Student Magazine for the

I heard glass shatter on the floor. I went out for what I had expected. And it
was true. Manasvi was standing a few feet away from the mess, trying not to
smile.

“Go wear your slippers,” I told her.

She turned and left through the door.  By this time, I had a broom and a dust
picker.

She came back and said, “Thanks for cleaning, maid!” and I have resented her
since.

The New Girl in Class!

I remember the day I left Oakridge School to come to The Shriram Universal
School, the happy school.

I wasn’t so sure I was going to be as happy as the school. It was the hardest
thing to say good bye to my old school which had taught me to read. But
I knew deep down that I was going to make new friends and I was really
excited about my future. At the first glance of the school, I felt that I
belonged here. I walked up to my class with sweaty palms and racing heart. I
saw all my classmates talking to each other and laughing. I knew for
sure that this was the happiest class. But deep down in my mind I had a
question, “Would I fit in and make friends or stay as the new girl in class?”

As soon as I walked in with my wobbly legs, the teacher greeted me in the
nicest way possible. She introduced herself and then introduced me to the class.
I was so nervous that I had butterflies in my stomach. Everyone was so excited
to meet me and all the girls asked me to sit beside them. They started talking
to me like I was their friend from childhood. At that moment I found the
answer to my two questions. I was going to be twice as happy as I had been in
Oakridge and that I would fit in well, very well indeed!

My First Day of New School

Today was the day when I would finally go to my new school. I was excited
but also shy. As soon as I entered the school, I had a new feeling. It was around
8:00 am when I reached the school and I met new people. I sat beside a person

101 |Shri Darpan

named Prabhav. He was also new to that school. We both talked
and shared information about each other and soon became
friends. Prabhav was a very good friend. Then our teacher arrived in the class.
Her name was Geetanjali mam. She was very kind. I started
becoming comfortable. We then had PE class and we got to choose one from 4
sports and I chose cricket. After that class, I had lots of fun and then it was
lunch break and it was my favorite food. At lastwhen we had to go home, I was
going in a bus and made few more friends.

I loved my first day in the new school!

My Journey at TSUSH

When my parents told me that I had to change my school, my heart was
thumping against my ribcage like a criminal behind bars. However, I was also
excited when my parents told me that the school was totally new, and had not
even opened yet. Everyone would be new to everyone, the teachers, students,
helpers, building, everything.

It was an excitement to know that there was a grand fair that would be going
on, as well as school tours to get to know the place better. I loved the half-open
corridors, the reception, the airy classrooms, the grassy gardens, the cool
buses.
My first day of school was a blast! I was a bit nervous when I clambered into
the bus, but I relaxed a bit when I saw the teacher, who gave us the tour, climb
in. I met her daughter who is now one of my best friends. It was really fun to
get to know everyone.

Our teachers were really nice as well. I still remember how I chatted with a
newly-found friend during the Maths class! The bus ride back home was also
fun, and I shared my sandwich with a friend. It was an enjoyable day.

I am now in my fourth year in The Shri Ram Universal School. It has been
such a lovely journey. Now, if a new student joins our class, I greet him or her
with open arms.

The Hike in the Woods!

Today I felt as fresh as a daisy. It felt like I had woken up from a long
hibernation. Finally, the day had come when my family and I were going on a
hike in the woods; but first we had to get prepared and pack our bags. We got
into the car and buckled up, and we set off to have the best day of our lives.

It was a short distance to travel on wheels, but it seemed like decades to get
there, and there I was at the core of the woods ready to get lost like little red
riding hood. The sun said a warm ‘hello’ to the flowers in the forest and told
the moon to take a nap. And I went off to tackle the adventure that I had
been planning for a whole month. The first thing I saw was ducks splattering
in the calm lake which was crystal clear. As I went ahead, I saw a log above a
small stream and I walked across it imagining that I would look as elegant as
a swan but turned out that I was as dirty as a pig. Thankfully I found a
waterfall that was tumbling down the mountain; it was showering onto the
rocks beneath giving them a soft bath.  The plants seemed happy to be there
and so did I. I cleaned myself and found my way back to the car. It had seemed
as if it was only a few minutes but when I looked up the moon was like a dot
of white paint on a black canvas.  The car engine started and within seconds I
was in my room penning this down to cherish this day forever.

Nature Walk!

Today we were going on a trek on the hills of Tirumala It was the first time I
was climbing the 3550 steps on the seven hills of Tirumala. But if you want to
know what happened on that fun and frolic day then you must stick around till
the end;

The last night before the trek we stayed at a three-star hotel called Kency's.

The next morning at 4’o clock in the morning we started our trek by breaking
the coconut and lighting camphor. Before we started our trek, we were hassled
as my grand mom was missing. The only way of communication with here was
her phone but we discovered that that it was was in our bag. But we decided
not to worry and decided to trust Lord Venkateshwara with confidence we
started our trek on the hot day.  Since we were hot and thirsty, we got 10

103 |Shri Darpan

buttermilk packets. Along the way, we got to see some monuments and fun
things.

We also saw a hanuman temple mid-way and, to our relief, found my grand
mom.
We had to climb a   lot of stairs but the many shops enroute kept us
entertained.  The favourite thing I ate was raw mangoes seasoned with chilli
powder.

I thoroughly enjoyed the amazing walk up the steep steps
of Tirumala alongwith my family members.

Characters- Ant Story – A Play

Trainer Ant, Cleaner Ant
Nurse Ant

Queen Ant, Small Ant
Soldier Ant, Builder Ant
Worker Ant, Sparrow

Narrator-On a bright sunny day, an army of ants decided to move into Ruby’s

backyard. There were many ants. One was the queen ant. The other ants were
the builder ants, worker ants, soldier ants, nurse ants, small ants, trainer ants and
the cleaner ants.
Act I Scene-1
Queen ant: Builder ant please build a new anthill for us to live in.
Builder ant: I can’t build an anthill on my own. I need some help from the worker

ants.
Queen ant: The worker ants won’t help you. All ants have to do their own work

and should not interfere in each other’s work.
Builder ant: Yes, my Queen I shall do it on my own.
Queen: Very well then, you shall go.
Narrator (Aditi): As you can see here an ant does its own work.
Act I Scene-2
Narrator: In the afternoon a hungry sparrow was flying around searching for its

prey. Then it came across Ruby’s backyard where it saw the small ants training.
Trainer ant: Small ants! follow me let’s head out where there is some place for

us to train.

