The show case in our new
building was not empty
long. Within three weeks,
the South High matmen
presented Mr. Krebs with
the State Championship
trophy.
Our principal's en~rgetic boosting
at Pep Rallies did much to heighten
school spirit.
It was a happy Mr. Krebs
who received the State
Championship Basketball
Trophy from Coach Cornie
Collin and his team only
one month after the wres-
t lers gained the top spot.
True success is a variable rnea -
ured in ter s of one's aims . He who
aim at nothing is almost sure to hit
it. He who would achie e et his
level of aspir ations high.
Your formal education has been
keyed by that to which you a pire;
the knowledge itself but a potential,
the magnitude f which is determined
by what ou put int it; its worth ul-
timate! t be realized in its con-
structive use.
In the continued d elopment of
the pattern of your li e , may you
set your thoughts upon things of
value ; spend your strength in the ful-
f illment of noble purposes; be faith-
fu l to responsibility h rLhing erv-
ice above gain.

All of South High's·faculty and students were sadden ed by the death
of Mrs. Inez Pereg oy Sherman on November 12, 1959 . Mrs . Sherman, who
had been the head librarian at South for 25 years, had been ill for nine
weeks before her death.
Among her accomplishments was the or ganization of t h e South High
School Library Service Leag ue on April 1, 1935 . She is also credited with
guiding many students into library work. However, Southites r em mber
that she was interested in all the activities of the school and was often
seen in the stands cheering Packer t eams on to victory. .
One of the many tributes to her was made by a Librar y Service League
member who remarked "Our library in fact our whole school won't be the
same without Mrs. Sherman. The1~e wasn't anything sh e wo uldn't do
for her students."

The purpose of the French Club is to further the under standing
and appreciation for the French language and the people and cul-
ture it represents. In regular monthly meetings the members of
this group increase their knowledge of France and its contributions
to the world's progress through panel discussions, guest speakers
films, tape recordings, records, and the study of old customs and
t r a d i t ion s.
The motto of the club, "Connaitre c'est comprendre," means "To
know is to understand" and is representative of the way in which
French Club membership contributes to better understanding
among all people.
