The site of the development is unique in this important growing city, as it is the meeting point between the grid of the city and the natural topography of the surrounding hill range. The design of the development takes inspiration from this with a dynamic “urban super wall” defining the sites edge with the urban grid.

An area in which recent years has had a chaotic development. The intervention will propose a recovery of the surrounding agricultural tissue and will create a pedestrian and cycling connectingon the center of the village with the new intervention which will host a big underground parking. The parking, in addition to serving customers company, will be used as parking public by improving the livability of the village which will be partially pedonalized.

HARLEM LOOP encourages visitors to choose their own method of interaction, but we envision that it could include: spontaneous farm-help, group cycling, or leisurely walking to the amphitheater for a performance. Nourishing NYC profits from the new farm beds, storage/handling facilities, and activity/ meeting rooms. The recreational boating zone is enclosed for safety, allowing all-ages to participate in a new community activity. Finally, a multi-purpose performance space can be used for live events for instance Shakespeare in the Park, or the Ringling Bros Circus. HARLEM LOOP combines the original structure with a new energetic landform structure that combines different types of program with a highly activated circulation route. This synthesis denotes both an appreciation of the city by historic preservation and a cutting-edge and fun architectural invention.

In addition, a hotel program attracts a high-end environment, typically found in Downtown or Midtown Manhattan. In contrast, Manhattanville, Harlem (the project location) is an area mainly characterized by low-income housing and a local community in an urban environment which is strikingly different from the southern areas of New York City.We consider that a Manhattan-style approach would not be suitable for this site. Thus, the aim of the project is to mediate between these two components and create a new landmark that triggers the rebirth of the area.

The ring units called "SmartBlocks" make possible a wide variety of floor plans. Single-unit layouts can mix with duplex, or triplex layouts. The units can shift in and out, adding rich texture to the surface, creating vertical garden space, and linking the units in unique ways. The malleability of the ring units accommodates living and working, extended families, and new forms of tenancy and ownership. Any grouping of these could be purposed for a hotel. The building is enriched by the multiplicity of forms and textures people create within their vertical neighborhoods.

146 / 创意分析——图解建筑Ⅱ RED HILL RISE 红山之巅的建筑 设计公司／Maxwan + MS architekti 地点／捷克，布拉格 这座混合功能的建筑位于一座地铁站之上，包含办公 区和零售区。建筑旁边为一条城市主干道，这条道路将布 拉格机场与历史悠久的城市中心区联系在一起。该项目的 大背景为一处极为陡峭的坡地（高差最大为14 m）。项目 地块位于一处宁静的住宅区内，然而基于其纯商务特性， 要赋予其具有表现力的建筑设计。 设计师构思出了这样的设计思路：即将建筑“一分为 二”，将景观、公共空间放置其中。这样的设计策略不仅 是为了顾及周边宁静的环境，避免庞大的建筑太过突兀， 同时也是为了打造出富有竞争力的商务办公空间，使其拥 有富有表现力的建筑设计。 Red Hill Rise, a mixed use building on top of a metro station, consists of offices and retail located along one of the major spine road connecting airport and historical city centre of Prague. Backdrop of the project is a dramatically steep slope (max. 14m height difference), the site being located in a tranquil residential area while required program is purely commercial and requires expressive architecture. We came up with the idea of “breaking-up” the building volume and inserting landscape and public space in between. This approach is not only for being sensitive to the tranquil surroundings avoiding massive building volume, but also aiming for commercially competitive office space yet achieving expressive architecture.

In order to fulfill the requirements of the company’s flagship, the client is now planning to build a complex which is not only housing a production line, but also a distribution center, storage area, research and development area, and offices. The design is based on six key points: unity, functionality, communication, density, breathing capability and inner landscape. •Unity: The different functions will be housed under a single façade, so as for the complex to appear as a whole. •Functionality: A factory is meant to be productive; and the architectural design should therefore start from defining the most suitable volumes for each different function. •Communication: Having such different functions under one roof should serve to make the company work as a whole. So as to improve the quality of the factory, a platform communicating the different parts of it is set at level +13 m. •Density: The site needs to be optimized. In order to allow for a potential growth of the complex, the building is compressed to the southern part of the site. •Breathing: The quality of the environment is improved by treating the building as a volume crossed by air, light and green. •Inner landscape: The building is turned inside-out, so that the landscape becomes an intrinsic part of it, bringing life into the building.