104 |Shri Darpan

Sparrow: Today’s lunch menu will be Ants!
Narrator: Then the sparrow flew down and tried to catch the small ants.
Soldier ant: Come inside the anthill the sparrow is coming to attack all of you!
Narrator: When the ants hurried inside, the sparrow had caught one of the small
ants.
Soldier ant: Oh, no!!
Narrator: Then the soldier ant rushed forward and bit the sparrow on the leg on
which the small ant was in.
Sparrow: Ahhhh! One of the ants bit me.
Narrator: The sparrow then left the ant and flew away.
Soldier ant: Oh no I broke my leg while I was trying to bite the sparrow’s
shaking leg.
Nurse: I can help with that injury.
Soldier ant: Thank you!!
Narrator: The nurse cured the soldier ant's injury. So, from this incident we get
to know that ants work brave and smart.
Act I Scene-3
Narrator: Finally, the builder ant finishes making the new anthill.
Builder ant: Come inside everyone let’s move into the new anthill.
Cleaner ant: Wait everyone! It is still unsanitary so first let me and the other
cleaner ants clean it before you enter
Queen ant: Good point cleaner ant! You can start your work.
Cleaner ant: Yes, my Queen.
Narrator: after the cleaning
Cleaner ant: It is now ready to move in!
Queen ant: Very good! Now let’s all move in.
Worker ant: My queen while the cleaner ants were cleaning, we went to go get
us all food to eat.
Queen: Great work! Now let’s all dine.
Narrator: During dinner the worker ants and the nurse ants had an argument.
Worker ants: “WE” brought the food so we should get the biggest share!
Nurse ants: “WE” helped cure everyone so we should get the biggest share!
Queen ant: Stop fighting all of you! Everyone gets an equal share as all of us
work hard. We ants should never fight with each other.
Narrator: So, this shows that ants never try to fight as they all have equal
distribution of work.
The End

Article on Child Labour

2021 is the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour - it’s time to
step up to our commitments and end child labour for good! India is facing a
situation where children are forced to work under adverse conditions. Due to
paid labour children abandon their studies to support their families and forgo all
wonders of childhood. During this pandemic COVID-19 the child labour has
increased and children are also facing malnutrition due to lack of food. The
leading causes of child labour in India are social inequality, lack of education and
poverty.
‘LIFE OF LITTLE ONES ARE DESTROYRD WHEN CHILD LABOUR IS
EMPLOYED’ let us all show mercy towards the poor people and help them!

My Life, My Way?

Sunday 19th July, 2020 07:05PM

Dear Diary,

Today I am feeling sad and would like to share my feelings with you. Today I
thought it is going to be a wonderful day as it is a holiday. But it was quite
opposite of what I thought. Today I thought I will wake up late, but my grand

mom always wants me to wake up early in the morning and
do surya namaskara in the morning. I don’t like to wake up early on a holiday.
She wants me to learn devotional songs and sing when everybody is around. I
don’t feel comfortable doing so. I love to do artwork but whenever I sit to do it,

my grandfather asks me to read from school books that are useful. I like to spend
a holiday lazily watching tv, waking up late. They also don’t allow me to bring
my friends into my bedroom.
I am feeling very irritated about all these things. And when I complain to my

parents even they ask me follow the instructions of my grandparents and I feel
so bored and I don’t like to follow all of these. I wanted to be myself in my life.
But I feel like so bored in Saturdays, I don’t know why?????

There is a Hero within Us All

Real heroes aren’t angels in the sky. They don’t float amidst cotton candy clouds.

Rea heroes don’t need to climb Mt. Everest, jump from planes or walk on fire to
prove strengths. Real heroes aren’t names Woods, Kobe or Cruise. They don’t
run from life in order to find peace. They know how to take responsibility for
whatever befalls them or whatever they’ve caused. I believe everyone can be a

Hero. A hero someone who restore faith in someone else, who takes
responsibility for his/her actions. Real heroes are those who dare to live larger
than what scares them. Real heroes are those who dare to enter situation full
and carrying peace with them. Real heroes are the ones who have the courage to

laugh, love and live despite anything whatsoever. It is only on dark days in
which heroes arise. Everyone can be a hero. Everyone has at least one
opportunity in life to be a hero. Whether you choose to take it up or not the
choice is yours.

Global Warming

The earth is burning. And we are the reason behind it. An unprecedented rise in
the global atmospheric temperature on earth can be termed as global warming.
The average temperature on earth has increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius since the
last decade. Global warming is not a single phenomenon; rather, a series of

interlinked events that fuel the ultimate rise in global temperatures. It has a
plethora of effects across different levels of the ecosystem. In some parts of the
world, the effect is negligible, while in others, the effect is significant. Burning of

fossil fuel and respiration by animals’ releases gases like carbon dioxide that

escapes into the atmosphere.

The heat rays reflecting from the surface of the earth get trapped in the
atmosphere because of the carbon dioxide present in it. This is known as the
‘greenhouse effect.’ It is necessary to prevent our planet from becoming a frozen

ball. But excessive carbon dioxide retains all the heat emanating from the earth’s
surface, leading to global warming. The main gases responsible for global

warming are known as greenhouse gases.

Lore of the Guardians

In a place of magic, lores, fables and tales
It is all real don’t look into the details

Fairies, Kelpies, Mermaids, Alicorns, and Trolls too
Many more I can list but let’s not pursue
Humans of elements through and through
I want one too, wait up there is a queue!

Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Darkness and light
Both Yin and Yang are the guide
Kings or Queens battles yet to come
Though a council has begun
A new era let’s see how this goes
These guardians cannot be known
Keep this secret

Forever keep the protection blanket
Collaborating is the key
Be warned of the yet to be

All elements will be combined
Their prophecy is entwined

Now let’s have fun!
Welcome to the World of the Guardians!

Let’s Explore India

Do you know about your own country? Why is it special to all of us? Indians have
the lowest meat consumption in the world. It is the largest spice producer and
exporter- 70% of world’s production. Kashmir’s home to most expensive saffron
in world- Mongra which is Rs 1,16,200 per 500g. India has
22 recognised languages and 1600 lesser known. Golden temple in Amritsar
provides meal to 50,000 people a day for free, on special occasions up to 2,00,000.
During the Kumbh Mela in 2013, 7,50,00,000 people participated and it was
visible from space. India has the largest number of post offices -1,55,015. Indian’s
Railways is the largest employer- over a million. India's culture is among the
world's oldest; it began about 4,500 years ago. It is a land of diversities where
people of different religions and cultures live in harmony. India has different
landforms- mountains, hills, rivers, forests, deserts, plateau and plains. A school
in India came up with an idea of collecting plastic waste from their students
as a fee which makes it easier for poor students to go to school and helps

108 |Shri Darpan

by reducing the amount of plastic that gets thrown away. The number of people
who travel on the Indian railways every day is equal to the population
of Australia. In Shani Shingnapur, residents don’t have doors or locks on their
houses and banks. They believe that they are protected by God. Now don’t you
agree that India’s diversity is so special?

Memoirs from my Quarantine Diary

The most memorable chapter of my life was the COVID-19 lockdown 3.0. This

was so because exactly two days after the declaration of lockdown by
our Honourable Prime Minister,
For the first time in my life, I learnt to light the stove and make tea for my
parents. It became obvious that the first time I received a lot of appreciation. This

made me confident and try and be more involved in cooking. Baking fascinated
me. In a short period of time, I was able to bake breads, cakes and cookies.
Tangled in cooking I would aften forget the instructions given to me by my

mother. This led to a serious problem after which I forgot to do things that I am
supposed to do at my age. My mother furiously told me to study for the next
academic year. First when she said this to me, a thought came to me that she was
try to intimidate me. The afternoon my books were delivered, curiosity arose

within me exclaiming that I have to study. Just a few days before my online
classes started, my parents convinced me that I should balance between both
my passions-baking and studying. I soon realized and understood about time
management. After that my family would eagerly wait to eat when I cooked once

in a while. Thanks to my parents, now I enjoy spending my time quarantined at
home during the lockdown created for our safety by the government.

