is weakness; Efficiency is strength, inefficiency is weakness; Faith is
strength, doubt is weakness; Intelligence is strength; foolishness is
weakness; Kindness is strength, wickedness is weakness; Obedience
is strength, disobedience is weakness; Patience is strength, anger is
weakness; Tolerance is strength, intolerance is weakness; Wisdom is
strength, ignorance is weakness; Zeal is strength, idleness is weakness.

titles they held. As they were walking discussing the matter, the monkey
stopped near a graveyard. The monkey sighed loudly and said, "Oh I feel
like weeping when I see those gravestones. Under them lie many slaves
and other men who served my great forefathers." To this, the fox gave a
cheeky reply. She said, 'Ah! my friend, you may tell me any tale about
those under the gravestones. For you know very well they won't rise
from the dead to come and deny it."

the lion - the lion catches it- the mouse asks to be pardoned - the lion
excuses - the lion caught in a trap -roars for help - the mouse cuts the
net- the lion rescued- moral.
It was a hot summer day. A lion, the king of the beasts, was taking a rest
in the shade of a tree. A tiny mouse lived in a hole nearby the tree. As the
mouse came out of its hole it rolled over the body of the lion. The lion,
as a king of the beasts, became very angry at the mouse because of its
activities over his body. The lion caught the mouse in its sharp paws and
was going to kill it. Then the mouse said to the lion, "I am very sorry
for disturbing you, but I never wanted to do so, please pardon me. I am
a small creature but I may be of help to you at some time in the future."
The lion laughed at the words of the mouse but it let the mouse go.
After a few days, the lion was caught in a real trap that was set by a
hunter. The lion tried very hard but couldn't get free from the trap.
So, it roared for help. The tiny mouse heard the roar of the lion
in pain. Then, the mouse came rushing to the place of the lions' trap.
The mouse nibbled the threads of the net wasting no time. The lion got
free. Then, the lion thanked the mouse and felt sorry for laughing at him
before.
Moral: Never laugh at the weak.

B. Essay Writing
Tips on How to Write an Essay
• Do not write your essay straight away. Plan before you write.
• Jot down the ideas that come to your mind.
• Write your essay in simple and clear sentences.
• Focus on the main idea of your essay.
• While writing, you may make a few spelling and grammar mistakes.
Hence, it is a good idea to read through your essay and correct the errors.
Read these sample essays:
1. Village Life
Our country has many villages but there are few towns. So, most of
the people live in the village. Nearly 80% people depend on agricultural
sector for their livelihood. Therefore we can say Nepal is an agricultural
country. Village life is very simple. The environment of village is natural.
In the village people can breathe fresh air. Village life is marked by
simplicity. People are loyal and faithful in the village. They are generous
and kind. People in the village are co-operative and innocent.
Life in the village is difficult, too. There are not many facilities like
hospitals, roads, colleges, schools and so on like that of town. Some people
in the village are still illiterate. Due to the lack of modern technology,
they cannot easily broaden their minds and outlook. They live in a small
world and cannot enjoy the status of the global citizen. But village life is
peaceful and pleasant. It is far from the noise of a city. Cooperative
nature and their faithfulness make village life like the life of paradise.
It is said that God made the village and man made the towns.
2. Good Manners
Manners are the modes of behaviour. If we behave properly, we have good
manners. A person is known by his manners. A person with good manners
wins love and respect. An ill-mannered person is disliked by all.
Good manners means to be good and respectful to others. A person
is judged by his/her behaviour. We should always behave properly.
We should speak politely, respect the seniors, love the juniors, show
politeness to visitors, not disturb others. We should see that others do
208 Oasis Applied Grammar and Composition Book-5
not feel bored with our talk. We should first allow others to speak and
listen carefully. We should not put our fingers into our nose or ear while
talking.
We should behave properly to the old and sick children. We should help
the old, the sick and the people with physical and mental impairment.
We should not talk in the library. We should cover our mouth and nose
while sneezing and say 'sorry' or 'excuse me'.
Good manners should be learnt in childhood. If we learn the good
manners in an early age they will always remain with us for our whole
life. We should also have company of good persons so that we can learn
good manners.
3. Education is Greater than Wealth
Many people in the world think that wealth is the basic need of human
beings because without it we cannot live. They argue that wealth is the
heart and soul of life. They focus on wealth as a means of status, power
and prestige. They do not read and write and they do not go to school or
college because they think that wealth can solve all problems of life.
However, I think that education is greater than wealth. Education makes
a man enlightened. If a man has only wealth, he does not know whether
he is being manipulated. An uneducated person does not know what
other people say. He or she has a very limited knowledge of the world.
These are some of the reasons why education is greater than wealth.
