Introduction to Felino A. Soriano’s Vocal Apparitions

Felino A. Soriano has written a book of verse, Vocal Apparitions, which contains the
whole symphony of his life between the years of 2012 to 2016. I have struggled for over
a month to craft an introduction to Felino’s new achievement in mixing the jazz of a
master composer within the confines of written word.

The truth is, he is a poet that is unconfined, undefined, and it makes sense that Vocal
Apparitions proves to be a prism-splintered refection of his personality.

This book combines Soriano’s mind-mellowing verbiage, unpredictable tempo, and
bravery of authentic voice into a groovy Elysium I can’t stop reading. This book has a
more earthy, tangible, and flavorful side, though. For those who have watched this poet,
editor, storyteller, father, husband, and stalwart man grow through his stanzas – Vocal
Apparitions will leave you sharing a pint beside a poet who stands taller with shoulders
squared and heart beating like mad. In the past I’ve noticed lines Felino deliberately
fashioned to dodge and duck the reader’s desire to delve in too deep. Fear is a beast
every artist needs time to scare off. Obviously Felino has won. That ever-so-slight
trepidation is not in this collection of verse.

Soriano is strong in every poem. He keeps your feet tapping to the harmony he seems
to effortlessly inject, but you know that simplicity (the silence between the notes) is
where genius is heard. Felino would never admit it, but he has created a new, lyrical
marriage between jazz and poetry. He speaks of his child, his affections, and his anguish
that in this book all create a sense of completeness in those who journey from one page
to the next. This book is a big bang of Felino’s gifts. I highly suggest you get into the
meat of Vocal Apparitions and realize my words are just shadows to the sun beyond.