Mystery Wallet

I was going home from the super market and saw a wallet on the ground. It had
a lot of money, credit cards and address proof in it. As I am a nice person, I started
looking for the owner of the wallet as I had to get it in the right hands and not
the wrong hands. After a while I couldn’t find anybody but found a police station.
I went there and asked them to keep it. They said they need to ask me few
questions. But I said that” I haven’t done anything wrong”. They said” we know
you have not done anything wrong just for the confirmation”.
Suddenly a man came up the police station and said that he has lost his wallet.
The man in the picture looked the same and I said” This is your wallet”. The man
said yes and he said “Thank you so much for my wallet”. I was very happy.

The Lost Wallet

When I was walking down the street, I thought I stepped on something and it
was a wallet. I picked it up and found a phone and address inside it, then I took
my phone and called the number, it was switched off. Guess what! The phone was
also in the wallet. I took the wallet to the address mentionedand returned it to
the person it belonged to and got lot of appreciation.

114 |Shri Darpan

If you find someone’s important things return it as soon as possible to the person
whose address and phone number is mentioned. If nothing is mentioned then give
it to the police. This is the wise thing to do and a learning for life.

Mysterious Man

On a bright Sunday morning I was walking down the street eating my favourite
ice cream. I saw a man running very fast and coming towards me. At the nick of
the time, I moved aside and my ice cream fell on my hand. I wandered why the
man was running so fast and then I saw a wallet fell down from his hand on the
way. There were 3-4 credit cards and money in it. I didn’t know what to do. Then
suddenly I found the address in it and rushed to return the wallet. I reached the
address and to my surprise I didn’t find any one there. I kept knocking at the door
for 5 minutes but there was no response. I was heading back to call for help and
then saw a police station there. I went inside and told the police all that I saw and
did and told them to return the wallet to the person it belongs to. They called the
man to the police station and when I gave the wallet to him, I saw him. He
thanked me for keeping the wallet safe. I asked him why he was running so fast
he said he was chasing a thief who would otherwise run away with his documents
he said now I understand and I went back and lived happily.

Honesty Is the Best Policy

It was a bright sunny day; I was walking on the streets of Saffron Falls. Then I
found a brown leather wallet. When I looked inside the wallet, I found money
and credit cards. I quickly rushed back home opened the computer and address
proofed the credit cards and money. I found the address and copied it to my
mobile and rushed out. I went to the given address Lavender Heights Street
No.90 Villa no.180. An old man opened the door. I showed the wallet and asked
if it belongs to him and he said yes in a deep and heavy voice. He was happy to
see the wallet and said ‘Thank you ‘in the same tone. I was grateful for returning
the wallet. Although I was never greedy about the money when I went home my
Mum said that it was a good thing that I did. Mum made my favourite cake as I
was a nice child.

Found It!

When I was going for a walk early morning, I found someone’s wallet on the
street. I looked inside the wallet there were some credit cards, address proof
documents and money in it. So, I thought to give it back. But I didn’t know whom
it belongs to. Then I thought, better to go to the police station and give them the
wallet and then they can give it to the person it belongs to. When I went to the
police station, I gave the wallet to the police officer Chaitanya. The police
interrogated me and asked me few questions about the wallet like “where
did I find it, what did you find inside” such questions! And, then they checked the
wallet there was his address and phone number. They called the person whose
wallet it was and they returned it back to him. He thanked me and the police.
Then I returned home and was very happy.

Alexander the Great

The village of Bandipur was popular for its riches and mansions. The richest man
of the village was Alexander he owned the largest mansion in the whole village.
He ran a showroom for living. He did a lot of charity like helping the needy
building schools, hospitals etc. for this he was deeply respected in the village. One
day he kept his lockers money in his wallet and slept. What happened the next
morning was unbelievable? The wallet was stolen it contained more than 2 crore
rupees! He had three servants Ram, Bal and Pal. He approached the police.
The police told him they would like to investigate so they arrived at his house
and started investigating. Alexander had a plan and explained it to the police. He
said we can fool them by saying we could give each stick and tell them the thief’s
stick will grow by an inch and I am sure the robber will cut his stick by an inch
and will be caught! The police agreed to execute it! They gave all the servants
sticks all told them whoever is lying his stick will grow by an inch. The next
day Pal was caught as he cut his stick by an inch but before getting
arrested Alexander asked why did he do it. He replied his
daughter has been diagnosed with lung cancer so he did not have money for the
operation, he had no choice. Alexander stopped the police and told them
everything and Pal was released. Pal’s daughter’s surgery was successful as
Alexander had paid for the same. Alexander forgave Pal.

The Great Time Machine

116 |Shri Darpan

In Manhattan, there were three children James, Emma and Noah. They were

sitting in Emma’s house. Emma’s mom gave snacks to the three children while

they were watching the movie Marathon of Dinosaurs. It’s almost 8 pm but the

movie marathon has to wait as all the three children needs to go home as their

mother told them to be back by 8 pm sharp. Noah asked her mom about her dad.

She said dad is very busy as he is a scientist. Its only 2014 and he has already

made the flying car.

I know what you are thinking if he can make flying car can’t he make a flying

machine…………...The time machine is the greatest achievement. He worked

day and night to make it. However, there were many mistakes in it. Sometimes it

would send people back in time and would not bring them back but he never gives

up. Finally, after 3 years he finishes it.

It’s 2017 now and the word of time machine has gone to the president. Children

now know about the time machine. James was excited to go to the future while

Noah and Emma wanted to go to the past. But Emma’s father said its just a test

Failed Dino Trip

“Doing Science Experiments are fun isn’t guys” Lilyana said. Continuing my
research Rubina had found an interesting article in the newspaper ‘Dinosaurs
existed’. Well, the article didn’t have the proper answer. From then on Robin,

Rubina and Lilyana decided to discover on how to travel through time. They
started the work and Robin found a device that can be used to communicate.
Lilyana and others continued working. All of a sudden circle instrument fell.
Without anyone of us knowing Lilyana accidentally stepped on it, and they

all came to the dinosaur world with giant eggs. Few dinosaurs were friendly and
few were dangerous with sharp teeth. Running, panting, fainting, tiring, gave us
a lesson but we still didn’t give up. Remember the circle instrument Robin said,
“We can use it to go the times when dinosaurs existed.” Good Idea” Rubina said!

