VISUAL ARTS ART IS A CONSTANT AGENT OF TRANSFORMATION AND IS INDEED THE SOUL`S DRIVE TO HEALTH LAKSHAY AGARWAL

Work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.’ -Paul Cezanne Emotions were indeed the crest on which we rode, as the gates of schools reopened to the chatter and banter of children once again. All of us missed the emotional, social connections during the Pandemic and it was a refreshing start to the new normal. Returning to campus revealed new dynamics, with the lines between teacher and student blurring in certain areas, due to the self learning opportunities that everyone embraced. Through a plethora of events, activities, assemblies, trips and special guests, we celebrated Swadeshanurag, India@75, imbibing a sense of pride and patriotism in our students. Our budding artists made us proud by firmly imprinting our school’s name in Global Exhibitions. Aanya Baweja’s art work was one of 60 to be showcased in the COP 27, UN Climate Change conference in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Rishita Verma won the regional round in the INTACH Heritage in our Hands art competition. Rishita Verma, Namanya Sherawat and Moksh Sherawat had the coveted honour of being selected to display their art.works at the prestigious Lalit Kala Academi. Saranya Verma was handpicked to illustrate a children’s book which is now available in print. Several Inter school competitions saw our students excel and win trophies at city and National level. We introduced students to contemporary practices, new media, social art practices and more, through our classes. Experiential learning took interesting directions with students experiencing what it was like to paint like Jamini Roy, Michelangelo and Joan Miro. Art week saw the school become a showcase of Indian folk art, Artist inspired art and experiments in mixed media. Through special assemblies, we highlighted the contribution of Indian artists to our country’s independence, facts that were less known but of paramount importance. Our Special Guest was the founder of Delhi Street Art, Mr Yogesh Saini, who inspired us with his mantra of using art to make cities happy and clean.

Our International collaborations continued, with two groups engaged in the Japan Art Mile Mural Exchange this year. We collaborated with Okuno Elementary School and Ashiya International Secondary School, sharing our culture, problems and solutions related to SDG 11, 13, 14, 15. Critical thinking and problem solving took Centerstage as students came up with interesting ideas and solutions. The IEARN Holiday Card Exchange engaged in a cultural exchange with Slovenia, Taiwan, Japan.
