It is a great pleasure for me to have the opportunity to give a report on the
activities and achievement of the Student’s Union. Govt. Zirtiri Residential
Science College during the academic session, 2014-2015.

First and foremost , I would like to thank Almighty God for his guidance and
bestowed me with health throughout the year. My heartfelt thanks goes to our
respected Principal, Mr. Laltanpuia, for his advice and help. I would also like to
give thanks to all the Lecturers, Non-teaching Staff, Student’s Union Leaders and
all the students of Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College for their kind and
wonderful co-operation.

Lastly, my special thanks goes to my best supporter Mr. Lalnunpuia , Assistant
General Secretary for his untiring support and help.

The following are the general activities of the Student’s Union during the
academic session 2014-2015.

• Students’ Union General Election 2014

The General Election for the Student’s Union of Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science
College for the academic session 2014-2015 was held on 21st August,2014 under
the guidance of Mr. Dr.B.Zoliana, Asst. Professor, Department of Electronics at
the College Building.

Handing over of charge with the outgoing Students’ Union took place on
the 28th August 2014 at the Principal’s Office chamber.

The following Students were elected as the leaders of the Students’ Union
for the academic session 2014-2015.

Principal, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College, Aizawl is the Ex-Officio
President of the Students’ Union.

2. Inter –Class Football Tournament 2014

The inter class football tournament was held on 18th July 2014 at Ramhlun
Sport Complex. The team representing III Sem, B.sc became the class champion
and were given an award by the Vice President of the Students’ Union.

3. Freshers’ Social Cum Farewell Function

The Freshers’ Social Cum Farewell Function was held on the 7th August 2014
at Vanapa Hall wherein Mr.Lalrinmawia Ralte, Hon’ble Minister was the Chief
Guest. The 12.0 Annual College Magazine titled ‘ RED VANDA ‘ was released by
the Chief Guest Mr.Lalrinmawia Ralte on 7th August 2014.The Freshers’ Cum
Farewell Function day was organized by Students’ Union Govt. Zirtiri Residential
Science College .

4. College Week

The 15th Annual College Week was held during 22nd September – 3rd
October,2014 and was formally inaugurated by the Principal of the college week
Mr.Laltanpuia at 10:00 am on 22nd September at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui.
During the college week , the students were divided into four houses viz. Red
House, Yellow House, Green House, and Blue House. Competitions were held
among the four houses on different activities which included- Athletics, Football
(Boys),Volleyball ( Men & Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men
& Women), Badminton (Men & Women), Essay Writing (English & Mizo), Debate,
Cultural Song and other indoor activities. During the college week , the Football
competition is usually entitled SU Cup and the V Semester Life Science became
the SU Cup CHAMPION.

The College Week was held at different places viz.

• Football( SU CUP) & Athletics:
Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui on 22nd & 23rd September 2014.

• Indoor Items:
Ropuiliani Indoor Stadium, Ramhlun on 2nd October 2014

• Outdoor Item (Basketball)
Chawnpui Indoor Stadium on 24th September 2014

• Debating Items:
College Auditorium on 26th September 2014

• Social & Cultural Items:
Ramthar YMA Hall on 27th September 2014

6. 12th Mizoram University Sports 2015.

The 13th Mizoram University Sport was held during the 23rd – 27th March,
2015. Our College took part in various disciplines. Our College had different

7. 15th Annual College Week Closing Function cum Prom Night

The 15th Annual College Week Closing function was held on 5th February
2015 at Chanmari Veng YMA Hall. Our respected Principal Mr.Laltanpuia graced
our function and Mr.C Ngunlianchunga ,the Hon’ble Minister, AH & Vety Dept.
was the Chief Guest. Prize distribution to individuals and to the winning teams of
each houses were held.

All the students came dressed beautifully in their formal dresses. The afternoon
session comprised of students from different classes, performing various songs and
dances, entertaining the audience. A feast was held for the entire college community
and were joined by the Students’ Union Leaders from different colleges.

Miss Vanlalhmangaihzuali I Sem B.sc(H.sc) and Zoliantluanga I Sem B.sc were
the winner of Miss and Mister Contest. After the end of the programme, dinner
was served at the College, followed by Prom nite which went on till 8:00 pm.

8. Best Discipline Award

Our College was declared the ‘Best Disciplined College‘ by Aizawl City College
Joint Students Union.

