"Learning experiences are like lifelong journeys. A journey to be embarked with focus, morale & fun filled
exuberance. With the ongoing technological advancements and changes going in the marketplace, it is
utmost necessary to keep individual, team and the whole Company updated with the latest information, a
crucial way forward to a prosperous future. Learning programmes are vital from the prospect of
strengthening the employee’s career & development.

I am extremely hopeful and positive about having the right learning and development programmes to
enhance the talent of our Company in the coming year. With this, I would like to quote the dark but true
words of Henry Ford – “The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not
training them and having them stay”.

Mr Ajay Tayde
General Manager – Plant Operations,
Silvassa

“Training is crucial for organizational development and its success, which is indeed fruitful to both
employees and employers of an organization. “Training consists of planned programs undertaken to
improve employee knowledge, skills, attitude, and social behavior so that the performance of the
organization improves considerably” as defined by Wayne Cascio.

Training is required at every stage of life and for every person at work. To keep oneself updated with the
fast changing technologies, concepts and environment, training plays a vital role. Thus, training is a
process that tries to improve skills or adds to the existing level of knowledge so that the employee is better
equipped to do his present job or to mould him to be fit for a higher job involving higher responsibilities. It
bridges the gap between what the employee has and what the job demands.

Don’t be just participants in the training program. Please play an active role in the entire training process
to deliver on our targets in the coming year.

With this, I would like to quote the dark but true words of Henry Ford – “The only thing worse than
training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay."

Mr Suhael Pereira
General Factory Manager
Thane

“The best training is absolutely worthless without the will to execute it properly, consistently and with
intensity”.

Mr V Srinivas
General Factory Manager
Hyderabad

The rigours of training help us to deliver results with ease and happiness. The capacity to learn is a gift;
the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice. The Training Calendar gives one the choice
to pick the right courses to hone one's skills and knowledge.Training and retraining ourselves is the only
way to keep us ahead of competition. As Aristotle had once said ’’The roots of education are bitter, but the
fruit is sweet”.

needs changes at different stages of life and hence role of training in our life never ends. Training builds
confidence in a person to face difficult times of our life. It is a vital tool to bridge gap between our
education and professional requirements. In our industry, there are no straight courses to learn packaging
and hence training plays a vital role when we hire fresh recruits. Every minute we spend as trainer or
trainee is a big investment which will help in building career of our people and keep us ahead of
competition. Technologies are changing fast in today’s world and training can help us adapt to these
technological changes around our life.

We all must come forward and contribute in these new initiative started by our HR team.

In the Vuca world, winning the competition in the market can be won by competence and competence can
be gained by training. An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly is
the ultimate competitive advantage.

Mr Rajesh Mahatpure
Head – Taloja Cylinder Plant

“Let’s train ourselves to gain knowledge." To start with famous quote:
"I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn." - from Albert
Einstein.

It is well said that learning is the process which must continue till the end of one's career. This helps us
excel and transform ourselves into becoming perfect professionals. I believe, training is just a platform, but
real knowledge can only be possible to get acquired along with emotions and involvement. Benefits of
learning last very long and always prove to be fruitful. As is wisely said by Chanakya " Knowledge beats
beauty and the youth". Here is the platform and an opportune atmosphere where Huhtamaki is providing

propagate good practices and culture to the down line employees cannot become more productive in
every sense of word unless they are provided with continuous on- the -job training”.

Mr Subhas Mitra
Head Guwahati - Plant

Training and development is very essential for the success of modern organizations. Training and
development is one key approach used by organizations to improve and maintain the capabilities of its
workforce. If we take a closer view of training and development it can be said that training tends to be
more closely focused and adapted towards short-term performance concerns, while development tends to
be adapted more towards expanding an individual’s skills for future responsibilities.

The main reason that organizations train their employees is to bring their knowledge, skills and abilities up
to the requirement of the organization.

Training and development plays a major role in quality management. Trained employees are able to
understand the importance of quality management more profoundly.

Quality management is important as it ensures that an organizations’ product or service is consistent and
unchanging.

Quality management ensures close coordination between employees of an organization. It inculcates a
strong feeling of team work in the employees.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER

Dear Colleagues,

Training and development has always been the Company’s priority for enhancing its
competitiveness in manufacturing. There has been a special focus all through in augmenting the
technical skills of our people.

