Commemorates Atatürk on the 82nd
Year of His Passing to Eternity

Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) organized a ceremony for
the 10th of November Atatürk Memorial Day. Head of the
Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, our Rector
Prof. Dr. Erhan Güzel, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer,
academic and administrative staff attended the ceremony
held at the Ataköy campus in consideration of social
distance rules due to the New Coronavirus Pandemic
(COVID-19). The commemoration program, held on the
82nd anniversary of Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s
passing to eternity, started on Tuesday, November 10, at
09.05, with the presentation of a wreath to the Atatürk bust
in the front garden of the Ataköy campus, with a moment of
silence and with the singing of the Turkish National Anthem.
Researcher & Author Numan Aydınoğlu “My Greatest Work
is the Republic” and our Vice President of the Student
Council Abdullah Enes Yakut “Atatürk and Youth” gave
their speeches in the event that continues at the Akıngüç
Auditorium and Art Center.
The commemoration program, after the performance of the
Zeybek Folk-Tur dancers, ended with the performance of
Atatürk’s favorite songs by the Orchestra IKU.

Liberation of Hatay

A webinar titled “Savarona Days and the Liberation of
Hatay” was organized within the scope of November 10
Atatürk Memorial Day activities in cooperation with IKU
Atatürk Principles and History of Revolution Research and
Application Center and Atatürk’s Thought Club. Assist.
Prof. Orhan Çekiç, an academic from Gedik University,
attended the event held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020,
between 13.00-14.00, on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom
Application.

Belgesel Gösterimi

Yabancı Diller Bölümü Steam Club tarafından, 10 Kasım
Atatürk’ü Anma Günü etkinlikleri kapsamında belgesel
gösterimi yapıldı. 10 Kasım Salı günü Ataköy yerleşkesinde
COVID-19 Pandemisi nedeniyle sosyal mesafe kuralları
gözetilerek gerçekleştirilen etkinlikte, Hazırlık Sınıfı
öğrencileri “Ataturk: Father of Turks” isimli belgeseli izleyerek
Ulu Önder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ü andılar.

A documentary was screened by the Foreign Languages
Department Steam Club as part of the 10 November Atatürk
Memorial Day activities. The Prep Class students watched the
documentary “Atatürk: Father of Turks” and commemorated
the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the event, which
was held on Tuesday, November 10, in the Ataköy campus
by observing the social distance rules due to the COVID-19
Pandemic.

“İstanbul’u Deneyimleme” Atölyesi

İKÜ Mimarlık Bölümü akademisyenlerinden Dr. Öğr.
Üyesi Esin Hasgül, Arş. Gör. Dilara Gür ve Arş. Gör.
Merve Aksoy Oral yürütücülüğünde, 7 Kasım 2020
Cumartesi günü “İstanbul’u Deneyimleme” başlıklı bir
atölye çalışması gerçekleştirildi. İstanbul’un tarihsel ve
kültürel katmanlarının anlatıldığı etkinlikte, Kevin Lynch’in
tanımladığı kentsel kavramlar üzerinden öğrencilere tarihi
yarımada ve yakın çevresinden alanlar tayin edilerek
bireysel çalışmalar yürütüldü. Öğrencilerden, bu bölgeyi
bağlamsal açıdan inceleyerek ekle-çıkar tekniğine dayalı
spekülatif müdahaleler yapmaları istendi. Bu kapsamda
öğrenciler tarafından dijital düzenleme programları
ile hazırlanan görseller üzerinden eleştirel tartışmalar
gerçekleştirildi.

“Experiencing İstanbul” Workshop

A workshop titled “Experiencing Istanbul” was held on
Saturday, November 7, 2020, under the coordination of Prof.
Dr. Esin Hasgül, Res. Assist. Dilara Gür and Res. Assist. Merve
Aksoy Oral, academicians from İKÜ Architecture Department.
In the event, where the historical and cultural layers of
Istanbul were explained, individual studies were carried out by
assigning areas from the historical peninsula and its immediate
surroundings to students based on the urban concepts
defined by Kevin Lynch. Students were asked to make
speculative interventions based on the add-remove technique,
by examining this region contextually. In this context, critical
discussions were held over the visuals prepared by the
students with digital editing programs.

