective. Shri Hunar was a wonderful way to showcase all the talent that we
hold. The model parliament activity gave us students an opportunity to see the
Indian political system and the depth of it. To celebrate one of the official
languages of India our school had an informative celebration of ‘Hindi Divas’.
During this time of illnesses and COVID scare, fitness and health play
14 |Shri Darpan
an important part in our lifestyle and to support us in this, our school had a fun-
filled yoga and music day celebration.
To increase the horizon of learning, our school organized several guest speakers
including a very enthusiastic Ventriloquist. To help us pave a path to our future
the school held a career fest where all aspects of a possible career were covered,
this fest helped us to meet inspiring people with wonderful personalities and
experiences. This year from our “All-About” series we had “All About Art” which
made us embrace our creative side and helped us destress with the magic
of colours and paints.
I would like thank our bahiyas and didis for helping us whenever we needed it,
our beloved teachers for supporting and motivating all of us not to give up, my
fellow shriites for upholding the spirt of camaraderie even from the bounds from
a virtual classroom and Jyothi ma’am for being the guiding light that we look up
to. I am truly grateful to all of you for supporting me throughout this journey.
Once again thanking you all for this wonderful experience. I would like to end by
saying “You don’t need a title to be a leader” so go and embrace the leader in you!
Signing off and forever grateful to TSUS,

Demon Slayer or Kimetsu No Yaiba?
The Japanese anime focuses on a storyline based on
the main character Tanjiro and his younger sister
when his family was killed by the demon leader
while he was gone to sell some harvests and comes
back to find his family slaughtered. This caused him
to get the will of fighting and devotes his life to
slaying the demons to get revenge. It is a MUST
WATCH for all the people who are into sword
powers or superpowers.
I myself would recommend this anime a 9.5/10 as it
gave me a clear idea and made me visualize the
whole situation. It would have been a 10 out of 10 if
there was more of action the whole time but that is
my opinion so I do recommend everyone who is 10
years or above to watch this.

Importance of Good Health
Health is wealth. Good health is the greatest blessing that a person can have. It
is the key to happiness. It is the secret of every happy man. Only a healthy person
can enjoy life to its fullest and discharge his duties well. On the other hand, an
unwell person is a burden on all. Therefore, we must try our best to maintain
sound health. Balanced diet, regular exercise, proper rest, stress free life, wearing
a mask, maintaining social distancing are the key to get for good health according
to current situation.
Most of all, we should have regular check-ups. We must laugh more as laughing
is a therapy and the secret of good health. The care of body regarding food, exercise,
rest and protection against disease, are essential for the preservation of sound health.
Let us remember that life is worth living only by a healthy body, mind and soul.

My Biggest Triumph!
I have had many proud moments in my lifetime but one stands above them
all. When I was a toddler, one day, I wanted a block puzzle in Barnes
and Nobles. I asked my father for it, and he said I had to memorize the whole
alphabet to earn it. For a small toddler like me, that was a huge challenge to
undertake. So, for 4 hours, everyday, in front of the chalkboard I wrote and
wrote. I can still remember the white powder from the chalkdust in my hands.
My father asked me the alphabet, and I sang it. Each letter proud! Each letter
perfect! One by one I triumphed.
Over 26 letters, all in tune!
It was a Saturday morning, a joyous day for a joyous occasion. We pulled up into
the parking lot, the road was slippery and moist and there was a light fog in the
air. My father lifted me out of the van, and I walked happily beside him, with big
strides of excitement, towards Barnes and Nobles! The doors slid open and the
conditioned air washed over me, I jumped into the store like a superhero my dad
patted me along and I felt the carpet crunching under my feet. He lifted me up to
the shelf with the puzzle, and I snatched it away!!! I earned two things that day,
a great story my parents won't stop talking about, and a block puzzle that I
cherish much more than the other, one that will stick with me for the rest of my
life!!!

