Professor Erle Lim Chuen Hian

Vice Provost (Teaching Innovation & Quality)
National University of Singapore (NUS)

Biography

Professor Erle Lim Chuen Hian is Vice Provost (Teaching Innovation & Quality) at the
National University of Singapore (NUS). Currently a Senior Consultant Neurologist at the
National University Hospital, Assoc Prof Lim has been Associate Provost (Undergraduate
Education) since October 2016. He was Assistant Dean of Education at the Yong Loo Lin
School of Medicine, NUS from 2007 to 2010. Professor Lim graduated from NUS in 1990,
and obtained his Masters in Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 1997, also from NUS. In 2009,
he was appointed Fellow to the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow. He trained in
Neurology at the Singapore General Hospital, after which he completed his training in
Movement Disorders at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, under Professors
C Warren Olanow and Mitchell F Brin. Prof Lim’s subspecialty interest is in Movement
Disorders, focusing on the clinical applications of Botulinum toxin, Parkinson's disease,
Spasticity and Dystonia. He lectures on Neurology, Movement Disorders and Education
(Medical Education and Technology in Education) regionally and internationally, and
teaches techniques of Botulinum toxin injection using electromyographic guidance to
neurologists and physiatrists, regionally and internationally. He sits on the specialist
training committee in Neurology and the Neurology MCQ Committee of the Royal College
of Physicians, London.

Biography

Samuel Isaiah is a passionate and driven educator that strives to bridge the gap between
theory and practice by challenging the status quo and leading collaborative changes. His
expertise stems from the combination of a sound knowledge of pedagogy and its
execution, a critical grasp of data and research literature, as well as efficiency in planning
and execution. Samuel who was serving in a rural indigenous school in Pahang for 9 years,
is currently completing his master’s degree in educational policy under the illustrious
Fulbright scholarship. This award-winning educator who was recently named as the top
10 finalist of the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2020 believes that his prowess and
achievement stems from linking and translating frameworks and policies in relevance to
culture, context, and society.

Abstract

Mainstream education structures and contents provide little meaning for indigenous
communities throughout the world. In addition, systems do not cater to the specific needs
of indigenous communities with methodologies that does not appreciate the indigenous
perspective, thus rendering education meaningless. The indigenous view of education
also varies from the mainstream view as the quality of knowledge is holistic rather than
compartmentalized, teaching and learning methods are interactive and demonstrative
rather than instructive, and the social values that govern learning attitudes are co-
operative rather than competitive. Therefore, this presentation attempts to shed light on
the need to develop holistic, bottom-up, and organic education strategies inclusive of the
needs, wants, and perspective of indigenous communities.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, evolution towards borderless learning has been enhanced to solve
challenges of global learning in education. Innovative e-skilling and e-training of trainers (TOT) can
be implemented to revisit and revitalize Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), which is a
key element of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This implementation can be part of
education response to Covid-19. One of the initiatives in ESD is the introduction of green school
concept to teachers and students through online training. The e-training and e-skilling engage
teachers in a comprehensive and multi-session distributive learning process that builds the
knowledge and skills required to effectively educate students to deliver evidence-green schools
actions programs. This comprehensive learning process together with the rise and potential of e-
training need innovative approaches as catalysts for an effective learning process. However,
sudden shift from the classroom approach to e-learning poses many challenges due to lack of
internet access and electronic devices, limited online teaching and learning program, lack of
teacher’s skill on e-training and lack of funding. Therefore, creative and innovative e-skilling and e-
training programs through experiences, case studies, interventions, hands-on and problem-based
learning as well as various e-learning approaches such as internet-based learning, web-based
learning, digital learning, computeraided learning and interactive learning need to be offered to
promote and manage an effective online training by teachers to the students at various level of
education especially in developing countries like Malaysia.

Kepimpinan wanita dari perspektif pendidikan tinggi negara telah menjadi satu trend penyelidikan
di seluruh dunia termasuk Malaysia. Jurang gender yang jelas pada kedudukan kepimpinan dalam
institusi pendidikan terutama pendidikan tinggi dan cabaran profesionalisme bagi wanita memacu
laluan kerjaya mereka dalam mengisi jawatan pengurusan kanan di universiti perlu diberikan
perhatian.Gaya kepimpinan yang pelbagai dalam organisasi memberikan cabaran kepada
pemimpin wanita untuk memilih gaya kepimpinan yang bersesuaian dengan keperluan organisasi.
Selain itu, panduan manual & abstrak di dalam institusi yang kurang interaktif memberi ruang untuk

pembangunan model pemimpin wanita secara model 3 Dimensi (3D) yang boleh dimuatnaik ke
dalam aplikasi telefon pintar android dan IOS. Dapatan kajian ini akan memperkenalkan
pembangunan awal model 3D pemimpin wanita melalui “Augmented Reality” menggunakan
perisian Assemblr Studio Versi 101.Objektif kajian adalah untuk mempromosikan kepimpinan
transformasi yang didapati diamalkan oleh 8 orang pemimpin akademik wanita melalui model 3D
bagi meningkatkan pemahaman berkaitan model pemimpin wanita dalam menangani cabaran
kepemimpinan akademik di universiti. Dapatan temubual semi struktur yang melibatkan lapan
orang pemimpin akademik wanita di barisan pengurusan pertengahan telah menghasilkan tema-
tema berkaitan (i) dimensi kepimpinan transformasi (ii)cabaran kepimpinan akademik wanita dan
(iii)motivasi untuk memimpin. Keunikan produk ini adalah model 3D pemimpin wanita dapat
memberikan gambaran berbentuk visual berkaitan pengalaman pemimpin wanita dalam
mengamalkan kepimpinan transformasi di universiti serta cabaran yang dihadapi. Produk ini
diharapkan dapat memberi manfaat kepada komuniti universiti dan negara dalam usaha untuk
meningkatkan pemimpin wanita akademik dalam komposisi pengurusan kanan. Produk ini juga
boleh dikomersialkan ke agensi seperti Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi, Kementerian Wanita dan
Keluarga dan NGO Kepimpinan Wanita dengan menerbitkan buku panduan Model Kepimpinan
Akademik Wanita Universiti Awam, Malaysia.

