CASE STUDY SUNGAI KAMPUNG HULU NYALAU, BINTULU This study was carried out to determine the Sungai Kampung Hulu Nyalau, Bintulu water quality based on BOD, COD, DO, and PH parameters. Water samples were collected only at one station along the river and analyzed using standard methods. According to human activities that occurred in the Sungai Kampung Hulu Nyalau, Bintulu was due to waste disposal into the river causing the river to be polluted. The study of water quality of the river is important due to the effluents from sewage from factories which discharge into the river resulting in extensive variations in the water quality. Generally, all of the land use and anthropogenic activities pose a grievous threat not only to the aquatic ecosystem in the river but also to provinces in which river water is used as the domestic supply, Sungai Kampung Hulu Nyalau, Bintulu is one of the rivers in village d in which human activities associated with urbanization and industrialization activities are extremely main sources of pollution. In this study, pH, DO, BOD, and COD parameters were measured and classified based on National Water Quality Standards (NWQS) to identify water quality at Sungai Kampung Hulu Nyalau, Bintulu. CEILING LIFT (CL) The aim of this project is to lighten the load during ceiling installation by eliminating the need for a second person to hold the ceiling during the screwing process. It can also be used as a table to place tools when performing work in high spots. The scope of this project was identified through an interview with the ceiling installer to ensure that the ceiling lifter is constructed in accordance with the criteria set that is practical and effective against the ceiling installation. In addition, this project assists construction workers in ceiling installation by acting as a ceiling holder without the need of a third party. The first step of this project involves interviews with ceiling installers to determine problems in the ceiling installation process and how to solve those problems. In addition, the purpose of this project is to reduce the risk of injuries while doing the ceiling installation. In this proposal, we hope that the design of this ceiling panel lifter will meet the goal size and let general workers hold the ceiling panel throughout the ceiling installation process. CONSTRUCTION SAFETY BOX 7 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor ROSILAWATI BINTI MOHD RASOL Group Members AIMIN FARHAN BIN AMIL (05DKA21F1070) NORISAM BIN HASDI (05DKA21F1109) NAZRI BIN MAHDI (05DKA21F1106) This project resulted from observations at construction sites, woodworking workshops, and interviews with workers at construction sites. Among the problems that often occur is the loss of hand tools and machines for the construction process at construction sites and workshops. Furthermore, we also found that the equipment was in a disorganized state when doing work, the problem of carrying heavy and large machinery from one place to another. Through this problem, our group has designed a toolbox model through the problems and shortcomings that we have identified. Construction Safes have made improvements and modifications through problems we encountered. This Construction Safety Box has a high level of security and has plenty of space to place equipment. The first modification, is multiple places to store equipment in the toolbox. Second, the toolbox has wheels to allow the toolbox to be carried anywhere as it carries a lot of heavy equipment. Finally, it has a high-security lock to prevent theft. In essence, as a result of this project modification, we were able to overcome the problem of losing machine tools and the problem of carrying heavy machinery on the construction site and in the workshop. DESIGN THE ADJUSTABLE WALL FRAME AND CONNECTOR FOR THE PREFABRICATED WALL PANEL SYSTEM 8 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor TANG HING KWONG Group Members SPENCER NGINDANG ANAK MARCUS (05DKA21F1030) ADRIANA PENNIE ANAK LAZARUS (05DKA21F1045) JOEL MARAN PADAN (05DKA21F1073) In recent years, prefabricated wall panels (PWP) have been widely used instead of brick as building walls for affordable houses, and their main advantages are convenient construction, low energy consumption, and heat and sound insulation. However, prefabricated wall panels also have some common problems in practical applications, such as their large size, heavy weight, weak horizontal bending moment, and weak connection. In this project, mild steel angle stud (MSAS) with a size of 75 mm x 75mm x 3mm is proposed as wall frame, and the Ultimate Limit State (ULS) Eurocode 3 design showed that it can support 221N/m uniform distribution load (UDL) from the different layout wall panel 600mm or 1200 mm in width, 1200 mm in height, and 100 mm in thickness with a density of 139 kg/m3. The fulltread adjustable bolt (FTAB) with a 200mm length and 16mm diameter is used to connect the wall frame to the column, and the full-tread adjustable bolt with a 100mm length and 16mm diameter is used as a connector to lock the cold-formed steel wall panel with the wall frame. The tensile test showed a full tread adjustable bolt can support 430 N/mm2 tensile strength, and the analysis of the serviceability limits state (SLS) showed the wall panels are fixed properly within the allowable limit of 6 mm of deflection. Keywords: Prefabricated wall panel (PWP), mild steel angle stud (MSAS), ultimate limit state (ULS), uniform distribution load (UDL), full tread adjustable bolt (FTAB), serviceability limits state (SLS) Abstract

