77th Annual TWHBEA
National Futurity

The 77th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’
And Exhibitors’ Association National Futurity was
held August 25, 2021 at the Calsonic Arena in Shel-
byville, Tennessee. Chris Bobo, Derek Bonner, Brent
Grider, David Sisk and Dale Watts were the judges
for the event which features weanlings, yearlings,
two-year-old and three-year-old stars of the future in
flat shod and performance classes.
Mickey McCormick carried the flag aboard Always
In Style and Leah Boyd sang the National Anthem.
Brian Perry was the organist and Dallas Eubanks
announced during the 28 classes.
In the winners circle again this year was the popular
champagne toast to the winners, owners and train-
ers. A big thanks goes to all the sponsors, owners,
exhibitors, and trainers on making this show a great
success.

While I am excited and humbled to have won this world championship, it is not about me. It is about
the two guys I rode for…my Dad and my Uncle Scott. For those of you who had the pleasure of being
around them, you know the love they had for one another. They truly were each other’s best friend. As
many of you know, our family had been out of the horse business for a few years. It wasn’t until after
Scott’s diagnosis with esophageal cancer that my Dad decided to come back. My Dad was ready to
get back in the saddle but he also knew it would provide a wonderful activity for his brother to look
forward to during his cancer journey.

My Dad and Scott soaked up all the barn and horse show time they could. Bill Callaway certainly
made sure that time was time well spent. Over the past three years, he pretty much kept Bob and
Scott in the winners circle! The Celebration was no different. Scott was able to watch his brother win
Four World Championships, one Reserve World Championship and Three Reserve World Grand
Championships.

Scott was not in good enough health to attend this year’s Celebration but he told my Dad to go show
those horse for him. Unfortunately, on the first day of this year’s Celebration, my Dad tested positive
for Covid-19. When I heard the news Dad wouldn’t be able to carry out his brothers wishes, it abso-
lutely crushed me. Well, that didn’t stop ‘The BOB’ because he got on the phone the next morning
and asked me to fill in for him. After getting up enough courage (that only prayer could provide), I
said yes. It had been 12 years since I entered a ring. Little did I know my first ride back would be the
last show Scott would enjoy. King Thing and I carried that blue ribbon out of the Big Oval with great
pride for my Dad and in honor of my Uncle Scott. He peacefully passed the next day, August 30, 2021
surrounded by his family.

I want to thank my Dad for believing in me and entrusting me to show this amazing horse, my Mom
for her incredible ability to always have encouraging words, my husband for every prayer he prayed
on me, my best friend Tracy for keeping me calm, Kim and Scott Leonard for going above and be-
yond to help us in any way they could, Bill Callaway for giving me back my confidence in the show
ring, Casey Callaway for her million pep talk texts, everyone behind the scenes at Allan Callaway sta-
bles and many thanks to all of you for your love, support and prayers during this very difficult time…
our family is ever so grateful! To God be ALL the Glory!