While both were talking, they realised that Lilyana had disappeared. Both were
searching for her and then they saw her leg coming out of dinosaur’s mouth.
We wanted to help her but no luck. Both the children had to leave the dinosaur’s

world as it was not the place for humas. Can’t help.

walking back home and talking about how much we wanted that dress for

tomorrow’s party. When we were walking, I found a n old burnt purse and when

we looked inside, we saw 20$ and an address and I said” Hey! I know this address
let’s go and give this back”. My friend said” Let’s keep the money you 10 $ and I
will keep 10$” but then I said No Nothing doing we will return it back. We went

to the address and again asked my friend to keep the money back She said No.
Then I took out 10$ for the purse and kept my 20 $ into it and knocked the door.
Someone opened the door and I said the name which was there in the purse and
the person responded “May I help you”! I said,”I have found your purse and

wanted to give you personally”. The man started looking inside the purse and
was surprised and said,” Oh! My God the money is still in there in the purse.
Thank you so much Can you wait for a second”? He came back and gave me a
100$ note and said “Here you go”. I was surprised and then I said Thank you so

much he just smiled. I turned to my friend and said “we should always be honest
“. She didn’t say anything and just smiled and said “Now you have enough to buy
your dress and I said Oh Yeah!!
The next morning, I went to the store and came out with two bags. My friend

was surprised to see this and I handed one bag to her saying that the dress I
wanted to pick yesterday is on 50% discount so I picked two same dresses one for
you and one for me to match and wear for the party.

popular cities like Sydney, Canberra,

Melbourne. First, we toured

Sydney, my father, my

mother, my Grand father and I were

fascinated that we are visiting a

country abroad for the first time to

meet our aunt and uncle. The gorgeous

places that we visited in Sydney are the greeny Sydney cricket stadium,

the marvelous darling harbour bridge (the bridge above the glossy water) the

beauteous and exquisite opera house. It has an outstanding universal value for its

achievements in structural engineering and building technology. Finally, the

colossal Bondi beach where I swam in the water. The best part of this city was

when I sailed on a cruise in the Pacific Ocean. We had lots of fun in this city and

then we travelled to the capital city of Australia which is Canberra. It took 7

hours to reach the place, the only important place we visited in Canberra was the

Parliament (Australian government). Later we travelled to another splendid place

called Melbourne. The places that we visited in Melbourne were the huge

Melbourne cricket ground, the sea aquarium (the place where all the aquatic
animals were swimming in the water). Food which I relished the most was the
delicious Australian Pizza. At last, we had to return home. We thanked
our aunt and uncle and our heart filled with emotions while leaving. I had no
words to describe the staggering place!! This is the best place I ever visited, my
best tour experience I ever had and the most memorable trip.

Black Holes

A black hole (Singularity) is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong
that nothing/ no particles or even electromagnetic radiation such as light—can
escape from it. The theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently
compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole.
Black holes are born when large stars collapse. When it collapses, it makes a tiny
black hole, which keeps devouring objects, and eventually can become 100 times
bigger than our sun.
The outer limits of a black hole, from which nothing can escape, is called
the ‘Event Horizon’. There are certain changes that take place to an object inside
a black hole. For example, a human inside a black hole would die instantly,
because the pressure makes the human stretch, like a noodle. One more thing is
that inside a black hole, the time changes. The time moves backwards.
A black hole is basically a hole in the fabric of space that acts as a vacuum. The
speeds that a black hole can spin at, are incredibly fast. So fast, that not even light
can escape. A black hole the size of a big one, can devour anything that is at
least 1000 light years away.
There are also types of black holes that are called ‘Supermassive Black Holes’.
These black holes, as the name suggests, are massive, and can be 100 times the
size of a normal black hole! Supermassive black holes are thought to be in the
centre of every galaxy.
A normal black hole can live for around a few billion years, whereas, the ones
that merge with other ones, can live for 7 billion years!

Travel Diaries

During the mid – term
break of 2019, we as a
family were deciding on
a holiday destination.
Around the same time
my father, who is an
investment banker, had
to travel to New York
on a work assignment.
We decided to merge
his business travel with a week of vacation time
post his work assignment. Finally, it was decided
that we as a family will be heading to New York to
spend the mid – term break. After we reached New York, we took a tour of the
city on a hop on – hop off. Then we visited the American Museum of Natural
History. It was filled with artifacts, fossils, etc. and was just amazing! Later we
were headed to the charging bull and it was packed! It had a huge rush.
Everybody wanted to see the charging bull! Then we visited world trade centre
memorial (The Twin Towers) to pay our respect to the people who lost their lives
during the 9/11 tragedy. New York has the world’s most diverse cuisine. Our
trip to New York was really amazing and the current year’s lockdown due to the
pandemic has taught me to appreciate everything I have in my life.

Madhapur Streets, Hyderabad

In the streets of Madhapur, where there was so much happiness, fun and
cherishment. Everyone was busy doing their things, the potter was making
brand new pots while the chef was cooking meals which the other people could
eat in those pots. Everyone lived in small houses but with a large amount of
happiness. But when you went deep into the streets of this joyful city, you
would be taken into a very majestic place. With trees planted, flowers blooming,
and a large mansion, owned by a rich man, called Shankaram. He was a very
rich man, with servants at his service all the time. He had lots of money and
stored them in different stacks, purses and bags, and even kept a record of them.
He trusted all of his servants with his money, but he always doubted this one
servant, Mukhmad. He had always been that one suspicious servant of

120 |Shri Darpan

Shankaram. One night, the rich man was preparing to sleep early because he had
to go somewhere. So he packed that money in a sack. He kept that sack in his
drawer which was beside his bed. He then went to sleep. It was then the next
day. He woke up happily and told his servants to get clothes ready for him. He
got all ready and checked his drawer to get his sack of money… The sack wasn’t
there. Shankaram panicked. Shankaram had decided to file a complaint in the
police station. The police told him to check up on his servants and other people
in the mansion. Shankaram did as he was told to. The police also gave him a
plan. A very wise plan. He told him that the servants will be given a stick of the
same size. The servants will then be told that the stick will of the thief will be
grown by one inch.. It was then night. The servants kept their respective sticks
beside them and slept. Except one Mukmad. He was scared since they were told
that the thief’s stick would be grown by one inch the next morning. He decided
to cut his stick by one inch. He thought it would be good enough since he didn't
know that he was a suspicious person for Shankaram. It was the next morning.
All the servants were called. Their sticks were being checked. When it was
Mukhmad’s turn, he gave it too. All the sticks were collected and placed in a
line. He at once noticed that Mukhmad’s stick was shorter. He
actually had doubt that Mukhmad stole his money but he wasn’t sure. After
noticing his one inch shorter stick, he told his servants to call Mukhmad.
Shankaram told him that he knows that he stole his money. Mukhmad became
anxious and started sweating. But after his realization, he accepted it and
decided to return the money. Shankaram was pleased that he accepted his
behaviour and decided not to fire him. Mukhmad was never doubted again.

Strange Matter

In the acknowledgement to the coronavirus, the skies have cleared up and the
pollution has cleared out so now we can see space in all its glory better than we
ever have before. So, in respect to space, we should know about one of its main
factors strange matter.
Strange matter is exactly what its name suggests it has very strange properties
and it is only found inside the cores of neutron stars and as for those of you who
don't know what a neutron star is, let me explain, a neutron star is basically a star
in its final stages.