Yeni’den DüşlE-Atölye Serisi”nin

“İlk Konuğu Birol Güven Oldu

İKÜ Meslek Yüksekokulu (MYO), “Kültür Yaşamdır” temasıyla
6 Kasım 2020 Cuma günü “Yeni’den DüşlE-Atölye” serisinin
ilkini gerçekleştirdi. “Fikrim Sen’de” sloganıyla başlayan
e-atölyenin ilk konuğu, Çocuklar Duymasın, Seksenler, En
Son Babalar Duyar, Mandıra Filozofu gibi projelerin Senaristi
ve Yapımcısı Birol Güven oldu. Etkinlikte; endüstrileşme
sonrası çalışma olanakları, hikâyeleştirme yönteminin
yaşamımıza katkısı ve yeni nesil çalışma olanakları hakkında
fikir alışverişinde bulunuldu. Birol Güven, etkinlik sonunda
öğrencilerimizden geçtiğimiz 5 yıl içerisinde hayatlarında
nelerin değiştiğini düşünmelerini ve gelecek 5 yıl içindeki
değişimlere yönelik öngörülerde bulunmalarını istedi.

Düşl E-Workshop Series”

İKÜ Vocational School realized the first of the “Yeni’den Düşl
E-Workshop Series” series on Friday, November 6, 2020 with
the theme “Kültür is Life”. The first guest of the e-workshop,
which started with the slogan “Fikrim Sen”, was Birol Güven,
the scriptwriter and producer of projects such as Çocuklar
Duymasın, Seksenler, En Son Babalar Duyar, and Mandıra
Filozofu. In the event; Ideas were exchanged about post-
industrialization work opportunities, the contribution of
the storytelling method to our lives and new generation
work opportunities. At the end of the event, Birol Güven
asked our students to think about what has changed in their
lives in the past 5 years and to make predictions about the
changes in the next 5 years.

Kültür Noktası, 9 Kasım 2020 Pazartesi günü saat 20.00’de
ZOOM platformu üzerinden 2020-2021 Mezun Mentorluğu
programının açılış toplantısını gerçekleştirdi. 12 mentor
ve mentinin katıldığı toplantıda, yapılan eşleştirmeler
sonucu yaşanılan süreç ve görüşmeler üzerinde konuşuldu.
Toplantı, katılımcıların sorularının cevaplanmasının ardından
sona erdi.

Opening Program

Kültür Point held the opening meeting of the 2020-2021
Graduate Mentorship program on the ZOOM platform
on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 20:00. At the meeting
attended by 12 mentors and mentees, the process and
negotiations experienced as a result of the matches were
discussed. The meeting ended after the participants’
questions were answered.

Üniversitemizi Temsil Etti

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi (İKÜ) Radyo, Televizyon ve Sinema
Bölümü, dünyadaki tek resmi sinema okulları birliği olan
CILECT’in COVID-19 salgını nedeniyle bu yıl ilk defa çevrimiçi
gerçekleştirilen genel kuruluna katıldı. CILECT’in bu yılki
eğitim-etkileşim stratejilerinin tartışıldığı ve yeni yönetim
kurulunun seçildiği toplantıda; CILECT’e Türkiye’den üye ilk
eğitim kurumu olan üniversitemizi temsil eden bölümümüz,
Avrupa standartlarındaki eğitim anlayışımızın devam etmesi
ve geliştirilmesi adına CILECT ile ilişkilerini her geçen gün
kuvvetlendirmeye devam etmektedir.

the promotion and sales development methods in
accommodation businesses, what was done to manage and
increase the decreasing demand especially in city hotels
during the pandemic process, and which sales strategies

Geometri Atölyesi

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü, 14 Kasım 2020 Cumartesi
günü Dr. Suzan Sanlı Esin ve Öğr. Gör. Pelin Çetken yürütücülüğünde 6 saat
süren çevrimiçi bir geometri atölyesi gerçekleştirdi. Sunum ve tartışmaların
ardından, bir “yaprak” görseli özelinde 3 aşamalı bir çalışma yapıldı. İlk
adımda öğrencilerden, bu yaprak fotoğrafına bakıp, onun gerçeğe yakın bir
imajı oluşturulması istendi. İkinci adımda, bu yaprağın geometrik biçimlere
parçalanması ve geometrik düzlemlerden oluşan bir bütün halinde temsil
edilmesi denendi. Bu işlemle her öğrenci, bir yaprağı oluşturan geometrik
parçalara ait kendi biçim repertuarını oluşturdu. Ayrıca bu biçimlerin nasıl
bir araya geldiği analiz edilerek bir kurallar dizisi saptadı. Son adımda ise var
olan yapraktan bağımsız şekilde elde edilen biçim repertuarı ve kurallar dizisi
ile bir yaprağın soyutlaması ve kendine özgü dilde yeni bir yaprak üretilmesi

Atölye sonrasında katılımcılara, bu geometrik çizim denemelerinden oluşan
süreçten ne öğrendikleri, doğadaki düzensiz görünümünün ardındaki düzeni
araştırmanın, mimari tasarım bağlamında katkısının ne olduğu soruldu.