Kesusasteraan Melayu Tradisional sebagai satu bidang yang ditawarkan kepada pelajar Ilmu
Kemanusiaan di peringkat institusi pengajian tinggi seringkali disalahtafsir sebagai membosankan
dan tidak bermanfaat untuk dipelajari. Alasan utama yang diberikan Oleh pelajar adalah mereka
terpaksa membaca teks yang panjang dipenuhi lenggok bahasa Melayu lama yang menyukarkan
pemahaman mereka kepada khazanah warisan bangsa inii Prejudis ini menyebabkan pelajar lebih
terarah mengambil kursus bukan sastera tulen. Jika fenomena ini berterusan. dikhuatiri perasaan
cinta kepada ilmu khazanah bangsa akan terhakis dan luput dalam jangka masa panjang. Justeru,
satu tindakan proaktif dan serius perlu dilakukan agar kursus yang merupakan tunggak utama
pembentukan jati diri masyarakat ini dapat terus diminati, dipelajari serta dikaji secara saintifik dan
komprehensif Oleh generasi muda sebagai pewaris negara khususnya, Ini bermakna asas untuk
menarik minat pelajar bermula dengan memahami jalan cerita daripada pelbagai genre
Kesusasteraan Melayu Tradisional menggunakan kaedah menarik iaitu 'multiplatform storytelling'.
Kini teks sastera diasosiasikan dengan kepelbagaian cara penyampaian (multiplatform storytelling)
agar kandungannya dapat difahami dengan mudah Oleh para pelajar seiring dengan
perkembangan zaman. Kaedah ini diterapkan kepada pelajar daripada dua kursus iaitu
Kesusasteraan Hikayat (BBK3310) dan Kesusasteraan Panji (BBK3313) di Jabatan Bahasa Melayu,
Fakulti Bahasa Moden dan Komunikasi, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Para pelajar dibahagikan
mengikut kumpulan berdasarkan sesebuah teks daripada genre tertentu. Menerusi kaedah
'multiplatform storytelling' aktiviti pertama yang dijalankan adalah membaca teks secara 'skimming
i agar dapat mengenalpasti fakta-fakta penting dalam teks. Kernudian, pelajar akan memilih
pelbagai bentuk 'platfornü penceritaan Yang menarik untuk menyampaikan keseluruhan atau

hanya mengetengahkan isu-isu menarik daripada teks tersebut. Akhirnya, pelajar menggunakan
kreativiti mereka untuk mengolah jalan cerita daripada teks kajian secara menarik berdasarkan
'platform' yang dipilih. Hasilnya satu teks dapat diceritakan atau dipersembahkan menggunakan
pelbagai *platform' (multiplatform) seperti lakonan, alunan syair, Powtoon dan QR eode Yang
kernudiannya akan dimuatkan dalam youtabe dan instagram untuk paparan khalayak masyarakat
Yang lebih luas. Menerusi aktiviti-aktiviti yang menyeronokkan menggunakan kaedah
'multiplatform storytelling' ini, didapati para pelajar dapat memahami teks dengan mudah serta
menunjukkan minat yang tinggi dalam pernbelajaran Kesusasteraan Melayu Tradisional. Tambah
meyakinkan, pelajar mampu mengkritik teks menerusi pembentangan dengan lebih komprehensif
dalam memenuhi hasil pembelajaran (LO) kursus ini. Hasilnya, minat generasi muda terhadap
khazanah warisan bangsa yang amat berharga ini dapat terus dipupuk kerana merekalah pewaris
negara yang dapat menghidupkan kelangsungan pengkajian khazanah ini pada masa akan datang.

Keperluan penerbitan manuskrip dalam jurnal berindeks bagi pelajar program Doktor Falsafah dan
Sarjana merupakan salah satu kriteria pengukuran terhadap prestasi penyelidikan calon dalam
usaha untuk bergraduat. Bagi memperkasa budaya penerbitan UKM, penganjuran tiga siri Klinik
Manuskrip JSK 2020 berjaya dilaksanakan pada bulan Mac, Jun dan Ogos 2020 yang telah disertai
oleh 25 pelajar siswazah dengan 30 buah manuskrip. Penilaian dan penambahbaikan deraf
manuskrip peserta diselia oleh Jawatankuasa Akademik Siswazah JSK serta dibimbing oleh dua
orang penulis prolifik JSK yang bertindak sebagai fasilitator. Pengisian klinik ini bermula dengan siri
ceramah oleh Ketua Editor Jurnal Sains Malaysiana yang memfokuskan kepada pembedahan
setiap bahagian dalam deraf manuskrip bagi mendedahkan teknik-teknik penulisan, strategi bagi
memenangi hati editor dalam penulisan dan pemilihan jurnal yang berimpak untuk penerbitan.
Seterusnya, pelajar akan dibantu secara perseorangan untuk meningkatkan kemahiran penulisan
bagi penghasilan artikel yang berkualiti. Usaha ini telah menampakkan hasil yag sangat
memberangsangkan dengan penerbitan berindeks 17 manuskrip dalam jurnal berimpak tinggi
antarabangsa WOS, di mana 11 darinya berjaya menembusi jurnal Q1. Antaranya adalah
Chemospheres, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry,
Journal of Solid State Chemistry dan Sensors. Sebanyak 13 manuskrip masih dalam peringkat
pewasitan dan peringkat akhir penulisan. Walaupun berdepan dengan pandemik Covid 19, Klinik
Manuskrip JSK 2020 ini dapat dilaksanakan untuk membantu pelajar siswazah JSK dalam
menghasilkan penerbitan berindeks berimpak tinggi. Diharapkan usaha dan inisiatif ini dapat
menyumbang kepada peningkatan penulisan dalam jurnal berindeks bagi menyerlah lagi
kesarjanaan ilmu pelajar siswazah.

