40th Anniversary Concluding Remarks

二零一四 年对缅省中文学院来说是一个紧张繁忙又有重大意义的一年，这一年是中院自创建来
的（1974始）第四十个生日。新年伊始，中院举办了具有极大社区影响的马年春节庆祝晚宴，
嘉宾人数达500多人，中院人和社会贤达欢聚一堂辞旧迎新，迎接马年到来，晚宴上还隆重表
彰了七名建院元勋，二名有四十年资深奉献的中院会员，和六名有十年以上奉献的中院会员。
五月二十五日还举办了第十四届中院春之共鸣音乐会，它是中院合唱团与意大利合唱团的年度
音乐表演，是展示中院合唱团的表演艺术和才华，与其他文化社团进行交流的平台，极具社会
影响。之后不久六月初是中文学校的年终结业典礼，中文学校校委会，师生，助教，义工，家
长和理事会成员，共同庆祝了第四十个结业典礼。六月份，中院理事会召开了中院全体会员大
会，会上选举了新一届的理事会成员，这届理事会与历届理事会不同之处是，当选的大多理事
成员是由大陆在改革开放后来加的新移民。他们在加拿大数十年的学习工作中积累了一定的义
工服务经验，都愿意为中院的进一步发展尽心尽力。致此老一代中院人的管理中院的使命将由
新一代的接班人来延续了。接下来便是筹备主办缅省中华夏令营，中文学院与中華會館，中華
學院，中華文化社，培英中文學校等四个协同单位一起经过数月的筹备，于八月十一到八月十
五日成功举办了2014年缅省中华夏令营。最具高潮的是十一月十五日的庆祝中院四十 周年的
中院之夜音乐晚会，它可堪称中院有史来最隆重的音乐晚会。组织合理，表演精湛，出席人数
等都是前所未有的。十二月圣诞节前，中院合唱团又如往年一样，举办了石安台慰问老人的圣
诞演出，并为每位老人送去了圣诞礼物和节日的祝福。在这一年中，中文学校也组织了一系列
的庆祝活动，如学生作文，绘画比赛，朗诵比赛，还制作了四十周年的CD专辑，这一年可谓
过得红红火火，热热闹闹，意义非凡，这一年在我们每个中院人心中都留下了难以忘怀的美好
记忆。

这本四十周年特刊，原则上重点突出了四十周年其间的活动和事件，同时也兼收自三十五周年
到四十周年之间 (2009 - 2014)有关的重要事项，文件和活动。虽然四十周年特刊的编委会大多
数是由新人组成，但他们精神饱满，干劲十足。几个月来，从最初的目录初编，到收集文章，
资料，图片，到之后的文章编辑，整理资料和图片，以及联系商家和中院友人的支持和赞助，
对大家来说这些都是新事物，都极具挑战。但大家不畏困难，努力工作。整个特刊编辑过程也
得到了中院理事会和中院老前辈们的大力鼓励和支持，及中院会员，老师和助教，各方义工的
帮助和支持。省级和市级政府要员也对这一特刊的发行给予积极支持，纷纷发来了祝贺信及照
片。几位中院建院元老们也大力支持并发了来贺词。这本四十周年庆祝特刊在历经数月的紧张
筹划和编辑后，今天与大家正式见面了。在此四十周年特刊编委会谨向为特刊的顺利出版提供
支持赞助的中院会员，师生，校友，义工及朋友们表示诚挚的感谢，向省市各级政府的要员对
四十周年庆祝活动的参与和支持表示衷心感谢!
此外，还应该感谢三十五周年特刊编委，三十五周年编辑特刊为四十周年编辑特刊提供了许多
重要的参考。
诚然，由于时间紧，任务重，加之缺乏经验，恐难免存在不足和欠缺之处, 在此望读者们谨存
宝贵意见。另外要提及的是，多年来中院的多项活动积累了许多珍贵的资料，文章，虽然我们
把原计划的小纪念册扩大成近200页的特刊，但由于特刊的篇幅有限，有些资料和文章只能有
筛选地登载，这也是我们编委们的遗憾之处。望大家能谅解。
四十周年是缅省中文学院的又一重大里程碑，编辑出版这本特刊也将作为一件大事载入中院的
历史。让我们继续发扬中院人的贡献精神，继往开来，努力进取，为中文学院更加辉煌的未来
而奋斗吧！