With a view to provide a clear focus, this year we have segregated the Corporate Training Calendar
and the Unit Training Calendar.

It is heartening to see the full range of technical training programs which have been planned in the
Unit Training Calendar 2018. Following a structured approach, all the programs which would be
conducted at the various locations under the various technical categories have been listed together.

We are all aware that training is most effective and results in a significantly improved performance
when it is linked to an enabling environment. At HPPL the structures, systems, roles staff and
infrastructure are all being addressed and this Unit Training Calendar will supplement these efforts
by imparting the knowledge, skills and tools to increase the technical capability of our people.

While at each Unit, the programs are conducted under the ownership of the Business Leaders with
the support of the HR Executives, we would encourage cross – sharing of the faculty members,
programme content and even participants between the Units.

We would urge each and every colleague of our Company to go through the calendar and seek
opportunities of learning and development in consultation with your respective
Supervisiors/Managers.

Best wishes,

Dr.Sama r.B.Srivas tava
Chief People Officer
Mumbai, India

Lamination Techniques (including lamination processes and practices)

Introduction:

Lamination is a process of combining two or more layers of substrates (polymers, foil, paper or
metalized polymers, polyethylene) to give a laminate the characteristics required by the customer
(aesthetics, good barrier, sealant properties). The layers are bonded together using adhesive,
temperature and pressure. The so called Laminate has the aesthetic quality of print, barrier
property, tensile strength of the combined layers and sealant properties which help to form a
customized bag or pouch. The Purpose of this training module is it enables the employees to get
acquainted with their jobs and also increase the job-related knowledge and skills.

Objectives:

The training course on “Lamination Techniques” combines essential theoretical knowledge about
the adhesive lamination process with hands-on practical training. After the training session, the
participants will be conversant in lamination techniques for Flexible Packaging and know exactly
how to utilize the many possibilities of modern lamination technology in production.

Adhesives & It’s Troubleshooting

Introduction:

The variety of modern flexible packaging products that are available today would not be possible
without modern adhesive systems. The evolution of the packaging industry has closely matched the

development of new adhesive materials and production processes. These trends have led to high
quality and technically demanding packaging structures required by the consumer.

In the world of flexible packaging, it is critically important to control the adhesives used to bond
laminates such as films and foils, which require meticulous accuracy of blending, dispe nsing and
applying adhesives to substrate materials. If not applied in the correct coat weight, whether too
light or too heavy, the lamination bonding will fail, causing the overlay to bubble, blister or
otherwise delaminate from the base material, a scenario that worsens as the problematic packaging
travels farther down the distribution chain.

Objectives:

 Describe the advantages of adhesive bonding.
 Describe the characteristics of adhesive bonding.
 Describe the types of adhesives.
 Describe structural adhesives.
 Describe nonstructural adhesives.
 List the different types of adhesive joints.

Knowledge of Inks, It’s Formation & Problem Rectification on Press

Introduction:

There are probably as many different definitions of ink as there are types. Perhaps the simplest
description is that ink is a liquid or semi-liquid material used for writing, printing or drawing.

Ink is a liquid or paste that contains pigments or dyes and is used to color a surface to produce an
image, text, or design. Ink is used for drawing or writing with a pen, brush, or quill. Thicker inks, in
paste form, are used extensively in letterpress and lithographic printing.

Ink can be a complex medium, composed of solvents, pigments, dyes, resins, lubricants, solubilizers,
surfactants, particulate matter, fluorescents, and other materials. The components of inks serve
many purposes; the ink’s carrier, colorants, and other additives affect the flow and thickness of the
ink and its dry appearance.

Objectives:

 To give the knowledge about ink and their properties.
 To know about types of inks
 To know about formation of inks
 Knowledge of Solvents
 Knowledge of ink code

Knowledge Of Polyester Films & It’s Troubleshooting

Introduction:

Polyester fibers, the synthetic fibers, are long chain polymers derived from coal, air, water, and
petroleum. They are formed through chemical reaction between an acid and alcohol. In this
reaction, two or more molecules combine to make a large molecule whose structure repeats
throughout its length. These molecules are very stable and strong. There are variations in the
compositions and therefore in the properties of polyester fibers.

Polyester (PET) Film has outstanding dimensional and thermal stability, excellent tensile strength,
good barrier and electric insulation properties. It is widely used as a substrate of lamination for
flexible package.