Being the holy book of Muslim, Al Quran serve as the main guidance in Muslim’s life that must be
learnt through reciting and understanding its meaning. However, not all Muslims are able to recite
Al-Quran easily especially for people with blindness. Therefore, Braille code has been invented to
helps this society in their learning environment particularly towards Muslims in reciting Al-Quran
through Braille Quran book. Despite the advancement technology, imprint paper of braille Quran
embrace of massive characters which troublesome in reading and highly to breaking. Therefore,
fun approach is essential for them to learn the braille code easily especially for beginners or blind
people. The aim of this study was implemented the additive manufacturing technology specifically
three-dimensional (3D) printing to create Hijaiyyah Braille stripe which embedded in 3D printed
cassette model. The 3D printed cassette was applied to the Braille class to study the efficiency of
the cassette towards the blind’s children. A group of beginners were attended a Braille class which
accommodate with few activities through the implementation of 3D printed Braille cassette. The
applying 3D printing technology in the invention teaching tool for blind children has attract
beginners in learning Braille Quran and ultimately this engaging game learning approach is perfect
for blind and sighted people to enjoy together while develop vocabulary with the addition of low-
cost 3D printing technology.

Pengajaran merupakan salah satu elemen utama dalam penilaian tugasan seorang pensyarah di
Universiti. Sehingga kini, penentuan dan pengiraan beban pengajaran seorang pensyarah
ditentukan dengan unit sesuatu kursus yang diajar. Walabagaimanapun, pengiraan berdasarkan
unit kursus ini merujuk kepada unit beban pelajar dan tidak menggambarkan beban sebenar

menyeluruh ini menyebabkan penilaian tahunan dalam pengajaran pensyarah di fakulti lebih
subjektif berbanding penilaian penyelidikan dan perkhidmatan yang lebih objektif.Oleh itu, satu
aplikasi berasaskan Google Sheet telah dibangunkan untuk merekod dan mengira beban
pengajaran pensyarah mengikut kriteria dan skor yang dipersetujui di peringkat fakulti. Aplikasi ini
merentas beberapa gugusan akademik dalam Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi dan dikawal selia oleh
satu jawatan kuasa tetap di peringkat fakulti. Dalam aplikasi ini, penyelaras kursus akan mengisi

maklumat jam pengajaran pensyarah yang terlibat dalam kursus masing-masing. Aplikasi ini
seterusnya akan mengira secara langsung, skor atau unit beban yang ditanggung oleh pensyarah
untuk setiap kursus yang diajar. Maklumat ini seterusnya digabung dan dirumuskan dalam
beberapa senarai laporan yang menunjukkan maklumat beban pensyarah dalam semua kursus
dalam setiap gugusan. Selain itu, rumusan jam pengajaran dan kepatuhan perjalanan kursus dapat
juga dijana dan dipantau di peringkat gugusan dan fakulti. Maklumat-maklumat ini seterusnya
dipautkan secara langsung kepada aplikasi pemantauan fakulti yang dibangunkan. Di peringkat
fakulti, pentadbir boleh menyemak beban pengajaran ahli fakulti tanpa memerlukan setiap
gugusan menghantar rekod secara berkala. Aplikasi ini akan menjimatkan masa yang diperlukan
oleh pentadbir dan penyelaras program untuk menyediakan laporan beban pengajaran ahli yang
akan digunakan untuk tujuan penilaian dan pemantauan. Aplikasi ini juga mudah dan percuma
kerana dibangunkan menggunakan Google Sheet. Kesimpulannya, templat beban pengajaran
fakulti ini berupaya dilaksanakan untuk mengurus tadbir, menyemak imbang dan menyelaraskan
agihan beban pengajaran antara pensyarah merentas jabatan.

Akibat wabak COVID-19 yang menular di seluruh dunia termasuk Malaysia hampir 2 tahun, pelajar
di seluruh Malaysia terpaksa tinggal di rumah dan menyertai pengajaran dan pembelajaran secara
dalam talian di rumah. Pengajaran dan pembelajaran di rumah ini berlaku tanpa guru yang
berdedikasi dan persekitaran pembelajaran yang kurang memuaskan. Oleh itu, kualiti pendidikan
di seluruh dunia malah juga di Malaysia mengalami penurunan yang sangat ketara. Matlamat kami
adalah untuk merancang aplikasi yang dapat berfungsi sebagai pusat pendidikan untuk pelajar dan
guru bagi digunakan dimana-mana sahaja mengikut sukatan pelajaran Malaysia. Idea ini bermula
daripada pemerhatian kami apabila terdapat perkara yang kurang memuaskannya dalam
perkhidmatan sistem pendidikan digital yang sedia ada seperti Google Classroom. Pada masa ini,
sumber yang tersedia untuk pelajar terdiri daripada blog dan laman web yang tersebar, tidak
lengkap atau tidak lagi tersedia. Sumber lain, seperti Khan Academy, tidak dirancang dengan
mempertimbangkan sukatan pelajaran Malaysia. Melalui hipotesis kami, penggunaan warna dan
reka bentuk tertentu dalam persekitaran pembelajaran akan membantu menarik minat pelajar. Idea
pembentukan aplikasi ini juga akan mempunyai ciri-ciri berikut; pengajaran dan pembelajaran serta
ujian yang telah dibuat berdasarkan sukatan pelajaran Malaysia, penghasilan kelas secara ats talian,
nota matapelajaran, perkongsian video pembelajaran, dan tugasan yang akan diberikan oleh guru.
Aplikasi ini juga akan mempunyai kalendar dengan tarikh akhir tugasan, senarai tugasan yang harus
dilakukan, permainan pendidikan dan banyak lagi. Dengan kemahiran pengaturcaraan kami, kami
akan menggunakan program bahasa Java dalam Perisian Android Studio untuk mengembangkan
projek kami. Aplikasi ini akan dirancang dengan mempertimbangkan pelajar sekolah rendah dan
sekolah menengah. Oleh itu, pemerhatian secara berterusan terhadap pelajar dalam penggunaan
aplikasi ini akan menjadi fokus utama reka bentuk aplikasi ini. Penyelidikan tentang bagaimana
menarik minat pelajar akan dilakukan dari semasa ke semasa semasa pembinaan untuk mencari
cara terbaik bagi menghasilkan aplikasi yang lebih menarik untuk pelajar. Potensi pengaruh

