54 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Reading Reimagined: A Transmedia Framework for 21st-Century Youth Farina Tazijan*, Nor Fazlin Mohd Ramli, Azianura Hani Shaari, Rofiza Aboo Bakar *Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia, [email protected] Category: Technologies in Learning Abstract: In a digital era where traditional reading habits are evolving, there is a pressing need for a framework that addresses 21st-century literacy skills. The rapid technological shifts of the 21st century have profoundly impacted how the youth interact with texts, making traditional reading frameworks increasingly obsolete. "Reading Reimagined: A Transmedia Framework for 21stCentury Youth" aims to bridge this gap by proposing a ground-breaking approach that integrates transmedia story techniques into reading stories. Transmedia stories offer an interactive narrative experience across multiple platforms, thereby enhancing engagement, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Preliminary findings suggest that integrating multimedia elements, interactive platforms, and cross- media narratives can significantly improve reading engagement and literacy skills. The study's outcomes are particularly pertinent for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers looking to adapt literacy education to the realities of the digital age. This research not only presents a novel framework but also serves as a catalyst for a paradigm shift in reading education, advocating for a more dynamic, interactive, and inclusive approach to literacy in the 21st century. This study posits that integrating transmedia storytelling in literacy education is not merely an adjunct but a vital component for equipping youth with the motivation and skills needed for 21st- century reading landscapes.

This is because some students describe learning research in higher education centres as involving many processes that are difficult to understand and complex. Therefore, a learning method using the IEM Module has been introduced in an effort to facilitate students’ understanding process. The IEM Module, through the analytical process approach, is a method to understand each stage of data analysis more easily. The IEM Module is a rescue method for students who face problems in analysing data. This innovation effort coincides with the needs of final-year students in the field of economics and other fields who need to implement final-year projects as a requirement for their graduation. The IEM Module method has been adapted for the PEQ 3043 and PER 3023 courses, which are based on the project-based learning strategy. The learning method through the IEM Module can be the backbone of student success in final-year projects. Based on this module, the students will refer to YouTube videos developed by the course lecturer to enable them to refer to the method of analysing complex data repeatedly so they are able to build their own understanding. This approach is able to make a difficult learning system easier and inculcate student interest to keep trying and not give up easily. The result of this innovative method has also opened up a space for the students to produce quality writing and finally be able to present at national or international seminars if given the opportunity. The learning method through the IEM Module is in line with the Malaysian government's MADANI policy of producing holistic, expert people and a competitive nation.

| 63 E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 i-Creative Model Kit Noor Atiqah binti Sanudin*, Nur Ili Izyani binti Muhamad, Nabilah Zafirah binti Zulkepli *Politeknik Nilai, [email protected] Category: Pedagogy and Curriculum Abstract: Diploma in Landscape Horticulture (DLH) is a programme offered in Politeknik Nilai which highlights the students in landscape design and horticulture courses. Throughout the semesters, DLH students are required to learn and inculcate proper steps in the landscape design process, which involves inventory analysis, conceptual ideas, schematic design and final presentation drawings. Nevertheless, most DLH students faced difficulties in the landscape design process, especially in visualising design forms during conceptual and schematic design. This is because they have low creative thinking and imagination skills. Likewise, they also faced difficulties understanding and applying the right techniques for scaling landscape drawings. On top of that, the current issues not only linger among the students but also the educators, whereby educators have insufficient teaching aids to cater to the landscape design process. For the time being, the educators still use the conventional method, which is a manual demonstration on paper. This method is not applicable to every student as they have different abilities. Thus, the i-Creative Model Kit was invented to aid students in visualising the design form in a 3-Dimensional (3D) view whilst creating fun learning activities in small groups within landscape design class sessions. Eventually, the i-Creative Model Kit will also add creative thinking and imagination values not only to the students but also to the educators.