Geometry Workshop

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture held an online geometry
workshop for 6 hours on Saturday, November 14, 2020, carried out by Dr.
Suzan Sanlı Esin and Lecturer Pelin Çetken. After the presentations and
discussions, a 3-stage study was conducted specifically for a “leaf” image. In
the first step, the students were asked to look at this leaf photo and create
a lifelike image of it. In the second step, the attempt was made to break this
leaf into geometric shapes and represent it as a whole made up of geometric
planes. With this process, each student created his / her own repertoire of
geometric parts that make up a leaf. In addition, a set of rules was determined
by analyzing how these forms came together. In the last step, it was aimed
at abstraction of a leaf and to produce a new leaf in its own language with
the form repertoire and set of rules obtained independently of the existing
leaf. The necessity of a main idea that will guide this abstraction action
was emphasized. Thus, 11 original leaf figures with their own stories were
produced. After the workshop, the participants were asked what they learned
from the process of geometric drawing experiments, what the contribution of
researching the order behind the irregular appearance in nature in the context
of architectural design.

Sürecinde Konut” başlıklı bir toplantıda bir araya geldiler. Mimarlık eğitimine

koşullarında konutta yaşam, yeni kullanım biçimleri ve beklentilerle ilgili

öğrencilerine yönelttiler. Microsoft Teams üzerinden gerçekleştirilen toplantı,

Pandemic” Meeting

Within the scope of the “MIM0003 Architectural Design III” course in the Turkish
Program of the Department of Architecture, all project groups carried out by
Asist. Prof. Gamze Alptekin, Assist. Prof. Esin Hasgül, Lecturer Dr. Şeyda Şen
and Research Assistant Berkay Oskay, with the assistance of Gözde Döşlü,
the Psychological Consultant of FMV Ispartakule Işık High School, and with
the participation of 11th grade students Selin Köseoğlu, Serra Aydoğmuş and
Merve Kemeroğlu came together in a meeting titled “Housing in the Pandemic
Process” on Thursday, November 12, 2020. After sharing the general information
about architectural education and the examples of the studies carried out within
the scope of the course, the Architecture Department students posed their
questions about life in dwellings under pandemic conditions, new ways of use
and expectations to guest high school students representing the relevant age
group as residential users. The meeting, held over Microsoft Teams, ended after
mutual information sharing.

yaratan konukları ağırlayacağını ilan ettiği serinin ilk konuğu
oldu. 16 Kasım Pazartesi günü “Deprem, Engellilik ve Kendi
Fırsatını Yaratmak Üzerine” başlığıyla ZOOM platformu
üzerinden 45 dakika yapılması planlanan sohbet; mimarlar
ve psikologların deneyimlerini anlatması ve konunun

boyut fikri mülkiyet hakları. Bu aşamada ise akademisyenler
ve öğrenciler girişimciliğe özendiriliyor. Üçüncü boyut iş
birliği ve etkileşim, dördüncü boyut ise ekonomik katkı ve
ticarileşme.” diye konuştu.

Their Owners

The BİLSAP Awards, which are given by Istanbul Kültür
University to academicians who contribute to science,
education, society and art with their studies, found their
owners with a ceremony held with masks, distance and
hygiene measures.
At the award ceremony held in IKU Akıngüç Auditorium
and Art Center with masks, distance and hygiene measures
due to the pandemic, 102 academic staff who contributed
to science, education, society and art with their work
published in refereed and periodical journals in 2020
received their awards. Opening speeches of the ceremony

Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, who attended the ceremony
online, stated in her speech that the pandemic created a
break and an axis shift in all areas of life and that history
will investigate the days we witnessed with curiosity
and heartily. Dr. Akıngüç Günver who stated that without
science, education, research and art, a complete and
lasting improvement cannot be experienced, said, “Those
that will enable us to remember COVID19 as a lesson
are possible with science and art workers who can think,
question, research and produce. I believe that we can
close the gaps that are getting deeper with the pandemic
with the brightness of the mind. At this point, humanity
needs science and art, science and art branches need
data, research and most importantly, more solidarity and
communication within themselves.”
Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver who addressed the problems
of female employees during the pandemic period, said, “I
observe that my female colleagues work with superhuman
effort in this process. In such a period when the balance
of work and private life is intertwined, our work comfort
changes radically and necessarily, conditions are
extraordinarily demanding, transforming an idea into a
concrete output, creating a vibration for innovation and
entrepreneurship is quite difficult and exhausting. However,
as IKU, we stand by our academics with all our means to
work freely.”

of IKU Vice Rector and Head of Technology and Project

to the academicians who received awards for their work.