Awareness On Static Charge

Introduction:

You have probably experienced the effects of static charge. If you walk around on a carpeted floor
then grab a metal doorknob, you might get a quick shock. That is stati c charge in action. Most
objects, like a table, a chair, and a person, are electrically neutral. This means that they have an
equal number of positive and negative charges.
Static electricity is always considered as the primary danger. Once it appears, static electricity, as a
rule, provokes unwanted effects – electroshocks, leads to the secondary injuries as a consequence
of the uncontrolled movements, and in an explosive atmosphere, it provokes fires and explosions .

Knowledge of NCR & CAPA:

Introduction:

The Corrective Action process is vitally important to any organization. It provides the means to
eliminate repeat problems reduce costs from waste/rework, increase customer satisfaction through
higher quality and responsiveness, among others. These are all very desirable outcomes for any
business, but often the corrective action process is not efficient and as a result, these good business
results are not achieved.
A non-conformance means that something went wrong – a problem has occurred and needs to be
addressed. Non-conformances are addressed with corrective actions. We can find a non-
conformance in a service, a product, a process, from a supplier, or in the system itself. It occurs
when something does not meet the specifications or requirements in some way. Those
requirements might be defined by the customer, a regulatory body, or in the internal procedures of
the company.
A non-conformance could be identified through customer complaints, internal audits, external
audits, and incoming material inspection or simply during normal testing and inspection activities.

Knowledge Of Quadtech

Introduction

The QuadTech Color Control and Web Inspection System with AccuCam provide fully automatic
image-based closed-loop colour control by automatically controlling the press ink key settings.
AccuCam eliminates subjectivity in controlling colour on press. The AccuCam sensor measures the
printed web and calculates L*a*b* values for the entire image, then brings the printed image into
the specified L*a*b* target values obtained from the prepress file, and automatically maintains the
colour throughout the production run. These measurements are displayed in correlation to the
press’s ink key zones to specified target and tolerance ranges. Manual corrections to the target
settings can be implemented via the user-friendly touch screen. The measurements can also be used
for reporting purposes.

Knowledge Of Substrate

Introduction:

Substrates include any material with a surface that can be printed or coated. Although the most
common printing substrate is paper, substances such as plastic, metal, and wood are also classified
as substrates.
Matching the substrate to the job is critical. A high-quality layout, plate, ink, and printing technique
will be wasted if a low-quality substrate is used. On the other hand, expensive stock should not be
used to print low-quality products.

Objectives:

 To provide detailed over view of Substrates used in flexible packaging.
 To understand the importance & Characteristics of Substrates.

Understanding Of JSS And Machine Parameters

Introduction:

Job Specifications are a way to describe unambiguously how the finished order should appear and
can include the smallest. Spec sheets are created by job type. Every type of job can have a spec
sheet that knows its specifications. In fact, production manager reviews the Job specifications on
every order to be sure they are clear, understandable, and unambiguous. If anything is missing or in
question, the order is not placed into production until the specifications are perfect.

Spec sheets aren’t rigid, however. You can change anything about a spec sheet anytime: milestones
can be edited, tasks can be removed, and estimate options can be added freely. Plus, changing a
spec sheet doesn’t affect existing jobs, so they stay accurate.

In this sheet complete information about job such like, last run history, M\c parameter &customer
complain if any. Its compulsory for m\c technician job cannot be run with JSS. If he change any
parameter during job then it mention on JSS for next time

Objectives:

 Production will be smooth
 Customer satisfaction
 Chances of confusion will less
 speeding up the process of opening routine jobs
 Users save time since they don’t enter as much basic detail about the work.
 To keep job more consistent.

Flagging System

Introduction:

Printing defects occur while the machine is printing, of course. Armed with video cameras, web
scanners, and bare-naked eyeballs, press operators must keep a continuous eye on the quality of
the print while the press is running. Defects may include printed artifacts caused by lint on a plate,
colors that are out of registration, impression adjustments made during a roll run, moments where
ink metering problems occur, or any of a variety of other situations resulting in waste within a
printed roll.
Flagging system is a slight variation of the practice of “flagging” defective sections in rolls with tape
or paper scraps as the rolls are wound. By use specific colors to identify defective sections, we can
effectively “bracketing” the defects in such a way that the next operator can tell, at a glance, where
they begin and end.

After this training session participants will be able

 To detect printing defects easily.
 Process will be smooth.
 To control wastage.
 To increase Production
