Student activities

Student Development STUDENT ACTIVITIES From my point of view as educator and researcher, student activities related to development programmes can provide students with valuable opportunities to learn and develop new skills in a variety of domains, including leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, among others. These activities can take a variety of forms, including workshops, seminars, mentoring programmes, and social events. Community service is one of the student activities associated with development programmes. Participation in community service activities can aid in the development of important skills such as teamwork, leadership, and empathy in students. Additionally, it can provide them with a sense of purpose and a deeper comprehension of the world around them. Another type of student activity associated with development programmes is leadership development. This can include workshops and training sessions that help students develop leadership skills like effective communication, delegation, and decision-making. It may also include opportunities to assume leadership positions within student organisations or the greater community. Mentorship programmes are another beneficial type of student activity associated with development programmes. These programmes pair students with mentors who have experience in their respective fields, providing them with guidance and assistance as they navigate their academic and professional journeys.

Student Development In addition to these activities, student development programmes may include social events and networking opportunities. These can provide students with opportunities to connect with peers, develop relationships with faculty and staff, and improve their social skills. Overall, student activities associated with development programmes can play an important role in fostering the growth and development of students. These programmes can assist students in achieving their goals and realising their full potential by providing them with opportunities to acquire new skills, build on their strengths, and forge connections with others. I launched various programs aimed at providing students with opportunities for lifelong development. These programs are available at the departmental, university, national, and international levels. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the programs have continued virtually. For instance, the Sakura Science program, which was previously held physically from 2016 to early 2020, was fully conducted online from 2020 to mid-2022 using platforms such as Zoom and Gaia Town, a 3D educational game that enables real-time conversation. Luckily, from the 8th to the 13th of March 2023, the Sakura Science program resumed its physical form. As a result, I was able to take UPM students to the Center for Photodynamic Medicine at Kochi University, Japan for the 1st Japan Photodynamic Medical Program. In addition to the Sakura Science program, the partnership between UPM and Kyutech University has been reinforced through postgraduate student attachments. The exchange program for students was supported by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship for Exchange Students, which is available to eligible international students who are accepted by a Japanese university under an agreement.

Student Development Collaboration research involves researchers and scholars from different countries working together to answer research questions and address global challenges. As universities seek to expand their global reach and improve their research capabilities, this type of research has become increasingly important in higher education. Research collaboration can take many forms, such as joint research projects, international conferences, and student exchange programmes. The ability to establish partnerships with universities in other countries is one of the most significant benefits of collaboration research for inbound student mobility. These partnerships may result in the creation of joint degree programmes that allow students to earn degrees from both universities. Joint degree programmes provide students with a unique opportunity to gain international experience and exposure to diverse academic cultures, thereby enhancing their employment and career prospects. Collaboration research can facilitate both joint degree programmes and student exchange programmes. These programmes enable students to study abroad for a semester or an academic year and gain exposure to academic systems and cultures of other countries. Student exchange programmes can also promote cross-cultural understanding and global citizenship, which are becoming increasingly important in today's increasingly interconnected world.

Student Development ~STEM Karnival District Education Offices Seremban Negeri Sembilan~ I encourage my undergraduate and postgraduate students to join me at STEM Carnivals held at both national and university levels, as it provides a platform for them to share the knowledge they have gained in class or through their research conducted in the lab. In addition, I also looking for opportunity where my students can join innovation competition at national and international level. I strongly believe that participating in an innovation competition can provide students with numerous benefits. Innovation competitions challenge students to identify and solve real-world problems, thereby fostering the development of their problem-solving skills. Competitions can encourage students to generate creative solutions to difficult problems by encouraging them to think creatively outside the box. Collaboration is often a crucial aspect of innovation competitions, and working in teams can help students learn to communicate effectively, delegate responsibilities, and develop trust. Competitions frequently require students to present their ideas in a clear and persuasive manner, which can help them gain confidence and enhance their communication skills. Competitions offer students the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting, thereby preparing them for future career opportunities. Many competitions involve interaction with industry professionals, providing students with the opportunity to network with potential mentors, employers, and collaborators. Win prizes and recognition: Competitions frequently award top performers with prizes and recognition, which can give students a sense of accomplishment and acknowledgement for their efforts.

Student Development Overall, participation in an innovation competition can be a rewarding experience for students, providing them with a platform to develop their skills, showcase their talents, and positively impact the world.

