51 The Establishment of Pierra Navin Nuseries Professor Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnavin was aware that the social and the economic situations at that time were forcing children’s parents and relatives to leave their families for work or to live and work in other towns so that they could earn money for the family. Changing way of life is one of the factors that destroy the children. Parents leaving their children alone at home; or taking them to their workplace such as a construction site, or letting them sleep under a vending cart on the street is indeed a family problem. This inevitably affects the children’s development. The fact that parents do not spend enough time to care for their children closely, especially in low-income families; the fact that children live with a single parent; or lack proper teaching because of being orphans is causing “problem children” which affects the society’s peace and safety. According to medical and psychological findings, children’s mental and physical development as well as their learning to develop their personality and behavior are in the children aged between 2 and 6, so children must be developed properly during that period. Therefore, in 1990, the foundation started a free (free of charge) nursery project for 2 - 6 years old children in order to help low-income families. (The families could donate to the foundation as they liked to show their support. However, today’s higher expenses of the Pierra Foundation are the cause that make it require donation from the parents, and it depends on their capacity. Those who cannot afford it can still get the child care for free. The required donation for the Pierra centers in Bangkok is at maximum of 30 baht per day while it is 10 to 20 baht for provincial centers; or parents can donate food if they wish.) The “free of charge” is still the foundation’s principle. Based on the CEO’s idea, the Pierra Navin nursery was established under the principle of children being cared for with love, understanding and kindness, and thus the rule of non-violence punishment is applied here. 6/13/17 11:24 AM

53 Rationale The quality of human resources comes from humans’ stages of development; heredity; and how they have been taught, raised, educated, trained, etc. “Children” are the most important human resources in the world because the world depends on new generations who will eventually replace the older generations who will naturally get sick and die. Human civilization is passed from one generation to another, and that’s why children’s learning is necessary. “Childhood” is the beginning of humans’ learning and the time for them to be implanted with various developments through proper primary education. It is extremely important that children are prepared to learn things in the interdisciplinary era. “Teacher” is another vital component of preschool education system. The Thai saying, “Teachers are the second parents,” is clearly true in preschool context. Pierra Navin The term refers to the personnel of Pierra Navin nurseries. Development The nursery’s goal is to develop the teaching and learning activities for the children to be better earthly and spiritually. Teaching Teachers here are well trained, experienced and knowledgeable. They teach subjects that lead to the students’ intellectual abilities based on the learning standards stated by the Ministry of Education. Taught by skillful, intelligent teachers who are complete with physical and mental health, the subjects for students here are basis for their further education. The teachers are able to convey the knowledge to students clearly. In conveying the knowledge and making it understandable and concrete to students, it is important to use appropriate teaching media such as Toy that are made by the teachers and role play situations that come from students’ direct experiences. 66 โรงเรียนพีระยา นาวินศูนย์พหลโยธิน 47 ประวัติ เปิดด�ำเนินการเมื่อวันที่ 7 ตุลาคม 2539 และมีพิธีเปิดอย่างเป็นทางการในวันที่ 12 ธันวาคม 2539 โดยในระยะแรกได้ด�ำเนินการในรูปแบบของสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน จนกระทั่งปีพ.ศ 2544 จึงได้เปลี่ยนมาเป็นโรงเรียนอนุบาล เพื่อเป็นการรองรับเด็กของ สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กให้ได้มีสถานที่รองรับ ในระดับชั้นอนุบาลต่อไป โดยเด็กที่มารับการเลี้ยงดู ส่วนใหญ่มาจากชุมชนโรงช้อน ชุมชนโรงสูบ ชุมชนวัดบางบัว และริมคลองชุมชนเกษตร ชุมชน วัดพระศรีมหาธาตุ แฟลตบางบัว เป็นต้น โรงเรียนพีระยา นาวิน ปัจจุบันได้รับอนุญาตให้จัดตั้งเป็นโรงเรียนเอกชนประเภท สงเคราะห์ ตามใบอนุญาต เลขที่ กส 116/2547 ลงวันที่ 7 เมษายน 2547 มีจ�ำนวนทั้งสิ้น 16 ห้องเรียน แบ่งเป็นชั้นเตรียมอนุบาล 1 ห้องเรียน ชั้นอนุบาลปีที่ 1 จ�ำนวน 3 ห้องเรียน ชั้นอนุบาลปีที่ 2 จ�ำนวน 3 ห้องเรียน ชั้นอนุบาลปีที่ 3 จ�ำนวน 3 ห้องเรียน ชั้นประถมศึกษา ปีที่ 1 - 6 จ�ำนวน 6 ห้องเรียน ������� update 01/02/60.indd 66-67

