Why the need for non-sparking tools? Why the need for the casting process ?

T The recommendation is to use GEDORE non-sparking tools in all T In contrast to the usual steel tools, the forging process is not
areas where combustible or easily ignitable vapours, liquids and the optimum manufacturing one as far as non-sparking tools
dusts are on hand and everywhere where there is a potential fire are concerned. Whilst forged, non-sparking tools may have an
and explosion risk from sparks. elegant appearance, their drawback is one of suddenly breaking
in instances of overloading.
Characteristics of GEDORE
non-sparking tools: T Casting these materials, in contrast, results in them bending rather
than breaking when subject to overloading.
T Made either from proven, low-sparking special bronze and copper/
beryllium alloys or from other non-spark inducing materials T As cast, non-sparking spanners are of a stronger material cross-
(e.g. wood or electrically conducting plastics) section, they ensure uniform transfer of torque forces.

T The spanners are cast and not forged for your own safety. T We guarantee that GEDORE non-sparking spanners are
T Corrosion-resistant - even against salt water. manufactured from a pure melt without the addition of scrap.
T Copper/beryllium tools are anti-magnetic!
T Advantages: Improved elasticity, reduced brittleness and uniform
material properties

Info T The talk usually is of „non-sparking“ or
„anti-spark“ tools.
T The harder a material, the greater the
risk of sparks developing and explosions T From the physics angle, it would be more

sparks cannot be 100 % prevented even when
T As only a cold spark, if at all, develops, these tools are used.
the iron share in special bronze is not of a
critical nature.

T The use of non-sparking tools is a step:
- to avoid explosions
- to avoid incipient fires
- to avoid and keep away sources of ignition
(sparks forming) which might arise when
hand tools are in use (e.g. hammer and
chisel)

Notes on use

CAUTION! NON
T As in applications non-sparking tools are

not as hard as conventional ones, they must
be used with particular care.

T Any over-loading is to be avoided.

T Using non-sparking tools must not be the
only protective step taken in areas at risk
from fire and explosions.

T For a comprehensive protection of both
people and facilities, do follow the relevant
safety guidelines of the various institutions,
e.g. those of the industry associations,
employers' instructions as well as the
statutory specifications of the country in
question.

Important information

T for regrinding GEDORE copper/beryllium safety tools:
T Beryllium is a metal which according to the Materials Ordinance is considered to be toxic !
T This very much concerns dusts and vapours which may arise where smelting,

grinding and welding is undertaken.
T There is no risk, however, when grinding, in particular, is of the wet variety!
T Should this not be possible in exceptional circumstances, then the following steps

need to be noted:
1. Do not inhale any dust (wear a face mask)
2. Avoid one's skin and eyes coming into contact with them
3. Wear protective clothing
4. Wear breathing apparatus should dust and smoke develop

T Since special bronze would involve over rapid and excessive wear
of all tools with mechanical movements, cutting functions and tip
stresses (such as pliers, ratchets and adjustable spanners), they are
manufactured from the harder CuBe.

T Spanners are mostly manufactured from special bronze.

Notes on use

T The softer the tool the lower the probability of sparks forming.
Selection is at all times to be for that lowest tool hardness which
just suffices for the work on hand. This is something that through
our knowledge of tools we have already dealt for you. We use the
optimum possible material for each and every tool. Tools subject
to concentrated loads are manufactured from the harder CuBe.
The letter at the end of the Article No. stands for the material:

POWER

Dear GEDORE customers
and GEDORE tool users,
Under tough continuous applications, GEDORE tools prove their
worth as problem solvers. reliable power packs and loyal servants -
over a long service life and beyond.

The reliability, longevity and precision of our products -
and thus of your safety- can only be ensured from two parameters:

1. Proper tool care and use
Standard applications can be processed with tools from the catalogue range.
Here we are delighted to present you with our new portfolio.

Specific deployments/problems require a specially adapted
solution. This could, for instance, be a special-purpose tool
refinement, an individual surface treatment (colour and/or finish)
or bespoke tool modules.

2. Regular maintenance - as required
Although so important, maintenance intervals are often not kept to.
Whilst feeling and trust alone are good, regular checks are better.
Only through them can we guarantee the flawless working of our products -
and thus your safety.

To the extent as required, have your tools (e.g. torque tools)
inspected by our experts.
The inspection intervals are individually established
with you subject to the demands placed.

Your GEDORE tool team of experts!

Technical significance and
advantages of forging

Extensive selection of materials and heat treatment processes Fibre flow
- Optimum adaptation of the workpiece to your application
Optimum fibre flow Interrupted fibres
Inexpensive thanks to material efficiency displayed by forged displayed by machined
- Fewer materials required than by purely machining processes workpiece
thanks to close-to-contour workpiece shape workpiece

High performance
- Ideal fibre flow compared to other manufacturing processes: fibres
follow the contour, no break lines
- Positive influence on strength and toughness

Safety-relevant workpieces as forged pieces
- Drop forgings are free of pores and other cavities and have a dense and
consistent structure

Feasibility even for small series
- Optimum shaping reduces processing times from blanks to finished parts
- No need for expensive workpiece tests, e.g. for eliminating cavities

Is drop forging an environmentally-
friendly technology?

Not at first glance. We protect the environment.
Only a more detailed look reveals that drop forging is
in fact a forming process which conserves raw materi- In practice, this means
als. Compared to poured workpieces or T Motor and rail vehicles are lighter thereby reducing
workpieces manufactured from solid blocks, forged
workpieces can be dimensioned lighter and smaller the moving mass and energy consumption. This lowers
without compromising stability. CO2 emissions and is good for the environment.
T Alternative wind and hydro power are inconceivable
without forged pieces. Only forged components
are capable of withstanding the high loads on
hydroelectric and wind turbines.
T Responsible handling of steel conserves our
environment.

What else do we do for the environment?

Our modern hydraulic forging hammers conserve the
environment thanks to their design.

T Our hydraulic drop hammers require 75% less energy
than comparable air-powered hammers.

T Modern direct absorption minimises the effect of
vibrations on the surrounding area.