When its core collapses against gravity it becomes a black hole but when the
core wins over gravity it becomes a neutron star so that's how neutron stars
are formed. Strange matter consumes everything and anything it touches but
that's very unlikely because strange matter only leaks out into space when, two
neutron stars collide and when strange matter leaks out into space it is then called
“strangelets”.
If a strangelets were to touch earth, then earth would completely be turned into
strange matter because strange matter is the most stable form of matter and
everything it touches is impressed by its brilliance that it also converts into
strange matter and if a strangelets were to touch the sun then the sun would also
be turned into strange matter and then would become a strange star.
Whenever a material gets converted into strange matter it often reduces in size
the longest and biggest strangelet in space won't be bigger than a rocket as you
can see space is interesting and fascinating as well as dangerous and consuming.

Beauty is in the Mind of the Beholder

Beauty is the combination of inner and outer beauty.
Inner beauty is about how we will see other people good or bad and have respect
or are loyal or not
Outer beauty is about physical appearance like dress, somethings they possess
and carry with them.
If the people have inner beauty, it is best and if they have outer beauty and no
inner beauty then no one will like and respect them.

will capture a thing which is likely to him. That can

The Magic Sticks

There was a village called Kanchipuram, which was greatly known for it’s clever
administrative. Everyone in this village were very happy and peaceful.
A rich businessman Prakash Chawla lived here who owned many land and
property. He was a wise and intelligent man. Mr Chawla had many servants and
a big mansion. He owned a purse filled with a lot of money.

123 |Shri Darpan

Once Mr. Chawla wanted to go out to buy some sweets for his wife and children.
He grabbed his purse and as he walked to the front door, his phone rang. Mr.
Chawla’s assistant had called him to inform him about an emergency meeting.
Mr. Chawla left his purse on his desk, and headed to the meeting
destination. After 2 hours, Mr. Chawla returned home, rested for a while and
decided to buy sweets now, as he was free. But it turned out, his purse was
missing!
Mr. Chawla checked the CCTV but no one had entered the house. He figured it
must have been one of his servants. He decided to go to the Police Station and
filed a case, informing the officers about what happened, what he thought might
of happened etc.
The inspector understood the situation and called in 3 servants, the inspector
pulled out 3 sticks from his desk and handed each of them to the servants that
these are magical sticks from Kurnool Market. These sticks have the capability
to reveal the truth. They were told that the thief’s stick will grow by an
inch overnight. After the inspector conveyed this information, he sent them back
home.
The thief couldn’t sleep all night, as he was worried about the stick. Then he got
an idea! If he cuts the stick by an inch, the police wouldn’t notice the growth.
With this though, he cut his stick and happily went to sleep.
Next morning, all the servants walked to the police station along with their
sticks. The inspector collected sticks from the servants. When he saw the thief’s
stick, he chuckled lightly and patted the thief’s shoulder. The inspector told him
that these were not magic sticks, just ordinary sticks to test their loyalty. Then,
the thief dropped his head with shame, slowly pulled out the purse from his pocket
and handed it to the officer. The inspector told all of them once again, “Never lie,
the truth will always be revealed when the time comes.”

What Beauty Means to Me?

Beauty in Everything:

As anything can be beautiful to some people,
while to others it is not. A simple white table can be
beautiful to someone but to others not really. It is only a
person who can to be beautiful. It can also be the nature.
The beautiful trees and the lovely buzzing bees can be
beautiful too. In my opinion beauty is that when a person
who has a good heart. It is not only the looks; it is also the
inner beauty.

Beauty in Kindness:

Beauty means to have a kind heart and having confidence in yourself.

about you it matters what you think.

Inner means beauty inside us
Outer beauty can be expressed as beauty which we can see- appearance, dress.

beauty. Beauty is not seen but can be heard or felt.

Quarantine Diaries

As everyone in this quarantine are facing lockdown because of the COVID-19,
Here I am sharing how my day starts and ends.
Initially, I felt very bored, impatient and dull because of not stepping out a who
sweats maximum as I am an outdoor guy who sweats maximum at the
parks/courts. I used to play with my friends regularly but now because of fear of
virus spread not possible (being outdoor). Then one day My mom told me that
why don’t I learn new things in lockdown. So, I started learning new things. Now
my day starts with yoga which boosts my system. I started reading story books,
and reading them out to my younger brother. We started playing indoor games,
helping mom in daily chores and also tried my hands on drawing, painting and
crafting which I never tried before and started talking to my friends online using
the Zoom platform. My day would end by reading a bedtime story to my younger
brother and the family which was great fun.

Nurturing My Artistic Skills

The corona virus has taken over the world. The world is afraid of COVID-19. In
this quarantine there are many moments that I can share. I learnt how to cook all
the basic stuff. I hated cooking earlier but now I love cooking. My mother used to
make burgers which are so good. I tried to make the burger by experimenting
and adding all the stuffs that a sandwich would have and it turned out to be much
better than my mother’s.
I am good at drawing but not good at colouring and painting. I practiced a lot
and now I am amazing at Art. I learnt how to make gradients and how to shade
and mix oil pastels. I am good at pencil shading. I played carroms with my family.
It has been so long that we have played carroms. I also spent more time with my
family, made crafts, learned how to sanitise my hands which is very important

126 |Shri Darpan

and was very happy with all the things that I learnt in this quarantine. I made
this quarantine of some use and learnt all the new things that I thought I would
never learn. I wish to go outside again and hope that the CIVID-19 will end soon.

Galaxies

Today one of the biggest challenges for space agencies and scientists is to find
out how galaxies were formed.
The first galaxies were identified in the 17th Century by the French
astronomer Charles Messier, who was a keen observer of comets, spotted a
number of other fuzzy objects in the sky which he knew were not comets, at that
time the sky was so clear that Messier could see stars and comets, all with his
naked eyes. Later when he started checking with a very powerful telescope, he
saw lots of swirling gases and what were they? You guessed it, Galaxies.
A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar
systems, all held together by gravity
Here are a few fun facts:
The galaxy-formation process has not stopped. Our universe continues to evolve.
Small galaxies are frequently gobbled up by larger ones. The Milky Way may
contain the remains of several smaller galaxies that it has swallowed during its
long lifetime.
Galaxy mergers happen fairly often. A large portion of the bright galaxies that
we see today may have formed from the mergers of two or more smaller galaxies.
Galaxies are very massive, too, so their gravity is strong. When you crowd them
together, the attraction can be so strong that two galaxies latch on to each other
and don't let go.