66 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Project IDENTITY - Incorporating Diversity and Equity in Novel Traits for International Tertiary Youth Ayu Rita Mohamad*, Ts. Muhammad Suhaizan Sulong, Ts. Azlianor Abdul Aziz, Sharul Effendy Janudin *Segi University, [email protected] Category: Learner Diversity and Identities Abstract: Higher education institutions around the world continue to accept international students not only for global experience but also to integrate into all walks of life. Malaysia is no exception because the trend over the past three years (2020– 2022) has shown an increase in international students applying to higher education institutions, whether public or private universities. However, recent studies have pointed out a lack of institution-led initiatives that signify an effort to include student experiences with the principles of diversity and equity in higher education contexts. Thus, the purpose of Project IDENTITY is to offer opportunities for students to explore identities that fit into their learning lifestyle, including psychological well-being, academic achievement, and peer connections involving interactions with administrators, educators, and study partners. It is important to drive diversity and equity for international students in higher education institutions from a standardisation, professionalisation, and institutionalisation perspective. These novel traits demonstrate that few higher education institutions have shown a long-standing commitment to aspects of diversity and equity. The plan is to apply and expand the project to all higher education institutions that can afflict international students at any stage in their education and discuss some strategies for dealing with issues related to less privileged or marginalised students. This project is designed to provide necessary resources with tools and strategies for higher institutions to recognise, assist, and guide international students.

Leaders and leadership are complementary to each other. Leaders are individuals, while leadership symbolises the individual's ability to do things through others. Therefore, a leader will be meaningless if his vision is no longer obeyed by his followers. Nowadays, organisations attach great importance to the leadership quality of leaders and managers because it is the quality of leadership that will determine the success or failure of an organisation. Leaders who have an effective and efficient leadership style can lead their organisation to achieve the desired goals. On the other hand, an organisation will fail if its leader's leadership is weak. Therefore, most organisations today make leadership ability one of the criteria in the selection of leaders and managers or executive officers. Some organisations provide leadership training programmes aimed at developing and improving leadership skills among managers and staff. A personality profiling tool called i- LEADpro PLUS was developed to be utilised as an innovative approach to Individual Leadership Characteristic evaluation. The i-LEADpro PLUS Measurement Tool, which contains i-LEADpimpin and i-LEADkerjaya, will be analysed from the findings of all respondents. The formulation of these two domains will eventually be formulated into individual leadership characteristics. The interpretation of the findings will be issued as an output of individual leadership characteristics. I-LEADpimpin includes four leadership personality traits, such as Objektiviti, Inspirasi, Penyokong, and Reflektif, with iLEADkerjaya's six categories of career tendency characteristics, namely Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. The results of the responses by the participants uncovered the positive impact of i- LEADpro PLUS, which can provide an innovative tool for organisations to determine the Individual Leadership Characteristics of their employment candidate or their employees. This tool can also be used by educational institutions to evaluate their future students or current students and prepare them for their future careers and life paths.

Nadzalan, Gunathevan Elumalai, Fairus Fariza Zainudin, Mohansundar Sankaraval, Nurul Fadhilah Abdullah, Norhazirah Abdul Rahim *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Adult, Community, and Professional Learning Abstract: MyAqua Wellness Centre will implement a new Edu-Exercise method for developing wellness, fitness, happiness and rehabilitation services in water media for various groups of people. MyAqua Wellness Centre is designed based on five wellness dimensions (physical, mental, social, emotional, and occupational), with five specific fitness exercise methods in cardio, resistance, balance, flexibility and stability zones, as well as music and aromatherapy zones to reduce tension, anxiety, and stress. The equipment will be installed underwater with a multi-function exercise and overload system. Furthermore, with buoyancy and drag, unique resistance characteristics, and expansibility of water, these exercise methods provide high levels of expending energy and calories with relatively little effort to the body among obese people who require weight loss (This protocol was previously introduced by Abadi et al., 2018 & 2019- UPSI). Secondly, the method is performed in different water-depth levels to lessen the risk of injuries when the eccentric resistance is lower than the concentric resistance. Thirdly, the relaxation exercise method is based on the stress management model in the water. Additionally, performing land-based exercises might aggravate joint discomfort and increase the risk of reinjury among individuals who need rehabilitation. Since water immersion reduces joint stress and discomfort, with the eccentric resistance method, users not only can prevent their muscles and joints from injuries, but they can also control the speed of motions easily. This centre aims to develop professional services for wellness, fitness, and rehabilitation in safe media with quick effect through multi-function exercises with different fitness zone systems for different groups of people. This method will employ a fitness and rehab approach for a minimum of five target groups, including athletes, injured people, obese people, the elderly, and people with anxiety disorder and sarcopenia
74 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Dewa Pechil, A Mak Yong Tale Told by Ali bin Ibrahim Patricia Ann Hardwick*, Fara Dayana Mohd Jufry *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Learner Diversity and Identities Abstract: Mak yong was nominated as a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005 and inscribed in 2008. Parti Se-Islam Malaysia banned mak yong performance in Kelantan in 1991. While the recognition of mak yong by UNESCO brought the art international visibility, this enforcement had a marginal effect on the sustainability of mak yong as a community- based oral tradition in Kelantan. The official ban on Kelantanese mak yong was lifted on September 25, 2019. I chose to develop this book and the three accompanying e-books to make a little-known mak yong story accessible to the new generation. While synopses of Dewa Pechil can be found in academic dissertations, this is the first time it is being published in a book widely available to the Malaysian public. The ban on mak yong performances from 1991 to 2019 attenuated the ability of traditional performers to share their stories with young people. I hope that this publication will not only provide an introduction to mak yong stories and performances to an international audience but also give Malay and Kelantanese-speaking youth an opportunity to read and hear the stories of their ancestors and encourage them to think and dream in their own language.