156 / 创意分析——图解建筑Ⅱ COFFEE BAR 名人咖啡厅 设计公司／crossboundaries architects 地点／中国，北京 咖啡厅位于北京名人国际酒店一层。一层大厅的环境 较单调，过于严肃，不够友好，没有供人们停留的空间和 氛围。设计师在设计过程中并不是被动地单一满足功能需 求，而是想在这样的环境中创造出一个活泼的、可供人们 惬意停留的场所。 设计师的方案是在这样的环境中置入了一个漂浮的盒 子。盒子如同一个升起的装置，被置入大厅里，同时界定 了咖啡厅空间范围，再用透明的隔断将咖啡厅和大厅分隔 开。以行走和坐下休息两种行为方式的截面为依据，在 其中分割出不同的空间形态，整个盒子作为一个“整体家 具”界定出咖啡厅的空间范围。 The client of this project wanted to improve the lobby area of an office tower in Beijing by adding a cafe bar. The idea of the design of this café bar is to create a lively space for people to spend their time, while having a cup of coffee and overseeing the lobby area. The design considers the café to be perceived as an installation, which is being inserted into the lobby space, acting as one big furniture piece. For this, a raised platform was created, which defines the area of the café and is being placed in between the existing column grid, a transparent curtain separates the café from the rest of the lobby. The functions of sitting in the café and walking through it, as two major activities, are implemented in the design as the shape of the furniture follows the natural movements and the body form while sitting or walking.

The common entrance and lobbies are situated in the central western side. The casino stretches directly from this entrance lobby towards the southeastern corner of the complex. Here it opens itself towards the stadium. Bot an access for pedestrian as a specific drop-off area can be situated here. An open dome acts as an entrance canopy. It combines the needed openness from and to the shopping street, with a visual appearance of the complex.. The main casino space is stretched to combine a diversified usage of the casino cupola with a grand overview. Its penetration within the hotel lobby area attracts hotel guests. The conference centre stretches from the central lobby towards the northeastern edge of the complex. A series of mini cupolas house the tarra spaces of the conference areas. They act as a concours. A separate entrance with a possible separate drop-off area can be created to the northern edge. The different conference halls surround the concourse.

This plan is no blueprint, but a strategy based on local characteristics; a robust structure with flexible projects. We propose to use the "wall" as a supporting architectural concept in future development: This element is ubiquitous in both the direct urban context and the more rural surroundings. The many possibilities and variations of opening, revealing and masking are capable of dealing with several situations that will occur.

172 / 创意分析——图解建筑Ⅱ JAY - REDEVELOPMENT JAY的重建 设计公司／Masoomeh 地点／伊朗，德黑兰 伊朗的这个地块具有博大、广阔的空间特性，基于 此，设计师需要在各个体育场馆、广场之间营造出一种 空间对比。经过对城市环境进行具体分析之后，设计师 打造出了四个区域。为了将这四个区域联系起来，设计 师设计了一个绿化区，其拥有与飞机跑道相同的朝向。 该绿化区面积与Naghsh-a-Jahan广场相似，设计师希 望保持绿化区空间元素的单一性。设计师还有打造疏散 区的想法。除了达成空间多样性的原则之外，设计师还 给每个区域打造出了其独特的特色。后来，疏散区的设 计想法被波斯花园所取代。 The huge scale of the location directed us to a comparison among such huge urban scales in Iran, including Azadi Stadium, Azadi Square, Toopkhane Square ana Naghsh-e-Jahan Square. After urban analysis, based on application development, 4 areas were needed. In the connection of these four areas, there was a crowded green area which had the same direction with the runway aircraft. This green area had almost the same scale with Naghsh-aJahan Square and we preferred to have nothing else there. Consequently, the idea of evacuations in area centers appeared. Besides urban variation, this idea created identity for each area. Afterwards, evacuated spaces were replaced by Persian gardens.
