NSTR COFFEE TABLE BOOK 2023

INDIA'S LARGEST TIGER RESERVE

The main motto of this initiative is to keep NSTR free from plastics, so that wild animals will experience pristine nature. Under this initiative, locals especially tribes engaged as Swatcch Sevaks will collect the plastics and other foreign objects from the eco-system along the highways in their designated stretch. There are four major highways passing through NSTR and accounts for around 220 kms. The collected plastics and etc., are segregated, baled into discrete units in NSTR Swatcch Nilayam and transported / sold for recycling purpose. A win-win situation between forest conservation and locals livelihood has been emerged which will support in achieving sustainability in near future. So far, more than one (1) tonne of plastics have been transported to recycling units.

OD AT DOOR STEP

NSTR-Livelihood at door step Considering the vastness of NSTR, dependence of Scheduled Tribes on forest have to be acknowledged. Trimming o昀昀 their dependence of forests is paramount for wildlife conservation. To make the scheduled tribes self su昀케cient, training on handicrafts and cottage industrial units at small scale are being encouraged by NSTR team and hand holding by 昀椀eld o昀케cers have yielded results. Tribes are also showing keen interest in skill development on jute / cloth bag manufacturing, paper bag manufacturing, mushroom cultivation. These initiatives in a long run, will support protected area managers to keep the forests undisturbed and in-turn alleviate poverty among local tribal population, especially the Chenchus-Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.

NSTR – MISSION281

N SAVE SNAKES 282

NSTR – Mission Save Snakes :- We are all aware “Snakes are friends of farmers” by keeping the rodents population especially rat at check. However, the human fear for snake is time immemorial and the urge to kill it on sight is an obvious re昀氀ex to get rid of enemy, which is a misnomer. NSTR team emerged with a novel paradigm of engaging locals as snake rescuers and trained them to be professionals of snake rescue in con昀氀ict and release them in the wild. Rescuers lightening response for complaint calls and rescue of snakes have installed a sense of con昀椀dence among the public and attrition on kill rate is clearly re昀氀ected. The rescue results are impeccable. Thanks to our snake rescuers who does the noble work round the clock, the public and the snakes are at peace.