psikologi seperti warna juga akan dipertimbangkan semasa merancang aplikasi ini. Kami berharap
ini akan mendorong perkembangan lebih lanjut tentang idea aplikasi ini pada masa akan datang
bukan sahaja dapat membantu pelajar di Malaysia, tetapi juga pelajar dari seluruh dunia.

The widespread prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic has affected educators and parents alike. Due
to the sudden closure of schools, students are missing social interaction which is vital for better
learning and grooming while most schools have started online classes. This has become a tough
routine for the parents working online at home since they have to ensure their children’s education.
Thus, parents and students faced problems in following the learning timetable, especially for those
in rural area. This smart application was developed to facilitate teachers, students and parents to
attend online classes according to the PdPR 2.0 (Home-Based Learning) timetable based on MOE
guidelines. This application was developed in Android version which can be downloaded and
installed in smart phones. Through this application, tutorial materials and notes can be accessed
easily and systematically according to subjects. Besides, parents can monitor their children’s
learning progression and attendance easily. Addressing these contextual challenges, it fulfils the
requirement gap for remote learning.

Team-based Learning (TBL) has been a worldwide educational strategy used to inculcate self-
directed and active learning. The fallout is a new breed of undergraduates undergoing constrained
and compromised ways of teaching and learning via online platforms amidst this COVID-19
pandemic. Hence, this innovation aims to explore the application of active learning among
undergraduate students through virtual TBL. In this pilot study, the concept of genomics
technology is introduced virtually through utilizing Microsoft Teams and Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia (UKM) Learning Management System (UKMFolioTM) while preserving the principles of
TBL. Application-based learning is emphasized to apply the fundamental knowledge learnt during
the preparatory phase through team discussions and subsequent pitching presentation. Our study
indicates no significant difference (p=0.404) in the mean score of the students that underwent
conventional face to face TBL sessions and virtual TBL. This suggests that active and self-directed
learning can be incorporated through virtual means with reproducible excellent outcomes as to
conventional face to face TBL.Nevertheless, issues concerning internet stability and inadequate
content experts need to be addressed if we were to embark on successful virtual teaching and
learning.

The existence of local government has acted as a facilitator on behalf of the upper level of
government which is the Federal government and the State government because the roles and
responsibilities performed by the local government covers extensive scope and essential to the
nation's development. The local government or also known as the local authority is placed at the
third tier and become the most important unit in the government's administrative structure in
Malaysia after the Federal and the State government. Local government is fully responsible in
providing it’s main function for the delivery of services as well as the provision of basic facilities to
the local resident within its administrative area that has been determined by the state government.
This study focused on students' learning aids needed to understand the local government subject
offered to Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies (FSPPP) students. With the creation
of Workbook - Local Government Speedy Revision, it helps students to have a better information
and understanding about the local government system in Malaysia. Workbook - Local Government
Speedy Revision is a simple but extensive exercise book that consist of multiple types of questions
and information from topic 1 to topic 9 accordingly to the Local government syllabus. In addition,
this new learning material will assist the students to improve their information and understanding
about the Local Government subject and do revision in a fastest way through different types of
exercising included in the workbook.

Time Management Strategies: Improving Active Participation and

Skills in Sciences Class for Gifted and Talented Students

Teachers are often challenged in ensuring students to focus and actively engaged throughout the
class. For sciences classes, hands on activity and scientific experiments are a part of the syllabus.
If a lesson is not carefully planned, the students might lose their interests in class. Therefore, an
efficient time management during the class period is crucial for students to actively engaged with
the activity and have an optimum learning experience. At Kolej GENIUS@Pintar Negara, each
science classes are provided with a period of one hour and 20 minutes, one day per week. The time
breakdown in which suitable for differentiated lesson plan has been practised for our gifted and
talented students. In the first 15 minutes, teachers and students will be having an orientation phase.
Then, the students are grouped according to their current understanding (basic, intermediate,
advanced) for the activity or experiments within 45 minutes. Teachers are required to plan the
activity that suits the students’ ability. At the end of the class, the teacher will use 15 minutes to
summarize the activity and listen to students’ feedback. Before ending the class, students are given

an exit ticket for the students to prepare for the next lesson. With this wellplanned time
management in science classes, it will increase student’s active participation and concentration
through out the lesson period. Lesson objectives are also achievable for all students regardless of
their various learning abilities in a single class. This will increase the quality of teaching and learning
in a long-period class.