Article on Cosmic Microwave Radiation

The beginning of the universe started around 13.8 billion years ago, except that
it isn’t that simple. A man lived in space, and according to the results, he aged
faster than his twin, brother, who were the same age at first, but then the man
who lived in space aged faster and became older than his twin. Results show that
if, if you lived 140 years in space, if you survived that long, you would age one
second more on space than on earth.
If you were to calculate the age of the universe in a place at least a few thousand
light-years away, which means the time it takes for light to travel at the speed of

127 |Shri Darpan

299,792.458 km per second, the time the universe was born would be a different

than where we are…
The big bang was a mighty explosion at the beginning of the universe which
created our universe. But most cosmologists agree on one thing, the universe

started with a big boom. The universe was born with the Big Bang as an

unimaginably hot, dense point. When the universe was just 10-34 of a second or so

old — that is, a hundredth of a billionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second
in age — it experienced an incredible burst of expansion known as inflation, in
which space itself expanded faster than the speed of light. The work that goes

into understanding the expanding universe comes from a combination of
theoretical physics and direct observations by astronomers. However, in some
cases astronomers have not been able to see direct evidence — such as the case of
gravitational waves associated with the cosmic microwave background, also

called Hawking Radiation, the leftover radiation from the Big Bang. A
preliminary announcement about finding these waves in 2014 was quickly
retracted, after astronomers found the signal detected could be explained by dust
in the Milky Way.

Most stars take millions of years to die. When a star like the Sun has burned all
of its hydrogen fuel, it expands to become a red giant. This may be millions of
kilometres across - big enough to swallow the planets Mercury and Venus.

Zombie Apocalypse

One day, there were two girls, Alice and Steph. Where they went to a
corner store. When they went to get some chips and ice-cream, they also
decided to get vegetables for their mums. When they went to the
counter to bill there was no one, so they got scared. When they checked,
there was some noise, they tried and checked what is outside there were
a lot of zombies. They got scared so they tried to fight all these zombies
but they got out. They went home, as their fathers were scientists, they
started innovating some baits for the zombies and how to catch it. They
tried day and night to innovate everything, and they succeeded as they
were heading north, there was a graveyard were there was some noise
to which all the zombies were attracted. They tried to go check that
place, but there a few ghosts in the entrance. They tried to fight them
and got in.

129 |Shri Darpan

When they saw who it was it was a monster who was telling a mantra
to bring the zombie king to life. They saw everything, the next day they
were ready to take down the monster, but zombie king was attacking
the whole town.

The zombie king went all over the town to finish it to make it a full
zombie kingdom. The girls, Alice and Steph fought the zombie king but
not lived long enough. They tried to live but tried hard, they told
themselves “No matter what happens whether we die r whether we live
the zombie king never lives”. The zombie king did not live. They were
extremely happy that they fought the zombie king on their own. But
what happened later was unexpected.

King Chandra’s Only Dress

Once upon a time, there was to be a powerful king who ruled the
kingdom of Patanagar named Chandra. He was a
handsome and kind a king. He always followed the path of Dharma. But
he had a bad quality that only some people knew about. He never used
to wear a dress that he wore once, but he never wanted anybody to know
as he was known to be a great ruler and he didn’t want to lose that title.
The only ones who know this is his parents, the chief minister and the
royal tailor. Now that the royal tailor is dead, he wanted an honest
person to stitch his clothes. So he made an announcement, “Whoever
fills a bag with words, and present ten dresses to me that seems the same
but is different and that only I can recognize shall receive a special job.”
And came hundreds of people into his court to show their intelligence.
One of them was Paaru. He was an intelligent yet kind person.
Soon Paaru’ s turn came, he went in. The king was seated on a large
throne far away from him. He clapped his hands twice and in came a
soldier. He carried a bag in his hands. But Paaru refused to do anything.
When the king asked, "Why?” “ I want a bag without any holes so that
the words don’t escape,” came the reply. “Ok”, the king said. Soon came
hundreds of bags, but nothing impressed him. The king got frustrated

130 |Shri Darpan

and said,” Ok, just give ten dresses that seem the same.” “Of course, Your
Majesty,” he replied. Soon he brought ten dresses to the king. The king
examined them for a while and said, “I cannot see any difference in these
dresses.” Paaru said, “Oh! But there is your highness, you see, in this one
there is nothing, while in this one there is an Om, in this one there
is Trishul, in this there is Goddess Saraswati, this one there is
a…” “Stop, Stop! I realized my mistake, thanks to you,” the king
replied. I shall accept your bag of dress and reward you. Great job! It’s
highly appreciated.

A Memorable Chapter from my Quarantine Diary

“Life is what happened to you when you are busy making plans”. Is this
what we expect from 2020? Who would have thought of being confined
at home for so long? Now, this is the reality. It started from Wuhan
(China) and now it has spread all over the world, the deadly Coronavirus
pandemic.
But there is always a silver lining as to how nature is rejuvenating itself
as well as families are spending quality time together. My memories
from my lockdown diary are:
On 22 March Mr. Modi declared a Janta Curfew and on that very same
day, he also appealed to everyone to come out of their balconies at 5 p.m.
and clap, ring bells, blow conch shells, and clang dishes for 5 minutes. I
questioned myself, is it going to happen? But I was overwhelmed with
the response from all youngers to elders, common people to VIP’s.
Everyone was enjoying that, and it kept going on even after 5 minutes.
It felt so energetic.
Then again Mr. Modi addressed Indians to darken their houses and
lighten their balconies or any open area of the house, with at least one
Diya for 9 minutes at 9 p.m.  on 5th April. I was astonished after seeing
the mesmerizing view outside. There were more diyas and candles that
lightened what we usually see in Diwali. At the same time, it was so
soulful listening to the enchanted song “Shubham karoti kalyanam”.
There was unity in diversity without any religious prejudice.

A Virus, A Threat and an Opportunity…

When COVID-19, The global pandemic, was announced. People were
shut down in their house, unsure what to do. Even I felt the same. Then
an idea struck me, I wanted to create a solution for COVID-19. As the
weeks followed, I tried and tried to find a platform, that could help me
organize and take my dream forward. Then, on the last day of 5th grade,
while joining a class, my eye fell on an ad. The ad said ‘Hack the crisis
India’. Immediately, I copied the link, and pasted it into my browser after
my class. I waited for the site to load… and once it did, my eyes were
met with a surprise! The website said: Have an idea that you want to
take forward to stop COVID-19? Join Hack the Crisis India, to take
those ideas to the next stage! I applied for the event immediately! It said
to fill out a form, with your idea, idea’s name, email etc. I filled out all of
those, and then the site told me ‘You will get an email from the judges,
stating that you got into the top 300’. I thought ‘Oh, I’m definitely not
getting that email’. Then, I got the email, and continued going in more
hackathons, about 15. One of the most memorable were: The Global
Hack and World Hackathon Day, in both I had an interview taken on
me and my ideas, among people who were usually certified with a degree
in programming. I feel that everyone has and idea, but, only a few,
choose to take it forward.

A Tale of Two Frogs One fine
morning, Mendak and Dadur the frogs
were going to the pond to catch some

going through a dairy farmer’s house.
They reached a room with an open
window and tried to climb up to it. But
alas! They slipped and fell into a churn of
milk! They tried to scale the walls of the
churn but they were way too slippery.
They tried to hop out of the churn, but there was no solid surface to
hop from. Now, there seemed to be no escape. Mendak said, “Oh! I
can’t jump anymore. I don’t think we can get out of here.” Dadur,
however kept jumping around and his movements churned the milk
into butter. He climbed out of the churn happily. He turned to

the spirit to continue, he could have been here with me.”

