its Annual Magazine ‘Ostium’.
Every academic year for the students and staff is a memorable one. It recollects the past,
enjoys the present and dreams the future. The quality of education that students receive will
impact strongly on how well they will be equipped with the desired knowledge, skills and attitudes to
subsequently function as professionals in their respective specialties. I am aware that the College has
talented students some of whom have brought laurels both in academics as well as in extra-curricular
activities. I congratulate them.
I am sure the college magazine ‘Ostium’ has many things to show case and will be a spokesperson

am very glad to know that the OSTIUM 2018, the fourteenth edition of our NMIT College
magazine is going to be released soon. Like every year, I am sure that our ever enthused students
and the talented faculty members must have made excellent contributions summarising their
academic and extra-curricular achievements during this year along with a basketful of creative
writings, sketches, smart photographs and finally the colorful narration of the performance of our
students in our annual technocultural festival Anaddyanta and also our students’ participation in our
Republic Day Parade at New Delhi this year.
We at NMIT still continue to formulate our basic policy of teaching-learning to grow further on
the modern principles of Outcome Based Education and with special emphasis on Interdisciplinary
Research. Special mention may be made of our Centre for Robotics and Centre for Nanomaterials,
where multiple Interdisciplinary Research Projects on topics of current interest are being pursued
even by our young undergraduates, leading to publications in reputed journals. Our unique hands-
on course using LEGO,MINDSTORMS & TETRIX kits has become very useful and perhaps the earliest
one to commence in the country to provide hands-on experience enabling our youngsters to design
tomorrow some special purpose Robots or even invent an Advanced Material for some special
performance in industries.
The list of outgoing students with their photographs and mail addresses will be a very useful
ready reference to establish contacts in future. I am sure the OSTIUM will forever remain a very useful
document to remind our students about their joys, sorrows and excitements during their long four
years period of stay at NMIT.

ll over the world, technologies are transforming human lives, both rural and urban, by
impacting every type of infrastructure. Society demands, smarter, more sustainable, resilient
and innovative infrastructure solutions. India being a fast developing country, and being
one amongst the few countries having youth population in majority, bubbling with energy and
enthusiasm, and is willing to work and wanting to grab the opportunities for building the nation has
posed a major challenge to the education sector. It is for the education sector to respond in a right
manner with full responsibility of updating itself and gearing to the demands of the present times.
This demands staff that is trained and having an attitude of interdisciplinary approach, unleashing
their imagination and expertise to solve future problems,
Major challenge to the engineering education in India has been to attend to the two major objectives
viz quality and relevance to the diverse group of aspirants; identify talent and train accordingly to
match the industrial world. It is said, by next decade, the nature and number of jobs would change
to an extent, that, it may be difficult for the education sector to gear to the societal needs without
attending to the proper planning and needed preparation. Engineering teachers need to have greater
exposure and varied experience.
Dr. Jharna Majumdar Dean Research NMIT is one who is devoted herself not only to the subject but
also training the staff and students in her specialized field.
I am happy to write message to this important document that is being published by NMIT year

STIUM, the NMIT students’ annual magazine has already earned a lot of praise and
appreciation from its wide spectrum of readers specially during the last five years,
for its magnificent get up along with its widespread coverage of minute details of
whatever happens in the NMIT Campus. Perhaps the most exciting event to share
with our curious OSTIUM readers today is the multifold enhancement of the quality and
competence of our students and faculty members. Along with their routine course work,
miniprojects and assignments, most of our students actively participate in academic or
industrial research projects conducted at any of our five in-campus special Research Centres.
R&D experience in-house or even joining some special skill development programs outside
the institute obviously results in a steep enhancement of their job-opportunities as fresh
graduates. Our bright students, exposed to high quality research environment right at their
undergraduate level at NMIT, are now working across the globe and bringing glory to our
institution. OSTIUM with its illustrative presentation gives an insight to the growth of NMIT in
academics and research as well.
My heartiest congratulations to all the successful outgoing students this year and I wish
everyone a bright future with a challenging professional career ahead. Further, I take this
opportunity to congratulate the ever-zealous members of the OSTIUM team this year for
their relentless efforts to bring out the magazine successfully.

am very glad to note that the OSTIUM 2018, the fourteenth edition of our NMIT College
magazine is going to be released soon for the over-enthused readers from both inside and
outside our NMIT Campus. I think the OSTIUM every year conveys to its readers a very colorful
summary of the multifarious activities of our young and extra-energetic students coupled to the
extra-ordinary performances of some of our talented faculty members. The contributions range from
technical articles, proses and verses in multiple languages, awesome paintings, selective sketches and

magazine from many quality contributions is often too difficult to conclude.
On behalf of the Editorial Team OSTIUM 2018, I congratulate all the successful outgoing students
this year who are just going to open their innings in the hard ground of a competitive professional life.
I am sure the institute will always be proud of those NMITians who excel in their respective profession

Message from the Editor
It has been a great pleasure for the Editorial team to present this fourteenth edition of OSTIUM, the
students’ magazine of the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore. Even with quite short
preparation time available for this year, we tried our level best to interact directly with large number of
students and faculty members of the institute to conduct this difficult talent-search exercise. The large
quantum of contributions of the students, filtered through abundant reviews and criticisms received
from the reviewers has finally converged to the publication of the OSTIUM 2018.
As a goodwill gesture, our OSTIUM 2018 includes the database to connect to all the students
passing out this year. The database is preceded by the sweet farewell words in French language - Au
Revoir, (pronounced as Avua) meaning Good Bye. This database is likely to be a ready reference to
ensure connectivity amongst the NMITians of 2018. The journey through the OSTIUM 2018 is likely
to take the reader through different aspects of our institute – its interesting academic programs with
special emphasis on hands-on trainings- the healthy inter disciplinary research ambience - the R&D
activities of the five Research Centres, excellence of our students in various academic and extracurricular
activities and the potential talents of some of our students in art and literature. We do hope that the
OSTIUM will of course bring back the nostalgic memories to every NMIT student who spent his or her
memorable four years inside this campus.
The commitment and dedication of each and every person who had direct or indirect contribution
to this magazine OSTIUM is thankfully acknowledged by our OSTIUM Editorial Board. We would also
like to thankfully acknowledge the excellent services extended by MUDRIKA our designer and printer
of the OSTIUM 2018.
Finally the Editorial Board would also like to wish an ‘All the Best’ to the successful graduates this
year for a bright future in their professional career.