Learning for Students During Lockdown
During an unprecedented time like this, our government is doing its very best to
keep us safe. The free movement of mankind has come to a halt and the lives of
every person in the world is impacted due to the well-known coronavirus.
The big question is when normalcy will be restored in all fields of life. In this
scenario it is obvious that every field has to make their own decisions to keep
their businesses prevailing. As for the education sector, they have already found
their way out of this pandemic. My interpretation on this topic is that a student's
day-to-day life, without attending school, is incomplete. Now that schools will
be closed for probably the rest of the year, teachers/schools have found new and
innovative ways to continue to educate the children.
Online Teaching or Virtual School!
Some of the advantages of online classes are:
~Students forget the feeling that they are stuck at home
~Online classes are convenient and self-paced
~Online classes have the flexibility of time
As there are numerous advantages, there are few disadvantages as well:
~Kids can get easily distracted
~No surety that kids are completing their work on time
~Many kids can have internet /wifi problems
~Teachers don't know if the kids are completing the given work on time
~Some kids may/may not be on time for their classes
My personal experience with this learning platform has been quite challenging
but I am sure that I'll slowly but surely finish all my pending work.
As I had mentioned above, in this schooling system there are both advantages
and disadvantages. But I think everyone has to work together to get out of this
pandemic. If everyone chips in their ideas to survive, we’ll sail through it.
I also have a suggestion on how to improve student participation in online
classes:
~School can take half capacity of the students and teach them on alternate days
at school once the lockdown opens
In conclusion, I would like to mention that the online schooling system is the new
normal and evolving and students can maintain continunity of their studies.

Stop and Smell the Roses
(Inspired by A Short Monsoon Diary by Ruskin Bond)
Artificial. Man-made. Grey. Cloudy. These are
the words that come to my mind, when I think of
a monsoon in the city. Everything is dull and
gloomy, but people still go on and about with
their work. Everyone is so stressed and busy, that
no one stops to appreciate what is left of the beauty
around them. I feel that the rainy seasons of the
hills and beautiful valleys, are so much
livelier than the cities!
The aroma of the wet earth, attracts every
creature. From butterflies to worms,
everyone wants to wander around. Vivid,
colorful flowers dot the ground, and patches of
sap-green ferns are all over the place, creating a
tropical, scene! Leopards, birds, insects, and scarlet
minivets, disguised as bold rubies flutter all over the place.
The people living in the hills, take a break from working so hard, and soak in the
beauty of their surroundings. They take a breath of air, thinking about how lucky
they are to be present at that moment. A chilled glass of water, taken from the
crystal-clear stream of the unpolluted river, nearby, cools them down. At night,
the pitter-patter of the raindrops on the tin roof, and the warm glow of the lantern
hung up above, creates a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for a good book and a warm
cup of tea. Imagine how lovely, it would be like, to live like this.
I hope, this feeling of peace, and tranquility reaches the cold-hearted people of the
city. I hope people start to care for each other, and their environment, and
becoming a stronger community. So, I urge you, stop, breathe and smell the
roses.

The Winter Sleigh
My favourite season would be winter when the snow falls right at your doorstep
pulling you outside. It is the season when the glittering, icy snowflakes hit the
roads. What I love the most about winter mornings though are its beautiful,
white and cold morning and the view of the isolated street through the mist
covered window. The walks you take on the cold street with the most peaceful
music ringing through your earphones is something that nothing and no one can
22 |Shri Darpan
beat. I also love winter because of the joyful holidays of Christmas when
everything just feels right, when people gather around together, decorate
the christmas tree and bake mouth- watering goodies. Winter, for me, is the
season of joy and love!!!