Salah satu cabaran utama dalam pendidikan Bahasa Arab hari ini adalah kaedah pengajaran dan
pembelajaran yang masih bersifat tradisional. Justeru itu, suatu anjakan paradigma terhadap reka
bentuk dan kaedah pembelajaran kendiri dalam system pendidikan perlu dilaksanakan bagi
memenuhi keperluan pendidikan seiring dengan revolusi industri 4.0 di era pandemik kini.
Teknologi Augmented Reality (AR) atau Realiti Terimbuh dilihat berpotensi meningkatkan
kefahaman melalui isi kandungan pembelajaran, meningkatkan tahap minat pelajar serta
memberikan kesan yang positif melalui pengalaman pembelajaran terutamanya bagi pelajar yang
lemah.Oleh yang demikian, kajian ini bertujuan untuk membangunkan suatu Aplikasi Pembelajaran
Kosa Kata Bahasa Arab AR-Faseh Berasaskan Teknologi Realiti Terimbuh bagi meningkatkan
penguasaan saiz kosa kata pelajar melalui pendekatan yang interaktif dan menyeronokkan. Reka
bentuk dan pembangunan aplikasi ini adalah berdasarkan kepada penyelidikan reka bentuk dan
Pembangunan (Design and Development Research). Manakala proses mengarang jalan cerita
(story board) dan pembangunkan kandungan aplikasi mudah alih ini adalah berdasarakn Unity,
Vuforia dan Adobe Photoshop. Output daripada kajian ini membentuk sebuah Aplikasi
Pembelajaran Kosa Kata Bahasa Arab AR-Faseh Berasaskan Teknologi Realiti Terimbuh yang
mampu menarik minat pelajar untuk mempelajari bahasa Arab di samping melahirkan graduan
yang kompeten dalam bahasa Arab bagi memenuhi pasaran kerja dalam revolusi industri 4.0.

Percambahan teknologi dan kewujudan pelbagai aplikasi pada era masa kini sedikit sebanyak telah
menghakis minat golongan muda kepada seni kesusasteraan. Sehubungan dengan itu, kursus
LMCR1202 Penulisan Pantun Kreatif telah mengambil langkah untuk menarik semula minat
golongan muda khususnya pelajar Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) melalui kaedah penilaian

kursus. Melalui kursus Penulisan Pantun Kreatif ini, pelajar diberikan pendedahan tentang cara
menyampaikan pantun secara kreatif seperti dalam bentuk nyanyian dan lakonan yang berbeza
daripada kebiasaannya iaitu hanya sekadar membacakannya. Kaedah berpantun dalam lakonan
dan nyanyian merupakan salah satu bentuk penilaian yang melibatkan semua pelajar yang
mengikuti kursus ini. Untuk mendapatkan maklum balas pelajar berkenaan kaedah penilaian ini,
borang soal selidik telah dijadikan instrumen penilaian. Kaedah penilaian ini akan melihat peranan
pantun sebagai lirik dalam nyanyian lagu dan dialog dalam pengucapan drama yang menarik.
Melalui dapatan soal selidik, kekurangan dan kelompangan dalam bentuk penilaian dapat dikenal
pasti dan penambahbaikan boleh dijalankan dari semasa ke semasa pada masa akan datang.

Pembelajaran atas talian merupakan pendekatan utama pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) masa
kini. Kekangan bersemuka akibat Pandemik COVID-19 telah membuka ruang untuk
membangunkan alat/kaedah PdP secara atas talian yang mempunyai ciri-ciri interaktif,
menyeronokkan serta amat kondusif untuk pelajar memperkukuhkan pengetahuan. E-Games of
Genetic Inheritance telah dibangunkan dan diperkenalkan kepada pelajar prasiswazah Sains
Bioperubatan yang mengambil kursus Penyakit Genetik bagi mempelajari topik salasilah pewarisan
genetik. Dalam pendekatan ini, pelajar dibahagikan kepada kumpulan kecil dan ditugaskan untuk
menyediakan kajian kes berdasarkan penyakit genetik, soalan berkaitan kes dan skema jawapan
dengan pemantauan pensyarah pada setiap kumpulan. Semasa hari pertandingan, Microsoft Team
telah digunakan sebagai pelantar atas talian bagi membolehkan kesemua pelajar terlibat secara
langsung. Setiap kumpulan pelajar berpeluang menjadi kumpulan hos yang perlu memaparkan
kajian kes penyakit genetik berserta soalan, manakala kumpulan lain akan bertanding untuk
menjawab soalan yang dikemukan oleh hos dan melukis salasilah pewarisan secara atas talian
dalam masa yang ditetapkan. Sebanyak empat kes dipertandingkan bagi setiap pusingan.
Perbincangan mengenai soalan dijalankan sebagai aktiviti PdP dan markah dikira di akhir setiap
pusingan. Dua pusingan dijalankan bagi membolehkan setiap kumpulan mendapat peluang
menjadi hos dan bermain untuk mengumpul markah di samping mendalami pengetahuan
mengenai pelbagai jenis penyakit genetik. Maklumbalas menunjukkan pemahaman pelajar
berkenaan topik ini meningkat, dan pelajar didapati berkebolehan untuk melukis serta
menganalisis salasilah atau susur-galur penyakit pewarisan genetik. Selain itu, aktiviti ini membantu
mengasah kemahiran bekerja dalam kumpulan dan pengorganisasian. Persaingan sihat untuk
mengumpul markah tertinggi sebagai pemenang menimbulkan suasana menyeronokkan dan
menaikkan semangat di kalangan pelajar. Kesimpulannya, aktiviti ini berjaya menyampaikan ilmu
salasilah perwarisan genetik secara atas talian melibatkan penyertaan kesemua pelajar yang
sebelum ini dijalankan secara bersemuka. Rekaan ini telah difailkan dalam perlindungan harta