Support Unit Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer who emphasized that
the Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index studies
prepared by TÜBİTAK are important guide for universities
in our country, said, “In line with the criteria of the
Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index launched
in 2012, we have been doing all our work in this direction
since 2016. This year, as a result of these studies, we ranked
among the top 50 universities in this index.
The index consists of four dimensions. First dimension
is scientific and technological activities. At this stage,
publications and references to publications, grants and
funds are included. The second dimension is intellectual
property rights. At this stage, academics and students
are encouraged to entrepreneurship. The third dimension
is cooperation and interaction, the fourth dimension is
economic contribution and commercialization.”

Public and Private Hospitals

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School organized an
e-seminar titled “Information Systems in Public and Private
Hospitals” on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Başakşehir Çam and
Sakura City Hospital Information Technologies Manager İbrahim
Etem Eren were the speakers of the event, and information was
given on the differences in health service provision between
public and private hospitals and the operation of information
systems. Eren gave advice to our students about working areas
in health institutions and answered questions from our students.

Pandemic” on Tuesday, November 24, between 19.00-21.00,

academicians. Master Architect Uğur Özen Özgüven, Civil Engineer
Cem Kafadar and Civil Engineer Hakan Ketenci, who attended
the event moderated by Assist. Prof. Gamze Alptekin as speakers,
talked about the effects of the pandemic process on construction
and architectural applications. In the panel attended by students
with their questions, important determinations were made that will
determine the direction of the building sector in the post-pandemic.

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü akademisyenlerinden Dr.
Öğr. Üyesi N. Ömer Saatcıoğlu’nun enerji etkin bina tasarımı çalışmaları
çerçevesinde geliştirdiği “Doğal Havalandırma Sağlayan, Nefes Alan Duvar
Aparatı” isimli buluşunun patent başvurusu gerçekleştirildi.
“Pasif Ev” (Passive House) standartlarına göre tasarlanmış, ısıtma ve soğutma
sistemleri bulunmayan binalar mevcuttur. Ancak bu binalarda ısı geri
kazanımlı mekanik havalandırma sistemi olmak zorundadır. Ekolojik binalarda
ısıtma, soğutma ve havalandırma sistemlerini tamamen pasif hale getirmek,
bu üçü bağlamında sıfır enerjili bir tasarım oluşturmak şu anda uzak bir
hedef gibi görünmektedir. Bununla havalandırma sisteminin de pasif hale
getirilmesine yönelik çalışmalar yapılmaktadır. Örneğin; ikinci nesil “nefes
alan duvar” sisteminde, duvarı dıştan-içe delen, çapı 1 mm’yi geçmeyen
yüzlerce delik oluşturularak düşük hızda ve az miktarda hava geçişine imkân
sağlanmaktadır. Bu anlayış günümüz çok katmanlı, hava geçirimsiz ve yoğun
yalıtımlı 20. yy bina kabuk anlayışına taban tabana zıttır.

“The Building Sector in Pandemic

The patent application of the invention named “Wall Apparatus Breathing and
Providing Natural Ventilation” developed by Assist. Prof. N. Ömer Saatcıoğlu,
an academic at the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kültür University,
within the framework of energy efficient building design studies was made.
There are buildings that are designed according to “Passive House” standards
and do not have heating and cooling systems. However, these buildings must
have a heat recovery mechanical ventilation system. Completely passive
heating, cooling and ventilation systems in ecological buildings, creating a
zero-energy design in the context of these three now seems to be a distant
goal. With this, studies are carried out to make the ventilation system passive.
For example; in the second generation “breathing wall” system, hundreds
of holes with a diameter not exceeding 1 mm are formed that pierce the
wall from the outside to inside, allowing low speed and small amount of
air passage. This understanding is diametrically opposed to today’s multi-
layered, airtight and dense insulated 20th century building shell concept.

the public relations discipline, how digital communication
is used, customer loyalty, contribution to employment.
Answering the questions of the Program of Public Relations
and Publicity students, Zeytinoğlu also explained where the
public relations discipline is in the service sector. Ahmet
Zeytinoğlu advised all our participants who want to be
successful and build a career in the service sector