9. Short Course on Personality Development

The Career Counseling and Placement Cell and the Coaching for Entry into
Services jointly organized a short Course on Personality Development during
26th May to 5th June 2015. The course was designed for the outgoing Students ( 6th
Semester Student of all the streams). The topics covered in the course were Basic
Computer Skills ,English usage, Interview Skills, Communication Skills, Travelling
Tips, Hindi Language and Reproductive Health, Mental Health. The Resource
persons were from the college faculty and experts from outside.

10. Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) Student Union Leaders Football Cup

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) organized One Day Football Tournament , our College
Students Union Leaders also participated and were awarded the 2nd position.

11. Other Activities

• The SU Vice President Rodingliana was elected as President of the Aizawl
City College Joint Students’ Union. He was also appointed Secretary at MSU,
Student Self Support Union and Executive Committee Member in MZP.

• The SU General Secretary Lalremsiama and Mr.Lalnunpuia Asst. General Secy
were appointed as Executive Member in MZP.

• Mr.Lalruatfela Social & Cultural Secy was appointed as Secretary in MSU
Cultural Club.

• Mr.Rodingliana and Mr.Buanglianthanga attended Chin Students Meeting
held at Hakha, Myanmar.

• Two of our students – Joy Mony and Dorothy Lalrinpuii participated in the
Inter College Quiz Competition Organized by Student Self Support Union.

• Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) Conference was held at Farkawn during 6th -9th
October. Our College Students, Senhri Cultural Club GZRSC performed
Cultural Dance.

• Mr C.Ngunlianchunga , AH & Vety Minister gave Carom board, Chess set,
Draught board, and some furniture table for our College.

• Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) Football Tournament

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) organized One Day Football Tournament for Students’
Union Leaders, our College Students’ Union Leaders also participated and
Won 2nd Position.

• Meeting with Secretary, Mizoram Scholarship Board

Leaders of the Student Union had a meeting with Secretary, Mizoram
Scholarship Board. The Scheme AND details of the Scholarship were discussed
in this meeting.

I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to all the other Students’ Union
Leaders, all my fellow students, all the teaching and non-teaching staff of this
College who willingly gave their time and ability for the good name of our College.
I would also like to thank the Zoology and English Department for all their words
of encouragement, motivation and inspiration.

Let the entire fabric of the college community be tightly knitted together by a
thread of love, hard work and sustain quality and excellence in the college.

It is a great privilege for me to give a brief report on the activities and achievements
of the INDOOR DEPARTMENT during the academic session 2014­-2015.

Firstly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty God for
His blessings and guidance throughout the session.

I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our respected Principal
Laltanpuia, all the Lecturers and Staff for their valuable support and advice.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Asst. Indoor Secretary Mr.

the session.

It is a great priviledge for me to give a brief report on the various activities of the
debating department during the academic session of 2014 – 2015.

First of all I would like to thank our almighty God for all his blessings and
guidance throughout the year. And I convey my heartful thanks to our principal
Mr Laltanpuia and all their marvelous support and advise.

My deepest thanks goes to my assistant R.Lallawmzuali 6th Semester B.Sc
Home Science for all her unfailing support during the entire session.

I extend my sincere thanks to all my fellow Students’ Union leaders, lecturers
and all the students for all their kind encouragement and cooperation. The result
of the debating department during the academic session of 2014 – 2015.

We were also very fortunate and grateful that the prize for Essay writing
(English) and Elocution is sponsored by our English Department lecturers. We
whole heartedly thank them.

During this session Inter-College Quiz Competition was held between 17th –
18th march 2015 at Ignite Studio which was organized by Students Self Support
Union (SSU) General Headquarters and Communication and Capacity
Development Unit(CCDU), PHE Department. The Participants from our College
are Joy Mony 4th Semester B.Sc and Dorothy Lalrinpuii 6th Semester B.Sc.

Lastly I would like to conclude my report by expressing my heartful gratitude
to all the house leaders during the College week and the participants who gave
their talents for the success of this department.