Student Development ~Innovation Competition~ 3 Minute Thesis 2020 and SAES 2021

Student Development

Student Development The student participates in two exciting academic activities: an innovation competition and a three-minute thesis presentation. In the innovation competition, the student is most likely collaborating with other students to develop a novel idea, product, or solution that can address a real-world issue. This competition may require the participant to conduct market research, design a prototype, develop a business plan, or present their idea to a panel of judges. Participation in an innovation competition can aid in the development of important skills such as innovation, teamwork, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship. The student is preparing for both the innovation competition and a 3-minute thesis presentation. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the student to present their research and share their findings with a larger audience. The student must condense their complex research into a message that can be understood by non-specialists. This activity can help students hone their communication skills, gain confidence in presenting their work, and potentially create opportunities for further research collaborations and networking. The student's participation in both the innovation competition and the 3-minute thesis presentation demonstrates their dedication to academic excellence and their willingness to accept new challenges.

Student Development Participating in a university-community event is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the local community and have a positive impact beyond the classroom. Volunteering, community service, and outreach programmes are all examples of this type of event. Students can gain valuable experiences outside of the classroom by participating in a university-community event. It can expose them to new perspectives, foster empathy and understanding, and allow them to contribute meaningfully to their community. Students can also gain valuable skills such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork through these opportunities. Participation in the university-community event demonstrates the student's dedication to using their skills and knowledge to positively impact the world. It also demonstrates their willingness to engage with the larger community beyond their academic pursuits.

Student Development Activity Impact/ Student Development Program

Student Development IMPACT OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES With a decade of involvement in various student activities, I can conclude that the impact is substantial not only for students, but also for advisors, committee members, and the community/industry at large. The impact of student activities/ development programs can be significant. Overall, extracurricular activities, such as student development programs, can have a positive impact on a student's personal and academic growth, and can help set them up for success in their future endeavors. By demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and development through these activities, students can show that they have a range of skills and experiences that go beyond their academic achievements. Furthermore, extracurricular activities, such as student development programs, can help students build their resumes and stand out to potential employers or college admissions committees. Similarly, participating in a mentorship program can help students develop valuable relationships with mentors, who can offer guidance and support as students navigate their academic and personal lives. For example, participating in a leadership program can help students develop leadership skills, which can translate into better performance in academic and personal contexts. Engaging in extracurricular activities, such as student development programs, can have a positive impact on a student's personal and academic growth.

Student Development Student activity and development programmes can have a significant impact on the career development of students by assisting them in acquiring the skills and experiences that are valued by employers in a variety of industries. Participating in activities that enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies can help students stand out in a competitive job market and provide them with a competitive edge in their chosen careers. Through student activities and development programmes, students can develop their leadership and teamwork skills, learn how to communicate effectively, cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and gain experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Employers place a premium on these skills, and students who have sharpened them through extracurricular activities may be more desirable to potential employers than those who have not.

Student Development

Student Development Participation in student activities and development programmes can also help students build their professional networks, which can be beneficial when searching for employment. By networking with alumni, industry professionals, and other students with similar interests, students can gain insight into a variety of career paths and make connections with prospective employers. Inbound and outbound student mobility affects students, universities, and societies in many ways. Inbound and outbound student mobility can help students gain new skills, international experience, and new perspectives. In a globalised world, employers value language, cultural awareness, and intercultural competence. Inbound and outbound mobility programmes also boost self-confidence, independence, and adaptability, which can help students succeed in life and work.

Student Development Inbound and outbound student mobility benefits universities. Universities can boost their global reputation, cultural diversity, and research collaborations by hosting or sending students abroad. Hosting international students can also boost campus culture and crosscultural learning. Outbound mobility programmes may strengthen ties with partner institutions abroad, allowing for more joint research and faculty exchange. Inbound and outbound student mobility can help societies develop a more globally competent workforce and citizenry. Inbound and outbound mobility programmes help students understand cultural differences, communicate across borders, and work together. This can boost international cooperation, economic growth, and innovation. Student mobility can also benefit sending and receiving nations' economies. International students' tuition and living expenses boost local economies, while outbound mobility programmes can create new business and investment opportunities. Student mobility affects students, universities, and societies in many ways. Inbound and outbound mobility programmes promote international education and cross-cultural exchange, fostering personal growth, institutional excellence, and global cooperation.