Book Review of Kane Chronicles Series
The Kane Chronicles Series is one of my favorite Rick Riordan Books. It is more
about how two children Sadie and Carter Kane go on adventures with Egyptian
Gods to defeat the lord of Chaos and restore Ma’at (order) to the world. The first
book ‘The Red Pyramid’ is when they find out all about their past and that they
are the hosts of the Gods Horus and Iris. They also find out that they are the
blood of the Pharaohs. They made friends with a friendly Egyptian cat goddess
Bast. They lose their father in the mist of the release of the five Gods Osiris, Iris,
Horus, Set and Nephthys. Their father ends up being the host of Osiris, their
uncle Amos becomes the host of Set. Zia one of the members of the House of Life
becomes the host of Nephthys but it was a mistake made by the goddess. The
author Rick makes jokes here and there in the dialogues and lines which make
reading the books fun and addicting. The book two ‘The Throne of Fire’ is when
they find out they have to save the Ancient god Ra from Apophis swallowing him
and they make more friends and one of them was the god Bes. They have to find
the Throne of Fire on which Ra had sat during is time of being a Pharaoh. But
Ra isn’t fully sane during their adventure and Apophis keeps on destroying parts
of the world. The third book ‘The Serpent’s Shadow’ is when Ra finally becomes
sane and is challenged by his brother Apophis. They needed to find Apophis’s
Shadow which lurked in the deepest of the Duat. They Defeat Apophis and
restore order to the world but when Apophis gets banished into the duat, the
gods get banished to the heavens and Carter ends up becoming the Pharaoh down
on the Earth while Horus was Pharaoh up in the heavens.

Life in Lockdown
“What comes easy won’t last long, what lasts long won’t come easy”
The world has come to a standstill, as things are not moving as it was supposed
to. One Virus, (COVID-19), has brought the whole world to its knees. To fight
this virus, various steps have been taken. Washing hands, social distancing and
wearing masks are the new norms of our life. For a strict social distancing,
lockdown was also imposed.
Students across the globe are losing valuable time in their education due
to lockdown, but there are various online learning opportunities one can access
from home, thereby making good use of the lockdown period for skill
enhancement.
Amidst fear of the pandemic, most schools and colleges have come up with the
idea of online learning for students to start their respective academic years. As I
feel, that change is the only thing that is constant and we should be agile and
always ready to adapt to new means of learning. I believe that
online learning can be very useful during this time.
But learning isn’t just textbooks, we can learn from each and every thing.
This lockdown I have gained a lot of life skills and learnt how to do many
chores. My mom has taught me to bake many things like cakes, cheesecakes,
cookies etc. I even learnt to cook a Mexican and Italian meal. I also learnt to do
embroidery and bonded with family over board games.
I have learnt many lessons from reading books in this lockdown.
My school has sent us many fun and informative tasks, which keeps
us focussed on the happenings while using technology to learn.
The most important thing that this lockdown has taught me is to be patient and
work with things that are available. I have always been interested in outdoor
activities but now since I can’t go out, I have been attending online fitness
classes. I have been reusing waste materials of our house and made from them
useful like containers for masks, gloves etc.
This crisis has also tested us on how to work in such demanding and difficult
situations and what measures to be taken to avoid and minimise the impact.
This shows that “where there is a will there is a way”

Life
‘One word to say but, decades to enjoy’. There can never be able happiness, a
dream world and a perfect life. The only way to live a satisfied life is you have to
appreciate your pains, and you have to embrace named realities. So, don't run very
fast in life just slow down and enjoy the view. Never take your future very
seriously because one day we will realise that future does not exist.
Create such beautiful moments in your life, for which your memories be always
proud of. Life is nothing but a beautiful black dark sky of endless memories and
all the beautiful moments of our life will be scattered like twinkling stars on
surface. As a person the only mission of our life should be to decorate the sky with
millions of stars and beam with a beautiful mon. Nothing is going to last forever.
Let's enjoy and live to the fullest of our life.