DRAIN TRASH TRAP (DTT) JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM 10 Supervisor HAMIDAH BINTI MOHAMMAD YUNUS Group Members CLAUDIA ANGELI PETRUS (05DKA21F1120) EVELYN ANAK MINUN (05DKA21F1105) MARIA MAGDLIN RUNDAI ANAK ASHLEY (05DKA21F1035) This drain trash trap project is a product project made to help cleaning companies and reduce environmental pollution. This project aims to reduce the blocked drains in urban areas where the waste problem often occurs in the drain and to design the most effective trash trap to capture all the trash that blocks the drain. A drain trash trap is to collect litter, sediment, and other pollutants that are washed into drainage systems. Therefore, the first objective is that we want to see how to design and build drain trash traps. This drain trash trap was constructed using galvanized steel with coated netting. The basket incorporates small holes to allow the flow of water to continue while the debris is collected. Besides, we want to test its effectiveness and identify the type of garbage in the drain. The problems that often occur are when there is water pollution, the water flow is slow or blocked, and has a high cost. The location we chose is near to Matang Mall area which is close to the drain there for us to put the drain trash trap. Apart from that, the results we got where we weighed the trash and obtained 3 data samples which are sample 1 is 400 grams, sample 2 is 754 grams and sample 3 is 1050 grams. We also identified a few of the main wastes that are trapped inside the drain trash trap, which are plastic, bottles, leaves, and small twigs. We did all the data collecting and data analysis to determine the effectiveness of the drain trash trap. We could see the significant impact on the surrounding area after we placed the drain trash trap inside the drain within 2 weeks. In conclusion, we can conclude that this drain trash trap has achieved all three objectives and can be used in the future. We also like to recommend this product to help cleaning workers in Polytechnic Kuching Sarawak. Keywords: Drain trash trap, waste problem, effective tools, drain, environment Abstract

ECOSONIC INSULATION PANEL 11 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor NUR ALWANI BINTI ABDUL LATIF Group Members AHMAD ANIQ HAZIQ BIN MAT (05DKA21F1005) MOHD ELZIEQA NASHRIQ BIN JAAFAR (05DKA21F1031) MOHD AZRI BIN MOHD AZIZ (05DKA21F1110) Insulation panels are essential to minimize the transmission of sound and heat to increase comfort and create a quieter environment in the home. Buildings and homes can produce a variety of sounds, including interior noise produced by mechanical systems, equipment, and human activities, as well as outside noise from neighbours, industrial and transport activities. The heat from the sun can also cause the house to overheat. To be used in developing this project are coconut coir, loofah, and egg box. This test will use a 250mm x 250mm x 20mm panel, there are two Tests made namely noise presence test and thermal conductivity test. Noise presence tests and thermal conductivity tests were made against three panels of different materials. In both tests, the panels used acoustic foam, coconut coir, and egg boxes. Based on the data collected for both the heat test and the sound test, the acoustic foam, coconut coir, and egg box exhibit a significant increase in thermal conductivity and yield the best results when compared to two panels made of different materials. Keywords: Sound insulation, thermal insulation, environmental-friendly materials, noise, pollution Abstract

FLOATING TRASH TRAPPER (FTT) 12 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor LEDIA ANAK ANGUL Group Members NUR SAFIQAH BINTI AZMI (05DKA21F1015) NOR SHAZREENA BINTI NOR ISMAIL (05DKA21F1119) BRYAN DEXTER ANAK FRANCIS (05DKA21F1083) Globally, plastic waste pollution is increasing as the water is polluted by excessive garbage. According to Ocean Conservancy (2021), it is estimated that about 30 million tons of plastic waste will enter the aquatic ecosystem in 2020. Many efforts have been taken to reduce the amount of water pollution such as creating garbage collectors in the river to preserve the water ecosystem and be habitable while reducing the less pleasant smell. This study is producing a Floating Trash Trapper (FTT) to reduce the amount of plastic waste and other trash in Sungai Tabuan from entering further down to the sea. The finding shows that FTT collected a total of 77.1kg of trash in durations of 2 months starting from 25 September 2023 until 19 November 2023. AN ELECTRICITY GENERATOR BY THE COMBINATION OF WATER TURBINE WITH SOLAR PANEL (SOL-DRO POWER) 21 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor HISYARITA BINTI ABDUL WAHID Group Members WESLY GAYETTE ANAK LAWRENCE ALEXIUS KAMARAU (05DKA21F1075) SYED AZIZUL HAQEEM BIN SYED HASLAN (05DKA21F1084) NG XUN CHERNG (05DKA21F1003) The purpose of this project is to combine water turbines with solar panels into an innovative system that generates electricity for a residence or housing. Combining water turbines with solar panels is one way to utilize different renewable energies in one system. The concept is to combine the water energy system with solar energy so that it can produce more and more stable electrical energy. Basically, water turbines utilize the potential energy of flowing water to produce electricity, while solar panels use sunlight to produce electricity. In combining these two systems, solar panels are used to charge backup batteries that can be used as a backup power source when water is not available or flows less. Other than that, this innovation study is conducted to develop an electrical energy system that solves problems faced by residents in a residential area if solar panels cannot produce electricity due to lack of sunlight or lack of solar energy due to the rainy season. With this, the water turbine system has been combined with solar panels to generate electricity through hydrological energy, especially in the rainy season. However, it should be noted that combining water turbines with solar panels requires proper planning and design so that the system can work optimally. Good maintenance is also required so that the system continues to function properly and can provide optimal benefits. Based on the discussion, solar panel and water turbine systems were combined, and ‘SOL-DRO POWER’ could be created. According to the questionnaire, 60% of residents are using water pumps to face the problem of low-pressure water. But they face another problem that is noise from the water pump. The objective of this project is to design and produce a soundproof cover and to identify the effectiveness to be used as sound insulation for the water pump cover. Through the survey we have conducted, the average sound level we got is 85 dB during the day and 84 dB at night which shows that the sound is categorized as loud. After using the soundproof cover for the water pump, the average data for the sound level is below 60 dB per day. According to the reference we got from OSHA 1994 [2], it says that 82 dB is loud. Thus, in conclusion, we can conclude that our objective has been achieved perfectly. We also hope that the scope of this study can be expanded and can be used by other water pumps. SUGARCANE FIBER AS A GREASE TRAP ABSORBENT 24 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor MOHD HAZRY BIN ISMAIL Group Members ATHIRAH MAISARAH BINTI EDENI (05DKA21F1022) IZAHUMAIRA ISTIQAMAH BINTI HOSSEN (05DKA21F1009) NURSYAKIRAH BINTI MOHAMAD SAHERIFF (05DKA21F1019) The purpose of the study is to study whether sugarcane fiber can be used as an absorbent material to make sponges that are compatible with grease traps. To do this, raw and burned sugarcane fibers were used to create two distinct sizes of sponges that is 50 x 50 x 50 mm and 200 x 130 x 50 mm. The absorbent capacity of every kind of sponge was determined by weighing the samples both before and after the grease treatment process. The findings indicated that there were notable variations in the absorbent capacity between sugarcane fibers that had been burned and those that had not, with the burned fibers showing better absorption capabilities than the raw fibers. This implies that the fibers' capacity to absorb may be impacted by the burning process. A positive association between sponge size and grease absorption efficiency is also suggested by the fact that larger sponges consistently showed higher absorption capacities. MODIFIED MUD BALLS WITH HOMEMADE EM 29 JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN AWAM Supervisor MOHD ZAWAWIV BIN AZIZ Group Members EMILY PHYLICIA ANAK ALBERT (05DKA21F1025) ASHLEY EVA WALTER THOMAS DINGON (05DKA21F1058) In polluted rivers, accumulated sludge (rotten organic material) is in a state of oxygen deficiency, since there is little oxygen dissolved in the water. The main purpose of this project is to study the effectiveness of modified Mud Balls with Homemade Effective Microorganism to treat the quality of polluted raw water by studying several water quality parameters such as pH and turbidity. All values for parameters are obtained through on-site analysis and laboratory testing. All the values obtained before the mud balls were thrown and the values after the mud balls were thrown into the river for parameters were then used to calculate the Water Quality Index (WQI) using the formula. This Water Quality Index will be used to classify river classes and classify water quality in the Sarawak river water area Waterfront Kuching Sarawak. Unsatisfactory water quality is still an issue and EM Mud Balls have the potential to overcome this problem. The research found that the result shows that the water initially had a pH level of 8.9 which means it is alkaline. After the mud balls, the pH level of the river water decreased resulting in the water being alkaline to turn acidic. To conclude, it is proven that mud balls with homemade EM of ratio 1:1:1:1 are the best ratio as they managed to improve the water turbidity of Sarawak River.