A Memorable Chapter from My Quarantine Diary

The memorable day that I’m going to talk about is Mother’s Day. I've selected
this day as it is one of the significant days in my family’s quarantine life. Let me
begin. On Mother’s Day morning, I woke up at 6.30 a.m. and cleaned up all the
rooms except the one that my parents were sleeping in, as my mom can never
stand seeing a mess. I tried to wake dad up, to seek help, but he was really tired, so
I let him sleep for a brief period. I started putting up some decoration and tried
waking up my dad again. He woke up and helped me decorate more. Later we
made some tea . After everything was done, we barged into mom’s room and
yelled, “ Happy Mother’s Day”. She was pleasantly surprised and thanked us for
planning such a great surprise. We went ahead with household chores and
forbade mom from helping us. After cooking, we had lunch and played one or two
games and watched a movie. Overall, Mother’s Day is one of the best ways to

express family togetherness. It also tells us that having a mom is one of the
greatest gifts ever.

The Myth about the Corona Virus

Once upon a time, there was a harmless germ called. It was a dear friend of the
earth and took care of the earth. One day, the humans who earth called them
as her babies, polluted the earth, cut down her trees, dumped waste on
the road etc. This made earth weak. Corona was very sad because he couldn’t see
his friend like that. “Hey I know how to teach these
thoughtless humans” said Corona to earth and completely transformed himself
into a different organism and thought to name himself as ‘Corona Virus’ He then
went to the earth’s surface and spread the harmful germs which couldn’t hurt
earth but only the humans. Days passed and even the smallest alley got infected.
The earth thanked Corona for his help and said, ‘Wish the humans are like this -
not polluting me, not cutting my trees and dumping waste’. All the people are in
their homes scared to come out of their houses, fearing the virus. The birds are
singing peacefully without hunters harming and injuring them and animals living
peacefully in their habitats.’ After many months, the humans found hope in the
form of the vaccine and learnt their lesson.

One day, a trader called Arjun met the king. He gave a fruit to the king and an

The King went in search of Betal. The Betal came up on the king’s shoulder and
said that it would narrate a story and ask a question to the king. If he answers
wrong, it will kill the king. I he breaks his silence; it would go back to the

Once there was a kingdom named Krishkinta and a king named Vrita lived there

the guard of the king and Gopal was a trader. One day the prince was walking in

the king rewarded Gopal alone. King Vikram replied that saving the prince’s life
was Bansi’s duty, but Gopal need not have. The Betal agreed to his answer and
flew back to the pine tree.

An Alien Spaceship in the Backyard

I was just coming home from school when the whole thing started. I was in a
cheerful mood as the exams were over and school was more or less over with the
summer holidays coming, because there were no more exams coming to keep us
kids trying to learn. That’s when I saw an alien spaceship in my friend’s
backyard. My first thought was – That’s not very normal… You may ask how
I determined it was an alien spaceship. Well, the bumper sticker in front of the
vehicle saying “we are aliens to you though you are aliens to us” was a bit of a
giveaway, along with the fact it looked a lot like a flying saucer, which is a vehicle
used often by aliens (or so I am told). I stood gaping at the monstrous machine in
front of me, which is not very surprising considering the circumstances.
Anyways, my friend jumped out of the thing and said “I stole this spaceship!” with
a grin. “Want to try it out?” I was dumbfounded. I had a thousand questions, but
I asked him just two out of those. I asked him how he did it and why. He replied,
“I just saw the aliens coming out of the thing, so I just jumped in and read the
manual on how to fly it. As for why I did it, why shouldn’t I?” I could answer that
question very easily, and I did, but he didn’t listen and dragged me into the
machine. I gave up on that point and let him start it up. It soon started flying,
but I guess he pressed the wrong button and a message appeared saying:
UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS. INITIATING SELF DESTRUCT. He blinked
and said “Well, that would be awkward” just before the spaceship exploded.

How We Celebrated My Father’s Birthday?

Nothing very interesting happened in my quarantine days, but on one day,
something special happened. Actually, this is about a memorable week and not
really a day.

137 |Shri Darpan

It was a normal summer morning, but it wasn’t hot outside, not cold either. I was
surprised at the weather. The next day, it was my father’s birthday. My mom
made a cake for him and his friends and relatives made videos for him. My mom
also had planned that for my father. I went to the balcony and felt a warm faint
breeze at night.
After two days, it was my friend’s birthday. I wished him on his birthday and we

How I Honed My Skills During Lockdown:

As hard and stressful the lockdown was for everybody, for me it was fairly good.
At first glance, the lockdown was like the world witnessing a moribund. I used
to be very moody and I felt like somebody hit the pause button to this world. My
parents were immensely strict that I should not go to the park. After two weeks
of lockdown, I was bored of the monotonous routine. Another colourless and
lifeless week passed. My friends created a WhatsApp group and added me in. I
was just so ecstatic. We literally used to talk every day. Some joyful
weeks passed and we got bored of talking we had just no topic to talk upon. I had
started drawing and everybody were awestruck seeing my drawings. However,
my old hobby origami took over my drawing. I was so obsessed with it that every
day I used to waste at least five sheets of paper. Fortunately, my parents did not
criticize me for anything and they wanted me to take it forward. The problem
was that my grandparents always disagreed with my parents they used to say “he
has a total monomania for origami.” This still happens now. See there were many
disadvantages but there were some advantages to this lockdown. For example, I
got to spend some quality family time and I also discovered two new hobbies,
though the lockdown was boring at first. Eventually I realized that every chapter
of life has a lesson to offer.

-Shaurya Shingrupe VI C

New Learnings:

When the government instituted lockdown it was horrible to imagine we needed
that, but soon I got adapted to this new lifestyle. On 20thof March, our
honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi declared a nation-wide lockdown
to battle the increasing cases of COVID-19 in our country. Initially it was fun
since we had longer vacationed in which we could spend more time with our
families and do what we like, as we like it. Since reading is my passion, I had the
entire day to spend with the books that I like. Soon I had my graduation from
the primary years programme which sadly had to be conducted online. By this
time, I was sick and tired of staying at home and meeting my friends virtually felt
like a breath of fresh air. It was exciting to attend classes online as we learnt to

138 |Shri Darpan

use technology as a tool for learning. Along with my academic classes, I also
started attending my Dance, Music and Taekwondo classes. I took up new
hobbies such as blog writing and baking. All was well until the first COVID-19
case was discovered in our community. The person who was tested positive went
away from the community but a whole block went undercomplete lockdown. For
a few days, things went on as usual, but then there came another case which led
to another block being in complete quarantine. We all have to be very careful to
keep ourselves and our families safe in this unique situation and it’s not difficult
if we follow all the guidelines given by professionals. Stay home, stay safe and
stay healthy.