Serangan pandemik memberi impak yang besar kepada dunia pendidikan. Impak ini telah menjurus
kepada anjakan paradigma dalam dunia pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP). Inovasi ini bertujuan
untuk memberikan fleksibiliti dalam PdP Biologi semasa pandemik. Kemudahan dan kelengkapan
teknologi dan internet merupakan antara isu utama yang dihadapi pelajar. Sehubugan dengan itu,
Model HOODI dicadangkan untuk memastikan PdP khusunya Biologi berlangsung sepanjang
pandemik tanpa isu keciciran pelajar. Model HOODI berasaskan kepada berikut, iaitu H: Home-
based learning, pembelajaran dari rumah memberi fleksibiliti kepada pelajar untuk mempelajari
Biologi secara teori dan amali dengan menggunakan sumber yang sedia ada semasa PKP dari
rumah. OO: Online - Offline Learning, pembelajaran dalam dan luar talian pula menggalakkan
pembelajaran secara konsisten disamping dapat memupuk kemahiran pembelajaran kendiri dalam
kalangan pelajar. Dua pendekatan ini digunakan agar pembelajaran dapat diteruskan disamping
kekangan yang dihadapi pelajar. Penggunaan pelantar sedia ada untuk PdP seperti Google Meet
dan media sosial seperti Tik Tok akan diperkasakan lagi untuk mewujudkan suasana pembelajaran
dalam talian yang positif. Servis Pesanan Ringkas (SMS) dan program Celik Biologi juga
dicadangkan kepada pelajar agar pembelajaran di luar talian berlangsung bagi pelajar yang tiada
capaian internet dan peranti dari sumber yang mudah dicapai. D: Differentiated instruction (DI)
merupakan pengajaran terbeza memberi kebolenturan kepada pendidik dan pelajar daripada segi
kandungan pembelajaran, proses, produk, persekitaran dan penilaian pelajar. Pedagogi ini dapat
memenuhi keperluan kepelbagaian pembelajaran pelajar berdasarkan tahap keupayaan kognitif,
profil pembelajaran dan kebajikan/kemudahan pelajar. I: Integrated curriculum, pembelajaran
merentas kurikulum ini dapat meningkatkan pembelajaran bermakna dan pemahaman pelajar
dalam pembelajaran Biologi dan subjek lain seperti Bahasa Inggeris dan Pendidikan Agama Islam.
Ia juga dapat mengurangkan beban pendidik dan pelajar dengan mengintegrasikan kurikulum dan
tugasan merentas topik dan subjek, Model HOODI ini boleh diaplikasikan untuk semua subjek dan
semua tahap pengajian dari pendidikan sekolah rendah sehinggalah ke pendidikan tinggi dalam
musim pandemik.

Pemahaman asas sudut dan bering berbantukan Bahan Bantuan Mengajar, (BBM) yang dinamakan

Basic Surv Comp Tool berupaya meningkatkan pengetahuan pelajar khususnya pelajar semester
1 program Diploma Geomatik (DGU) Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah (PTSB). Alat ini dicipta
untuk membantu pelajar lebih memahami konsep sudut dan bering yang telah dipelajari di
peringkat sekolah. Ini adalah kerana pelajar menghadapi kesukaran untuk membezakan sudut dan
bering yang mana kedua-duanya mempunyai definisi yang berbeza. Pelajar juga menghadapi
kesukaran dalam menentukan operasi matematik untuk menghitung sudut dan bering. Maka
dengan itu, keperluan BBM ini dihasilkan adalah daripada hasil tinjauan yang dilakukan oleh 22
orang pelajar DGU1A Sesi Disember 2020 yang mana 95% pelajar bersetuju supaya BBM ini
dihasilkan. Ini adalah kerana, BBM ini direka bagi memudahkan pelajar lebih memahami melalui
deria sentuhan dan lihat. Daripada analisis kajian didapati prestasi yang ditunjukkan oleh 2
kumpulan terlihat berbeza yang mana perbezaan sebanyak 79% lebih tinggi oleh kumpulan yang
menggunakan BBM berbanding kumpulan yang tidak menggunakan BBM ini. Melalui analisis
keberkesanan BBM ini menunjukkan 96% pelajar bersetuju BBM ini praktikal digunakan kepada
semua pelajar Geomatik khususnya.

‘AReal-Vocab’: The New À La Mode of English Vocabulary Learning

for Children with Autism

American Psychiatric Association defined autism spectrum disorder as a neurological disorder due
to which diagnosed child may face difficulty in social communication or have a repeated or
restricted set of behaviours. Learners with autism are mostly visual strategy learners and they tend
to learn better through pictures and images. Due to their cognitive disabilities, most learners with
autism struggle to acquire new vocabulary and with the existence of fourth industrial revolution,
the use of technology is no longer a stranger to the education field. Hence, the use of augmented
reality technology is considered in this study as past literature has proven that augmented reality
technology could help to provide autism learners with a more meaningful learning session. In
conjunction to that, this innovation is aimed at developing a mobile augmented reality application
named ‘AReal-Vocab’ to help learners with autism, which then later to be employed as an
intervention to autism learners in their English vocabulary learning process. The developed mobile
augmented reality application is employed to two autism learner aged 7 to 10 years old to discover
their acceptance towards the developed mobile application. Based on the findings, it can be seen
that AReal-Vocab application has given a significant impact on autism learners’ language learning

The instrument briefing session of laboratory instruments needs monitoring and supervision;
however, the learning may be personal and manipulative. Additionally, consistency in the briefing
by different supervisors and a laboratory environment are also a major setback. Therefore, there is
a need for new ways of the briefing that could minimize the problem of traditional briefing. It is
evident from the literature that technology-enhanced learning (TEL) can enhance educational
outcomes. In the conventional method, the content was delivered through recitation and
memorization techniques, whereas in the current scenario the teaching involves a more interactive
method for better understanding. reverent video and material was collected on working of each
instrument and e-briefing tools was developed along with trigger image via zappar app.
Subsequently, the instruction template of the usage of instruments was designed and feedback of
users was collected. The feedback was collected form postgraduate students, Bachelor of
pharmacy (Hons.) and Bachelor of science, pharmaceutical chemistry students (N=46), who used
laboratory instrument during their research and laboratory sessions. Study questionnaire was
developed from literature on AR and obtained data was analysed by using SPSS 18.Results showed
that 70.6% were agreed/strongly agreed on the benefits of the use of e-briefing tool during and
after the use of instruments, and they were agreed with the fact that it was also beneficial to recall
the steps involved in operating the instrument. Results showed that 71.7% of students were in strong
agreement with the fact that e-briefing tool tools are good for enhancing their competency and
knowledge along with the understanding of instrument operation in a better way. A good
percentage of students (67%) were believed that e-briefing tool enhanced their self-efficacy in
learning along with boosting in confidence to handle the laboratory equipment. Students mention
that the length of video and instruction for use was clear and understandable. The potential of e-
briefing tool use in practical and research could produce promising outcomes. Effective
implementation of this tool could improve student’s engagement, understanding and learning
process on practical skills and could effectively impact the quality of teaching and learning.