This topic is compulsory for students who will be sitting for the Malaysian Certificate of Education. The focus of the study is a learning standard that synthesises the plan and elevations for an object and sketches the object. First, students must draw three two-dimensional (2D) images on the four quadrants: plan (P), front elevation (FE), and side elevation (SE). Then, they must build an image in their minds about the three-dimensional (3D) shape of an object. They will sketch the object based on their imagination. From our interviews with the teachers, the weak students failed to sketch the object correctly because they had difficulties transforming from 2D images to 3D objects. Therefore, they failed to sketch the 3D shape from the 2D images given to them. The teachers were also having problems teaching this topic as they did not have any suitable teaching aids. Therefore, we propose a learning strategy that embeds visualisation techniques called the Visual Learning Flip Room Kits (VL_Froom Kits). It comprises two categories of teaching aids: non-digital (A4 papers and 3D block acrylic perspex) and digital (video and 3D software, SketchUp Make). The A4 paper is used to create a “Flip Room” by folding it. This special room consists of a floor (as P) and two vertical planes that represent the FE and SE. Students will be guided by recorded videos on how to do the Flip Room and how to draw 2D images of plans and elevations. The 3D blocks are used to help students visualise the objects. Meanwhile, 3D software is used to represent certain objects like pyramids, cones, and composite objects. This learning strategy has good potential as a teaching aid to assist students in sketching 3D objects.

88 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Asynchronous Online Role-Play: A Post-Pandemic Learning Technique to Enhance Esl Learners’ Willingness To Communicate Dr. Noor Alhusna binti Madzlan*, Dr. Aireen Aina binti Bahari, Dr. Noraini binti Zulkepli, Dr.Siti Shuhaida binti Shukor *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Innovative Product Abstract: Due to recent events with the COVID-19 pandemic, minimal face-to-face interactions are allowed. This causes a problem in pedagogical practices, as physical contact in classroom settings is not feasible. This study investigates the use of asynchronous role-play as a learning technique to improve language learners’ willingness to communicate. In language learning, role-play is an effective learning technique used for learners to practice speaking skills and strategies. Asynchronous role-play refers to the performance of chosen scenarios using the target language, where students are given specific roles to play. Unlike conventional role-play, where students typically perform in front of a live audience, asynchronous role-play requires learners to record their performance individually, combine their roles to piece together a story and upload it on an online video-sharing platform (YouTube) for the audience to view. The asynchronous role-play method could potentially help learners by providing a safe and non-threatening learning environment so they would be willing to communicate using the target language. This study proposes two research objectives: first, to examine whether there is a significant difference in ESL learners' willingness to communicate before and after performing asynchronous online role-play; second, to identify relevant factors that influence these ESL learners’ willingness to communicate. A mixed-method approach is designed to understand the impact of the intervention. A total of 103 first-year ESL tertiary- level students took part in this 8-week study, and a total of 45 students were selected to be in the treatment group. Results from the independent t-test revealed that the students who took part in the asynchronous online role-play showed a significant difference in their willingness to communicate compared to students who did not receive the intervention. This study benefits not only learners in increasing their willingness to communicate but also educators and educational institutions in adopting technology-assisted teaching methods in alternative learning environments as a post-pandemic English learning technique.