It is a great pleasure for me to give a brief report on the various activities and
achievements of Social &Culture Department during Academic session of 2014-
15. Firstly, I am thankful to the almighty God for His guidance and blessings
throughout the session. I would like to thank our respected principal
Mr.Laltanpuia, all the lecturers and staffs for their advice and support. I would

REPORT FROM NATIONAL SERVICE
SCHEME (NSS)

It is indeed a great privilege for me to give a brief report on the activities of NSS
Unit, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science during the academic session 2014-2015

With regard to the NSS scenario in Mizoram, this unit is the seventh in
seniority and has been allotted six units of volunteers for the session 2014-2015.
Almost all the volunteers are actively involved in creating assets for the community
as well as in generating health and environment protection issues. Some of the
most important activities undertaken by this NSS unit may be summarized as
follows:

REGULAR ACTIVITIES :

January 2014 : Voluntary Blood Donation Camp for Presbyterian Hospital,
Durtlang was held on 23rd January 2014. On this day, 76 volunteers (66 male & 10
female) donated their valuable blood for the said Hospital. Staff and Doctors from
this Hospital came to the Campus to collect the blood.

February 2014 : NSS North East Festival was held during 3rd to 7th February at
Mizoram University Campus. In this festival, 16 (sixteen) volunteers (8 female & 8
male) participated.

One of our NSS Programme Officer, Mimi Lalmuanawmi attended Training
programme during 16th to 22nd Feb. at Ramakrishna Mission Narendrapur. She
actively participated in the programme.

March 2014: Cleanliness Drive was organized on 7th March at College Campus.
All the volunteers including Teaching and Non-teaching staff actively participated
in this programme.

On 14th March,Seminar on.”Disaster Management for NSS volunteers”, was
organized at College Auditorium. Mr C Zoramthara, Programme Officer, Dept of
Geology, gave lecture on this topic.

May 2014 : Mass Plantation Programme was held on 30th May 2014 at Hmuifang
Road. 10 girls and 20 boys from IV Semester B.sc and B.sc (Home Science)
participated in this Mass Plantation Programme.

June 2014 : Repairing of Public Urinal at Ramthar Veng was done by 22 volunteers
(12 male & 10 female) on 6th June 2014.

July 2014 : On 10th July, Orientation Programme for NSS Volunteers was organized
at College Auditorium. More than 200 volunteers attended this programme and
we practiced NSS Clap under the guidance of Miss Mimi Lalmuanawmi PO, and
almost all the Programme Officers delivered a speech.

August 2014 : Cleanliness Drive was conducted in collaboration with Cleanliness
Committee of our college on 8th August. More than 250 volunteers with Teaching
and Non-teaching staff participated and cleaned all the classrooms and Common
room, Library, Office etc.

Follow up Programme of Tree Plantation Site at Hmuifang Road was held on18th
Aug. 39 volunteers participated in this programme by planting 36 saplings again
and cleaning the site.

September 2014 : NSS Foundation Day (ie 24th Sept) was observed at
Zampuimanga Thlan as the programme directed by SLO. On this day our
programme officers again visited our Plantation Site. No volunteers can
participated in this programme because of College Week.

October 2014: Special Cleanliness Drive was organized by SLO for all the
volunteers within Aizawl City on 15th Oct. Among our volunteers, I Semester
BCA were detailed to participate in this programme.

November 2014: The Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel was observed at
College Auditorium on 31st October. Mr. Lalnunthara PO delivered a speech on
the works of SV Patel and more than 50 volunteers attended this programmee
with our Principal.

January 2015: Launching of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organized by the
NSS Cell with the permission of the Principal on 23rd January at Ramhlun Sports
Complex. Almost all Teaching and Non-teaching Staff with more than 250
volunteers participated in this programme. Cleaning of the Complex was done
on this day.

North East Youth Festival for NSS volunteers was again hosted by the Sports
and Youth Services Dept. Govt of Mizoram during 15th to 18th Jan. Four volunteers
from our college participated in this Festival.

February 2015: On 28th February,NSS Plantation Site was visited by some of our
Programme Officers with 42 volunteers. They planted again 34 sapling and also
repair the fencing.

March 2015: Cleanliness Drive was conducted at College Campus on 24th March.
More than 200 volunteers participated.

SPECIAL CAMPING:

March 2015 : Under Unit I and II, Special Camping were organized at Lungphun
Lallula Veng and Bawk veng during 23rd to 29th of the month. The main activities
undertaken were:

a). Construction of Public Urinals
b). Cleanliness Drive at the roadside of the village.