Reconstruct Practical Learning Experience through Digital Learning

Reconstruct the Practical Experiential Learning! The pandemic situation has shifted learning to
online. Practical lab work and student professional development activities have become much
more challenging. Students are disconnected from the actual hardware and disrupting the
psychomotor learning domain. Research suggested that students’ resilience is related to coping
with academic performance and university (McLafferty et al., (2012)). Two initiatives were
implemented in engaging multiple learning styles for practical lab work and remote professional
development. The PowerPoint (PPT)-Lab, an all-inone virtual kit. A cost-effective tool embedded
with innovative technology enables students to work with 3D virtual computer-aided design
models of experimental hardware setup even off-campus. Experiencing a similar experimental
work in collecting data, but virtually. This prevents plagiarism, especially in big class sizes, when
students were given similar sets of raw data in common online lab practice. PPT-Lab was
implemented across three campuses (Malaysia, Dubai, Edinburgh) in a course with 213 students,
and knowledge transferable to another lab. The inspiration continued with collaboration across
campuses to enhance professional development by building a resilient community through digital
learning. Supported by the QAA Enhancement theme fund, the student-led project focusses on
remote development of programming skills, ideation, and pitching in addressing the Sustainable
Development Goals. Accompanied by resilient studies on student community through different
roles as project coordinators, trainers, and participants. 45 local and international students were
engaged through this online prototype pitching competition and partnership with industries. Both
initiatives received positive outcomes. Survey shows >90% can conduct the same practical lab
through PPT-Lab and received an average rating, 8/10 excellent experience. Highlighting the cool
feature and reliability of collected data. >90% had an excellent hands-on learning experience with
an 8.3/10 rating for the cognitive learning in the resilient project. Survey captured a fun experience
and satisfaction on the digitalisation of their creativity.

Gamification refers to the employment of game design elements in non-game contexts and this
concept has seen its cruciality portrayed in the education context. Previous studies focused heavily
on the development of gamification applications in healthcare clinical learning. In this pilot study, a
prototype model was developed to facilitate the pre-clinical learning experience of the
radiotherapy undergraduates from Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy of Universiti Kebangsaan

Malaysia (UKM). The learning model was designed in accordance with the learning outcome of the
Radiotherapy Treatment Planning (RTP) course specifically focusing on patient positioning and
immobilization device placement. A 3D radiotherapy Virtual Radiotherapy Learning Application
(VRLA) realistic models were created Visual StudioTM & blenderTM with final game exportation via
UnityTM software. A BETA test run was performed via online survey to evaluate acceptance and
engagement of users towards the model. The prototype of game model was developed with case
emphasis on the lung, breast, and male reproductive region. A total of 22 participants consisting of
internal academicians (IA) and students from PDR took part in the pilot study to test the model. The
user’s acceptance towards the game model was generally positive. Responses on the user
engagement were positive among students, with a rather neutral response revealed among the
academic group. The game model developed proved its utility to be effective for pre-clinical
learning. Future prototype improvement will include amendment of the game story flow as well as
the addition of appropriate game elements to enhance engagement.

Makmal di institusi pengajian tinggi dan pusat penyelidikan mempunyai pelbagai bahan kimia dan
alatan yang berisiko tinggi terhadap keselamatan pengguna makmal. Walaupun pensyarah,
penyelidik dan pelajar selalu ditekankan mengenai aspek keselamatan makmal, sehingga kini
masih tiada kursus induksi yang tersusun lagi menyeluruh serta yang mempunyai pentaksiran yang
jelas bagi menilai tahap kompetensi sebelum memulakan aktiviti makmal. Ini adalah penting kerana
pengguna yang mahir dalam tadbir urus makmal, termasuk pengendalian bahan kimia dan alatan
berisiko tinggi, boleh mengelakkan insiden makmal yang serius serta mampu menjimatkan kos
penyelenggaraan alat dalam jangka masa panjang. Institut Biologi Sistem (INBIOSIS) telah
mewujudkan satu sistem inovasi bagi melatih dan menilai kompetensi pengguna makmal yang
dinamakan Induksi Keselamatan Makmal Dalam Talian (IKeM©) (Nombor fail eIPR: UKM.IKB.800-
4/1/3784). Ia telah dibangunkan dalam sistem pelayan INBIOSIS menggunakan perisian XAMPP,
rangka kerja Yii dan bahasa pengaturcaraan PHP. Kursus tersebut boleh dicapai di laman sesawang
http://www.INBIOSIS.ukm.edu.my/portal/. Pengguna boleh mendaftar masuk sebagai pengguna
baharu dan memilih “IKeM” daripada paparan menu navigasi utama. Terdapat 14 modul terpilih
yang merangkumi pengenalan kepada makmal dan garis panduan keselamatan, garis panduan
penggunaan bahan kimia dan pelupusan sisa, prosedur penggunaan alat dan fasiliti makmal serta
prosedur pematuhan SOP untuk COVID-19. Kursus ini disampaikan melalui video oleh pegawai
yang bertanggungjawab bagi setiap aspek keselamatan dan salinan lembut untuk rujukan
pengguna juga disediakan. Di akhir kursus, penilaian terhadap kefahaman pengguna dan
keberkesanan latihan akan ditaksir melalui kuiz interaktif yang mana pengguna tersebut akan
memperoleh sijil kelulusan sebagai pengiktirafan sebelum dibenarkan untuk menjalankan aktiviti

makmal. Sistem IKeM© ini boleh dikembangkan untuk mana-mana makmal penyelidikan dan
boleh disesuaikan mengikut keperluan institusi tersebut. Secara kesimpulannya, sistem IkeM© ini
adalah satu sistem yang komprehensif dan fleksibel serta boleh mentransformasikan latihan dan
penilaian pengguna makmal di alaf baharu ini untuk meningkatkan kesedaran mengenai
keselamatan makmal.

