INTRODUCTIONDETERMINING YOUR SKIN TYPE

There are THREE main skin types: Dry, Combination, and Oily. Skin type is determined by sebum (oil) production,
or lack thereof. The amount of sebum we produce is genetically determined by the size of our sebaceous gland,
and the gland determines the size of our follicle (pore). Sebum is responsible for keeping our skin soft and supple.
As we age, we produce less sebum, but once the follicles are enlarged, they usually remain enlarged (Photo Facials
and Microneedling treatments might reduce follicle size).

Generally, as we age, we produce less sebum, so skin becomes dryer. Hormones and medications (retinoids, andro-
gen inhibitors, contraceptives, etc.) can affect our sebum production. Some women well into their 50s and 60s con-
tinue to have oily skin due to hormonal fluctuations. Although oily skin is more likely to have blemishes, people with
combination skin and dry skin can experience blemishes during times of hormonal fluctuations (period, pregnancy,
menopause, etc.), during inappropriate skin care, and/or if they have underlying skin conditions such as rosacea.

The best way to determine skin type is to wait at least 3 hours after washing and then, with clean finger tips
touch the skin before your ears. Without lifting your fingertips, glide them towards your nose. Stop when you
feel a slight stickiness (oil). Now you know where your oil zone begins. If you do not feel any sticky feeling, you
have dry skin.

Dry skin may be more sensitive and suffer from tightness, flaking, premature lines and wrinkles. If you have oily
skin, you will have large follicles and may experience shine and acne. Keeping your skin exfoliated on the surface
and inside the follicles (salicylic acid) will be helpful. The good news is that oily skin is usually thicker and ages
more slowly. Be careful not to strip the skin by over exfoliating as that might cause your skin to produce more oil. If
you have combination skin, you can experience dry and flaky skin on outer edges of the face, with excessive oil in
the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). Products for combination skin need to exfoliate without irritating the skin.

Knowing your skin type will determine which Skin Blends products are best for you. Using the correct products will
help keep the water and oil levels in your skin balanced so it can function properly. Using incorrect products can
cause your skin’s barrier to become compromised and it will not be able to take in beneficial ingredients or rid itself
of wastes. The water content of properly hydrated skin is similar, whether the skin is dry, combination or oily. Some-
times a person with oily skin may think he/she has dry skin, when the skin is dehydrated (water dry not oil dry).
Unfortunately, if you have oily skin, using products formulated for dry skin can create bigger problems for your skin.

Skin conditions can be present in any skin type, whether dry, combination, or oily, including sensitized, acne, aging,
dehydration, irregular pigmentation, rosacea, etc. Each of these conditions can range from mild to severe and
include various subcategories. In professional skin care, we address the condition with serums that can be used
directly on the skin or mixed into skin products to further customize it to treat your specific skin conditions.

2) Gently rub eye area until all traces of make up have been removed.
3) Use a new cotton pad and repeat procedure to cleanse make up from other eye.

Tip: For stubborn waterproof eye makeup, pre-cleanse with a Lipid Synergy Serum and follow directions above.

CLEANSER

1) Apply a quarter sized amount to face, neck and chest using upward, circular massage motions, adding a
little water as needed.

2) Remove cleanser using a wet Super Soft Facial Cloth, Cleansing Sponge, or cotton pads.
3) For deeper cleansing, repeat using the Skin Blends Exfoliating Glove to loosen dead skin cells.

Tip: For dry skin, cleanse twice: first with a Dry Skin Lipid Synergy Serum and again with Cream E Cleanser.

TONER

1) After cleansing, apply a quarter size amount of toner to face, neck, and chest using a cotton pad.
2) Stroke upward on the skin. This toning step helps remove residual cleanser and balances the skin’s pH.
3) While the skin is damp, therefore more absorbent, apply Synergy Serum(s) and/or Hydrating Gel.
Age-Defying Hydrating Toner Spritzer Option
You can choose to add a sprayer to your Age-Defying Hydrating Toner (not recommended for Combo Super Fruits
Toner or the Purifying Toner as they contain salicylic acid and should not be sprayed near eyes).
Spray liberally on entire area (face, neck and chest) throughout the day to add hydration.
Age-Defying Hydrating Toner Foaming Option
You can put your Age-Defying Hydrating Toner in a Foamer Bottle and apply the foam to your skin. Hydrating Toner
will deliver immediate hydration where ever it is applied, and is perfect for dehydrated legs and arms.

