Preface

‘Social Studies and Creative Arts for Grade One’ has adopted practical approach
in order to guide the students towards effective learning in a playful manner.
Right from the first lesson till the end, students have creative involvement with
different kinds of arts, drawings, tricks besides traditional patterns of questions
and answers. This book follows the patterns of emotional and perceptive growth
of students at Grade One level. At this stage of life, children are deeply connected
with family. School is not a very interesting place for children if they do not find
it full of fun, play and care. Every exercise here in the present book has created a
situation for children to get involved in the creative art, fun activities, discussion
and role playing under the able guidance of teachers. Children will become more
expressive and will develop more capabilities at cognitive and emotional level
after they gradually proceed with each exercise. Since social interactions happen
both at home as well as school, this book has dealt with topics related with family,
home and school with great concern keeping in mind the specific situation and
purpose children experience while growing up. Children at this age develop
the ability to defend their choice, likes and dislikes. The exercises at the end of
every lesson make them much more capable to reason with anyone who confront
them. They share their emotions with friends, family members and teachers. They
have feeling of empathy. This book has taken care of all these elements which
a development psychologist will agree with and stand for. I expect the teachers
to be cooperative and patient with the children in dealing with each and every
lesson plus the exercises given there. Parents and guardians have again equally
important role to assist their child get the meaning of a lesson and explain the
exercises for encouraging his/her participation in learning activities.
