MY DAY!

s I sit to write, my mind locomotes itself to distant

Apaper clips which are sighing through the prism of
their senses. I have been lately responding to my
hallucinations in my bedroom, kitchen and even bathroom of work
and the schedule that I made last weekend. Today, my thoughts
are the results of effusive chansonnette sung by the typical
creatures around me. My mother tells me to listen every time
before speaking because she believes speech is silver and silence
is golden but sometimes these syllables in my head step out from
the abacus of priorities and give themselves to a rigmarole in the
core of my bones.
On Thursday morning I have a meeting and I’m not ready yet
with my reports and presentation. Shall I try to fix my abacus again?
Shall I let myself sink in the gutter of those bitter chansonnette?
No. This time, I won’t. This time I will sit in reticence and will listen
to my eyes, nose, heart, hands and legs. I know it will take time but
soon I will turn a deaf ear to my haunting hallucinations.
It’s such a rush to do nothing at all.
Instead of waking up from the noise of mechanical alarm, I will
switch myself to the chirping of birds and the blush of sunset on
my eyes. This is what I call LIVING and not surviving. And that day
I will become what I was meant to be but didn’t know how to be.
And that day I will listen to only Tagore, Neruda, Lorca and Gibran.
That day I will become ‘me’.
I hanker for my day.

to my body in sweat.
Like a wave, innocence breaks
on your horizon with every stroke
of kohl that lined your eyes,

My love, I do not know how you
you used to contain me in the
Earth of your soul, in your
small and affectionate arms.
You knew nothing of sun but
only moon under which you
were like a sweet creeper
twisted over my soul.
The corners of my lips still
taste of your wine from your lips.
And my soul makes a necklace
with pearls of your memories
that you left me with.
Ah! Love is a brevity;

Forgetting is an epic poem.
And now my soul is a bewitched
boat of your reminiscences,
but don’t you forget that
I love you.

I love you, my love

Let’s leave tonight, live off the land, sleep on our s a n d ,
and travel around the world!
Hitchhiking through rain or shine,
Through jungles and lizards
And worlds full of deserts
An ambition song in our hearts!

Let’s live on that moonlit leaf,
Just you and me with a flower for a bed,
A caterpillar for a pet,
And no worries to haunt our dreams!
Let’s walk through the rain, to get a good soak
And not catch a cold, or have work to load
Let’s carry the sun on our shoulders,
And sing with the breath of the wild!

Let’s not drudge through a human world
Of vehicles and buildings,
Or dusty story endings!

Let’s live the life that we dream
And share with the world, some cream!

You are not your name, not your age
You are not the colour of your skin, nor your height or weight
You are not about where you are from
And definitely not what you do.

You are the things you believe in,
You are the books you read,
The lyrics stuck in your head
You are the words you speak
and the smiles you try to hide
You are every tear you’ve cried
and you are made of so much beauty.

Not the kind of beauty slopped on the cover of magazines
Not the long hair, skinny legs, tan skin or perfect teeth kind of beauty.

The dark circles when love doesn’t let you sleep,
The melted makeup after a long shower,
The way you laugh when you think something stupid
The way you cry for all your paranoias –
The way you dance when you know you’re all alone – THAT’S BEAUTY,
THAT’S YOU.

You are the scars on your knee since you fell when you were a kid
You are the expression on the face when the alarm rings in the morning.
You are the places you’ve been to and the movies you watch and everything beyond.
You are what you are, never let anything define you.
NEVER change who you are –
“BE WHO YOU ARE AND NOT WHAT THE WORLD WANTS YOU TO BE”.

From a family of sixteen I hail. TRAPPED
Too poor, too hungry we’d sit on sidewalks and wail
For the mercy of some charitable passerby
In the hope to scrape some alms for the day.
But my heart lay far away, it belonged to the sky
I wanted to be a pilot; I wanted to fly.

I once had hope.
Given the bleak circumstances of the life we lead
The most I could expect was thrice to be fed.
One day a ray of hope shone bright
My ambition would be fulfilled, the rich man said
He said he’d relieve me of this plight;
He said he’d pave the way the for my flight.

I once realized.
If you love something, then let it go,
Set if free and you will know
That dreams to cages do not belong.
The rich man’s words in my head echoed
And my heart burst into song
I had a journey ahead of me; So long!

I encounter reality.
Threading the path to the rich man’s house I go
Excitement, fear as I take my first steps to soar
The guards outside stop me. Push me away.
Wait! What’s happening? This isn’t how this goes!
I cry, I kick, I try to push them away from the gate
Is this really my fate?

OSTIUM I sit on the sidewalk.
I sit by my family and watch the day go by.
And think of how it shattered me, that one lie.
But then I suppose this is how it’s meant to be.

It was always doomed to a cage; how did I not see?
Well, now that I do, I am at peace with me.

I sat one day with a man

Who told me the stories of the stars,
Told me of the song they sang.

“Look at the stars,” he said to me
“Look how they shine for you”

Each holds a special secret about
How they’ll influence the things you do.

He told me if I ever saw
Three stars aligned some night,
I’d have an awful day the next,
Which I could avoid by wearing white.

With each prediction that he made,

Finally, he decided to stop this sermon,
And long solemnly looked at me;

He said with a malicious tone at last,
“But first be careful in who you believe”