Lockdown Memories:

There are many memorable moments or chapters that I would be very happy
to share with you all, however if I have to pick one then I would say “Quality
Family Time”. Quarantine days have brought lot of challenges to all of us
but at the same time I felt it has also given us opportunity to connect more with
family members. My father who was always busy with his office work is now
spending more time with us at home. One hand we are not able to go out for
movies, shopping malls, sports etc. but at the same we have adopted a new style
of living at homes. We talk more, we laugh more, we eat food together, we cook
new dishes at home and I get plenty of time to play with my younger
brother. I have also learned new ways to help my Mom. I have helped her in
cleaning the house, watering plants, assisting in kitchen etc. This has given me
lot of satisfaction and helped me to learn new things. We also had
great evening time where we played carroms, chess and some new
word/memory games. Overall, I would summarize past few months as a
memorable “Quality Family Time” .....I missed school, school friends, society
friends and my cousins but when I look back I see a lot of good family time. I
hope you all had similar great moments. Thankyou!!

A memorable chapter from my quarantine diary is when I helped my parents in
cleaning and other stuff, I also learned baking from my mom she taught me how
to bake cupcakes, donuts and cakes I helped her make it in the evening I still
remember how we baked like for the donuts we made the dough out of flour,
yeast, egg, milk and salt and the glaze out of cocoa powder, flour, ghee, icing
powder and a little bit of milk. We decorated them an ate them I was tempted by

its taste it was delicious! We also made other things like pizza, pasta and French
fries! We made Indian snacks too. I would play online games with my friends and
talk to them over phone. I had a lot of fun!! I also had online classes they were
very interesting; it is fun to learn online but I prefer regular school. A little bit
about myself, most of the time I listen to music and watch funny videos. Even
though I am having fun in the lockdown I still want to go down and play with
my friends in the society. I also remember the time when me and my family
watched a movie together, I like to spend time with my family and friends it is
fun! I had a lot of fun in the quarantine and to say this year was different but a
memorable and unique one! I would never forget it in a lifetime.

Lockdown - Blessing in Disguise for Nature

It’s been two weeks now that we all are under lockdown, for the action against
Covid-19. It was a bolt out of the blue for me and my family, friends and also, I
think for everyone in my country. I had started feeling that something is missing
from my life, every day when I woke up, I miss the park view, children giggling
and playing in my community. All of that was gone and the things only left were
the memories.
But during this period, I can see various types of birds, would hear birds chirping
in my balcony and in the park. I can see crystal clear sky. All trees appear to
be fresh and happily moving with the breeze. very less dust around. I was
feeling very close to the nature. I recognized sound in this silence. Even in pick
summer, the intensity of heat is less. Almost everyday evening there is
thunderstorm. Fast life came to a stop. Life is slow now and we are learning to
live a life with minimum things. We are able to realize the peace and solace.
Nature taught us an important lesson in this period. That materialistic gain is not
all, we are bound to face the pain due to excess use of nature, our source of life.

My New Assitant - Alexa

Would I want Alexa to do my homework?
I think Alexa should not do our homework because if it does, we will not use our
brain and we all will become lazy. I’m not saying that we should struggle with
our homework. We can take help from Alexa for small things like to remind us
to do our homework or to give ideas for our homework, such as how to design

the borders etc. We should never misuse the technology and its support available
to us.

My Mom

My mom is my favourite family member. She has soft hair and very beautiful eyes.
She cooks very well. She is a very nice person. She loves me a lot. She takes care
of me better than anyone else in my family. She is a veterinary doctor. She gets
me whatever I ask for. I love my mom very much.

Satisfaction

Satisfaction is my favourite abstract noun. Having good food, singing, dancing
and good sleep, staying with my family are the things that give me satisfaction.
Singing and dancing are my passion. So, I get a lot of satisfaction doing
that. These activities make me so happy.

Solving the Mystery of Dinosaurs

On a bright sunny day in the town of Whoville, three children christened – Faith,
Josh and Flenor. The three friends had planned to go on a picnic the very day, so
they went to the park which happened to be the largest park in the state. Once
they arrived the friends decided to play truth or dare. Flenor got dared by Josh.
She had to go deep into the heart of the park. Flenor being as scared as mouse
tried to decline Josh’s bold dare. After five minutes of Josh’s
persuading, Flenor arguing to not do the dare and Faith laughing as loud as
thunder seeing the two quarrels, they finally calmed down. Suddenly, random
vines clenched the trio and was aggressively pushing them towards the middle of
the park. Soon enough they found a hidden portal. As they were wandering
around, Faith spotted a tribe of dinosaurs. Josh had run towards the creatures to

find out if they were calm . Suddenly a gigantic meteorite came crashing down.
The trio had closed their eyes and hoped for the best. Around three minutes later,
they hesitantly opened their eyes and found that they were back on their picnic
blanket in the peaceful park, where they sat bewildered.

  What is Covid- 19?

As you all know in 2020 covid-19 was a
major issue to the entire world. India
reported the first confirmed case of the
coronavirus infection on 30 January
2020 in the state of Kerala. The affected
had a travel history from Wuhan, China.
Although for most people COVID-19
causes only mild illness, it can make some people very ill. More rarely, the disease
can be fatal. Older people, and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such
as high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes) appear to be more vulnerable.

The virus is transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an
infected person (generated through coughing and sneezing). Individuals can also
be infected from and touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and touching
their face (e.g., eyes, nose, and mouth). The COVID-19 virus may survive on
surfaces for several hours, but simple disinfectants can kill it.
COVID-19 vaccination will help protect you from getting COVID-19. You may
have some side effects, which are normal signs that your body is building
protection. These side effects may affect your ability to do daily activities, but
they should go away in a few days. Swimming in a well-maintained, properly
chlorinated pool is safe. However, it is advisable to stay away from al
crowded areas including crowded swimming pools. Keep 1 metre distance from
people who We can protect our self from any type of disease like cold, cough, fever
and covid-19 by eating fruits and vegetables like lettuce, apple, grapes, tomato
etc-

How can we prevent from covid-19?

To prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand
rub.
• Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

142 |Shri Darpan

• Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.
• Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
• Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when
you cough or sneeze.
• Stay home if you feel unwell.

Lockdown Life and Learnings

So, do you know what lock down is?  It is something like getting locked in your
own house, all the shops, parks, schools, are locked and totally locked.
Everything is online, like everything for ex: for clothes there is Myntra, for
grocery's big basket and so on.

So, what happened to me during lockdown was, at the starting there were no
online classes. That’s why I used to watch a lot of television. My mom said that
why don’t you
Start making crafts with paper, origami & cardboard. And I also started making
doodle art something like this.
I made so many crafts things that finally my mom said enough "where will you
keep all the crafts??"Then I made my craft box in which I kept all my
crafts. Again, I had a problem my A4 sheets and origami was over so I asked my
dad for A4 sheets he said ok I will get it and he got a bunch of 500 A4 sheets I
loved it. I thank him and continued my journey of making crafts.

All Is Well!!

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is
untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me and pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
Somewhere very nearby,
Just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