2014 was the 40th Anniversary of the Manitoba Academy of Chinese Studies (The Academy).
It was a very exciting year for the academy filled with many memorable events. The
year began with the Chinese New Year and the academy’s 40th Anniversary celebration
banquet, with an enthusiastic crowd of over 500 guests from the Chinese and non-Chinese
communities. We welcomed the arrival of the Year of Horse and celebrated the Academy’s
achievements by providing guests with delicious traditional Chinese food and entertained
them with Chinese dances and singing performances. At the banquet, two 40 years service
awards and six 10 years service awards were presented to members of the Academy who
have made significant contributions to the Academy over the years. Special recognition
awards were presented to the seven founding members of the Academy.

The start of spring was marked at the Academy with the 14th “Echo of Spring” annual
concert jointly presented by both the Academy’s choir and the Viva l’Italia Choir. The two
choirs have been working together over the years. Their performances have been welcomed
and recognized by the Chinese and Italian communities in Winnipeg.

In June, the Chinese School conducted a closing ceremony, marking the end of the school
year. At the closing ceremony, students, teachers and teaching assistants were all excited to
exhibit their accomplishments and celebrated their achievements.

June was also the Semi-annual meeting of the Academy. Several senior executives retired
from their duties and several new executives were elected. This marked the transaction of
managerial responsibility from the senior group to a younger group who are more energetic
and have good connections to the Chinese emigrants who arrived in Winnipeg during
the last 30 years. The new executives have committed to work and to further develop the
academy.

In August (11-15), with the support and cooperation of 中華會館，中華學院，中華文化社，
培英中文學校, the Academy organized the Chinese Summer Camp with a big success. Over
50 children attended the Summer Camp.

In November, we held a Gala Concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Academy. It was
the largest and most influential event in the Academy’s history. It was a very well organized
concert with over 300 audience and invited guests. They enjoyed the excellent performances
of dancing, singing, and Taiji. These performances were performed by our students, Choir,
and invited guests.
December saw the annual Sek On Toi Christmas concert; this is a traditional annual event.
We delighted in sharing the joy with the senior folks in Chinatown and sent our season’s
greetings to them.

During the entire school year, our students, teachers and teaching assistants have been
celebrating the 40th anniversary in their own way by conducting writing contests, oral speech
contests and calligraphy competitions. In addition, a special CD was produced, which
contains different kinds of celebratory events. It was an invigorating year for all the Academy’s
students.

This 40th special publication mainly focuses on the events that occurred during 2014, also
covering the important activities from 2009 up to 2014. Though there are many valuable
written materials and photographs accumulated over the years. Due to time frame and space
limitation in this special edition we were unable to include all of them. We hope that you
understand we could not include all of the moments of the Academy which may be more
significant to you.

The special publication editorial committee is mainly composed of younger members with a
lack of editorial experience. Nonetheless they have put in extra effort to learn many new skills
dealing with ambiguity and dealing with the many difficulties in the preparation of this special
publication. It is impossible for us to complete this task without the valuable assistance
from the academy’s members, teachers, teacher assistants, school committee and executive
committee. We thank them for their commitment to publishing this special publication.

We would like to take this opportunity and thank the different levels of government for their
support and well wishes to this special edition. Thanks also to the many academy members
that not only send the congratulations, but also their financial support. Moreover, we are very
grateful to the 35th year book committee. The 35th year book served as a very important
reference. We are grateful to all these parties, and many others who have helped during this
40th anniversary year.
We believe that forty years is a substantial millstone for Manitoba Academy of Chinese
Studies. Publishing of 40th anniversary special publication is a very important historical event
for the Academy.
Let us continue the spirit of the Academy to achieve more glory.