VITAMIN C CRYSTALS

1) Dispense crystals onto your palm.
2) Add a pump or two of your skin appropriate Serum or Hydrating Gel.
3) Massage crystals and serum/gel mixture onto face, neck and chest until crystals dissolve.

NOTE: It’s important to use Vitamin C every morning prior to/with other treatment serums for best results. Skin
Blends also offer a 10% Vitamin C Serum, 20% Super C Serum, and a C-Plex Serum (should be refrigerated).
WARNING: Do not mix crystals with Retinol Plus or Alpha Beta X (too aggressive).

ALPHA BETA X (ABX)

1) Dispense a quarter sized amount onto palm at night after cleansing and toning.
2) Apply by massaging onto face, neck and chest, avoiding eye lid area.
3) Follow with Serums, Hydrating Gel, and Moisturizer.

Tip: You will want to use ABX and other exfoliating products at night during the body’s rest and repair cycle. Since
ABX is able to penetrate into follicle openings, it’s also helpful for preventing ingrown hairs after waxing or shaving.
ABX can be used on the whole body, especially on areas of dead skin cell build up like elbows, knees, and feet. ABX
is also a remedy for those little red bumps that some people get on the back of their arms and legs (keratosis pilaris
is the medical name for harmless yet annoying skin condition).
WARNING: If allergic to aspirin, do not use this product as it contains salicylic acid.

SCRUB Keep in shower and use as needed

1) Apply a quarter sized amount to face, neck & chest by massaging onto wet skin.
2) Rinse thoroughly to remove all scrubbing particles.

Tip: For best results, keep scrubs in your shower for easier use and removal and use on whole body. Follow
with Body Lipids and Body Moist for super soft skin all over!

LIPID SYNERGY SERUM (LSS)

• For super dry skin, apply a pump of a LSS mixed with Moisturizer at night.
• To pre-cleanse dry skin, apply 1 to 2 pumps of a LSS and follow with your regular facial cleanser. As

you remove with a Super Soft Facial Cloth, you will find your skin will be left feeling clean but even
softer and smoother than usual.

SERUMS (BOTANICAL, VITAMIN C, and SUPER SYNERGY SERUMS)

1) Dispense a pump or two of condition-targeted & skin-appropriate Serum onto palm.
2) Apply to face, neck and chest by gently massaging with fingertips.
3) When layering, which is a great technique, first apply Vitamin C Serums, followed by Super Synergy

Serums and/or Botanical Synergy Serums.
NOTE: Retinol Plus is a powerful product, so use it only at night and, in the beginning, only twice a week (we
suggest Wednesday and Sunday). Since it offers cumulative benefits, using it everyday isn’t necessary.

HYDRATING GEL

1) Morning and evening, after serums have absorbed, apply a quarter sized amount of the Hydrating
Gel by gently massaging onto face, neck and chest to seal in benefits of the Serums.

MOISTURIZER

1) Once Hydrating Gel has absorbed, apply a quarter sized amount of skin-appropriate Moisturizer onto
palm.

2) Spread Moisturizer to whole hands and apply liberally to face, neck and chest every evening by firmly
pressing onto skin (locks in hydration from serum(s) and gel).

3) Gently massage product over area to ensure entire area has been covered.
Tip: To repair dry skin, mix Recovery Gel Mask or Moisture Mask with a little moisturizer and apply before
sleeping. You’ll wake up to replenished skin and dramatically improved skin.

SUNSCREEN (SPF 30 or SPF 50)

1) After Hydrating Gel has had a chance to be absorbed in the morning, dispense a quarter sized
amount of SPF onto fingertips.

2) Spread out product by rubbing hands together.
3) Apply by FIRMLY PRESSING fingertips onto face, neck and chest. This should be done everyday to

lock in hydration from serum(s) and hydrating gel, and to protect our skin from the damaging
ultraviolet rays of the sun.
Tip: During the day, one of our skin appropriate SPFs will be sufficient moisturizer for oily skin.

CLEANSERS

Proper cleansing is the first step to achieving and maintaining
healthy skin. Cleansing removes oily residue, dead skin cells, and
waste by-products. Healthy skin requires cleansing your face at
least twice daily. Morning cleansing removes the overnight build-
up of impurities and airborne particulates.

