For the entire 70 years of his reign, His Majesty
the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) performed
arduous royal deeds for the benefits of Thai people. He paid
royal visits to his subjects all over the country. No matter
how remote and barren those areas were, His Majesty was
there to relieve suffering and sustain happiness of the people.
Therefore, many countries have recognized His Majesty’s
untiring devotion through his royal deeds. His Majesty
the late King was internationally acknowledged as the world’s
hardest-working monarch and his development approaches
from his royal initiatives were widely acclaimed as the
efficient approaches.

His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej focused on conducting research and locating ways
to make the best use of the country’s natural resources, one of which is mineral resources,
and his numerous royal duties regarding mineral resources are apparently for the benefits of the country
and the people.

His Majesty’s benevolence towards Thai people who were born under his grace is immeasurable.
His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej will eternally be in our hearts.

ในท่ีสุดจึงมีโรงถลุงแร่ดีบุกของบริษัทจากสหรัฐอเมริกา ชื่อบริษัท Thailand Smelting and Refining
Co., Ltd. หรอื Thaisarco มาต้งั ทีป่ ระเทศไทย
On 9th March 1959, His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty
Queen Sirikit, the queen consort of King Rama IX, observed the operation of Chao Fah
Tin Mine in Phuket Province. Upon this visit, His Majesty the late King remarked that Thailand
should have its own tin smelting plant, so there was no need to export tin to smelting plants
in Penang. A tin plant in Thailand would generate more employment. The royal remark
inspired the Department of Mineral Resources or then Department of Mines to locate a way to
establish a tin smelting plant in Thailand, and an American company eventually established
a tin smelting plant in the country, using the name Thailand Smelting and Refining Co., Ltd.
or Thaisarco.

On 23th July 1968, His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His
Majesty the King (then known as His Royal Highness Prince Vajiralongkorn),
paid a royal visit to the tin smelting plant owned by Thailand Smelting
and Refining Co., Ltd. or Thaisarco. This royal visit brought immeasurable
moral support to those who worked in the tin mine industry.

และสดุดีพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช บรมนาถบพิตร เนื่องในโอกาสมหามงคลเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา ๘๕ พรรษา ในวันที่ ๕ ธันวาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๕

ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ ๖ ธันวาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๖ ที่ประชุมคณะกรรมการด้านเศรษฐกิจและการเงินของที่ประชุมสมัชชาสหประชาชาติสมัยสามัญที่ ๖๘ (68th UNGA)
ณ สำ�นักงานใหญ่สหประชาชาติที่นครนิวยอร์ก ได้รับรองมติที่ประกาศให้ วันที่ ๕ ธันวาคมของทุกปี เป็น “วันดินโลก”

In recognition of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s talent in devising methods for improving soil quality for cultivation,
the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) committee granted His Majesty the “Humanitarian Soil Scientist Award”
on 16th April 2012. His Majesty the late King was the first recipient of such honorable award.

Additionally, in the same year, during the meeting in June, there was an attempt to establish the World Soil Day. The Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FAO) member countries eventually included the agenda in the 67th UN General Assembly in September, 2012 in New York, USA,

to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 85th Birthday Anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 5th December 2012.
On 6th December 2013, in the meeting of the Economic and Financial Committee, the 68th United Nations General Assembly (68th UNGA)
at the UN Headquarters in New York, approved the resolution and declared the 5th of December of every year as World Soil Day.

graciously granted a royal audience to Mr. Smith Dharmasaroja, Assistant to Minister Attached to the
Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of the National Disaster Early Warning Committee, and other
committee members who worked on earthquake and tsunami information to report on the operation
of the National Disaster Warning Centre which has been set up by the Government after the tsunami
incident on 26th December 2004.

the book on the geological map of Thailand which becomes a valuable source for research purposes
of government and private bodies, as well as the general public.

The Kings of the Chakri dynasty and members of the
royal family have recognized the importance of conducting
researches and increasing knowledge on Thailand’s
mineral resources and have continuously extended support
and graciously performed royal duties that relate to the
Department of Mineral Resources’ core missions which
include reservation, conservation, restoration and geological
management of mineral resources, fossils, environmental
geology and geoharzards.

ถำ�้ ผลกึ แคลไซตแ์ มล่ านอ้ ย ทอ่ี ำ� เภอแมล่ านอ้ ย จงั หวดั แมฮ่ อ่ งสอน
ถำ้� นภี้ ายหลงั ได้รบั พระราชทานนามวา่ “ถ�ำ้ แก้วโกมล”
On 19th February 2001, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit,
the queen consort of King Rama IX, and His Majesty
the King (the then His Royal Highness Crown Prince
Maha Vajiralongkorn) graciously visited the Mae La Noi
Calcite Cave in Mae La Noi District, Mae Hong Son
Province. The cave was later bestowed the name
“Kaeo Komon Cave” by Her Majesty the Queen.