Lost at the Railway Station
Everyone gathered their luggage and that we were able to leave for the province.
I was extremely excited because it was my birthday trip to Kerala. As we
entered the railway station, I noticed that there was an enormous rush. Many
of the passengers hurried to catch the train, clutching on to their kids and heavy
baggage. There was plenty of commotion. As the train arrived, my family
managed to get in through the train doors, however, I wasn’t able to. They tried
to unboard however it was too late when the doors shut latched. I was
baffled about what had happened. I burst into tears, when not knowing what
to do. All the things, as well as my phone, were in the luggage. I rushed to the
station office and told them what had happened. I requested them to make me
reach the next station which the railway authorities generously accepted.
They also stayed with me till my parents aarived.
Until then, I played with a stray cat on the station to calm myself down.
Suddenly I saw my parents walking towards me. I ran quickly and hugged them
crying tears of happiness.
We thanked the officer and caught the next train to our destition. This was the
most thrilling journey that I have had till date!

The Tale of Ariahline
(POEM WRITTEN IN EDGAR ALLAN POE’S ‘ANABEL LEE’ STYLE)
It was many and many a year ago,
In the kingdom by the free,
There was a maiden that lived,
That you may know by the name of Ariahline.
And this maiden she lived,
With no other thought,
Than to go to the dark woods and see.
Thus, was many and many a year ago,
In the kingdom of buried dreams,
That Ariahline went to the sea of dreary, gleaming dark trees.
The people they warned,
The horrors of thought,
“Nay, Miss Ariahline!
The woods are there dark, and creatures of hark,
Pray, no more can you proceed!”
But Ariahline, she snuck out at dark,
And walked across the street.
Thought she gave naught,
As long as she longed,
To see the dreary dark deep.
Oh, the horrors she saw!
The creatures of flaw!
Dark and dreadful and bleak.
Black Ichor they dripped,
With red eyes adrift,
They lunged and caught her it seemed!
The moments of last,
Their teeth and their claws,
Were caught in her sleeve!
The demons ripped off a piece,
And as she there screamed,
Laughed, dark, dreadful and dreak.
Thus, many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom of the dreads,

It was a wonderful time together with the students of Class 2E!!
They were enthusiastic and very excited to hear me and my
partner Shruthi Reddy!
They were interested to answer all the questions too…
When me and my partner conveyed them that the firecrackers affect our
respiratory system i.e. our lungs then they said it also affects our Ozone layer!
And our environment too…After listening this from them, me and my partner
were surprised! They were curious to know more!
The students also enjoyed the videos which me and my partner showed!!
I thank the teachers who gave us an opportunity and I have learned a lot!!
Thank you!

Career Genogram Reflection
One of the best tasks we were given during our Sparkling Saturdays was the
Career Genogram Project. A career genogram is your family tree traced back to
your grandparents that examines the careers that each member pursued.
38 |Shri Darpan
Earlier, there were limited options for careers but now there are so many options
to choose from and there’s a greater opportunity available to the children of
today.
For this project, I not only interviewed my family but also found out about the
different careers that my great grandparents and their parents pursued. Each of
them had different perspectives to their careers. They also told me about the
various qualifications and skills that are required in each of their fields.
I interviewed many people, but I found one of them very interesting and exciting!
My cousin, who’s a communication officer recently interned at an NGO in Peru.
When she was interning there, the NGO was having a fundraiser event. The
fundraiser event was raising money for Women’s Empowerment so that they
could run different women’s empowerment programs in the community. The
whole experience of working in an NGO and hearing from her about all the
experiences she had really got me excited.
At last, I’d like to say that this project surely gave me an idea of the career options
that are available though I’m still not sure about what I’d like to take up. The
entire process of making the family tree to framing questions to interviewing each
one was a learning by itself. I’ve learnt a lot from this project, and I’d like to thank
my school for introducing SAP to us!

Book Review – Wonder
The book Wonder is written by author R. J. Palacio. It is about a 10-year-old boy
with a face deformity and his challenges with fitting in with normal kids. This
book shows about how difficult it was for 10-year-old August Pullman to start
5th grade. It was the first time he had ever been to a real school. Why I personally
love this book, is because it shows that every kid is normal, and is a huge wonder.
A quote from this book I personally love, “You can’t blend in when you were born
to stand out” is absolutely beautiful and touches my heart.
The straightforward way in which R. J. Palacio approaches this topic is what
makes this an excellent book. Auggie might have an unusual face, but he's a
regular kid, and that makes him relatable, in spite of his challenges. Another
quality of this book that caught my eye is how Palacio also shifts her point of
view, telling the story through the eyes of characters other than Auggie. This
allows the reader to get to know characters like Auggie's sister, Via, who talks
about the way her brother takes over the family’s life.
The power of the book is in how Palacio creates such a normal, relatable character
from a boy living with such an extraordinary physical disability.

