Mothers Workday – October 2-3, 2020
Mothers from the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chapter (GFTLC) represented during the 2020
Southeastern Regional Mothers’ Workday held in Birmingham, Alabama on October 2 – 3,
2020. Eighteen mothers attended the virtual conference to experience “emPOWERed
LeadHERship: We are Better Together!” It was an exceptional time for everyone to learn
more about National and Regional initiatives, ideals, traditions, history, and expectations of
JJOA.
The Friday night comic relief and paint and sip themed party set the tone for what turned
out to be two dynamic days of enriching activities. The workshops provided thoughtful
resources on how to embrace inevitable changes due to the pandemic and positively
manage these changes in our lives, our children’s, and the community in which we serve.
Additionally, GFTLC was recognized on numerous occasions for our success and
commitment to Programming and Foundation. GFTLC was also awarded MVP Virtually
Excellent in Giving and Service!
Upon the conclusions, of the awe inspiring two days, our Mothers were Ignited, Inspired
and Impacted to Make sure that We Can Do More for our Children and our Community.

Teen Summit
On October 3, 2020, twenty-nine of the GFTL teens participated in the Virtual South East
Regional Teen Summit. The event was led by the Teen Regional Board, which includes our
own IPFC/RVP Kevin White. Throughout the evening, each teen participated in a workshop of
their choosing. Teen President Alexis Henderson provided the ROLL Call and gave the charge
on how GFTL Teens will “Do Something” this program year. In this crucial election year, the
GFTL chapter teens have decided to work within the community to encourage voter
registration. The GFTL Teens continued to shine throughout the evening. GFTL 2020 Grad,
Ryan Peters, led the “Jack’s Corner” round table and our Pop Star, Shawn Perry, facilitated
“Real Talk”; real life situations that you Black men will encounter. This year’s Summit was one

Teen Leadership Conference, hosted by the Nashville Tennessee Chapter of Jack & Jill. It was
an impactful conference in which our teens participated in leadership workshops, handled
teen business, and experienced virtual celebrations. With 10 teens in attendance, our teens
represented the GFTL chapter with pride, class, and togetherness. The production was indeed
a Jack and Jill experience. As always, the Greater Fort Lauderdale teens soared with
recognitions and honors. Teen President Alexis Henderson and Teen Vice President Raigan
Kearson were on the winning Quiz Bowl team ( Orange is the new Black) The winner of
Excellence-Best in Class- Outstanding Female Athlete Portfolio competition - Division I, went to
Taylor William, and Janiya Allen won the Excellence-Best in Class Scholastic Achievement
Portfolio competition for the Division 2 category. Additionally, entered as a Visual Arts display

America PSA, which included the GFTL Executive Board and Teen Regional Foundation Chair
Kevin White, was prominently displayed, and IPRTP Jordyn Allen curated various components
and hosted several sessions, including the well-received “Pink Table Talk”. It was an amazing
experience felt by all in attendance. Our teens’ accomplishments would not be possible
without a mountain of support, starting with their families and continuing with their Jack and
Jill village.

Annual Program Planning Meeting
The 2020‐2021 Programming Planning Retreat was held virtually on June 20, 2020. PD Anji Reese
opened the Retreat with an opening welcome and prayer. The new and returning Programming Grade
Groups Sponsors were introduced. This year’s programming committee members were given the title
of POP (Programming Our Passion) Moms by PD Anji. The expectations and roles of POP MOMS were
reviewed by APD Kelli. CP Adrelia shared her Presidential “POP” Pearls that addressed and stressed the
importance of POWER FORWARD PROGRAMMING for the 2020-2021 year. She shared that this year
programming should be engaging, cultural, and innovative amid the current climate. APD Kelli engaged
the moms with ICE Breaker “How High Maintenance Are You?”. It was interesting to see the levels of
“Maintenance” required for moms. The retreat centered on how to continue our legacy of five‐star
programming for the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chapter. Ideas were discussed for all the National and
Regional Program Thrusts, grade group activities and community events. All POP MOMs were
empowered to utilize their time and talents to create out of the box activities for the upcoming
program year.
After the Chapter Program Planning Retreat, each grade group held a retreat over the summer. Each
mother and child were tasked with submitting a thoroughly planned out grade group activity planning
form for the virtual POP meeting. The grade group sponsors facilitated the GG meetings, and each
mother and child presented their activity to the entire group. At the conclusion, the children voted on
their top activities to complete their grade group calendar for the year. The grade group sponsors were
responsible for ensuring the activities selected covered all the programmatic thrust and the required
JMB Leadership Development Financial Literacy Modules. Each grade group assigned mothers to work
as committee members on every chapter‐wide event. All grade group retreats were held virtually. The
grade group retreats were held as follows:

Twinkling Stars (PreK– K) August 1, 2020
Shining Stars (1st – 3rd) July 25, 2020