Funlinguistics For Beginners: Ideas For Online Class Activities

Online learning can be challenging, especially to make students participate actively in the learning
session. Students prefer to 'hide' by switching off the camera and microphone on their laptops
throughout the learning session. Even during activity time, only the regular ones will respond, and
many prefer to be present silently. Getting students to engage actively is indeed challenging for
many instructors. They need to plan the lessons and activities creatively to motivate the students
to learn and eventually participate in the lessons. One of the approaches proven to increase
students' motivation and engagement is integrating gamification elements in the learning process.
This approach has led to the creation and development of various games, and FunLinguistics is
one of them. FunLinguistics is a linguistics game for students taking Language and Linguistics
course. Its primary purpose is to serve as a class activity, but it can also assist students with their
revision for tests. The game covers topics like morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The
gamification elements used in FunLinguistics are based on relevant learning theories: behaviourism,
cognitivism, and constructivism, while the difficulty level of the tasks is based on Bloom's
Taxonomy. Feedback from the students shows that FunLinguistics managed to get them
motivated to get the correct answers for the questions and to work together with their team
members when the games were played in groups. The students also claimed that FunLinguistics
could assist them in doing their revision for tests as they could understand the topics better. They
also suggested adding more topics and questions. FunLinguistics has made voluntary notification
to MYIPO (LY2020004557) as future enhancement and commercialization are possible.

Penyelidikan tindakan ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk membantu murid meningkatkan kemahiran,
kefahaman teknik dan menghasilkan karya dengan betul dan kemas bagi aktiviti tenunan.
Penyelidikan ini juga turut dijalankan kerana kebanyakan murid telah membuat pelbagai kesilapan
yang dilihat ketara. Kesilapan yang dibuat ini meliputi aspek kemahiran, pemahaman bahasa seni

visual, dan juga pemahaman teknik bagi aktiviti tenunan. Antaranya ialah murid tidak memasukkan
benang dan tidak menjalin secara berselang-seli, tidak memusingkan pinggan polistrin mengikut
arah jam dan corak jalinan tenunan yang dihasilkan tidak kemas dan longgar. Aktiviti tenunan ini
dilakukan di bawah bidang Mengenal Kraf Tradisional dengan menggunakan kit kemahiran ‘Tabby
Straw’. Penggunaan kit ‘Tabby Straw’ berfungsi sebagai bahan bantu mengajar yang mampu
memudahkan murid dalam memahami teknik dan mengaplikasikan kemahiran tenunan. Peserta
kajian terdiri daripada tiga orang murid Tahun 5 Ibnu Abas dari Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Takir,
Kuala Nerus, Terengganu. Pengkaji telah menggunakan kaedah pengumpulan data melalui analisis
dokumen, pemerhatian, dan juga temu bual. Hasil analisis mendapati bahawa terdapat
peningkatan positif dalam aspek kemahiran tenunan dan kemampuan murid untuk menghasilkan
karya tenunan dengan betul, cepat dan kemas. Analisis data dapat disahkan melalui dapatan kajian
berdasarkan instrumen yang digunakan. Keputusan penyelidikan tindakan menunjukkan
penggunaan kit ‘Tabby Straw’ dapat membantu meningkatkan kefahaman, kemahiran dan kualiti
karya dalam kalangan peserta kajian. Kit ‘Tabby Straw’ ini telah mendapat pengiktirafan melalui
beberapa pertandingan inovasi seperti pingat emas dalam ‘International Summit On Innovation &
Design Exposition 2020’ (Inside 2020), pingat perak dalam ‘International Innovation Competition’
(INNOCOM 2020) dan pingat gangsa dalam ‘Minda Inovasi Dinamik IPG 2020’ (MInD 2020).

Illustrative Mind-Map (IMM): Approach in Biochemistry Course

A mind map is a versatile tool in teaching and learning, that grasps the thinking that goes on inside
individual’s mind. This approach helps learners think, imagine, recall, and create ideas. Mind maps
can be created in many ways, which summarize information. Instead of long sentences, ideally only
necessary keywords are used. As getting feedbacks regarding the difficulty in understanding and
identifying the facts, which covers CLO1 of the course, this study is initiated to resolve this situation.
Consist of four mind-maps that cover four (4) types of Biomolecules; carbohydrates, proteins, lipids,
and nucleic acids. Each mind-maps were drawn using Microsoft PowerPoint and Canva drawing
tools. Free graphics from free licensed image platforms were used as related characters. It can be
implemented in any IPT Biochemistry course; printable and can be kept as e-copy, favorable to
low-band width internet users and can act as a ‘support system’ to short-span learners. Classroom
implementation: implemented to Biochemistry learners from Food Science and Crop Science
course. Each learners created their own mind-maps too and uploaded the masterpiece in E-
learning platform, used by other classmates, and shared in our class WhatsApp Group. 93.5% of
learners improved their understanding in the Biomolecules topics; almost 100% of learners agreed
that mind-map improved factual recall compared to written facts; Approximately, 95% of learners
agreed that mind-map simplified the lecture notes, which aids learning process. Almost 90% of
learners agreed mind-map is still valid among current generation. This product has been awarded
with medals in DTLIC 2020 and e-Telic 2020 competitions. Author has a related publication in using
illustration in Biochemistry subject.