Book Review – A Little Princess
Genre: Children’s literature; Age: 10 and up
Summary:
A young girl, Sara is sent to a boarding school in London by her father even
though she doesn’t want to leave her home in India. Even at the boarding school
Sara leads a pampered life as the headmistress, Miss Minchin is impressed by her
father’s wealth. Sara was like a leader in her school as the other students look up
to her wealth and how well she spun tales from her imagination. When tragedy
strikes and Sara’s father dies, she loses all her wealth and is treated like a servant
by Miss Minchin. What happens to Sara and who she meets in her journey is
what this book is all about.
Review:
A lot of young girls imagine themselves to be a princess; I know, I did. I dreamt
about tall castle towers and horse drawn carriages, beautiful ball gowns and
glittering tiaras. I have read so many fairy tales that captivated me when I was
younger but this story is of a princess who did not have a royal title that enamored
me.
The author’s way of writing is whimsical and has a magical tone to it that made
me adore the book much more. Sara is an exceptional and well written character.
The young girl’s imaginative mind and kind heart gets her through tough times
until her fortune changes. She has a strong will and is eager to learn and she is
generous to everyone around her but she is very spoiled and thinks the world
revolves around her. Her optimistic nature is in stark contrast with few of the
other characters of the book, like Miss Minchin whose bitterness and dislike
towards Sara rubbed off on other students.
I think the story is very well written. The author’s vivid language instantly
sucked me in, from the beginning to the end but I did not care for how few of the
characters were described. I would have loved the book much more if Sara had
had more of a character arc and the other characters were paid a bit more
attention. The book reminds us that friendships are important and to never give
up. It tells us about the ups and downs of life and encourages us to work towards a
better future. All in all, it was a very satisfying and gripping read and I enjoyed
it thoroughly.

Brownies...Anyone?
For me it’s anytime. Our home is always ready for dessert and it guarantees
making the main meal so much more enjoyable. The anticipation of melting the
crumbly, fudgy, chocolatey treat in the mouth is worth it. My Mom and I makes
the best brownies and I would like to share the recipe with you today.
Ingredients:
100 gms Maida
150 gms Milkmaid
100 gms Cooking Chocolate
2 tbsp Butter
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
100 ml Coke/Pepsi
1/2 tsp Vanilla essence
1/4 cup Cashew nuts/walnuts (optional)
Method: Melt the chocolate in a non-stick pan or Microwave for 1 min. Mix all
the ingredients and beat with a twin blade beater. Pour the mixture in a greased
tin and sprinkle some chocolate chips on top. Bake in a preheated oven at
180 degrees for 25 min.

Bolt from the Blue
I salute the year 2020, for making us realise, that each one of us seems to have
unlimited treats of time. I too had to settle with the new normal. I had all the love of
all dear ones. I had a good time at home, but missed opportunity of meeting friends,
teachers, relatives, people, throughout. But being sensitive to the times we all have
started enjoying every bit of it in spite of all odds. I met all challenges at personal level,
but worked with hope and optimism. I have been living hopefully, living happily but
still satiate myself, mostly by hard work. We as a family have spent enormous time
together successfully; I have gained good skills in cookery. I have been missing seeing
and meeting people.
Lockdown of the world has meddled with mental, physical, and emotional nobility of
living beings of the planet. I also got upset in the beginning, however time is the best
healer. There are many good aspects of this lock down, like enjoying the luxury of
eating breakfast while attending virtual classes, yawning and listening to my
teammates and teachers.
Going on with each day as it unfolds to a new dawn, for the sun to rise gently upon the
universe, and life prospers smiling and rocking again.