70 Pierra Navin Phaholyothin 47 Center Background Pierra Navin School at Phaholyothin 47 Center was officially established on December 12, 1996. In the early period of the Center’s establishment, it served as an early childhood nursery; until 2001 it was developed to be a kindergarten in order to admit and look after the children from the nursery. Most children were from Rong-Chon Community, Rong-Sup Community, Wat Bang Bua Community, Rim Khlong Kaset Community, Wat Phra Si Mahatat Community, Bang Bua Flat Community. With license no. Kor Sor 116/2547 dated April 7, 2004, Pierra Navin School is being operated as a community supporting-based private school. It includes a total of 16 classrooms which are divided into one classroom of pre-kindergarten, 3 classrooms of kindergarten level 1, 3 classrooms of kindergarten level 2, 3 classrooms of kindergarten level 3, and 6 classrooms of elementary levels 1 - 6 (Prathomsuksa) In addition, the Center serves as a staff training and development center and a place for people to express and exchange their ideas about early childhood, as well as a place for government and private sectors and academic institutes to visit and study. Moreover, it is a center that produces Toy for child development, teaching and learning Media, and clothes for children. Those who are interested can donate some money for funding the center’s production so that products can be sold to individuals and organizations who are interested. These products are usually displayed at the fairs, activities, or exhibitions held by educational institutes and public agencies. 74 สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กปฐมวัยพีระยา นาวินศูนย์อยุธยา ประวัติ แต่เดิมได้จัดตั้งเป็นศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็กชุมชนวัดป่าโค เมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2532 โดยได้ รับการสนับสนุนจากองค์การยูนิเซฟ ต่อมาเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2535 องค์การยูนิเซฟได้ยุติความช่วยเหลือ ท�ำให้เป็นภาระกับ ทางวัดในเรื่องค่าใช้จ่ายต่างๆ ท่านเจ้าอาวาสวัดป่าโค และอาจารย์ใหญ่โรงเรียนเทศบาลวัดป่าโค ได้เสนอเรื่องขอความช่วยเหลือจาก ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อุกฤษ มงคลนาวิน ประธานกรรมการ บริหารพีระยานุเคราะห์มูลนิธิ ซึ่งหลังจากนั้นท่านประธานฯ ได้เดินทางไปตรวจเยี่ยมเมื่อวันที่ 31 มีนาคม 2541 และได้เข้านมัสการเจ้าอาวาสวัดป่าโค พบกับอาจารย์ใหญ่ และผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องแล้ว ได้พิจารณาเห็นสมควรให้การสนับสนุนเพื่อประโยชน์ของเด็กและครอบครัวที่ด้อยโอกาส ศูนย์อยุธยาได้เปิดท�ำการ เมื่อวันจันทร์ที่ 17 สิงหาคม 2541 และมีพิธีเปิดอย่าง เป็นทางการเมื่อวันที่ 5 กุมภาพันธ์ 2542 ซึ่งเปิดรับเด็กเข้าท�ำการเลี้ยงดู และพัฒนา เป็นต้น มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ������� update 01/02/60.indd 74-75

76 AYUTTHAYA CENTER Pierra Navin Nursery Ayutthaya Center In 1989, the Nursery of Pakho Temple Community was established by the support of UNICEF. Subsequently, in 1992, UNICEF ceases its assistance causing the Temple to face with burdens of expenses. The abbot and the headmaster of the Municipal School of Pakho Temple then asked for assistance from Prof. Dr.Ukrit Mongkolnavin, the CEO of Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation. The CEO paid a visit to the nursery on March 31, 1998 and then paid respect to the abbot of Pakho Temple and met the headmaster along with all parties involved. The CEO decided to provide support to the nursery for the benefit of disadvantaged children and their poor families. Finally, the Nursery is re-opened to admit children on August 17, 1998 until present. Pierra Navin Nursery, Ayutthaya Center was in operation on Monday of August 17, 1998 and the opening ceremony was officially on February 5, 1999. It was the first day children were admitted to the nursery, and the nursery has started its operation since then. Pierra Navin Nursery is not only the place where many public and private sectors are able to visit and study, it is also a center where Montessori education and its teaching methods have been adopted for child development. In each year, Danish students under the Thai-Danish Joint Project visit the nursery for teacher’s training. Today, the Center is responsible for 4 classrooms of 195 pupils in total. 