This project describes the effect of implementing challenge-based assessment via online learning for Diploma Game Design and Development courses with a group of 36 students during a special semester (7 weeks). The three core courses for this semester are i) 2D Game Development (MMG1014), ii) Game Project Management (MMG1014), and iii) Game Programming (MKS1113). Assessment activities for these three courses were conducted simultaneously using the CBA method. Students must implement a digital game development project and participate in an online competition called GameDeDev Challenge during the 7th week of the semester. Students must complete the project within 4 weeks as a team. The effect of implementing the CBA method was determined by analysing student performance grades and course learning outcomes monitoring (CLOM) index scores for each course. Interviews were also conducted with students to obtain feedback on their experiences with this assessment method. The results showed that CBA increases learning success when the quality of the project created is excellent based on the rubric established by the lecturer for each course. Learning becomes more meaningful when students are able to apply related theories and concepts to interdisciplinary knowledge. Student motivation and engagement can also be increased with interactive communication between students and lecturers during the project’s progress. This can elevate students’ intellectual abilities and skills to a higher level while encouraging lecturers in higher institutions to innovate in pedagogy to ensure quality education.

Mohd Noor, Normah Jusoh, Siti Nadiah Halimah bt. Md Shah, Nur Fatihah binti Nasharuddin *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Educational Organisation and Leadership Abstract: One of the functions of the Academic Development Centre (PPA) under the Academic Development and Accreditation Unit (UPAA) is to review documents involving new programmes and programme delivery for the purpose of provisional and full accreditation applications and programme review. At Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), there are 71 undergraduate programmes and 88 postgraduate programmes. Although the current programmes are still active, some new programmes are also being developed to meet the demands of the Ministry of Higher Education, especially in realising the 9th Gap, which is Globalised Online Learning (GOL). Due to this, almost every month, PPA will receive three to five emails regarding the review of documents, which involve new programmes, programme reviews, or accreditation documents. The documents received had to go through several phases of evaluation at the university level, namely evaluation at the PPA, Programme Evaluation Committee (JKPP), University Academic Programme Planning Working Committee (JKPPAU), Academic Planning Committee (JKPA) for undergraduate programmes, Graduate Studies Committee (JPS) for postgraduate programmes, and the University Senate Committee. Each phase or stage of this assessment can take a long period depending on the work process or corrections that need to be refined, as well as approval for each stage of the assessment. At the moment, the documents are received and traced by email. Documents can easily be misplaced or overlooked due to the number of emails received each day and also at which stage of evaluation the document needs to be traced. Therefore, it is important to have a system that can record the date of document receipt, document review, and subsequent evaluation process so the developed programme can be offered within the specified period. The Academic Programme Management Information Recording Online Form (APMIRoF) is developed to make the academic programme management process at PPA more efficient and smoother. In addition, it is hoped that with the existence of this APMIRoF, all documents received via email can be properly recorded for future reference.