Poem – Wonderland
It was just yesterday that I was sitting in a diner
With my apron on and customers yelling for their food
Before the perfect storm would emerge, with skills finer
And I’d blindly chase it, encouraged by jealousy and oblivion.
I took a wrong step, wanted the spotlight on me
And fell down a rabbithole into a queer realm.
A place where magic was common.
A land that never failed to overwhelm.
But I fit in better than a chameleon when a predator at bay
Cut a piece of me to fit the glass slipper, and all they saw were the scars.
They ripped apart the dress I’d sewn that fit so naturally that day
Forcing me to wear whatever my godmother gave.
The very one who gave me the dress,
Cursed it to fade when the clock strikes midnight
Because I refused to have her name tattooed on me.
I kept waiting in vain for my armour-clad knight.
Then they offered me magic,
Knowing it’d drive me mad. Wanting it to.
As my ego inflates and reality twists,
I see the leaves on my head as a crown.
They say I should be grateful to be in wonderland.
But is it really wonderland if I had to stain my hands with blood to get there?
(Writer’s Note: This is a poem about fame from the point of view of a celebrity,
with fairytale themed imagery reminiscent of the “perfect” life we believe them to
lead.)

What Role Does Journaling Play in Our Life?
The moment we think of journals; our mind thinks of a princess in a fairy tale
who writes down what happens everyday in her little journal. Some might say it
all seems a little kiddish. Some might ask, “what role does journaling even play
in our lives?”
Journaling is a beautiful thing. It is a non- judgmental, safe, happy place. It’s a
place where you can confess your fears and feelings without ever feeling scared.
Most importantly, it feels amazing when you write down all those thoughts and
feelings out of your head and down on paper. It feels like you’ve been seeing the
world through a broken, blurry and foggy glass for so long. Then, when your
thoughts are clearly presented before you, it suddenly becomes clear and
clean. Maybe years later, one day, you’ll find your journal, buried somewhere
beneath your mattress. You open it and read, and understand who you were
before and how much you’ve grown, and what a wonderful person you’ve
become.
Journaling also has a lot of benefits. For example, one of the ways to deal with
any overwhelming emotion is to find a healthy way to express yourself. It can
help you manage anxiety, reduce stress, and cope with depression. It helps you
prioritize problems, fears, and concerns and provides an opportunity for positive
self-talk and identifying negative thoughts and behaviors. Journaling is done in
many forms. You can keep an art journal, or a daily journal where you record the
events of the day which you are thankful for. You can also write about what you
like, the food you like to eat, the people you like to talk to, the places you
would like to go, the movies you want to watch, the songs you love, anything and
everything.
As you can see, journaling benefits you in so many ways. So, set aside a few
minutes every day, just a few pages. Try writing about what you’re grateful for,
and what things you hold close to your heart. You’ll feel that everything will
be okay because it will! There might be moments when you feel like you
shouldn’t continue keeping a journal but trust me, life is better with a
journal! Those pages might become your best friend. I promise, you won’t ever
regret writing a journal. Infact, you’ll be really grateful and happy that you
started it in the first place.

Poem Wonder- RJ Palacio
I know I’m an ordinary kid
I feel quite ordinary inside
But the only reason I’m not
Is because no one else sees me that way
I try to ignore
The faces people make
But when you’ve got one like mine
It’s hard to not do a double-take
If I had a magic lamp
I think you know what me
wish would be about
But how can I blend in,
When I was born to stand out?
Then, there was a day
When people looked past my face
And saw me, for who I am
I knew, I finally found my place
Friendship is a small
But marvelous thing
It made me smile despite my differences
And changed me as a human being
So, as I walked home with my friends
On graduation day
I felt more ordinary than ever, because they
Finally saw me that way
We all deserve a standing ovation
At least once in our life
Because we’ve all fought a battle
We’ve all won a fight