March 2015 : Under Unit III, Special Camping was organized at Hreichuk during
23rd to 29th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

a). Construction of Waiting Shed

b).Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. Distribution of pamphlets related to
this topic.

In conclusion, I would like to thank to our respected Principal Mr Laltanpuia
for his valuable support and guidance without which many of our activities would
not have been achieved. I would also like to thank to all my colleagues and NSS
volunteers for their support and cooperation.

REPORT FROM PERSONALITY
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

‘Personality Development is a continuous process and the evolution of an individual’s
personality is linked to his person and professional growth.It is often multi-faceted,and
individuals display different personalities at different places and in different phases of
their life.’

During 26th May -6th June 2015, the third batch of final year students
underwent a short term course on Personality Development .This programme
was introduced in 2013 to provide necessary life skills to the outgoing students of
all streams.The course is jointly organised by Career counselling &Placement Cell
and Coaching for Entry into Services under the supervision of the IQAC. The
course, having met with an overwhelming response from the students,has been
continued since it was introduced two years ago. The course aims at imparting
knowledge and skills that will benefit our students as they pursue higher studies
and look for jobs. This year we had 114 students registering for the course out of
which about 90 students attended .The absentees were mainly students who had
gone back to their home-towns after completing their university examinations.

The first day opened with a crash course on spoken Hindi,a language which
is gaining importance throughout the country.In the short time that was allotted
to her, Mrs Rebecca Lalhmangaihi,Associate professor,GAC taught the students
the basics of spoken Hindi.This course was added since last year as proposed by
the first batch of students in their Feedback form.

On the second day ,Dr.Labiakdiki Hnamte ,Associate Professor,Mizoram was
invited to give a lecture on Motivation and Goal-Setting.The students responded
well to the course .Her discourse ,though not completely academic, proved to be
inspiring as well as enjoyable to the students.In the afternoon session a well-
known free-lance journalist and T.V Presenter Mr.Sangzela Tlau provided

important tips on travelling outside Mizoram.This ,in fact ,is the third time
Mr.Sangzela was invited for our programme and students have been enjoying
their sessions with him.

The third day opened with a hands-on training programme on social skills
with special emphasis on dining skills which was presented by Mrs
Lalthanpuii,Ralte Associate,Professor of our college.As in the previous years ,this
session was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.This was followed by an
interactive session with Mr.K.L Liana ,MJS which was entitled ‘Coffee with K.L
Liana’.This session was interactive ,educative and interesting. The resource person
answered many questions on legal issues.The day ended with a photo-session
with Mr.K.L Liana,admired and idolised by many of the students.

On the fourth day,experts from SCERT namely,Mrs Zozikpuii and Mrs
Vanlalruati were invited for a discussion on Reproductive Health and Mental
health respectively. The organisers have always felt that students need to be
enlightened on knowledge regarding reproductive Health. The present age has
seen many youth who have been afflicted with stress and depression, sometimes
even leading to suicide. Hence, mental health is of great importance to students
who are to face different challenges of the modern era.The sessions proved to be
extremely beneficial to the students.

The fifth day met with an astounding response from the students.
Communicative Skills and Interview skills was imparted to the students by Mrs
Rinthanpuii ,who had worked as a trainer at Infosys and also in Taiwan in the
past years.She has been lending her expertise for the past three years and from
the feedback of the students,her sessions were thoroughly enjoyable and relevant.

On the final day of the course ,the session began with a well-prepared
presentation on the topic ‘Personal Grooming and Time Management ‘, powerfully
delivered by Mrs.Lalmalsawmi Associate professor of our college.In the next
session ,students were divided according to their stream and given career
counselling by Mrs Lalhmingliani Hlond for Home Science,Mr.Lalhruaitluanga
for BCA,and Mr.C.Zoramthara for Science.The two sessions were followed by the
closing programme where the Principal ,Mr.Laltanpuia distributed Certificates
and delivered a motivational speech to the 90 odd students who attended the
course.He also thanked the organizers,Mrs Zodinpuii,Mrs Lalrinsangi Nghinglova
and Mrs M.S Dawngliani.In turn,the organizers thanked the Principal and the

administrative staff for their endless support in organising the course.Inspite of
some shortcomings the entire course met with a great success and the students
were extremely satisfied,as learnt from their speeches and feedback.

