Had a deep insight of the American legislative system and working of the government . Also
got to know how the judiciary works and learnt about the system of checks and balances in

Yes it did . Got to learn the democratic and legislative norms. The direct control of public over
the amendment of laws is a unique character of US system.

I will interact with the legislators and convince them to incorporate the public hearing
mechanism in the Legislative process back home

Yes as it not only makes the people well aware and knowledgeable but at the same time it
beings the people of India and Pakistab togather as the case was with us . We came as
individuals and are departing as one family

What overall comments do you have about the exchange program?
This was a great opportunity to experience USA from personal as well as professional
perspective.
What comments do you have about the overall program quality?
The program was very well managed. However, there needs to be some structure for the
fellows so that they are able to make even more of it. For example, each fellow should be
required to do at least one public speaking while being in USA and that could be worked out
before their arrival. This will give us opportunity to make the learning two-ways. This can not be
expected from fellowship places but World Learning can arrange such events. For example,
Legacy International arranged a panel discussions with participants from Tunisia and Morocco
and similar events could be arranged by World Learning.

Civil Society was my prime interest in DC. I got exposed to the ideas of how civil society can be
active and moblize around causes. I had some great meetings where people shared examples
of how they have been effective in changing US legislation through civic action.

I will work on role of civil society in democratisation and how to be locally focused and cause
oriented.

I thought there would be bit more hands-on support to be provided while being here.
Is there anything you did not learn in the pre-departure orientation that you
wish you had?
We should have been told about the level of exibility and self reliance before departure. We
could have started preparing ourselves accordingly.

Pakistan?
Yes its absolutely necessary to continue this program. Specially in the recent contextual
developments in all three countries, its more than ever necessary to encourage people to
people contact.

We were pretty satis ed with World learning. However, I believe that the program quality varied
from City to city e.g. The program for Columbus and Cleveland fellows was well thought out
and planned as compared to ours i.e Washington. Their host ensured they participated in
cultural and professional events however we were left to gure out most on our own.

What new ideas and/or skills do you think you will use in your community as
a result of the program?
I will use pitch elevation for my designed program that is based on Digital Tolerance and I will
also be using the communication skills and strategies learned to communicated with diverse
group of people.

Yes, I thought I would have an understanding of U.S legislative system by directly working with
the relevant agencies but it didnt happen
Is there anything you did not learn in the pre-departure orientation that you
wish you had?
Yes we should have been told about cheap groceries and food places as the stipend given is
very small and people living in independent apartments end up spending a lot of money on
these items.
Do you think there is value in continued exchange programs for India and
Pakistan?
de nitely as we not only get to change our perceptions about U.S but our Indian counter parts
and we will pursue our government to establish peaceful ties with India and encourage people
to people to contact
