25 Read and learn.
It's January 5. Subina has gone to school. It
is late in the afternoon. Mother has come
home. She has brought something in her
red bag. Subina's brother and cousins
are busy today. They are decorating the
house. They have kept red, blue and
pink balloons at the door. A bunch of
balloons is kept in the room. There are
many balloons on the floor as well.
A table is set in the middle of the living
room. The table is covered with red cloth. Then, mother keeps her
red bag on the table.
There are some hats too. The yellow hats are tied in ribbons of different
colours. The house is all the same. Red and yellow ribbons were kept
at the door.
Outside, it was all the same. The yellow, pink, and red flowers were
blooming.
It was four o'clock. Subina comes home. She goes to her room. She
changes her dresses. Her mother goes to her room and helps her
change.
After half an hour, about 10 of her friends enter from the gate. They
are in red, yellow, green and blue clothes. Subina does not know why
they are coming.
Subina does not know her parents have set a surprise party that
day. It is Subina's birthday. After her friends come in the house, her
mother leads them to the room. Mother brings out the white cake.
She puts red, blue, brown and silver candles on the cake. Subina cuts
the cake. Everybody sings "Happy Brithday to You". She is 8 today.
They dance and play and click photos. Subina is happy and thanks
all for making her birthday special.

Tihar the festival of lights
For many festivals, people decorate their homes. In Nepal, people
put lots of pretty oil-fed lamps and colourful electric lights in
their homes in Tihar. They look at the lamps and think about
their family and other people in the world.
Tihar, also called Dipawali, is usually in October or November.
It's a very big festival for Hindus in Nepal and Hindus all around
the world.
Look Meena's family
is marking Tihar here.
They have cleaned and
decorated the house. It
is the third day of Tihar.
The family worships
Goddess Laxmi. Her
father, mother and brother all are busy lighting the lamps. Meena
likes this day because mother makes selroti as well. She loves