The next three days ,i.e upto 6th June 2015 were utilised for delivering lectures
for students who registered for the Course on Computer Concept(CCC) organised
by the same cells and spearheaded by the Department of Computer Science under
the able guidance of their Head of Department, Mrs M.S Dawngliani.The teaching
faculty of BCA have been rendering their services since the course was initiated
as an add-on course for the outgoing Science and Home Science students.The
course for this year had started in February and classes were held after college
hours and the course was completed in these three days.CCC was introduced in
the college in 2013 and has been continuing since then.It is organised in
collaboration with NIELIT which gives certificates to successful students who sit
for examinations after the end of their course.Such students will earn an additional
certificate besides their degree certificate,which will prove to be very useful in
job-hunting.

The college intends to continue with these two course, especially with
Personality Development Programme which has been included as one of the Best
Practices of the institute. It is the ultimate aim of the college to provide some kind
of holistic development to our students and make them educated and employable,
to enable them to finally realise the our ultimate goal “Lighted to Lighten’.

First af all , I am really thankful to Almighty God for allowing me to be included
as one of the College staffs at such a College which is named after His beloved
faithful servant Pi Zirtiri (Ms EM Chapman) whom I highly admired. At the same
time, I am pleased to give a brief report on the function and development of the
College Library during Academic Session 2014-2015 .

The College library which is the centre of knowledge and information for
the institution is well-maintained by collecting a number of text books, General
books, References, Career Guidance, magazines, journals, newspapers, and It also
provide Internet facilities for the users so that they can access their required
Academic information free of cost.

At present, Library is staffed with four members I .e Librarian, Library
Assistant, Xerox operator and IV grade. As per UGC Norms Library Committee
was constituted in the College, where Principal was the Chairman, Librarian as
Secretary, two representatives from teaching staff and one each representative
from the office and student. Being a growing organism, the library is increasing
with new text books, general books, non-book materials with, a number of new
standard bookshelves, and furniture .

OBJECTIVES:

Providing the right information to the right person at the right time at the
right place is the main objective of the library. As such, the College library is
trying to satisfy the demand of the users by providing the authentic and relevant
informations to our target users so that they may achieve their goals with good
quality.

SERVICES RENDERED :

(i) Working hours : The Library opens on all working day from
9:00a.m – 5:00p.m

(ii) Circulation Service : This is the main service provided in the Library. Proper
rules regarding circulation is laid down and by this
rule lending system is done. Since the College has
installed SOUL 2.0 (unlimited version )for
computerization of library, Transaction is being done
with the System.

(iii) Reference Service : Library books are classified according to DDC 22nd and
23rd edition and are arranged systematically in a shelf
with open access system so that users may easily access
at any time.

(iv) UGC Network Resource Centre : UGC Network Resource Center has been
set up at the library under the survey of the committee.
A number of Computers were installed with free
Internet facilities for users to collect their Academic
Information needs.

(v) Reprographic Service: One of the most important services provided in the
library is reprographic and Lamination services
through which the users benefited the services by
concession rate lower than the market rate.

(vi) CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) : Surveillance cameras were installed for
the safety of the library and recorded every movement
inside the library.

(vii) Orientation program : Orientation program is organized for fresh students
to let them know library behavior: how to use library
resources and rules and functions of the library

(viii) Documents Section : University Exam questions, syllabus, College
magazines, and statistical hand books are kept in this
section.

(ix) Periodical Section : In this section, periodicals ie Journals, Magazine, News
papers and bounded Back volumes of journals and
News papers are kept in this section. New arrival of
Journals were properly displayed in this section.

New Developments:- During this session, the library room is shifted into a bigger
room that provide more space and consequently enable to make separate
Reprographic Service room, more space for reading room and UGC Network
Resource Centre, Separate librarian Room etc. Not only that a number of standard
bookshelves were newly purchased so that text books can be accessed more easily.
And a number of new books were purchased. New edition of DDC ie 23rd edition
is newly purchased and used for classifying the new books.

Conclusion:

To conclude my report, I would like to convey my sincere appreciation and
thanks to our respected Principal, Pu Laltanpuia, who is very efficient, helpful
and always offering utmost effort for development and progress of Library.

I also would like to thanks all Library Staff, Library Committee Members,
Faculties, and Administration Department for their valuable contribution, support
and co-operation.