It’s also important to thoroughly rinse away your night treatment
products, so your day treatment products can work effectively.
Cleansing skin at night removes makeup, oils, bacteria, pollens,

TONERS

Proper toning is the second step to achieving and maintaining healthy
skin. After cleansing, toners ensure you’ve properly removed all of
the remaining cleanser. Depending on the ingredients in the formula,
toners may also help balance, exfoliate, purify, or hydrate the skin!

Moist skin is more receptive to topically applied products (water is a
delivery system) so it is the ideal time to apply toners, vitamin C and

HYDRATING GEL

BASIC BLENDS Dehydrated skin causes many skin problems and worsens any existing skin condition. Dehydrated
DRY SKINskin appears dry, scaly, and flaky. It feels tight and may “crinkle” when gently pulled. A person with
oily skin may think he/she has dry skin, when the skin is actually dehydrated. Unfortunately, using
products meant for dry skin will only create bigger problems. Hydrating Gels are water-based gels
you should use twice daily to combat dehydration.

When skin becomes dehydrated, the surface cells harden, forming a thin covering over the skin,
behaving like Saran Wrap on the skin. This doesn’t allow ingredients from essential products get it,
nor let any of the skin’s natural oil secretions out. This entrapment of oils under the skin’s surface
is particularly detrimental for anyone suffering acne. Additionally, dehydrated skin is always more
sensitive, because just as the dry desert earth has cracks, dehydrated skin has tiny, invisible fissures,
or cracks that allow products to seep in and cause irritation. Many people with dry and sensitive skin
conditions have a compromised barrier. The more dehydrated a skin is the longer and harder it is to
get it back into proper hydration again (think about how the desert floods when it rains because the
earth is so dry).

BASIC BLENDSMOISTURIZERS

To maintain healthy skin, you must seal in your hydrating gel with a moisturizer. This tech-
nique works much like a greenhouse: after watering plants, one covers them with plastic to
prevent the water from evaporating. Similarly, skin loses a lot of its natural moisture through
evaporation and is particularly affected by extreme temperatures, sun exposure, wind expo-
sure, and low humidity conditions found in buildings with central heating and in airplanes.
Using harsh soaps, astringents, or medications also affects the skin’s moisture. To counter-
act these factors, the skin needs a moisturizer with the correct proportions of water and oil
to form a suitable barrier. For best results, you should apply moisturizers to skin that’s still
damp from a Hydrating Gel or Serum. Applying moisturizers to damp skin ensures the skin
can hold more water; this temporarily plumps up fine, parched lines. Moisturizers also pro-
tect your skin against environmental pollution and free radical attack, which leads to aging.

MASKS

Masking activates your “body’s self-cleansing mechanism” (AKA lymphatic system). For the
mask to work properly, you must apply it in a thick layer to prevents any exchange between
the skin and the environment. This technique creates a suffocation effect, causing the nerve
endings to send a message to the brain that says, “help.” The brain responds by directing the

hydroxy acids (AHA), while salicylic acid is a beta

BHAs dissolve the cells. The main difference

Acne is simply a genetic disease of the sebaceous hair follicle (sometimes called a
pore).
Each follicle contains a tiny hair and a sebaceous gland, which starts producing sebum
at puberty. In non-acneic skin, sebum travels up the hair follicle to the skin’s surface. In
acneic skin, the sebum gets trapped in the follicle. Enzymes from the bacteria split the
sebum into free fatty acids that badly irritate the skin. When a break in the cell wall oc-
curs, the free fatty acids and cellular debris cause inflammatory reactions.
There is no cure for acne. Acne sufferers can, however, achieve clear skin by controlling
the factors that set off eruptions and by using products that exfoliate dead skin cells,
calm inflammation, kill the bacteria, absorb excess oil, and hydrate the skin. When ap-
plied topically, Benzoyl Peroxide (BP) acts as an antibacterial ingredient that success-
fully treats acne by penetrating the follicle and releasing oxygen. This oxygen acts like
bleach by opening the acne impactions and killing the P. acnes bacteria (the bacteria
that causes acne). This technique also reduces the level of free fatty acids and the level
of skin infection. Your skin must acclimate to BP, because BP is very drying. It’s crucial to
include Green Tea Gel, Recovery Gel Mask, and SPF 30 Lotion into your skin care regimen