84 Pierra Navin Nursery Thatthong Center Located at Ekamai 28 (Soi Prasertdee), Khlong Tan Subdistrict, Khlong Toey District, Bangkok, a nursery was operated under the Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation on May 2, 1994. Until 1997, the nursery was closed and re-opened at Wat Thatthong (Thatthong Temple) and is now known as the Wat Thatthong Nursery Center. The Wat Thatthong Center was officially open on July 14, 1997 with a record enrolment of poor children from several communities namely Ekamai, Wat Thatthong, Khlong Toey, Nuanjit, Khlong Paeng, Yadong, Wat Phasi, Phrakhanong, and Khuaynamthai. Parents, public and private sectors have been interested to visit and study the operation of the nursery from time to time. 88 สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กปฐมวัยพีระยา นาวินศูนย์กาญจนบุรี ประวัติ วัดพระแท่นดงรังวรวิหารได้เริ่มด�ำเนินการเลี้ยงดูและพัฒนาเด็กเล็กโดยจัดตั้งเป็นศูนย์ พัฒนาเด็กก่อนเกณฑ์ เมื่อวันที่ 1 พฤษภาคม 2536 โดยใช้อาคารของวัด และอาคารที่ตั้งภายใน บริเวณวัด เปิดท�ำการเลี้ยงดูและพัฒนาเด็กในระยะแรกจ�ำนวน 3 ห้องเรียน โดยใช้เงินทุนของวัด และเงินสนับสนุนจากกรมศาสนา ต่อมา ในวันที่ 27 มีนาคม 2539 พระวิสุทธิกาญจนวิบูลย์เจ้าอาวาสวัดพระแท่น ดงรังวรวิหาร ในนามของศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กวัดพระแท่นดงรังวรวิหาร ได้มีลิขิตถึง ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อุกฤษ มงคลนาวิน ประธานกรรมการบริหารพีระยานุเคราะห์มูลนิธิ เพื่อ ขอรับความอนุเคราะห์สนับสนุนในส่วนต่างๆ จากนั้น พีระยานุเคราะห์มูลนิธิได้จัดส่งคณะครูเดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กก่อน เกณฑ์วัดพระแท่นดงรังวรวิหาร เพื่อรวบรวมข้อมูลในการด�ำเนินการรับศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กก่อนเกณฑ์ เข้ามาอยู่ในความอนุเคราะห์ของพีระยานุเคราะห์มูลนิธิ ������� update 01/02/60.indd 88-89

90 KANCHANABURI CENTER Pierra Navin Nursery Kanchanaburi Center Established on May 1, 1993, the Nursery of Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang Worawihan in Kanchanaburi was open and its buildings were used as a nursery. The first 3 classrooms of children were used as child care and development in support of the temple’s fund and subsidies from the Religious Affair Department. Later, on March 27, 1996, Phra Visuddhi Kanchanavibul, the abbot of the temple, on behalf of the Nursery of Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang Worawihan in Kanchanaburi, wrote the letter to Prof. Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnavin, the CEO of Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation to request support in all areas. As a result, the Foundation sent a group of teachers to visit the nursery and collected data to prepare for the nursery to receive the patronage of the Foundation. Having decided to be a patron, the CEO on behalf of the Foundation sent a group of staff to renovate and repair the buildings. The nursery was re-open in the name of the Pierra Navin Nursery on July 11, 1999, and it was officially open on July 11, 2000. The Pierra Navin Nursery of Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang Worawihan Kanchanaburi Center had been operated under the patronage of the Foundation from July 10, 2000 to November, 2015. ������� update 01/02/60.indd 90-91

Then the nursery was open on July 11, 1999 to implement child care and development in the name of Pierra Navin Nursery. Its official inauguration was held on July 10, 2000 and presided over by Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (Kiaw Upaseno), Abbot of Srakesa Rajavaramahavihara Temple in that period. From the year 1999 until the present with a total of 16 years, the teachers of Pierra Navin Nursery of Kanchanaburi Center has worked with determination, being sacrificed and dedicated their physical and inner strength and intelligence to look after and develop the children from low-income families to have knowledge and warmth, and to treat them equally as they are the “teachers with spirituality” according to the guidelines of Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation and the those of the President Prof. Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnavin. Throughout the years, the Foundation has given the financial support for the construction and renovation of school buildings, equipment and materials for teaching and learning arrangement, salary of the teachers and staff, and other expenses amounting to 7,077,748.00 baht without expecting any return. 96 However, since Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang Worawihan appointed a manager to control the Nursery without any notification to the Foundation for approval, the headteacher hasn’t been able to play any role and is now lacking the unity of working. Likewise, the teachers and staff are discouraged. Particularly, the reports on the operation of the center that used to be made by the center, based on its management system, to the Foundation for further submission to the Committee Chairman is not carried out anymore. This is because the Temple shows it intention to manage the child development center by themselves. Moreover, the Temple’s management absolutely come into conflict with the policies of the President and the objectives of the Foundation. For instance, the Foundation has never been informed about the receipt of monthly donations from the parents and donations from the annual offering robe ceremony held by Parent-Teacher Association of the Temple. Therefore, according to the general meeting of the Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation committee board, the committee has reached the resolution to abolish the patronage to the Pierra Navin Nursery of Kanchanaburi Center of Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang Worawihan at Phra Thaen Subdistrict of Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, effective on November 30, 2015 onwards. 99 สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กปฐมวัยพีระยา นาวิน ศูนย์ล�ำปาง ประวัติ แต่เดิมการไฟฟ้าส่วนภูมิภาค ซึ่งเป็นเจ้าของอาคาร จะท�ำการรื้อถอนอาคารนี้ออกไป แต่พระครูสิริปุญญาภิรัตน์ เจ้าอาวาสวัดศรีหลวง และนายเฉลิมพล ถ�้ำทอง ผู้ใหญ่บ้านหมู่ที่ 1 ต�ำบลแจ้ห่ม ได้น�ำงบประมาณของวัด จ�ำนวน 35,000 บาท ประมูลอาคารจากการไฟฟ้าส่วน ภูมิภาค เพื่อน�ำมาเป็นสถานที่ในการเลี้ยงเด็ก โดย นายเฉลิมพล ถ�้ำทอง เห็นความเดือดร้อน ของชาวบ้าน ที่ส่วนใหญ่มีฐานะยากจน ต้องประกอบอาชีพนอกบ้าน เช่น ท�ำไร่ ท�ำนา รับจ้าง ค้าขาย จึงไม่มีเวลาดูแลบุตรหลาน เด็กๆ ที่ผู้ปกครองไม่สามารถน�ำไปฝากเลี้ยง จึงมักวิ่งเล่นใน ละแวกนั้น หรือไม่ก็ต้องอยู่ตามล�ำพังที่บ้าน นายเฉลิมพล ถ�้ำทอง ผู้ใหญ่บ้าน จึงท�ำหนังสือขอความอนุเคราะห์มายัง ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อุกฤษ มงคลนาวิน ประธานกรรมการบริหารพีระยานุเคราะห์มูลนิธิ ขอให้จัดตั้งสถานรับเลี้ยง เด็กก่อนวัยเรียนพีระยา นาวิน ศูนย์ล�ำปางขึ้น โดยรองรับเด็กจากหลายหมู่บ้านในอ�ำเภอแจ้ห่ม เช่น บ้านสา บ้านทุ่งผึ้ง บ้านแป้น บ้านฮ่องลี่ บ้านม่วง และบ้านสาแพะ ท่านประธานฯ จึงเห็นสมควร และให้ความอนุเคราะห์ในด้านต่างๆ จนสามารถเปิด ท�ำการเลี้ยงดูและพัฒนาเด็ก เมื่อวันที่ 10 มกราคม 2543 และมีพิธีเปิดอย่างเป็นทางการ เมื่อวันที่ 3 มีนาคม 2543 โดยเปิดท�ำการเรื่อยมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน 6/13/17 11:26 AM

100 Pierra Navin Nursery Lampang Center The Provincial Electricity Authority which previously held the ownership of the building, where the nursery was operated, desired to demolish it, but Phra Khru Siripuyabhirat, the Abbot of Sriluang Temple and Mr. Chalermphol Thamthong, the Village Head of Moo 1, Chaehom Subdistrict took the Temple’s budgets of approximately 35,000 baht to bid to purchase the building from the Provincial Electricity Authority so as to use as a nursery. As Mr. Chalermphol Thamthong found the difficulties of the local people most of whom were poor and had to leave home to work in the rice fields, farms, markets, or any place, they, therefore, could not afford time to take care of their children and grandchildren. Those children who had no babysitter often played around their houses or stayed alone at home. Mr. Chalermphol Thamthong, the Village Head, consequently wrote to Prof. Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnavin, the CEO of Pierra Maternity & Child Welfare Foundation, to request for support to establish Pierra Navin Nursery, Lampang Center so as to admit children from villages of Chae Hom District such as Ban Sa, Ban Thungpung, Ban Pan, Ban Hongli, Ban Mueang, and Ban Sa Phae.
