The best part about your story is that the next page is blank and you get to write it. At Lotus Valley International School, we lay as much emphasis on incorporating lessons on life skills in our pedagogy as we do on academic skills, thereby laying the path for our learners’ future accomplishments. It has been our earnest endeavor to build a strong reading culture in the school to stimulate a lasting love of reading in our learners, a lifelong skill that fosters a deeper understanding of the world around them. Myra Sethi, a learner of Grade II Bulbuls is an avid reader and feels that reading is a free magic carpet ride to anywhere on Earth or beyond, at any point in time. Reading books from different genres has helped her expand her vocabulary, appreciate different writing styles, think creatively and adopt an out-of-the-box approach. These strengths are clearly reflected in her first published book titled ‘School for Grownups’. The story revolves around every child’s fantasy – to become a grownup and seeing adults as children again doing homework. The book is a must-read book for all age groups and is beautifully illustrated, each colourful page quenching our imagination. We heartily congratulate Myra for her accomplishments and wish her good luck in her future endeavors!

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes whole orchestra to play it.” We appreciate the importance of collaboration between parents and mentors to stay apprised of what is happening in the child’s life both at school and at home. Keeping this in mind, the Primary School organised the third Parent-Teacher Conference on 10th December 2022. The meeting was held for Grades Prenursery to Grade III. The rendezvous with parents was a two-way communication that helped mentors and parents interact and understand the learners’ progress. Our learners have surpassed our expectations and have carved a niche for themselves with their dedicated efforts and unparalleled hard work. We can confidently state that this positive communication between parents and mentors will go a long way towards further improving our learners' academic and co-scholastic performance. Parents were appreciative of school’s efforts towards inculcating values in learners. Mentors and parents used the opportunity constructively to strategize goals for learners’ future work and growth.

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed to encourage parity, rights and welfare of the specially-abled and reminds us that together, we can make this world a better place for all. Learners engaged themselves wholeheartedly in well-thought-out activities to celebrate the awe-inspiring achievements of the specially-abled. The learners of Pre-Nursery were sensitized about the real-life challenges faced by the speciallyabled on a daily basis through the activity, ‘I Care when I am Aware’. Grade Nursery organised ‘We are One’ activity wherein learners were asked to feel a pattern board with their eyes covered. Learners and mentors of Grade Prep also observed this day with a lot of positivity and zest through an activity, ‘I Came, I Conquered’. The learners of Grade I were briefed about how several famous specially-abled personalities have overcome the challenges, and are living life to the fullest. The learners of Grade II were shown a short video based on the theme, ‘It’s ok to be different’, while Grade III learners were engaged in an activity during which learners were introduced to Paralympics, the origin of the games, the kind of sports included, its mascot and motto. At the end of the day, by means of diverse activities the learners were able to imbibe the value that inclusion is the celebration of diversity put into action.
“Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world”. Education is the gateway to the growth and development of mankind. It breeds confidence, hope and brings in peace and prosperity. Taking this thought forward, the Primary wing of the school celebrated International Day of Education on 24th of January with great fervour and excitement. The enthusiastic learners of Grade I exhibited their in-depth understanding of concepts through a flipped teaching activity. The curious learners of Grade II interviewed their parents regarding the evolution of education over the last few decades and presented their findings by means of a comic strip. Likewise, the diligent learners of Grade III wrote a letter to their grandparents talking about the relevance of education while comparing the current education system with the one prevalent during their childhood. It was a fun-filled day and the activities helped our learners become appreciative of the role of education in creating a progressive society.
“Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we think about.” The school believes in fostering respect and tolerance towards all. Every year, 21st February is observed as International Mother Language Day and gives us all an opportunity to build relationships across communities. Apart from providing children with a definite shape and thought, the mother-language also empowers them to learn other languages easily, which opens up a whole new world to them. An array of activities was planned across all Grades in the Primary wing to celebrate this special day. The curious learners of Grade Pre-Nursery were taught greetings in five different languages through the activity ‘Meri Bhasha Meri Shaan’. The young learners also created speech bubbles and decorated them as part of a group activity to be displayed in class for regular enforcement. Similarly, the learners of Grade Nursery took part in the activity ‘Greetings of the World’ wherein they presented greetings in different languages. Grade Prep mentors organized the activity ‘Many Hats and Many languages’, which witnessed learners presenting commonly used words in their mother language. Enthusiastic learners of Grade I commemorated the day with ‘Vividhata Mein Ekta’ that helped learners understand the importance of mother languages and the vital role they play in developing cultural diversity and dialogue. Grade II learners took part in an exciting activity ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakan - Language of one world’ during which the learners researched and presented various words in five languages of their choice. Grade III learners, on the other hand, were engaged in the activity ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ and by integrating calligraphy and other styles, wrote words such as ‘Hello’ and ‘Peace’ in different languages and presented them in the class. The celebration of International Mother Language Day served as an effective reminder that every mother tongue is unique in itself, a quality that makes it so exquisite. Nelson Mandela had once said, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart”.
“What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing” It has been our consistent endeavour to simulate real life scenarios to enhance the teaching-learning process. The formative and early years of a child's life are when they learn the most. Keeping this in mind, the Pre-Primary Wing of the school organised a ‘Lotus Hypermarket Day’ on December 2nd ,2022. To boost the hands-on learning session for our learners, the parents came forward and joined hands with the school to give our zealous minds a realistic vision of Supermarkets. This exposure gave learners an understanding regarding organizing and making different things available under one roof. The teachers apprised learners about the buying and selling process of products along with the payment options available to complete their purchase. Learners were able to bring the knowledge acquired in classrooms to a real-life setting by exultantly engaging in the activity.
