Sri Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Tiger is the most magni昀椀cent animal that has captured the imagination of humans from time immemorial. Andhra Pradesh is home to the country’s largest tiger reserve, the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) which spread across 3727.82 sq km. We are proud with population of 80 tigers in the wild, in our state. The numbers are growing and this brings a harbinger of hope to this endangered species when the numbers are dwindling around the world. Conservation e昀昀orts of the State are supplemented by the tribes residing in the forests. Our Government is committed to the conservation of Tiger and its habitat, which is essential for a healthy natural ecosystem.

Sri. Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Energy, Forest, Environment, Science and Technology, Mines and Geology, Govt of Andhra Pradesh ** ** ** Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) is a natural heritage for us. The people of Andhra Pradesh are proud to have the largest tiger reserve in India. The NSTR, since its inception during 1983 has strove and came a long way in conservation of forests, wildlife and biodiversity. Currently, we are in 40th year of NSTR and surge in Tiger population re昀氀ects the professionalism of Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and the dedication of the local scheduled tribes in conservation of the picturesque landscape. The rich cultural heritage of Chenchus and Lambadas embedded with natural heritage of nallamala ranges shows the inherent value of NSTR. The release of Co昀昀ee Table Book “KNOW NSTR” on the eve of Global Tiger Day, 2023 and during the celebrations of 40 years of NSTR is a special moment for all of us. The road ahead will be vibrant in conserving both natural and cultural heritage eternally.

Sri. Neerabh Kumar Prasad, I.A.S., Special Chief Secretary to Government, Energy, Forests, Environment, Science and Technology, Govt of Andhra Pradesh. ** ** ** Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) is one such epitome for co-existence of tribes and wildlife. The annual results of All India Tiger Estimation or Phase IV Monitoring are impressive and the surge in Tiger population iterates that the habitat is intact and being conserved due to the dedication of local scheduled tribes (i.e.) the Chenchus and Lambada tribes. NSTR is crucial for water security of delta regions of Guntur, NTR and Krishna Districts. Being the largest tiger reserve in India, NSTR’s catchment is inevitable for the Krishna basin to achieve food and water security of the people of Andhra Pradesh. “KNOW NSTR” project the holistic scenario of NSTR and its stake in the State of Andhra Pradesh. This Co昀昀ee Table Book release during 40th year of NSTR celebrations will be memorable for our state.

Sri. Y.Madhusudhana Reddy, I.F.S., Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Andhra Pradesh Forest Department ** ** ** Nallamala Hills is a part of Eastern Ghats and known for undulating terrain and picturesque. The consolidation of the vast reserve forests into a single unit (i.e.) Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) is a milestone in the conservation e昀昀orts of rich and valuable natural resources. Over a period of 40 years (1983 to 2023), NSTR Management has reinvented itself in facing the challenges and stood smart and dynamic in the administration. The wide length and breath of the tiger reserve have o昀昀ered the wild animals to roam and explore. No doubt, NSTR is a key genepool reserve and its gene dispersal is vivid because nallamala tigers have reached seshachalam hills and made their home. The second biggest achievement is the consolidation of Tiger Corridor between NSTR and Seshachalam Biosphere reserve. It is evident from the AITE results that the tiger population is on rise.“KNOW NSTR” provides pictorial illustration and drags the attention of reader over a cup of co昀昀ee.

Smt. Shanthi Priya Pandey, I.F.S, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, (WILDLIFE) O/o PCCF (HoFF) Mangalagiri. ** ** ** The diverse ecosystem of Andhra Pradesh makes it unique. The littoral swamps of Coringa which is dominated by mangroves. The endemic and endangered Red Sanders of Sheshachalam embedded with endangered Jerdon’s Courser. The Papikonda hills are dominated by tropical moist deciduous and the nallamala hills are dominated by tropical mixed dry deciduous vegetation. The nallamala terrain is characterized by undulating steep slopes, large tract of plateaus and plains. The undulating terrain makes it distinct with Samber as the dominating prey base for predators. As per the “Economic Valuation of Tiger Reserves in India”:- A Value + Approach published by CESM, IIFM & NTCA, the collective worth of ecosystem services on human health a昀昀ord by NSTR, was found to be Rs.34592.98 Crore per year. The investment multiplier for NSTR was calculated as 7488.59, which is the highest for any tiger reserve. Hence, NSTR is a treasure and jewel of Andhra Pradesh.