94 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Interactive Creative Learning (ICL) Dr. Nurbieta binti Abd Aziz*, Dr. Kway Eng Hock, Dr. Nor Siti Rokiah binti Abdul Razak, Dr. Syamsinar binti Abdul Jabar, Dr. Noraini binti Abdullah, Dr. Hafizul Fahri bin Hanafi, Encik Ahmad Syahril bin Mohd, Puan Nazareen Adillia binti Hirudin *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Technologies in Learning Abstract: The art of creativity is an important goal for 21st-century learners, such as students in higher education (SiHE). It requires educators to be creative alongside existing technology-based teaching tools and techniques to ensure effective learning and teaching delivery. Yet, most educators show a lack of interest in exploring the experiences of interactive creativity learning (ICL). The conventional way becomes an option and is preferable to deliver lectures to SiHE. To think differently about ICL, this project aims to expose educators to how ICL has been implemented in the learning activity of KBK3093 Intervensi dalam Pendidikan Khas, thus enhancing their understanding of the approach. A video to demonstrate various creative methods, including online collaboration tools, has been produced. To demonstrate these methods, the introduction topic has been chosen. The lecture started with brainstorming, which triggered an overview of the topic from students’ perspectives and understanding through a Mentimeter. Next, they were split into groups and continued to search for information from multiple references and supporting resources, such as the internet or trusted websites. During this session, the Know, Wantto-Know, and Learned (KWL) strategy is applied. This strategy encourages students to discuss and achieve consensus before an appointed group leader presents their findings. We also practised a method called Think-Pair-Share. Here, students were given a question to discuss with their next-seated friend before presenting in front of the classroom. The goal of this method is to assist students in understanding how the theory can be practised with intervention for students with special needs. Lastly, students were instructed to answer quizzes from Padlet. Data from the learning evaluation proved that students were happy and satisfied with the learning process of this subject. The ICL should be recommended among educators in higher education. It is agreed that the impact of ICL as an online collaboration tool is relevant to students and nurtures their learning process in higher education.
| 95 E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Synergetic: Online MOOC Platform for Collaborative Learning Dr. Muhamad Hariz Muhamad Adnan*, Dr. Satria Abadi *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Technologies in Learning Abstract: How do we solve the problem where the students lack motivation to learn in class, especially when they need to learn in a group setting that requires collaborative learning? Synergetic is the answer. Synergetic is a combination of a MOOC platform that allows students to learn online at their own pace and simultaneously provides points for their engagement in the platform. Using Synergetic, instructors can use points and gamification in the classroom to emphasise the collaborative aspect of learning and suggest that students can achieve more together than they can alone.
96 | E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Participatory Foresighting: Reimagine Science Teachers’ Role Zainun binti Mustafa* Category: Learning in Higher Education *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Abstract: This pilot study, conducted at the Muzium Pendidikan Sultan Idris, explores the concept of Participatory Foresighting as an innovative approach to enhance the engagement and critical thinking of 30 pre-service science and biology teachers. The study introduces the foresight skills to participants through a unique learning experience known as "Walkabouts and Future Artefacts in Edu-Museums”. The objective is to prepare these future educators for the dynamic landscape of education by engaging them in discussions about historical artefacts, current trends, and potential future scenarios in the field, spanning a time horizon of 5, 10, and 20 years. The exercise encouraged participants to think beyond traditional boundaries and to prepare for an ever-evolving educational landscape. By discussing the transition from typewriters to virtual reality classrooms and AI- powered personalised learning, students gained a deeper understanding of the complexity and dynamism of education. This innovative approach was integrated into the KPG 3013 course, fostering creativity and critical thinking, as students had to anticipate future educational trends and adapt their teaching and learning designs accordingly. This research serves as a pioneering step to reshaping the role of science and biology teachers in this course, emphasising the need for future educators to not only adapt to change but to actively participate in shaping the future of education.
| 97 E-Proceeding of The International Education Innovation Expo 2023 (Edu@Innovate 2023), 8- 9 November 2023 Grooming Effective Pre-Service Teachers: The Learning-By-Doing Strategy Dr. Nur Izwani binti Mohd Shapri* *Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, [email protected] Category: Pedagogy and Curriculum Abstract: As a teacher, it is essential to provide high-quality instruction to increase student achievement and promote mastery for all students. This requires a deep understanding of the syllabus, effective teaching strategies, and appropriate assessment techniques. To prepare effective teachers for the future, 41 undergraduate students in the AT11 course from semester A222 of the Sultan Idris Education University are required to take the Implementation of Biology Teaching course (SBP3013) to prepare pre-service teachers who are capable of delivering effective teaching in the classroom before they begin their teaching practicum. To achieve this aim, the lecturer has integrated the experiential learning theory by Kolb and Kolb (2017) with the learning-by-doing strategies to promote active learning engagement among students. This innovative instructional design incorporates activities for experiential learning and learning- by-doing strategies, which comprise the four-stage cycle of experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and acting. During the session, students explore the information in groups and discuss their findings through dialogue. They reflect on the information and extract the best practices of effective teachers in teaching. They also need to discuss the best practices in delivering some topics in the Biology syllabus. Finally, they demonstrate their teaching practices in micro- teaching and macro-teaching sessions, receiving feedback from the lecturer and peers to improve their teaching skills and practices. The finding showed that 95% of the students agreed that this instructional strategy has been successful in enhancing pre-service teachers’ understanding of effective teaching, as well as helping them to internalise their understanding and improve their teaching skills and practices.
